Absolutely love this place! I've only sat down once pre-covid, but since they're usually pretty busy at night, I've had to resort to ordering takeout. They take a while to prepare, so I've found it best to call ahead of time and order for pickup so it'll be ready by the time I get there. Unfortunately (but understandably), they've raised prices in the past few years so not sure if it's worth the price to drive 20+ mins to get shaved ice :( but if I'm in the area post lunch/dinner will def stop in to grab a dessert. Just went to Okrumong and it was delicious! A women served us and she told us that she was the new owner, she was very nice and welcoming. Okrumong is the place you should take your korean date if its a hot summer day. This place serves up the some of the best bingsoo (korean shaved ice) in LA. The flavors i usually get is the green snow (matcha flavored) and the OG snow (milk flavored). Both are topped with mochi and some of the best red bean ive ever had. The shaved ice part is super soft and delicate, as if youre eating snow. Best part is the flavor is not only on the top, but throughout the dish. In the middle of shaved ice ball is a surprise, MORE RED BEAN! The service is usually really good (service is probably even better if you bring a korean) The shaved ice is served in a beauitiful chilled golden bowl that makes your 9 dollars you spent on some shaved ice seem worth it. Overall great shaved ice, and a great treat for these melting humid south bay summer days. read more

Korean dessert without driving to Ktown in LA! I've been dying to try the Korean style shave ice (bingsoo) for a couple months but always cringe of the thought to drive to LA's Ktown. Luckily, I found Okrumong (also located on 6th Street in Ktown) in the Torrance neighbor and quickly stopped by to check out this cool delectable treat. Entering this cute and modern shop, the staff was first to greet me and asked if I had any questions. My heart was set on the Green Snow Ball with Red Bean Shave Ice ($8.25, yes that is not a typo!). To clarify, this was made with ice (not milk based), green tea syrup, sweeten red been inside and out with two homemade mochi balls sitting on top. The ice was extremely fine without the crunchy texture which can immediately ruin a dessert like this. I was thoroughly impressed with the green tea flavor and requested less syrup because I didn't want it to drowning at the bottom of the bowl. The staff explained the red bean was made daily with plenty of care and attention. I liked how it was perfectly cooked without being too sweet or mushy. After I placed my order, I noticed on the menu a warm Sweet Pumpkin Porridge ($7.25). He was so kind to let me sample it and I would consider requesting this on a cool day or evening. There was plenty of seating and they offer free WiFi. I loved how they had self serve warm and cold water pitchers on the shelves. W went here thinking that was a tea bar with several choices of teas. But noooo it's just about 5 teas. They specialize in shaved ice. I enjoy blueberry shaved ice which was topped with all blueberries and a few frosty flakes and that mixture was good together. They seem to have great customer service, but I don't understand why the shaved ice is so small for $12 when I got three times that size at the Korean shaved ice place in Bueno Park for the same price. There were also some ice crystals or small chunks of ice when it shouldn't. The taiyaki was good though. I am just not sure if they use good ingredients because my body did not react right afterwards. I was totally fine after eating the huge shaved ice at the other place though. Honestly, not a big fan of their shaved ice because i prefer more milky, sweet, and fruity korean shaved ice. However, i recently went in for their taiyaki (korean ). 1. They advertise it for 5 for $12 (have 3 different flavors) but then they charged me $16 because i ordered different flavors. Wish they could've told me that when I asked "can I mix and match it?" 2. Surprisingly, their cheese flavor was the best. (There is also red bean and custard. Red bean was sweet and good but they put in very little filling so I could not enjoy 100% of it. Custard was the most disappointing. Not sweet at all and they hardly put anything in it. I felt like I was just eating the bread.) 