Spicy Tuna Roll and Spicy Salmon Roll
    Meri L.

I was in the area and needed to kill time. I've been on a sushi kick lately, so this is where I found myself. I started with the fire ball. It had a layer of salmon, crab, avocado and eel, and then topped with sauce. It was very flavorful and fresh. For my sushi rolls I had a spicy salmon roll and a spicy tuna roll. Spice was on point. Everything was very fresh and delicious. It is small inside, but they do have some tables. Service was excellent. My water was never empty as it was constantly refilled. I also requested no "crunch" in my sushi rolls. I was then informed the fire hall had crunch. They easily accommodated me and didn't put "crunch" in anything. I'd definitely be back!

    Spring Roll

I loveddddd how crispy both the spring rolls and the gyoza were. The maki combo I did was the spicy kani roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a California roll. It was all very yummy. They charge for individually $1.00 for the spicy mayo & eel sauce. I will be trying more items in the future.

Long time since I've been to this place. They opened up before I left for college, so I haven't been back in years. However, I saw that they opened up recently this week from being closed in a while as many other small businesses have. They have taken great precautions in keeping their staff and customers healthy. They have places tables at their doorway, and have a plastic barrier behind the tables leading into their dining room. So there is very limited interactions between you and the staff. They have also placed a sign on their outer door that says "one at a time" so only one person is in the lobby at each given time. I tried to order a lunch special today, but they only had dinner prices avalible. This is understandable, as most places can't afford to offer discounts right now. I ordered the vegetable tempura and it was really good! Came with rice, miso soup/salad, and sauce. I'm not sure what the sauce was, it wasn't very salty, and not very oily, it went really well with the food.

For example, I got the sexy salmon appetizer. It said it was sliced salmon wrapped around mango. What I got was seared salmon. I ordered the tuna tartar. On the menu it says it comes with sweet onion. That was not part of it. And I barely had any tuna. It was mostly avocado. The rolls we ordered were the wasabi roll and a tuna roll. The wasabi roll was supposed to have tuna, salmon and yellowtail. It did not look like there was yellowtail in it at all. It was very small. So the ingredients were a good quality, but they're very skimpy with the fish.

I came here for lunch and ordered the 3-roll lunch special: tuna avocado, salmon cucumber, and…read moresalmon avocado. The rolls were just okay; fresh enough, but nothing that really set them apart from any other basic maki rolls. I chose brown rice and wasn't informed there would be an upgrade charge nor did I see it mentioned anywhere on the menu. To my surprise, I was hit with a $3.75 fee. I usually don't mind paying a little extra, but what bothered me was not being told ahead of time, and the price felt a bit excessive for the small amount of rice used in the rolls. The lunch special also came with a choice of soup or salad. I went with the salad, which was also just okay and nothing memorable. Overall, the meal was fine but not impressive, and the unexpected charge left a sour note. I'm not sure if I'd return.

I'd seen the reviews about gruff servers on here before but shrugged it off as many times people exaggerate and the proximity to mom's home made it a convenient spot to go, plus my kids love hibachi so why not give it a shot. Called a week ahead and made a 4pm reservation, no issues there. Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating and we got stuck in traffic during the downpour, causing us to arrive at about 4:15. The front desk was empty and we waited about 5 minutes before anyone came to check us in, then another 5 or so before we were told our table was ready - not a big deal on our end, but the hostess felt compelled to shame me in front of everyone. With my family standing around and other guests in earshot as we're told the table is ready I get "Next time you need to be on time, we held seats for you!". At this point I seriously considered just walking out, especially when I saw the number of empty tables there were in the hibachi area when we were seated but decided to roll with it for the family's sake. To make matters worse we weren't even seated, just trying to corral a 2 year old into his booster seat and the waitress is wanting drink orders, not even asking if we're ready just what do you want to drink. This was far from a pleasant way to begin the meal. Thankfully once this debacle was over and done with the rest was smooth sailing. To be fair our chef was fantastic with the kids, very engaging and threw them some little toys while he worked to keep them going. And the food turned out to be quite good as well so it wasn't a complete failure thankfully. All in all a good meal but points off for the horrid customer service up front. Things happen, people run late sometimes especially in bad weather - no need for the public shaming especially when half the dining room is empty. Probably more like 3.5 stars in light of that but I'll round up here since the family wound up enjoying in the end.

Much like other places in this genre, one price gets you bottomless apps, salads, hibachi, sushi and more. Nothing I had tasted bad in any way, but there were some things I wasn't crazy about, and they all reeked of cheaping out. First, sashimi is an upcharge, a bit ridiculous in my book. And while the food was indeed tasty, there was a whole lot of filler and minimal seafood much of the time. Kani salad was almost entirely cucumber & tempura flakes, very little crab to be found. And this is the first time I've ever seen soft shell crab served chopped up - typically a spider roll for example is a nice size piece of it in there, but their 'jimmy roll' whatever crab may have been in there was minced to the point where you couldn't even taste it. While I didn't order hibachi I noticed that they limit you to one order from that column per person. The Little things like this made the experience feel cheapened, I'd rather they raise the cost a buck or two and stop with the upcharges and corner cutting, makes you feel a lot less ripped off. Also important to note - skip they white tuna, they're using escolar. You've been warned. Would I come back? If in the area with a group that wanted to go here, sure. But I definitely wouldn't go out of my way for it or even choose to dine here on my own again.
