I saw discussions on local social media groups asking for the best deep dish style pizza in Columbia and Old Chicago kept popping up. I had visited on previous occasions but hadn't tried the deep dish pizza (the other food I tried was excellent). My mistake! The deep dish Buffalo Cluck was outstanding! The crust was light and the toppings were thick. The buffalo sauce gave it a nice kick. The personal size was just right for me, as I likely couldn't eat another piece. I visited on a Friday night and the place was busy. My server was friendly and attentive but not overly attentive. The food came out surprisingly fast for that size crowd. Needed some grub after 10 hours in a car on our way up from FL. Walkable distance from our Hampton Inn hotel we wanted something warm and comforting. Parker took care of us and did a great job. Wifey and I each had a glass of J Lohr (ehh) but the real start were all the beers on tap (we ended up getting a local porter) Had the choppity chop salad, really enjoyed. Very mixed feelings about this place. Made 4 trips here recently. Each time there was issues with their taps. The first time they weren't working at all. Likewise the second time. The third time only a few were working and the ones that were working were warm. Purchased a flight and 2 of the 4 were warm. No mention of comping us for the flight. The last time same scenario; although we were able to find one that was cold. Why continue to go you might ask? Absolutely the best pizza in Columbia. We've had the Thai, Tuscan and the classic. We enjoyed this place but the pizza is more like a thick crust or Sicilian pie. Chicago style deep dish usually has the mozzarella or provolone under the sauce with a sprinkle of Parmesan on top. But this pizza was great, its easier to deal with and it's not as messy to eat, even my daughter loved it. read more

I've been to Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom multiple times now and I have very inconsistent experiences here. The food here is amazing, but there have been multiple occasions where my order is wrong and the service isn't consistent as there have been days where my service is decent, but other days aren't the best. I've spoken to the owner before about their online ordering service not working and during my conversation he did tell me they have been short staffed due to COVID, so I honestly think this is the main contributor to my experiences here. I don't really want to scare anyone away from here because I love the food here, I just can't vouch for their consistency in service. Last night was probably one of the days where my order was messed up the worst. I ordered a large pizza, one half Thai Pie, and the other half was supposed to half pepperoni, green olives, and no sauce. My server definitely got our order right so I believe the issue had to do with the kitchen. They messed up our pizza order initially, so they kindly gave us the incorrect pizza free of charge and went to remake our pizza order which I greatly appreciated. We asked for the correct pizza to go since we were eating the incorrect one while we waited. When we were finished up for the night, we got home and checked the pizza to see if it was correct and the order was still wrong. Instead of green olives and no sauce, there were green bell peppers and sauce. To me, I appreciate all pizza, but it was a little alarming to me that the order was incorrect two times in a row. Regardless, the both pizzas were still delicious! I want to shine a huge spotlight on the Thai Pie pizza though. This is one of the more unique pizzas I've had and it's delicious so I would definitely recommend trying this out. I've also tried the Thai Chili and Screaming Mango bone-in wings (which I also had an issue with an incorrect order, but they happily remade them) and both are definitely something you should try, although the Screaming Mango isn't the spiciest if that's what you're looking for, but the flavor is definitely there. My last recommendations have to be the Italian Nachos and Buffalo Roasted Cauliflower. The Italian Nachos are basically pizza toppings (cheese, pepperoni, jalapeño) on top of light, fresh nachos served with a bowl of pizza sauce to dip into. Their pizza sauce is so delicious and it's the perfect thing to accompany the nachos. I also tried the Roasted Cauliflower for the first time and I honestly didn't know what to expect, but buffalo sauce and cauliflower are a solid combo. Definitely interesting and worth giving a try. Overall, I would recommend trying out Old Chicago's food because their food always has the same, delicious quality. Just be wary that your service may not be consistent or the best depending on the day. Some servers are hit or miss, and your order may not always be correct. However, don't be afraid to speak up about your order because they always try to make it right. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by this location a rainy evening and it was a great experience anyways! We were quickly seated in a booth and our waiter came immediately to take our orders. I ordered the Cheese Only Personal Size Pizza and my boyfriend ordered the Double Decker Personal Size Pizza. As an appetizer we ordered the fried Mac and cheese bacon pieces. Everything was fantastic! I was skeptical about the fried Mac bites but once I had one, I was addicted. It's really good and crunchy on the outside. The pizzas were also a good size and we both got full after two slices of the Personal size. I'd definitely come back to try other things on the menu and would recommend. My husband and I are from the Midwest so when we got to Columbia and saw a Chicago style pizza place we were excited to give it a try. We ordered online. When we got to the restaurant to pick it up, I spoke with one of the waitresses and she went to look for the order. The other two hostesses that were at the front, asked me about 10 minutes in what I was waiting for. They were there when I arrived so I was confused. When we got the pizza, it was hot but it wasn't well done like my husband requested. The crust was barely cooked. Plus we ordered sausage and onion on the pizza and there was barely any toppings. I've had New York style pizza. I've had certified Neapolitan pizza. I've had more than enough personal pan pizzas growing up (thanks Book Club). What I have never tasted is a Chicago-style pizza. Until now. Of course you have to love the location from the start. Right on Gervais Street, you can't miss it. Walking in, I found abundant seating options (which I really like). You can grab a stool at the bar, a seat at a booth, or sit at a high table. TV's have sports readily available for you and the buzz of full house is all around. Though I only had a single beer that night, their options for drafts, bottles, and cocktails are extensive. The waitress even brought out a local stout for me to try since that's what I had ordered. I started out with the bratwurst bites (with beer cheddar for dipping). They have a half pound of brats in them! I made myself stop halfway through though so I would have room for the Thai pizza (Chicago style of course). Already starting to feel full, I thought I would only have one slice. I thought wrong. I have three fourths of that deliciousness before I tapped out. The teriyaki sauce, the perfect crisp of the vegetables, the subtle heat of the Thai all made for a pizza I will be ordering again when I return. We were greeted for a party of 7 and the table was ready in no time. Our waitress was great, took our drink orders and food order quickly. However, the time it took for our food to be ready was at least one hour. We had 4 pizzas ordered and other food cling kids meals. The pizza line was sooo backed up, we had to order an appetizer to curb the hunger of the kids. The restaurant was not even half way full. If the pizza line is that slow, take them off the menu. I'm all in the trying to beers so that was fun also although we had to use the Phone app and that all the beers were available. Anytime Im inColumbia, I always make it a point to visit Olld Chicago. I have always received excellent service, and had an excellent experience. Well today was definitely not the case. 1st, I ordered a layered snake bite (guineas and angry orchard). The bartender was unaware of how to make the drink (which is showcased on the menu), but he could make the drink because they were out of angry orchard. Next, I ordered a vodka Tonic only to find out they were out of Tonic. Furthermore, I ordered a pizza, which was flavorful, but it was not cut (see picture for details). The staff was amazing, as they conveyed their concerns with me. It's evident that there is a lack or leadership/management at this location. As I am completely disappointed with my visit, I really feel sorry for the staff, as they are struggling to keep customers happy. read more