3. Okrumong is one of the few Korean styled cafes in Torrance. All other Korean dessert places are in DTLA or Gardena... When I walked in this time, it was packed! I feel like it used to only be known to the Korean community, but I was surprised to see that it was a place many non-Koreans came to get dessert/enjoy time with their family. My favorite order is the Gold bowl and the red bean fishiessss. The red bean fish is a true Korean snack~ and now they offer Nutella or cheese filling replacements. The lady at the cashier was not friendly at all and didn't want to talk to me. for some reason I felt very unwelcomed there. we asked her about the difference in sizes between the mini and the regular and she didn't say anything back, she just kind of held the mini size and expected me to know what the regular one was. oddly enough, when a korean speaking lady came in, she seemed more friendly to her. we ordered the strawberry snow bowl and, like someone else had already said here, too pricey for my tastes. it was pretty small, though they did give a lot of strawberries. there were some chunks of ice in it though when it's supposed to be fluffy-like. but taste wise, it was your typical korean milk shaved ice. read more

One thing I hate is I paid $11 for snow and I only get it in 16oz when I order to go. I meant it's $11! I went to other place that sell similar stuff and I usually get 64oz. After all it's just an ice... it's not a lot of cost to invest so it shouldn't be that little ( to be fair ). They also have a half order. It's called mini snow. Finally found a place that serves the perfect Korean shaved ice without having to travel all the way to Koreatown in LA because we all know being stuck in traffic would be the death of us. ***FOOD 1) Matcha Snow Ball - my god was this heavenly. The matcha flavor is definitely present and not lost in the ice, but it also wasn't overpowering like it can be sometimes. The Golden Snow Ball is just as delicious!! It's often accompanied by milk, cereal, ice cream, jelly, chopped fruit, condensed milk, syrup, or rice cake. Okrumong's version is quite simple. Theirs contain signature shaved ice, sticky rice cake balls, and premium cooked red bean. The rice cake balls on top of the bingsu are perfect - soft and chewy. The Snow Bowl comes in 4 different shaved ice flavors - Snow Milk, Green Tea, Gold, and Black. They also carry 3 different porridges - Traditional Red Bean, Sweet Red Bean, and Sweet Pumpkin. I don't normally like the traditional red bean porridge, but I ate almost half the container myself. The Snow Cups (OG, Red, Purple, Yellow) are refreshing. It's really different. They add ingredients such as different flavored yogurts, coconut flakes, granola, almonds, honey, fresh & dried fruit, and juices - all in a convenient container. Baked items include Rice Cake and Red Bean Bread. The Rice Cake was great. The texture being ever so subtle. It's not too sweet, but balanced just right. With the Snow Bowl priced at over 8 bucks a pop and the Snow Cups close to 5 dollars, I can see why Yelpers cringe at the bill. The portions are smaller, but for someone who's cutting back on sweets, I think one serving of the Snow Bowl is enough for two people. The feeling I get here is more traditional, as the quality and texture of the red bean is amazing, not to mention the presentation if you consider dining in. The special gold colored bowl and spoon are supposedly made in the Geochang, Gyeongnam region of South Korea. Someone told me that you can actually purchase one to take home, so that'll be my homework assignment for next time. SECRET OF THE TASTE The red beans are cooked in house, in an iron cauldron. Thru extensive research, they found ways to remove the unwanted remains to produce a genuine taste. According to Okrumong, "healthy beans lead to a healthier body," as red beans contain antioxidants, protein, vitamin B1, iron, and minerals. One of my favorite places to get dessert whenever I'm around the area! /food If you're a huge fan of red bean, this is the place for you! I usually get their green snow ball - which is basically green tea ice with multiple layers of red bean. It's topped with two mochi rice cakes on top~ It may seem like too much red bean at first, but the green tea shaved ice really compliments it - so you don't really get tired of the red bean texture. They also had these baked rice cakes (white and black), which are baked fresh every day! They were really good - they had this mochi-like, chewy texture. If I wasn't in the mood for anything cold- especially if it's a cold day- i'd still make my way out to Okrumong to get these little delights. There's also this shikeh (sikhye) drink they have that I absolutely love! The first time I had this kind of sweet rice drink was after eating a meal at a korean restaurant - because they claim it is good for digestion. