It was not that busy this Saturday! Waited in line for maybe 5 minutes, and was able to get a seat outside. Ordered a latte special, the pistachio salted Carmel latte. I got it with oatmilk and it was delicious and perfectly sweet and flavorful! I also grabbed an almond croissant to save and it was good, although I wish there was more almond filling. For our mains we got the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs. They first brought out a smaller chicken and they told us they are going to return with the other piece of chicken and they ended up giving us a whole brand new fried steak which was huge! They didn't have to do that but that was amazing they did that for us. It was also so delicious! Loved the gravy and how crispy it was. My monte cristo sandwich was good, I enjoyed the sweet and savory mix of it and the fresh strawberry jam was delicious. I enjoyed the fries but wish they were a bit more crispy as they were kinda soggy. Ordered Classic Breakfast. The hash browns were supposed to be crispy. They weren't crispy and not hot all the way through. The bread offering did not include sourdough. The wheat bread was dry. The service was good. Did have to ask for butter and it wasn't delivered in a creamy condition but hard and cold which made it difficult to spread. What a discovery! We found Chaps when we dropped off my son at the airport and we looked for good places to have breakfast on Yelp. It's in an unlikely spot- off the highway between Spokane and Cheney, and a grocery store strip mall. Right next to Yokes, but with amazing hills behind it as a back drop. It's one of those places that you can tell is a fun place just by looking at it: courtyard with a fountain and fireplace, white lights outlining the cabin-in-woods type structure. It just makes you want to go inside. Luckily, this book is safe to judge by its cover! It looks equally cool inside. You order at the counter after waiting in a fairly long line. While in line, we were approached by a server who asked our party size and then told us our table number and pointed in the direction it would be. The person who takes your order asks for that number. There was a rack of scrumptious looking bread products behind the counter that was hard to take out eyes off of. Bummer that I'm watching my carbs. I had a delicious Garden Scramble and my wife Eggs Florentine. Also had a great London Fog to drink. The food was incredible. However standing in line for 40+ minutes just to order while there were 10 tables open is WILD. Why have servers if not to take orders as well? This place absolutely does not live up to the hype. While the main breakfast dish was actually great, the rest of the experience is a massive letdown. The Boston cream pie was incredibly dry and just crumbled apart. Worse than the food is the logistics: you have to stand in a fast-food-style line to order, then walk over to a coffee bar that is just a basic pump station. Paying premium sit-down restaurant prices for a self-serve setup and mediocre coffee isn't great. The good food simply cannot outweigh the experience. Save your time and ignore the hype read more

VERY DISAPPOINTING. Stopped in for breakfast today and both of us ordered bacon with our meal. We were asked how we wanted our bacon cooked and both said "chewy, not too well done". We received crunchy, burnt bacon and when we asked to have it replaced, got a PURELY B.S. excuse that the law didn't allow them to serve it any other way. TOTAL LIE. Clearly, they cooked a bunch earlier that they wanted to use up, and were TOO CHEAP to cook some fresh for their customers. BAD, BAD, BAD business decision. Cool place in Spokane. My In-Laws recommended it and they were on point. You order up at the counter and they adding you a table so your food can get to you. I was leaning a couple of different ways, but the Chicken Fried Steak was recommended and I was so glad I listened. Highly recommend going here for a good breakfast or brunch. The restaurant is so cute, they have a good seating area inside and outside - old farmhouse style in my opinion. You order at the counter, and then they assign you a spot. The veggie omelet with egg whites was very good, along with the classic with bacon. Went here with friends this morning! We ordered the chicken fried steak, garden scramble, French toast, biscuits and gravy, vanilla latte and hot chocolate. I loved my hot chocolate with almond milk it was probably the best I've had. Great coffee and dinks. We all enjoyed our food, especially the cinnamon roll warmed up. 2025 Update: Disappointed Return to a Long-Time Favorite Ten years ago, this spot was one of my favorites in Spokane; a reliable go-to where the food was good and the vibe was easygoing. Now that I'm back living in Spokane, I was excited to bring friends here to share that same experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered