I kept having this flashback the entire time we were eating at this marvelous little shack. The nautical decor, the menu choices, the friendly service, all contributed to a truly memorable night's meal. We really appreciated the menu choices offering three different seafood treats on a platter. DW chose the grouper, shrimp, and scallops platter, while I went for grouper, flounder, and scallops. I've been here multiple times and recently have come back as I recommended it to someone who was new in the area. This is about 45 minutes away from me and I was very disappointed. The service was excellent as always, but I just was not thrilled with the food this time. We tried the crab eggrolls I think is what it was called. Maybe it was lobster. I don't know. I ate half of one and gave the rest to my friend. I tried the three pepper crab soup I could not finish. It did not like it at all. I had the standard fried fish platter with grouper, scallops, and shrimp. This was actually delicious and so was the sweet potato fries and the macaroni salad and I typically do not like macaroni salad at all, but this was delicious. I took home smoked salmon, fish spread, and a large container of the lobster bisque. The smoked salmon spread definitely had more cream cheese than fish not bad tasting just disappointed on the amount of cream cheese. First time I've had their lobster bisque and it will be the last time. This is more like a lobster soup. It has so many chunks of celery in it and I've never had a bisque with large celery chunks before it wasn't bad tasting necessarily, but when you're thinking you're about to eat some bisque and it taste like this it's quite disappointing. I don't think they use Sherry in this particular bisque. read more

We stopped here for lunch and sat outside (not a great view and rather noisy, but we had the dog with us.). We shared the gator bites which were tender and tasty. (I did add some hot sauce to the accompanying dip.). I had the three pepper crab soup and my husband had the gumbo. The crab soup was creamy and tasty but not overwhelmingly crabby, although there is a lot of crab in it. The gumbo was good with visible shrimp and crawfish. The service was friendly and quick. This is a popular seafood eatery at Tarpon Springs area. We ordered a hot lobster roll with potato salad and sweet potato fries. It took a while for the dish to come out. When I ate the lobster meat, it tasted like imitation lobster meat. Maybe a very small percentage of the meat was real lobster. But most of the meat tasted fake. I don't like synthetic seafood . I would rather eat real shrimp, clam or real grouper fish. We bought a jar of New England clam chowder to take home. After reheat it in microwave, the soup tasted very good -big chunk of clam meat, some vegetable and good flavor. This clam chowder made me happy, kind of compensated my disappointment of the lobster roll. read more

This one came to me via email so I decided to drive out and get something to bring back home. It is a small place with about 7 tables holding from 2 to 4 people. The decor is old style as can be seen in the photo. The clientele when I went was more of the senior citizen variety. Not that there is anything wrong but don't come expecting a lively crowd. The menu is simple and straightforward. I ordered a bowl of the Gumbo to save for tomorrow's lunch. I also ordered the fried oyster platter with fries and baked beans. In order to get a feeling for their offerings I got the fried catfish platter that came with fries and I got the homemade bean salad. Once I got home and opened the boxes it showed that the portions were okay but it was over $40 for what you see. The bean salad and baked beans were small in size. Now the taste of the bean salad was surprisingly good. I tried the baked beans and they seem to come out of a can. There was no extra seasoning or it was cooked with any type of meat at all. The french fries would not season didn't seem to have salt and pepper. I went for the fried oysters now I could tell once again no seasoning in the batter just seem to be straight fried. They were OK but once again, no seasoning, and I could tell by the look of the catfish no seasoning there at all. All in all I have to say that the food was filling but not exciting to the taste buds. I'll have to give this place 3.8 stars. read more

