We had wrapped up a class in the area on a Friday at 6 p.m. and wanted to grab dinner in Fayetteville before heading home. We had eaten here before once or twice probably 5 years ago, but we wanted to check it out again. Parking is on-street nearby. There seemed to be plenty of spaces around the courthouse across the street. They normally have parking around back, but the lot is currently being used for construction staging. We were greeted as we entered and advised that we could sit anywhere. They were about 3/4 full, but we saw a table up front so we took that. Our server advised us that this would be where the live band would be setting up about 45 minutes to an hour later, and she asked if we'd mind being moved it our dinner overlapped with the band. We said no. There seemed to be a fair percentage of 'regulars' here, maybe for the music. They space is a standard bar arrangement. The bar takes up much of the right side, with tables down the center and booths along the left wall. The decor seemed to be seasonal, and had changed from Valentine's Day to Mardi Gras when we were there. They got our drink orders. My wife got a Po Boy (catfish). I opted for a burger. They offered fried okra as a side, which I recalled from the last time we ate here. I was glad that had not changed. The food was pretty good. The wine pour seemed small, though. We managed to finish before we got evicted from the table. Prices seemed average. If you are in the area, this place is worth stopping in. read more

I have driven past this place 2 billion times and have never stopped in. This rainy, Saturday night me & my date wandered in. There was a very small crowd enjoying the entertainment of a live band. We found a waitress (Liz) who gave us the lay of the land & pointed us to a table. We came for the food but ended up getting a whole experience. This place reminded me of that show Cheers. I felt like everyone knew everyone & we felt welcomed. The food was excellent. Boom, boom, pow shrimp appetizer was really good & so was my fish & chips. Went here for lunch with a small work group. The smell of bleach smacked you in the face as you entered the establishment. Several of us had issues into the night with symptoms of inhaling bleach fumes. Maybe they don't know there's a ratio of water/bleach when cleaning? The Caesar salads were awful. I have never had a salad with minced lettuce. There were a lot of what looked like store-bought croutons, but they had a slightly rancid taste like they were expired. The kicker was the bowl of chili that arrived with the lid to a can in it. The server made a little joke about it. No apologies offered. I'm not sure how this place is still open. read more

Walked here from hotel. Cute inside bar area and music playing. Our server was Christy- very patient and friendly. The blue cheese chips and fried pickles were tasty and we enjoyed. One of our group had the hot dog and said it was really good and the fries were really good. We also tried the Reuben. This was not my favorite- the corn beef was somewhat fatty. So I'm very picky on who I give five stars to but the tavern is legit, I ate here for months, sometimes multiple times a week, the presentation of the food was spectacular and I wish I had pictures to show it, the environment is very hole in the wall bar with the old locals and worn brick and old wooden bar but the food is nothing short of a restaurant you should need reservations for, the alcohol was always served right along with orders and I can not complain about anything with this place, waiters were perfect and always there if you needed something, if you're in Fayetteville, you MUST check out this place, it doesn't get the respect or recognition it deserves. Food arrived cold. The lettuce on the salad ($10) was wilted and not eatable, so we threw it away. The chicken on the chicken sandwich ($14) was so overcooked it was like a piece of solid rubber, and I ended up throwing it away. So that left 2 "loaded" baked potatoes which were very small and only included a couple of crumbles of bacon, a small amount of cheese (size of a quarter) and a small container of sour cream (each being $10). Also left on our order were 2 "large" (as ordered) sides of mashed potatoes that were a small circular container in the same footprint as a soda can, just not as tall (each side was $6). This was definitely not a meal worth $73, which was our total with Grubhub+. We won't be ordering from here again. read more

Let me tell you: this place saved the day! We were riding around trying to find a place that was serving hot food and drinks and we stumbled upon this place. I'm not gone lie: I didn't know how me and my friend would fit in at this business because we were the only black couple there, but as soon as we entered we were greeted by the owner/manager maybe and the beautiful bartender Allie. I instantly felt welcomed and she informed us because we came in 40 minutes prior to them closing that they were only serving wings and fries (which was up my ally) and we ordered a 20 piece with fries. The food arrived shortly after our drinks and man, it was hot and delicious! We were so quiet eating and drinking omg and they also have a sister restaurant/bar across the street which we will try this weekend. And to end the meal, she made a green tea drink which was great! We walked in about an Hour before close durning the live music night, we were very calm and walked in and sat at one of the booths. something I've done before, and the old lady, assuming she could have been the manger, was incredibly rude to us. She first looked us all up and down then shook her head at the cash register to her bartender. Her tone was condescending and rude to us. She first yelled at us the we better be 21 or we can leave, we are all 22- 25, then when my friend brought out her passport, as she is in town for work, she rudely asked 'is it valid' then proceeded to tell us all we can only have one drink each in a rude tone. When my friend said yes it is was a uncomfortable laugh she proceeded to yell at her "is that funny? I have one too! I go to France!" Like it is a flex or something. We proceeded to get up and leave and she yelled "Ha Ha Bye!!!" At us, clearly proud of her behavior. Truly a shame as the bar has been in Fayetteville for years and my family has gone on several occasions as I was born and raised here and the owner, bless his heart, is a friend of my moms. I really wanted to love, love, love this place, but sadly it fell short. My husband and I went for brunch on Saturday. The setting is lovely, quaint and inviting. We sat outside and they allowed us to bring our dog, which is always very nice. The hostess greeting us was friendly and seated us quickly, the service was excellent, but where the Old Courthouse Tavern fell short was on the food. My sandwich was decent, I had the Seaside Catch on focaccia (instead of hoagie/too much bread). the grouper was tasty and it was warm. The focaccia, however, was cold a bit stiff and dry (it was not the kind of sandwich you sink your teeth into). It really brought the sandwich experience down a few notches. I think they could put some butter on the bread and toast it on the flat top to warm it up and awaken the flavor. My husband and the other couple we sat with ordered the eggs Benedict. Sadly, this is where the brunch fell flat. By the time the eggs got to our table, the eggs, hollandaise sauce and everything underneath were cold. Cold eggs are the worst. My husband and friends ate theirs, but the overall feedback, when we got back in the car was that it was underwhelming and we probably will not do brunch again. The food had a institutional look to the plating, like the plates are sitting on a table and the food gets put on them and not much love to go with it. I guess the amount of food they prepare has to be pre-cooked, so the warming up of items is kind of lost. It just wasn't the kind of experience we were hoping for. Now, having said that, the restaurant is lovely. I think we will try it again and do a dinner next time. I am so happy to have a place like this out in Fayetteville. It is such a great bar. They consistently reinvent their drinks for the season and they always have something good up their sleeve. This is a true bar. The seating at the tables has always been a little tight but I guess it fits in with the tavern feel. When its warm out you can eat on a small back patio and they often have live music every time I have stopped in to pick up food for take out. So about the actual food. Their fries are the true thick steak fries. They are so yummy and fried to perfection. They also have sweet potato tots if that's what you prefer. Their fish and chips are good but even more basic on the menu they have a giant hot dog and fries. Its really good. I recommend ordering a side of Mac & Cheese to round out the order. So far I have not tried anything that I don't like. I can only say that one time I went and the Mac & Cheese tasted less fresh. Also...I think u can def take kids between 4-10 here during the day but prob leave them at home once it gets a little later.
