A small "eclectic" business that has just about everything the home gardener needs. The service is always helpful, and kind. Some things are a little pricey, but others area a gem to find. They cater to the home gardener, and have a wide variety of things. Plus they always carry unique little plants in the off season, as well as a variety of plants in the spring. Pretty much everything you need for your green thumb is here! While there are definitely places you can purchase your flowers or vegetable plants cheaper, there is nothing the serious gardener won't find at OK. Need a specific grass seed that thrives in the shade... they have it. Want a certain kind of bird to hang around your bird feeder, they can get as nuanced as you like. Need to knock out some weeds? How many choices would you like? My personal favorite is their mole trap. It never misses and if you clean the rust of if it once a year, you should get a decade or more out of one. I hate moles with a passion as they destroy my beautiful yard, but the mole traps I own from OK have saved my lawn! If you're a gardener, this is a place to visit at least once. The building is crammed with stuff. This could be good and bad. Prices for soil amendments are cheaper than other places. Other items looked like they'd been sitting on the shelves for EVER... There are garden items, pet supplies, plants. Service was okay. When it got to be too much of a hassle to drive to the feed store in Pacific, Mo., where I used to get my chicken supplies, I looked around for a local feed store. OK Hatchery is the closest one to me located in Kirkwood. There's always a friendly cat near the door and entrance to the store who is happy to greet you. The interior reminds me of a lot of older feed stores I remember visiting growing up with barrels of seed and various products piled up high for patrons to scour through. The staff here are always friendly and helpful, and when you purchase large bags of feed they have an employee bring it out front to your car, which is incredibly helpful and courteous of them. I'll be sticking with OK Hatchery for all my chicken needs! Thank you! read more

OK Hatchery is a hot spot for urban farmers and gardeners! I frequent here often, since we have backyard chickens. They have several feed options, as well as seeds. They also carry lots of feeders, heaters, and water dispensers. I also like browsing around, and usually find something cool that I wasn't expecting to find, for our garden or house. I picked up 7 speckled sussex chicks and some feed a couple weeks ago. Prices were great and the workers couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. I had some questions, as this is my first foray into backyard chickens, and the gentleman was able to answer them expertly. This is an A+ store in my book. read more

Love love love this feed store. This was my first year feeding the wild birds (a sign I'm getting old, perhaps?) and the people at OK Hatchery have been extremely helpful and patient with me. They explained which birds like which seed, what kind of feeders to get and how to keep the squirrels at bay. One salesman actually walked around outside with me in the rain while I took too long deciding on which birdbath to buy! I cannot recommend them more. Sold me grass seed which was full of weeds and nutgrass. Refused to take responsibility for it, "wind must have blown in weeds", which is impossible because for 6 weeks the patch was growing some weed free grass, then after re-seeding with OK Hatchery seed this time we had weeds in 3 days. Wind apparently only blows in August, not July I presume? read more

I love this place. The store is crammed full of interesting lawn, gardening, bird feeding, animal care and outdoorsy stuff. Their bird seed is great; the birds swarm the feeders right after refill. (I've tried other places and the bagged stuff and the birds didn't like it nearly as much). The staff is helpful, but don't bother you if you're just browsing and my little guy loves the cat that hangs out in the store. It's a great place to shop. read more