We ate here on a Saturday night around 6 pm. It is a small, clean place with about 8 tables or so, mostly 4 tops. We were sat right away. They only have canned soda with solo cups and ice which I didn't care for. We ordered the hush puppies and smoked salmon dip to start. The hush puppies were crispy and moist in the center and a nice portion. I didn't care much for the dipping sauce but we got cocktail sauce instead and that paired well. The smoked salmon dip was not a typical fish dip. It was more like a heavy cream cheese dip like you would put on a bagel. It has slivers of lox type salmon which threw me off. I figured it was going to be filets smoked and shredded in some mayo/sour cream type of dip. The dip was decent, but I wasn't loving it. I ordered the shrimp and clam strips basket with bean salad and Cole slaw. The clams and shrimp were crispy and breaded nicely. Again, they served it with this orange colored dipping sauce and cocktail. The bean salad was good and the coleslaw was not bad. The seafood was fresh so that was a bonus for the mediocre coleslaw. We also tried the grilled, blackened grouper Rueben. The grouper was not very seasoned, the sandwich tasted mostly like sauerkraut. For the price, it was on the smaller side as well. The sweet potato fries were good. The macaroni salad was not edible. It was oily from the mayonnaise curdling and had an odd seasoning in it. I gave three stars because the seafood was fresh and the food was hot. But the taste of everything was just not that impressive. read more

Visited the fish guy for the first time today. I can tell you I've driven by hundreds of times and finally decided to try it after speaking with a stranger about it today. The business is actually in an old Florida style house from the 1920's. Inside is no different. Quaint and cozy the place was packed. That's one good sign that it must be good. The menu is plentiful of all different fresh seafood and I elected for the grilled blackened shrimp. My sides were waffle style sweet potato fries and corn on the cob. My meal was excellent and the shrimp had the perfect seasonings and the perfect "snap" when taking a bite. Each bite was better than the previous. I always like to patronize the mom and pop places in town and this one is a place you must try. They also sell bulk seafood to go. 5 of us loved the food here again. Their fried cod is fantastic! I had the Fisherman's Platter. It has fried scallops, breaded shrimp, and a large portion of fried cod. You get your choice of sides, I chose homemade potatoe salad. Yum yum!! My wife had the grilled grouper and loved it. My sister chose blackened grouper and pronounced it delicious! My 100 year old Mom had the Fisherman's Platter too. What a great family meal! Portions are always generous here. They also have a store that sells fresh fish and all types of seafood. You cannot believe a side street of Holiday area has this great seafood restaurant. Local know about this place. We start with 3-pepper crab soup. Plenty of crab meat. A bit spicy. Almost like Cajun style. We like this unique soup. We do have to send back the New England clam chowder. They taste a bit sour like vinegar. We also order a dozen of cedar key little neck. It is fresh sea taste. We t come with cocktail and butter dipping sauce. Our main dish is the blackened grouper, shrimp and scallops. The scallops is sea giant scallops. Since we close to home of scalloping, it is big and great. The shrimp come in five pieces. The grouper is good quantity. I like the Cajun blackened they use. The other dish is lobster roll. This roll I am not recommended. It has the imitation crab meat and lobster meat. I rather they use full lobster. Service is a bit slow. It also can be a lot more attentive. It was served, piping hot, and the scallops and shrimp tasted wonderful. The shrimp and the scallops were very nice size and tasted so fresh. I ordered hush puppies instead of a traditional side. They were absolutely perfect. The fish fillet was flounder. It was fried very nicely. I really enjoyed it. The menu features fried platters and non-fried platters. You can have your fish blackened grilled or steamed with two sides. They offer a sandwich and a children's menu, As well as a land lovers menu. The service was very prompt and very courteous. And the server still sent us off... Why be open until 8:00pm. Never have I been sent home when entering a business during their designated hours. I'm from Louisiana and I don't think I've had this breading on my fish before. The breading on the pickles was too thick for my liking as well. The old guy who owns this red neck place started an argument about politics . When I disagreed with him, he treated me very rudely and with disrespect. His son tried to patch things up saying " I'm trying to get him to change but it's difficult," but the damage had already been done. Also they lied about the bean salad being homemade because I found it at sams club . Also their lobster roll is full of imitation crab meat and doesn't taste like lobster at all despite the old guy bragging about it. I now go elsewhere to get the real McCoy for lobster rolls and they are delicious and so much better than anything at " The Fish Guy." I will never set foot in this restaurant again . I'm relieved because the quality of the clientele is subpar because they are all Trumpers which means they are MAGAMORONS who are filled with hatred and vile contempt for our democracy. read more