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? YES. Parking: Valet parking in front. Hard to find street parking. I know. Valet for shaved ice? Doesn't make sense but this is LA right?? Service: Self service. Ugh. But the kids who work here have horrible attitude. When I went, there were 2 girls working in front of the cashier, chatting about what they had for dinner the night before. I had to wait in front of the counter until they finished talking and this girl finally asked me what I wanted. All she said was "what do you want to order?" and handed me a buzzer after I paid. Then this girl went right back to chitchatting with her coworker. What really made me disappointed was that they had the whole pan of rice cake (mochi that they give you as a side) opened and eating with bare hands while talking... Hmm...It was something different to try. But I'm not going back again for shaved ice. I guess I expected too much from the reviews. The place is very clean and modern looking though. So anyway, I tried better Korean shaved ice than theirs. It is not as "soft and fluffy" as I'm expecting. The red beans are fantastic and also the sticky rice pastry. This is my second time going here and I'm always surprised on how calm and empty this place is. I've only tried their snow bowls, but from the taste of it I can tell that the rest of their desserts are probably really good as well. Looks can be deceiving, the bowl may look small but once you actually eat it, it's so fulfilling! My favorite has to be the Oreo, but I can be very bias since my favorite ice cream is cookies and cream. The ice is so smooth to the touch and the little crunch of toppings gives a good flavor. There are many things to consider with a place like this. 1. Taste The concept is simple. Finely shaved ice with milk, red bean, rice cakes. I've tried both the original (traditional) and the green tea. Both are absolutely delicious. And the key to a good Korean-style shaved ice is the red bean. The red bean makes it special and the red bean tastes just amazing. 2. Price It's $8-9 per bowl. I believe the non-red bean options (fruits, whatnot) are a little bit cheaper. It seems a bit steep, but honestly we pay $5 for frozen yogurt at Pinkberry. The question is whether it's worth the $8-9. 3. Convenience A lot of Korean moms were saying after trying this place, "I COULD JUST MAKE THIS AT HOME." But if it was that easy, these types of shops would not be extremely popular in Korea (some have 60-90 minute waits). First thing you have to get right is the ice itself. Most shaved ice machines cannot achieve that snow-like texture. Second thing is getting the milk just right. It's not a sweet condensed milk, so you have to find the right kind and the right amount. Third is the red bean. In order to get red bean this good in the US, especially, you have to order it. Red bean you get in a can in the Korean markets aren't this good. Fourth is the rice cake. The rice cake takes time to make. So yes, it makes it easy to just drive down to a shop that serves these. It IS in Torrance, so it may be hard to get to for people from out of town. 4. Authenticity Like I said earlier, the red bean is key. And like I said earlier, the red bean is hard to get here. Okrumong gets their red bean from a supplier in Korea and the red bean is especially made for them. It's not bought in any old supermarket. Okrumong's shaved ice reminds me of the amazing red bean shaved ice that I seek out every time I go to Korea. 5. Variety And the last part that I love about this place is the fact that it's not just for shaved ice. Most places in Korea shut down for the winter, when shaved ice is definitely not popular in subzero temperature. This place offers different kinds of jook (porridges) for the fall/winter season. They have pumpkin porridge and red bean porridge, both of which are hard to acquire in stores. They usually have to be made by grandmas and moms who know the perfect recipe. I haven't tried them yet, but I can't wait to try them once the weather cools down. There's no place like this in LA. No place that has such good, authentic red bean, and no place that does shaved ice like they do in Korea. I love this place, and I"ll come back here whenever I have a hankering for it! read more

It was perfectly sweetened and I LOVE how they layer the flavor throughout the softball-size ball of ice. (Don't you hate it when you run out of syrup after eating the top layer of your snow cone?!)
