Excellent French onion soup, pot roast, chicken pot pie and the 819 (which is a burger with jalapeño aioli). Chef showed my kids how they caramelize the creme brûlée. My office is located near this restaurant, so I stop in for a bite quite frequently. The food is consistently excellent, the service staff is friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself is has clean and casual feel. I especially like the burgers, but i have also had the chicken salad wraps and the pot roast. I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. Also, this place is located very close to a classy wine bar called BR Vino, and these establishments collaborate in their offerings so you can enjoy an excellent wine and beer selection to go along with your meal at the restaurant, or a good meal to go with your beverage at the wine bar. We came for a fundraiser at the museum, and since the food at the old fashion fountain place is not "with in " nobody in the family's diet, we decided to give this place a go. The musician playing the guitar was fantastic!!! He made the 53 minute wait for the food to come out bearable. The food wasn't bad, actually was really good. But, oh the wait! Our waitress disappeared and the other two guys didn't care for it, finally had to ask one of them to "please take our table" and they finally brought silverware, napkins, refilled our drinks and brought or food. Have been to the café twice now. Once just for burgers and once for Mothers day brunch. The servers are splendid the pricing for what you get I have not a complaint in the world. Both experiences though different both were great. I've been here 3 times and can say that the quality of the food has been consistently great, fresh, and tasty. The burgers are to die for and the fries taste like they're homemade. The spicy Cali sandwich is yummy and make sure you ask for the jalapeño bread and aioli. We've also had the key lime pie here and can attest that it is fabulous! The wait staff are attentive and super friendly. Love how they use their iPads to let you pay your bill at the table. The prices here are very reasonable too. The charm is there. Real cool inside. However we went at 4ish on Friday and it was so dead inside. We were the only people. Got the crab cakes appetizer. The cakes themselves were ok. However they were covered in a weird spicy mustard aioli I would definitely ask for on the side. We got the fish and shrimp fry special it was not bad. A little too much pepper. But the weirdest thing happened with my daughter's burger meal. The stated it was mini cheeseburgers. I assumed little sliders. She was given a dry cafeteria style burger with nothing on it. The waitress even asked if i wanted everything on it. I then requested it again and 3 minutes later came back with a plate with everything on the side. Weird. Probably won't come back. This was my second time visit. The first time (4 years ago) was really bad and vowed never to return. Fortunately, my second time was better. My adult daughter and I came in for lunch. After reading the yelp reviews we decided to take a chance. The cafe looked a lot nicer than it did years ago on my first visit. Wood tables give the interior a rustic look which fits in well with the area. The place can get noisy. We were the only ones eating until some loud mouth lady (regular diner?) came in shouting out to the employees across the seating area. I almost got up to tell her to shut up. The cafe did get a lot more noisy with the mid day lunch crowd. So, I wouldn't consider this a quiet place for a romantic night out. Note: The entrance is on Avenue G and not 2nd street. We were greeted and seated immediately. The waiter took our drink order and we both decided to have water. The water had a funny taste to it. Not sure if it was the ice or the water itself. My daughter ordered the fish/shrimp special for $13. I opted for their 819 hamburger for $10. The hamburger sounded good with the jalapeno aioli mayo. With both meals we requested fries. Where we sat we could see into the kitchen. Their fries are house cut and we did see them cutting the potatoes. The seafood was hand battered. Our food came out quick. The first thing my daughter noticed she didn't have any fried shrimp. The waiter noticed it as well and went to the kitchen to explain to the cook the special included shrimp. The three strips of fish are fried with a tasteless tempura type of batter. Neither one of us are fans of tempura fried mainly because of the greasy taste. The fried fish was very greasy. The three shrimp came out and they too had the tempura batter. More grease. My daughter didn't finish her meal and opted not to take the leftover home. My hamburger was ok. The meat tasted fresh and I could tell it was made with a good quality beef. The burger was a little too juicy and the bun disintegrated. I never tasted a difference in the jalapeno aioli mayo to just plain mayo. However, the burger wasn't bad. Like I said, the beef patty was good. The fries on both meals were cooked perfectly and were excellent. I debated between three and four stars. The food was so so. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was good for the area. Based on yelp's rating description, I gave the cafe a three star rating because I found the cafe was "A-OK" and not "I'm a Fan" with a four star. I do plan on returning and I'll try something different. read more

The server left to get a question answered while she was serveing us and she left to the kitchen and the next time we saw her she was sitting down and eatting without even comeing back to us. We order some fried Green Beans and when we get them they werent to bad just too done the green beans had no cruch to them. The tea was old. they are trying to be a fancy place but arent really their yet. Their POS (Point of Sale) system is something else. They may think its the way of the future but i really would like my paper recipet when im paying for something not putting my email or phone number in for them to send me the bill, and use it to do adds and such. And there is no way to do tips good as for the fact you can only select 15%, 20 or 25% or no tip at all, witch i didnt like at all seeing as for three people it was 60 dollars and then the tip. So unless they fix the food, train the servers, fix the POS system then i may go back and try it again. Its no Rays. read more

The sandwich was made with greasy BBQ pork !! BBQ meat does not belong on this type of sandwich... Grease and BBQ was dripping off of it as I was trying to eat. I found the menu very small with little choices. Everything on the menu was over priced. Don't stop here.. The next day I went around the building and ate at.. Another Time Soda Fountain and Cafe.... now this place is off the chain !! Wonderful.. Wonderful... Wonderful..... Everything homemade including the soft drinks and desserts... Wow what a gem we found. Came in from out town and didn't want to wait at a chain steakhouse for an hour. Found this restaurant and decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The wait staff was on point and very attentive. You could see the chef preparing each plate. We had a ribeye steak and chicken cordon blue. It was all delicious to the last bite. This place is great if you're in our near the downtown Rosenberg area. They have a clean & comfortable table dining room, great casual atmosphere and good service. Seems like one of the only non-chain restaurants in the area that does this type of cooking with attention to detail and quality. All menu items over tried have been good. I went in once when I first moved to the area. The food is good but a bit pricey for burgers. I did have a bowl of soup from them I wasn't crazy about but I do recommend them to friends who visit downtown Rosenberg. I just let them know the price range. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable and the owner is friendly and doesn't mind answering questions from new people. I haven't been back but I would go again to support local businesses.
