Just got sushi special combo, which is pretty pricey when compared to other bogo sushi places (like the well-known Shiki). But the flavors and the quality of the sushi seems to make up for the price, as the food tasted much better than what I've had at the other bogo places. We also got the seaweed salad. Can't go wrong with seaweed salad! I was a little bummed that this one piled on top of lettuce filler, so it looks like you're getting more than what is there. The setting is nice, a small place nested in a shopping strip. I prefer smaller setting to larger ones, just because it feels more intimate and the food feels less mass-produced (even if that's just a mental thing). I can't really remember the service, so it must have been neither really good nor really bad. I haven't tried the other food here so I'm going to hold back on 5 stars until I see what else they have to offer. Will be back for sure though! read more

Tonight was our first visit to Oiso but we will be back soon! Some friends recommended it to us a few days ago so we decided to check it out. We started with a California roll to share. So fresh and tasty! We also ordered the "spicy bomb" appetizer of spicy tuna and avocado. It was amazing! I had the beef Bibimbap and my wife had the Spicy pork Dolsot which is Bibimbap in a hot stone bowl. We liked them both but the stone bowl was better as it kept the dish nice and warm. We came for lunch. I got the sushi bento and my hubby got the spicy pork bento. He said his was average. The pork was not very flavorful or spicy but he enjoyed the variety of the other dishes in his bento. Mine was good with 6 pieces of sashimi and 3 nigiri with spicy tuna roll. I did not like the spicy tuna roll but at lunch you can choose from that or cali roll. Overall good but not worth driving over 40 minutes. read more

Short and sweet: Quality - Their sushi rolls are as good as they get. Waitstaff - Super nice people. Feels family owned. Price - $5 for a great roll. $10-$12 for fancy pants roll. Outside - It's in a strip mall next to a bar and grocery store. Inside - Small (~10 tables), quaint, and casual. Nothing fancy. Wait - Rare, but sometimes ~15 minute wait in evening / weekend times. Selection - They sell other stuff besides sushi, but sushi is their focus. For me, I primarily care about the quality of my sushi and the price. I had a dinner with my friend here few days ago and we really liked it! It was a little bit tricky to find this place at first but it's in that Maynard Crossing shopping area. We got there around dinner time, and this place was packed! We ordered one of their huge sashimi bowls, few different sushi rolls and veggie Korean pancake. We loved everything we ordered; their sashimi was very fresh. I haven't had sashimi in forever but gosh, they were really good! Also, we had this California rolls, Avocado tuna rolls and their lobster rolls and they were really good too. As a Korean, I really liked that veggie pancake too; if you don't like Kimchi or seafood, I highly recommend their veggie pancake as an appetizer. Overall, I really loved this place and I was so glad I finally checked this place out. Staff were really nice and very attentive and my friend and I enjoyed fresh sashimi and rolls. We really liked this place! We aren't huge sushi lovers and mainly stick to the cooked stuff, but sometimes I get a craving so my fiance is willing to go. We really liked Oiso. We had the steamed gyoza which was really tasty. For our sushi we had the regular combo with a California and Philadelphia roll and a specialty combo with a hurricane and ebi lover roll. The sushi was all really good and the ebi lover was my favorite. The hurricane was very unique with the deep fried thin potato wrapping. Everything was presented beautifully. Service was excellent even though it was one waiter - he was very attentive. Price is definitely cheaper than other sushi prices offering "bogo". Two regular rolls for $9 and two specialty rolls for $18 is a great price for the quality imo. We'll be back for our sushi cravings! read more

My husband and I visited after attending the Chinese Lantern Festival at Koka Booth in early January. The high marks on Yelp is what solidified our decision to eat there. Service was a little slow throughout our time there. But, the restaurant remained full. My husband ordered two rolls: the Green Field and the Spider. I inhaled one of his Green Field rolls. While the roll structure was a bit compromised, the flavors were outstanding (I don't think I had ever had mango in a roll before!). I ordered the vegetable bibimbap bowl, which is served cold (in hindsight, I would have ordered the hot stone bibimbap). Overall, the vegetables were crisp and fresh. We both enjoyed the miso soup served ahead of our entrees. Would we come back? Absolutely! Slow service aside, it was clear that this is a place where regulars gather and is very family-oriented. In town for business and saw that this sushi joint was highly rated. Very impressed! The service was attentive and food quality and taste was on point. Not only that, but the prices were very fair. The staff here are polite and make sure you are comfortable. We had our waters consistently filled to the brim, and the waitress made sure we were satisfied with our meal. The sushi was great but the bibimbap seemed a little light and the egg was cooked to death. The wait was ridiculous. Waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our order then about 25 minutes for my food to come out. My girlfriend's first roll came out about 20 minutes later. Then the 2nd one came about 10 minutes later. Pretty bad. We were there about an hour and a half for two of us. Maybe this was a one off. read more

