Went to division street location. Husband ordered just hashbrowns and a hamburger pattie. Burgers are precooked not fresh ground meat. Tasted it and it was cold like it was pulled out of the cooler and put on his plate. Was not warm at all. Waitress seemed annoyed that he didn't want to eat it. Won't be back. The food is always good. The workers are great but always seems to take really long to get orders/food served.

Recently we came here for brunch with family. The menu is lengthy and unique. We ordered an array of breakfast foods that showed up quickly and overflowing the plates. Both the jalapeño and basic goulash w/cheddar were good. The French toast was tasty and the classic eggs Benedict was perfect. The only slip up was the crepes. They are not like fresh ladled crepes, thin and slightly crispy at the edges. They are thick, slightly citrusy and mushy. Having grown up with a German /Finn grandmother my crepe expectation may be slightly above par but they're also easy to execute. My husband and I are HUGE brunch people so we decided to check this place out since it's always crowded when we drive by. It was a decent breakfast however, this is not your local mom and pop breakfast joint. It had an ihop vibe going on, which I should have picked up on from the menu. We both had the sample platter and were disappointed in several of our orders. Everything was overly sweet and tasted like it was from a factory. The crepes (stuffed with cream cheese) were topped with what looked like Day old strawberries and the buttermilk pancakes tasted like any old pancake. Finally had my first ever eggs Benedict! It's all about the sauce I'm always told by friends. Can make or break the dish. Well, my server was totally awesome when she said she will bring me some of the sauce to sample before I order the dish. She made this offer without hesitation when I asked her opinion if I should try my first ever Benedict or go with one of my usual same-old omelette dishes. She gets a huge two thumbs up from me for this. Well, I liked the sauce. Granted, I can't truuuuly compare it to others, but I have a couple times in the past sampled my friends' sauces before and they didn't amaze me, but this place I think has it down just right. Well enough that I went for it! So, if you've never had a Benedict before then go for it here. I really enjoyed my breakfast. Tons of bacon strips for bacon lovers. I ended up not eating two of mine. I ordered my sauce on the side simply because it's my personal preference to not have my meal drowning in sauce. Not cause I'm some kind of control freak about calories. Just a control freak about soggy vs. crispy and drenched vs. just right. The hash browns were crispy, but they did have a slightly diff taste to them which made them not my all time favorite. Still good, just a tad diff than the ones I'm in love with. Enjoyed eating breakfast here. My only con is the price tag. For me it's a little high for breakfast. Granted. I could've ordered the half, but that's not the kind of girl that I am. I looooove food and a half would've just not been enough so that I'd save myself $5. It's like go big or not at all! Normally my go-to breakfast place has been Mimi's (in CA) and this place most definitely compares. Just only improvement/bonus I'd love to see is if they would include coffee with the meal. For the price tag I think it's fair to make this request. The Hungarian goulashes on the menu. Just. Okay. I'll sorta let it go. Being Hungarian to see an egg scramble as "ghoulash" is quite mind boggling. Real Hungarian Gulyás is a beef and potato soup-stew. Not a breakfast. And most definitely no eggs. I'll put it in the "adorable bucket" that they did such a goofy twist. Perhaps there's a story behind it. Just be warned. We were recently introduced to this local favorite and soon wished we had known sooner! The breakfast options were so numerous and enticing it made choosing a challenge. We enjoyed Danish aebelskivers, Swedish crepes, Dutch Baby pancakes and Hungarian Goulash. Sevings were ample enough that we had leftover for later. Old European is a small regional chain. My friend chose it for breakfast after picking me up from the airport from a flight that arrived at 7:30am. I started with the Austrian coffee, which was unique and delicious. I am a sucker for regional coffees and haven't been to Austria so I wanted to try it. It was a strong, nicely flavored hot coffee with a lot of cinnamon. It was topped with whipped cream that was also enjoyed by my friend's toddler. We chose a sampler plate in order to try as many of the European carbs as possible. We got two types of the Danish aebelskivers (doughnuts), three with sausage, three with blueberry. We also got the German potato pancake with sausage and the crepe with lingon berries. All four of these items were extraordinary. The crepe was a step well above most crepes. The pancake was flavorful and the doughnuts were divine. The portions were huge and we had leftovers we enjoyed several other times. We also ordered the garden goulash, which turned out to be hashbrowns mixed with veggies and cheese. We weren't too impressed with this, but it had a healthy variety of fresh veggies including brocolli and zucchini, so it helped balance out our other order. This entree came with a choice of sides and we opted for fresh fruit, and got a generous bowl of melons, grapes, orange, and banana that were all good quality; again this helped us get more balance with our breakfast. Looking around, most other diners seemed to be eating the American entrees that looked like Denny's food. Personally, I thought the European pastries were their best items and that's what I would recommend, especially the aebelskivers. read more

