Today I came, but it was just too hot enjoy soup, though I love the Khoi Soi so much... I had the Nam yang. Which it's much better than it looks in the menu, they've changed the presentation. It's basically like a spicy sour pork sausage that comes with all these added things you could put to make lettuce wraps. The fresh peanuts, the garlic, the onions, the birdseed chili so tasty. And because you build them yourself, you can have them as meat fill or less whatever you'd like. It's so perfect on a hot day. And then I was still a teeny bit hungry so I went ahead and got the tofu bites which were volcanically hot at first, but once they cool down, they were amazing. I like to split them open and then dip them into the sweet-and-sour sauce that comes with them. My friend likes to add a little bit of the chili sauce to it, make a little spicy too... The Beauty of all their appetizers is you can be creative with so many beautiful things ... they have for you to eat and can build your own. For example, when you get a soup, they come with pickles and mint and lime and other amazing ingredients so you can build it the way you want it and the beauty of getting the two I got today was what I didn't eat on the lettuce wraps I could add to the tofu bites and it was amazing . I had the Thai lemon tea, which is one of my favorites and then I had a coconut water, which was delicious. I highly recommend you come by and try. The food just wasn't that good for the price. Service was soooooo slow and not attentive at all. The temperature inside the restaurant was also on the warm side - just an overall unpleasant experience. We got tomyum noodles, beef fried rice, wings, fried tofu bites, pink milk, and a slice of pandan cake. *Tomyum noodles - very mid. *Garlic beef fried rice - just fried rice with some beef on top. *Fried tofu - ok. *Wings - basically frozen wings from Sam's. *Pink milk drink - very very bland and artificial tasting *Pandan coconut cake - pretty good but NOT worth $12 a slice(!) Our tab came out to $85 and I just felt like it was such a rip off for the service and food quality tbh. Don't recommend this place. Stick to somewhere more central to Carrollton/Plano if you want good Thai food I guess. Plenty of parking. read more

can't really comment on the service nor the interior, as i ordered on doordash for a pickup. But this place is located in the corner of the Kroger shopping plaza, where the old malacca cafe used to be. I'm not sure if the owner is the same or its a completely new management team. We ended up getting to go: Boat noodles with chicken. Tom Yum Egg Noodles with chicken. It was packaged nicely as they separated the soup and the noodles. The tom yum noodles was bursting with flavor and was my favorite thing out of the two dishes. the boat noodles were also really good. I stopped by for a solo lunch, and enjoyed my meal so much! I tried the boat noodles, which were customizable and delicious. I ordered mine with rice noodles, boat soup, and shank beef. The chili oil here is soooo delicious (and very spicy!). The interior is beautifully designed, with a semi private room available for groups. Stopped in after seeing some great reviews. The sign outside was for the previous establishment, but there is a smaller sign denoting the new name of the restaurant. The decor of the restaurant is very inviting and upscale. We were seated right away and our server was friendly and efficient throughout. We decided on the Wrap plate with Pork. It was fresh and tasty and a generous portion. All of the veggies were very fresh and the server even offered additional veggies when we started to run out. I've been looking for a place that serves khao soi and finally found it! Don't be fooled by the funny name...they seriously have some GOOD FOOD here. I loved the soft deep house music vibes in the lobby and ambient lighting decor on the walls. There was even a neat motion wall. Overall, just good classy but laid back vibes, delicious food, and very friendly service. I even overheard several customers at other tables keep commenting "this is SO GOOD". I would come back. Here's what we ordered: - duck khao soi: the duck was prepared perfectly. Not dry at all. Very tender. Not a gimicky meat choice for a fantastic dish - Chicken tom yum: unique. Location (4/5): Corner spot in the same plaza as the Kroger. It was kind hard to spot since the sign was not very big. I was surprised how nice it looked inside compared to the exterior view. It had an overall relaxed/chill vibe to it. Food (5/5): Started with the curry puffs which was one of the best I've had. Really flaky and good amount of stuffing in them. A beautiful upper tier Thai restaurant. Feels new, clean, and trendy. We ordered the Khao soi, tom yum, and kra pow. All were excellent, deep, and flavorful. We're big Thai food fans and their style of cooking set itself apart from some of our favorites spots. I was impressed that the garnishes were served on the side. My wife doesn't like onions or cilantro and I love them, so being able to share with her, and then add them in for myself was appreciated. If you are craving flavorful boat noodles then Old Boy is the place to end your cravings. This spot has been home to a few other noodle shops in the past. The menu is noodles geared towards Thai cuisine. I will say for Thai food that the menu is above the average amount that you normally pay for Thai food, but I think the reason why is that it is in Southlake and the ambience is pretty fancy for a noodle shop. The service is very fast and knowledgeable about their menu which is always good. The food itself was pretty good. I enjoyed the appetizers and the boat noodles. This is probably a very good place for a romantic noodle dinner or a nice work lunch. I think I'll come back again for date night with the wife. read more