I enjoyed meal at Oiso so much that I feel like making this restaurant my permanent mail address. The staff is so kind and welcoming! My waitress made personal recommendations to help me order and checked in with us often throughout the meal. The sushi tower changed my life and pairs so well with the bolgogi hot bowl. If there was ever a power couple of entrees it would be these two dishes. The hot green tea wonderfully complimented the flavors of both dishes and I will be sure to order these three together soon. I was not really impressed with my meal at Oiso at all. They had one interesting veggie roll which is why I opted to come here. However, it was $10.50 for 6 unsatisfying pieces (see picture). I probably would not have paid more than $6 for it--quality wise it was no better than supermarket sushi, with cold chewy rice and overall bland. I also asked if I could swap out eel sauce for spicy mayo, and the lady brought me eel sauce anyway. I didn't think too much of this because misunderstandings happen obviously. However, what made me livid was that I was already upset that the roll was so expensive, and when we got the check she asked if we wanted to split it down the middle or per item. We told her clearly to split it by item but share the appetizer, and when we got our checks she had just split it down the middle. So I ended up having to pay even more than I was already upset about for subpar sushi since my boyfriend got a much more expensive item. Clearly the lady had issues with listening to what the customers actually wanted. I probably will never return here. read more

First visit here- tasty but, Americanized by making every dish we ate, sweet. The spicy pork bento box, bulgoki box, and even the hamachi kama, was sweet. Either it had sugar in the dish or sweet sauce is poured all over it. Ask for NO sauce or sauce on the side, if you don't want to taste sweetness the whole meal. Went out for date night with the wife.....checked out yelp for Sushi and this was rated best in our area...The service was nice and you could tell you were in a family atmosphere. We ordered Korean short ribs and the wife got thend veggie bulkogi.....food was good but nothing to scream about. veggie plate was very bland. we enjoy spending our money on small businesses and will come back to try other things....by the way we had the Sushi and thst was very good read more

Taken it's the grand opening, they are still trying to make it perfect, I'm trying to provide a few suggestions that would make this place better: Food: if the food is good at a reasonable price, I'd come back, even if service is lacking. And I gave it three stars. 4 stars for sushi, so not much to talk about, everything is decent. But 2 stars for seafood udon. Don't mistake the cuisines here for Japanese, although it comes from the Japanese root(Japanese restaurant), but the kitchen is definitely playing a Korean note on the food here. The seafood udon is on a Korean seaweed based soup, instead of shrimp tempura, frozen small pieces seafood mix is what you would find in the soup along with fish cakes and imitation crab. I would use the same seafood mix to make spicy Korean tofu stew(the key point is the spicy flavor and tofu, not seafood), and they are not well balanced with a light Japanese udon soup. I'll post a picture of the tiny shrimp I found in my soup. It's a pity to use subpar ingredients like this, when they can easily play safe and have shrimp tempura, or even make it great by adding flavor In the soup and cook the udon to perfection; it just doesn't worth the price. The service is 2 stars. Although I'd pump it up to 3 because I can see the waiter was trying to make it welcoming and doing his best, but one waiter running the whole store front is just not enough. We waited a long time for our food, water, menu and utensils. My udon didn't arrive until after all of my friends finished eating their rice dish/sushi. I shared sushi with my husband so I wasn't starving, but it could be worse. This new place has a lot of potential, if they bring it up the game by making the food right and hire more wait staff while Keep the service quality. read more

My BF and I dined here late on a weeknight 30 minutes before closing and we were not treated any differently for arriving so late and we definitely stayed past their closing time. We were only 1 of 3 people in the restaurant so service was very prompt. Sam took care of us, he is so incredibly nice and friendly! They had some cool lunch bento box specials that I'd love to try later, these boxes combined both sushi and Korean in case you want a bit of everything (like me)! We ordered the Kalbi barbecue which comes out sizzling on the skillet with a bowl of rice and is 100% delicious and flavorful! It also comes with some ban-chan or little side dishes. They don't offer as much ban-chan as some other Korean places but they were enough and tasty. I will say the kim chi could've used a lot more heat! Definitely not spicy enough but still good. We also ordered the sushi special combo which lets you pick 2 rolls for a fixed rate ($18). We also added an eel roll on top of everything because I loovvvee some eel. Our rolls were the "screaming O" and the "love shell". The screaming O contains raw fish but was just okay. The love shell was truly yummy. Rolls are both decently sized and would suffice as its own entree. To drink we tried the Orion beer which is a Japanese beer. Light, a bit sweeter than American beers, easy to drink. I will definitely come back here, probably for their Korean food! read more

Cute little sushi joint in cute little Cary. I love unassuming storefronts that turn into something amazing when you walk in. The space is small, not many tables, but the hospitality was much bigger. Our party of 5 ordered a good bit of sushi (including a rainbow roll with no rice upon special request which was gladly accommodated), so while we were waiting for our order we got a few complimentary dishes passed out to the table which I loved! The Fire Station roll looked tempting. Otherwise most of their specialty roll choices were tempura or otherwise deep fried. I opted for a specialty roll (spicy tuna tempura something) and a plain old Philadelphia roll (because cream cheese...you understand). All in all a great experience for all involved including me and I'll be back to give a few of the other specialty rolls and probably some of the soup a try. read more