We went here Saturday and ordered our usual, the Chicago seven individual pan style with a chop salad, no chicken. The pizza is always one of the best in town with a real nice crispy crust but still chewy on the inside. There's sausages great and the cheese and sauce are great. The only issue we have with the restaurant is that they've changed their chopped salad over the past year or so. Being from the Chicago area, where are used to see a chop salad that is really chopped. The lettuce is chop very finely along with everything else in the salad. Old Chicago used to do that but somewhere in the last year they stopped doing it and now the lettuce is shredded in smaller pieces, but still not chopped. The salad is still great with the house dressing, but there is a difference. I don't know why they went away from the true "chopped"salad but I wish they would bring it back. Another thing we really miss was the fried cheese curds they used to offer, which are now not on the menu. But it's still one of our top pizza places in town. read more

They have a small parking lot out at front and are located in the heart of Vista. I always get seated quickly and service is always top notch. They have big TVs everywhere and a large bar area as soon as you enter the restaurant. Food and Drink: I'm not a huge beer drinker so I ordered the snakebite, which is a combination of cider and beer in equal parts. It's a good choice if you like light or fruity beers. Also, it comes out looking really cool because it splits up into 3 different layers. For food, we ordered a large Italian Grinder Pizza with Mushrooms as our entree for the two of us. The pizza came out hot and fresh and very meaty and cheesy just the way I like it. It was a really decent sized pizza, we could only eat half of it and took the other half home. I like this Old Chicago compared to other bar restaurants because I'm a huge fan of their pizza and they're in a good location in Vista. It's easy to get dinner here and then walk to Marble Slab for dessert or go to different nearby bars. Also, they have a loyalty card called OC Rewards which is great because it likes you rake in points as you spend and they also e-mail me coupons or specials pretty regularly. read more

We were seated quickly then the wait began. Old Chicago is one of our absolute favorite late night spots in Columbia, you just can't beat the deals! Starting at 10pm you can grab $2 one topping pub pizzas (basically a personal pizza), and select $2 appetizers like onion rings. Kelsay and I normally get one pub pizza each and a large order of boneless wings (about 10). Our go to flavor is BBQ, but the sweet thai chili is amazing too! Service is always quick, and the food never disappoints. With the late night specials two can dine for about $20 or less! If you guys are into beer, try a create your own beer flight! You get to sample 4 4ox glasses of any of their craft or draft beers for about $6... you can't beat that! Loved this place. If you're in the mood for pizza, check this place out. They have many different pizzas to choose from, and tons of beer on tap. If you arrive after 10pm, you can get their $2 pub pizza. (1 topping included and $.50 for each additional topping) I love pizza and didn't think it would fill me up, but it did. I went there last night around 11 p.m. The restaurant was not packed at all and we were seated after waiting a few minutes for the hostess. Our waitress came over to get our order--two personal pan pizzas, brownie sundae (to be brought out after we finished our pizza), water, tea, and a cocktail. After she brought our water & tea, I waited for over 20 minutes before I received my cocktail. I had to tell her that I still didn't have it and she just said "ok," then proceeded to go to the bar and add it to the tab (saw her at the computer). She clearly never put the order in. We then waited another 30 minutes for pizza. It had been overcooked, but we were so hungry & aggravated at that point that we ate it anyway. I asked the waitress for napkins, as we had NONE, and waited for over 10 minutes before I had to ask her again! She walked past our table and to the kitchen several times, even wiped off the table in front of us...so it's not like she was just busy. She forgot about napkins that fast. At that point, we were ready to just leave. I asked to speak to a manager and I believe they sent one of the cooks to speak to us. I told him about our experience and he immediately gives excuses & doesn't seem to care at all. I made a remark about the pizza being overcooked and that some of the toppings were burnt and he says that he doesn't send out burnt food. He then tells me that the staff is young and still learning. He offered a discount and left. The waitress immediately shows up, drops off the check, never even added the brownie sundae to the ticket. I just couldn't believe how bad the service was.