This is by far my favorite place to go for breakfast in Spokane. I grew up in the area but moved to Seattle in High School and have been there ever since. You would think Seattle, being as large as it is, would have something at least comparable to this place but I have yet to find anything close. The Old European uses the original recipes for Æbelskivers which I personally always order with blueberries. It's the reason I always pop in when I'm in town and it's even been the reason I pop into town at all! Service is always amazing and the people here are ver friendly and polite. For awhile I thought it was a convenient place to take family members that prefer bland food, and fear everything that is actually really good. And it was until it wasn't. At some point while being a semi-regular who appreciated a way to dine with family members for breakfast... suddenly everything was too far past tolerable. The eggs went from being family member maid omelette, to made from a bag funky cafeteria taste. They went from passable to I will pass. The coffee on the same visit was not good either. Was it an off day? I do not believe so. The staff and service is just what you want. I respect them greatly. What I believe the problem is, is that "family" restaurants - in particular breakfast places - suffer the tolerance of their intolerant patronage. Basically the restaurant does its best to meet the people in the middle for a quality to price ratio. Sadly the nice folk that frequent such places have unrealistic expectations. This is tough because if you want superb service you have to do well by the staff, so it is not abnormal for staff to be better compensated at such a place. And so while the people are treated like royalty, they are intolerant of adjusting food prices. To add complication it is also normal to have more career people, and more owner-investors. So when you have droves of elderly people that prefer to order half meals under $10, well, you can see the problem. In small towns breakfast places struggle to keep $10 and below their price but it is utterly unrealistic. So raise the price is the obvious response... and then everyone will stop going. So if you realize that, you might have to try an alternative, like lowering the quality to save money. As far as I can tell quality adjustments work better, but have limits before rejection sets in. In this case I hit my limit, as did some family. I pitty anyone who loves operating a family breakfast place because in general you have the best customer love while you are in dire straits over exerting the monitary capability of the restaurant. It should not be a surprise that people like to be treated like their mere presence is so bountiful with reward that smiles are everywhere as the business affords this by heading towards bankruptcy. But this also means you have the worst customers, that see price changes or quality changes as acts of betrayal from greedy people that turned their back on their "support". Anyways, 1 star is as low as you can go, and it is used simply because I will not go to this restaurant and would no longer recommend it for anyone else. If I were trying to give advice on where to go for great service, I would give it another 3 stars. read more

I've been to the Old European in Pullman, and I actually liked the restaurant in Pullman a lot more than my experience at this one, mostly based on the food. Their food was okay, nothing to rave about. Apparently they aren't owned by the same folks but the owners are related. Aebelskivers - these babies were a bit undercooked so it gave a mushy, doughy texture once you bite into these cute little pancake balls.. They have so much potential to please, but they were also pretty bland. Dutch babies- I got the option with blueberries, blackberries and whip cream... Shoulda gone with my gut instinct and stuck with the traditional one with powdered sugar and lemon coz the juices from the warmed fruit and whip cream started pooling inside and made the Dutch baby really, really soggy. Not only that, the pancake itself was REALLY thick! Imagine eating a thick, soggy Dutch baby... Yea, no good. Goulash - Potatoes and other veggies scrambled in one, but mostly potatoes. Topped with cheese. My boyfriend took maybe 10 bites and still barely made a dent, so we took the rest home (see photo). fresh squeezed OJ: yes this lives up to standard, although we wished there was a bit of pulp. It woulda been great if there was a pulp option. The carafe was $10 so we went with that, since its easier to share and you get more bang for your buck, still that is some expensive OJ if you really think about it. Overall service was good, nice and friendly. It was a bit slow coming out on the food but they were considerably busy for a Wed morning, so pace was understandable. read more

On one of the busiest weekends of the year in Spokane, the Old European was in top form. When we entered the place things were clean, patrons were relaxed, the wait staff was happy and peaceful. Once seated our waitress was quick to the table, took our order and everything arrived hot, fast and tasty. Half orders were available and I could get both eggs Benedict and their yummy Banana French Toast. Price point was good and coffee was hot and fresh. Plus their OJ is fresh squeezed! I walked by the used Oranges and was bummed out that I didn't order it. This is worth stopping in for Breakfast. They are fast, clean and tasty! read more

Wow! Talk about yum-o! Great find on this place. We were passing through, after driving all night. We found this place open via good ol Yelp and what a find it twas' We had our dogs with us, so we ordered our food togo. We didn't get the full sit down experience, but let me tell you, the food did not disappoint. I ordered the Swedish crepes filled with sweet cream, topped Lingon Berry & fresh made whipped cream. They were amazing! Wow. So delish. My husband order 2 eggs over easy and biscuits & gravy. Also another win. The biscuits were thick fresh & fluffy. The gravy was perfect consistency, not too thick (like it had been over heated in a pan) & not too thin. The seasoning and flavor of the gravy was spot on. The eggs were cooked perft as well. They also have fresh squeezed OJ, which was SO good. It's always nice when a restaurant actually has fresh squeezed, when they advertise it. All in all this place was a total win! There were so many wonderful unique & appetizing things on their menu. We would most definitely return. read more
