Bruh. Get thee to Okay early lunch when they pop the Orange chicken out fresh. It's one of those unexplainable conundrums where you live somewhere that is a foodie haven but no one else has that sloppy, sodium-rich crap we all lovingly call Americanized breaded Chinese churcken. It's all over the East Coast where I just moved from, and this is the only place I've found in the Valley and North Hollywood that even comes close. I wish they had the same for General Tso's, but I digress. On top of the flavour and consistency being excellent, the serving size is incredible. For $10-15 you can get a single or double portion and they load it up so it entirely fills the big clamshell container. It will spill a lil into your lap when you get in the car if you're not careful. No other Chinese restaurant I've been to in Los Angeles blesses properly like this. I don't know what else is even on the menu, it's so good I just order the orange chicken and rice. It's a modest spot with shabby flooring and only blue-collar workers perusing the wares on their lunch break, but the staff is very friendly and again, equally generous with portions. Well considering the fact that I was pretty skeptical because the name is a dark joke... haha My friend convinced me to come and I was very happy she did because it was the best Chinese food I have ever had while being in the LA area for years. They are very very genuine with their food I could taste it in their meals, I am a personal chef myself and I take very much pride in tasting food and also the environment around me. We decided to check this place out because of the good Google reviews...what a big mistake that was. Place is filthy, old and unkept. The food was mediocre and not even the right temperature. The tables were dirty, had to ask one of the ladies to clean the table. If the place looks filthy in the dining area I can't imagine how the kitchen is. One 2 plate combo can feed 2 people or if you're a fatty like me you can devour it by yourself . The chow mein and rice are really good.
