Surprising little place. We have tried different little southern cooking places in the area, but, in my humble opinion, I think this one is the best. It is a little place with tables that aren't level abd chairs different types of chairs, just what you would expect in a little country eating place. This did not effect the taste of the food though. It was very good. We had lunch yesterday and plan to go back for breakfast soon. Our waitress was nice and courteous. She was there to serve and all of our needs were met promptly. I would definitely recommend this place. Try it out for yourself. Unfortunately, no military discount though, but that will not stop me from going back. read more

Stopped in Saturday afternoon, service was fast and friendly, food was good. The mac'n cheese was a little short on the cheese but was still tasty. We got there and we were told to sit anywhere, which I thought was odd because they should be attempting to social distance. We chose a booth in an empty corner and asked if it could be cleaned because there were crumbs all over. We were told to sit somewhere else and the hostess kept pointing to tables right next to occupied tables. We cleaned the table ourselves. People were walking around freely without masks and NOT ONE person in the kitchen had a mask on. And other staff had their masks under their noses and chins. Then, a family of 4 came in... not one of them with a mask... and where did they choose to sit? Right next to us even though there was a 3rd empty booth right next to it that would have left space between us. We asked for our food to go... and I had to come back because they had forgotten items. I would have given them a 2, but the food was just meh. Our waitress was very nice. read more

Not one of my favorite experiences... I ordered salmon with eggs that came with cheese grits, biscuit, water, side of tomatoes and orange juice. He ordered western omelet with home fries, biscuit, water, and coffee. Well let's begin....the waitress was not pleasant, it took 10 minutes to get food -it was fresh and hot on the bright side. My salmon was more flour than any salmon and it was fried with corn meal. I asked for my eggs to be cooked light and they were hard. We only received one glass of water and the coffee was weak. Customer service was blah but maybe you have to be a regular-regulars received terrific service. The options for veggies was grande, which is a vegetarians dream. Unsure if cooked with/without meat. I should've gave them 2 stars for the tude and horrible service but like I said the food was cooked hot and fresh. read more

You know, there is something to be said for finding excellence in simplicity. I first visited M&F's when they were in Hapeville. I recently got a chance to have breakfast at the McDonough location and found the place is as good as it ever was. Staff was very friendly and attentive, but they know when to leave me (doing a breakfast meeting) alone, and when to check in. And the food is a simple exercise in doing good, old-fashioned, Southern-comfort-food with excellence. I mean, on the one hand, this is no-frills dining. The environs are simple. There are no linens. But on the other hand, the food is fantastic. Breakfast (for me) usually means eggs and a biscuit. The eggs were not overdone, and the biscuit was a good size--not to big and not too small. It crumbles a little, but that's because it's likely handmade, just like everything else that comes out of the kitchen. But the pancakes are huge. Portions on other things like the omelettes and the meat & three lunch things they do are going to make sure you go home happy and full. Folks in the kitchen clearly know what they're doing. Quite an experience in extremes. Starting with the best, service was friendly, facility is a little stark but clean and in good repair. The western omelet and grits were tasty and plentiful. The homemade sausage was flavorful and huge portion. Things started to go downhill from there. The biscuits were too moist, almost gooey, not flaky at all, doughy. The home fries looked deep fried but not crispy at all and unseasoned. The deal breaker and bad enough to scar the whole meal was the "gravy". No seasoning, library paste. Inedible. read more

Good breakfast with large proportions. This was ham and two hot cakes. Also entree with two eggs, grits and toast. The coffee is very nice too. Definite come back here for another breakfast delight. read more