Really solid food and the service is great. I do miss Malacca, it's very difficult to find Malaysian food. The inside is basically the same and some of the staff is the same as well. The curry puffs weren't as authentic as I hoped but the beef bowl was very good. The khao soi was also spicier than I expected, I was surprised when the receipt said "non spicy". I think they'll have to tone it down a bit to cater it to the people in the area. Overall, great spot; but Malacca will be missed. Hoping they can open closer to Plano or Frisco, I think the cuisine would be more appreciated there than where it originally opened. read more

This was my fifth visit, and based on my first four experiences, I would have easily rated the food 5/5. Unfortunately, this visit was a major miss across every dish, and I'm not sure what happened in the kitchen this time. The shao mai was noticeably disappointing. The wrapper was much drier than before, almost as if it had been sitting exposed to air for too long, or had been steamed earlier and reheated later. The boat noodles also felt very different from my previous visits. There was far more blood in the broth than before, which gave it a bitter flavor and a muddy, mushy taste. The noodles themselves were overcooked and soggy, which made the whole bowl feel heavy rather than balanced. The pad see ew was also soggy and over-dressed. The seasoning was too aggressive--too salty, too sweet, and too spicy--without the balance I remembered from past visits. I really hope this was just an off day, because this place used to be consistently excellent. I'd love to see it return to the quality that made me come back four times before. read more

I've been wanting to try this place with my bf for a while and I'm glad we were in the area to try it out. They opened a few months ago so Old Boy doesn't have a sign up yet but look for Malacca Cafe on the corner, right of Kroger. I like the vibe inside, it makes you forget you're in a Kroger plaza. The staff is super friendly and helpful with recommendations since we were newcomers. We've had our fair share of Thai food but there were still plenty we haven't tried/heard of. We got the curry puffs to start and a coffee cloud and nom yen (Thai pink drink). The curry puffs were soooo good. Packed with flavor, very fluffy with a sweet and sour sauce. The drinks were fun and refreshing. The nom yen was fruity and a little tangy, a flavor I've never had before. The coffee cloud was a coffee foam on top of coconut water with fresh coconut meat. Paired well with the heavier dishes. For our entrees, we ordered the beef shank boat noodle and duck khao soi. If you've never tried boat noodles before, it makes me think of a crossover of pho and beef noodle soup. Hearty but still light. I love the delicate tendon and meatballs too. Perfect for a rainy day. The khao soi was rich in flavor, and melded well with the crispy duck. Always a favorite dish of mine. This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in Dallas Tx The food tastes just like it does in Thailand. The chicken biryani was perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and cooked just right. The boat noodles were incredibly authentic, bringing back memories of eating them in Thailand. The grilled fish wraps with tamarind dipping sauce were absolutely outstanding--the sauce was the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory. Every dish we ordered was delicious. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere with a trendy New York-style vibe, great music, and excellent service. My wife and I visited Old Boy this past weekend. I had read it had recently opened and was curious to try. We noticed that the decor and seating was the same as the previous restaurant in that space. Upon walking in we noticed quite a few tables occupied and one large party. It was good to see that several people were there for a newly opened restaurant. We were seated next the large party of about 18-20 people. The party was so loud that my wife and I could not have a conversation without raising our voices, while not a fault of the restaurant it still impacted the experience. Since it was mid-afternoon we decided to order a few appetizers. We have enjoyed all of these at various other Asian restaurants. We then waited, and waited, and waited. It was over 30 mins to get one appetizer and an additional 5 minutes for the other two. Since the reset of the reviews raved about the food I had high hopes. But was let down. I do not know if it was the kitchen was over burdened or if it was normal fair. The server only checked in once. We finished our food and then sat there. We could not get the attention of anyone. 10 minutes later my wife caught the attention of the manager. She came to clear our plates and asked if we wanted anything else. We replied no and she replied "Only appetizers?" in a condescending tone. I thought this very odd since I grew up in Southeast Asia and my godfather was Thai. I normally do not make negative reviews but this experience did not sit well with me. If you go I hope you have a better experience than we did. read more