So, I tried this place because I drove by it several times. Well, I should have kept going. My initial thought was this was a nice spacious restaurant. There wasn't many people in there. Our waitress, Ms. Rose was great. There was only two waitresses and they appeared to be busy. In passing while seated at the table I asked the other waitress about the Wi-Fi code she said she didn't know it and never broke stride. She kept walking towards the back of the restaurant. Rude. I came here for breakfast. I had the salmon biscuit, which was a salmon coquette with a biscuit. The croquette was filled with bread and it wasn't good at all. The home fries as fresh potatoes cut up and fried like french fries. They were decent. The prices are reasonable and I'm sure someone will enjoy the food and the service. My first visit here...Kinda disappointed , Menu doesn't reflect everything they offer. You'd think with the size of the building and the initial presentation there'd at least be a salad bar, especially with the prices. Atmosphere is very positive. Service is pleasant. This is one of my favorite restaurants for an old time, down home breakfast. Had breakfast there Mother's Day. Been there several times and food and service was always great. But Sunday's service was a little shoddy. The waitress just did not have it together. Waited too long for my order to be taken... too long for silverware (after food was served) and too long for coffee refills. And she seemed to be irritated when I'd remind her.... They were immediately served and I was at the dinner table waiting for a waiter to express a little hospitality. After waiting for so long, I left. I had no desire to eat or pay for the food. I don't normally do this about a place but we had the worst food and service today at a local restaurant. Husband and I went to Southern Cooking Restaurant on Industrial Blvd in McDonough after church about 12;35. We knew it would be busy but I like the vegetables. We were behind a family of 15 and was told to go ahead and seat ourself. Waitress took order for drinks and I ordered fried tomatoes. Waitress brought drinks and tomatoes and took our order for lunch. Other families came in, ate and left, including our preacher. We asked another waitress if she could check on our food. She never came back. Party of 15 ate and left. I asked a different waitress for the manager and was told they didn't have one. I said that explains the chaos. Waitress agreed. About 1:50 we got our food and it was wrong. Waitress said it took a while because the back lost our order. She also said that she didn't know why it got lost because it was placed when tomatoes were. We told her to just take the food back and give us the bill for tomatoes. She brought the bill and we went to pay. By now it is 2 and we still had to wait for someone to ring us up. A young man asked if we like our food and my husband said don't know, didn't eat, service was bad. Young man said "if you don't like it, don't come back". I said ok and i know how to use Facebook. He said "ok use Google too". I asked for his name, he said John. We will not go back! read more

I will not be returning to this restaurant. I was having lunch there with a friend and was given very bad service. It took forever to get our drinks and then we had to wave her down to come and take our order. I don't think she ever came back to refill any of our drinks during our lunch. I ordered the fried chicken and when it came out the chicken was bad. When I bit into the leg it was dark brown and had a terrible taste. I couldn't even pierce the thigh with my fork it was so over cooked. I pointed this out to our server and she informed me that there was nothing she could do about it. I asked for it to be removed from my bill. She told me to talk to the cashier and see what she could do. The cashier told me the owners would not allow her to make the discount. I told her I refused to pay for bad food. She finally called over a teenage girl, who I was told was the owners daughter and she authorized the cashier to take $2 off my bill. I was outraged! I paid my bill, but it will be the last time I step foot in there. I will also be telling others not to eat there as well. On top of that they charge you if you ask for a to-go box! Should have listened to the waiter when he said barbeque sandwich was not a "traditional" BBQ. It was a piece of grilled pork tenderloin chopped in half inch pieces and sauce poured over it. Meat was dry and the sauce was the only thing BBQ about it. read more

Thought I'd stop and try this place since it was new. To be honest, the restaurant is nice and clean as you'd expect of a place that hasn't been open long. The seating seemed really odd to me. Another reviewer said it made him for uncomfortable and I totally agree. As far as the food goes, it couldn't be any more bland. I heard several folks in my vicinity complaining to their waitress about the rock hard corn bread, and mine was the same. I got the fried chicken, which was decent but not great. We stopped for breakfast on our way to Florida. We were a little concerned at first because we were the only people in the restaurant at 7am on a Monday. The breakfast was delicious, however. Be sure to get the homemade sausage patties. I got an extra biscuit to go and took the second sausage patty with me as well - sausage biscuit for breakfast tomorrow! Will never eat here again. I ordered the Beef Bbq, and what I got was sliced up Roast with a crappy store bought BBQ sauce all over it. The Garden salad was iceberg lettuce and shredded cheese with minimal dressing. The waitress asked me about the food and I complained about the roast and sauce. She told the owner Frank and he said it was a roast with sauce and if I wanted Bbq then I should go next door to O.B.s BBQ. But clearly on the menu it says Bbq plate beef or pork. I was going to have my wedding rehearsal dinner here but that to Frank's attitude he will lose out on that business too. read more