I didn't get a picture of the boat noodle but let me tell you it was probably my least favorite, the broth was too sweet and it had a coconut flavor not the best. I give it a 5/10. came in during soft opening and though their food tasted very good (get the khao soi you will not be disappointed!!!) they definitely have a lot of things to improve on service wise. first, when we came in there wasnt anyone to greet us. waited for about a minute or two and then we decided to just sit ourselves. the waiter eventually came out and handed us the menu after some time. food came out at a reasonable time but the waiter got my friend's order completely wrong. she got a different protein and a different type of noodle than what she ordered for her boat noodle. taste wise the khao soi and both broths for the boat noodles was very good. no notes. looking forward to come back and try out their other stuff and for hopefully better service next time read more

We used to come to this location all the time when it was Malacca, and we went again during their soft opening. We recognized the waiter as one of the Malacca waiters so I'm glad he still is around. They had a limited menu while we were there but I believe they will be basing their core menu around khao soi noodles. I usually don't get khao soi because I'm such a big fan of pad Thai, pad see yew etc but for a first time, it was awesome! It had the nuttiness of like massaman curry and great depth of flavor. It was actually a bit too spicy for me and I don't think the level is that adjustable so I had to alternate between bites and sips of Thai iced tea. But it's definitely a dish good enough to go back for. I got it with the chicken and some of the pieces were really tender and some just okay. I'm looking forward to coming back and getting the khao soi again as well as exploring the full menu options. The ambiance of this place is more upscale than your typical strip mall Asian restaurant. It's beautiful inside with a gorgeous private room for large parties (two big round tables). They are still in their soft opening phase (I loved the place that was here prior to them). Service was excellent - glad to see one of my fave servers is still there. He made absolutely perfect recommendations. Appetizers were generous in portion size And each was delicious. The curry puffs were unique and flaky. The sausage dish was served with lettuce to wrap along with cucumbers, peppers, garlic, onions, peanuts and lime. Super yummy. And their homemade dumplings were juicy and flavorful - unlike any that I've ever had. For entrees we shared the khao soi with crispy duck and the tom yum with ground chicken and rice noodles. Presentation was beautiful and each was absolutely delectable in their own right. Why 4 vs 5 Stars? I would've liked much more broth in each of the main dishes. While it didn't necessarily take away from the experience, more soup would've put both over the top in a good way. Seriously some of the best food I've had in a very long time. My husband and I are big Thai food fans and we had never heard of "boat noodle" before, even when we visited Thailand. Holy cow have we been missing out. I had the boat noodles with the roasted duck and the flavor of the broth I'd like nothing I've ever had before. Duck was so, so good. My husband had the khao soi and the flavors were also really great. Also had the dumplings for appetizer. The sauce on the dumplings was unique and very teriyaki/barbecue sauce-like. Very good They still haven't removed the name of the previous business from overhead on the outside of the shopping center. It's very unassuming from the outside and decorated beautifully inside. So happy we finally have an authentic Thai spot in Southlake We've been here three times now, and it has been consistently amazing every single visit. The boat noodles are the real deal, rich, deeply flavorful broth with that perfect balance of savory and spice. You can tell it's made the traditional way. And the khao soi? Absolutely incredible. Creamy, fragrant curry with tender noodles and that satisfying crunch on top. It tastes like something you'd get in Northern Thailand. Everything we've tried has been fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. The consistency is what really impressed us( three visits in and it's been great every time. Very strange experience. Was thrown off by the fact that the sign doesn't match the name of the business which made it difficult to find. Decided to visit based on good reviews on Yelp however, our food was disappointing. Pad krapow had a sauce similar to teriyaki unlike any I've ever experienced. Sweet and sticky instead of stirfry as expected, and the beef was not very fresh. Had the boat noodles with the clear broth and it was supposed to be tie take on pho but I would've rather had pho.