today left a sour impression, and it centered not on the food. But on the attitude of ONE staff, particularly the main floor "server" in a maroon t-shirt. We were a party of 10; four adults and six minors, three of whom are under 8, the youngest only 3. My wife and I arrived first with our two girls. For context, every time I've visited this place in the past, I usually take a seat at an open table first because of a back injury, while my wife stands in line to order and informs the staff where we're seated. Today, I did the same: I pushed together two empty (half booth) tables to accommodate our full group and so my kids could sit down, while my wife was in line. That's when the server in the maroon t-shirt approached and said bluntly: Her: "Did anyone sit you?" Me: "No, I've never been seated here any of the times I've come." Her: "You need to wait in line, and we'll tell you where to sit." Me: "Okay, we have a party of 10 and these tables were open..." Her: "If this were a busy day, that would be unacceptable." [Walks away.] I went back to the table and sat down with my kids. She returned with water, and I asked if they had a gluten-free menu. Her flat response? "No." I looked over at my wife, who was in line, and just said, "They don't". Then something odd happened: she walked over to my wife (still waiting in line) and explained the gluten-free options in detail. The request wasn't even for her (my wife); it was for two of the children in our party who require gluten-free meals and their dad, who is doing it as a support for them. I had asked so I could text their parents the options before they walked in (and I was just giving my wife a heads-up). Moments later, a white party of three (elderly folks) walked in and sat at a table next to me, without ordering or "being seated". They weren't told to wait in line. Instead, that same server handed them menus. Final Thoughts: - If you're going to enforce a seating policy, enforce it consistently. - If you're going to represent the restaurant as the face guests interact with, do it with kindness, again consistently. - Greet people walking in and be ready to explain your seating policy, IF that's so important to you! - Have some grace for those with injuries or families with kids instead of just saying "Go wait in line". Give them seating options or allow them to sit at a table to wait. The vibe she projected today was uncomfortable and unfortunate. You care more about your ego and "authority". I took the day off so I could bring a family over to Chaps before leaving town and drop a couple of hundred dollars for Brunch. That lady never came back to our table to check in, but I did notice that she was only checking in with the elderly folks (party of 3) next to us. If the Maroon Shirt lady was a shift supervisor or manager, shame on you. Your leadership style will ruin what we all know and used to love about Chaps! Maybe it's time to look for a new regular brunch spot (Bruncheonette). read more

They messed up our food, didn't apologize and we had to ask to have it corrected. The ordering system is super strange - with the waiting in line, then ordering, then splitting the check - only to have them completely mess it up anyway and manage to type it in incorrectly while we're standing right there. They also lost one of the checks and made us sign it again. Server never checked back on the food, refilled our water or offered us additional beverages. Worst brunch in Spokane. Really unfortunate to have to be making this review today given that we've loved Chaps in the past and have frequently brought our out-of-town friends and family here for brunch; however, today's mishap has caused us to add Chaps to our personal blacklist. Had walked in and was greeted by just one person out front in a white top. Proceeded to the registers to wait to be seated. A man with ear gauges walks up, looks right at us, sighs, and then proceeds to tend to the register, saying absolutely nothing to us. Then another female server with black hair walks up to the second register and same thing - absolutely zero acknowledgment of our existence. We sat there uncomfortably for about 1.5 minutes until we finally said to each other, "let's go somewhere else," and still no response from the servers. Such a cute little place that is known for breakfast but I went for restaurant week and would say they do amazing with dinner as well. I had the Wellington and it was cooked perfectly. My server made sure we were able to get the dessert we wanted as they started to run low which is excellent service. Went there on a weekday morning. The place was not packed at all and their pastry options were very minimal. I ordered a slice of banana bread and brownie. A Mediterranean salad with extra chicken and two mozzarella tomato croissant sandwiches. And another side of chicken. I had requested balsamic and olive oil on the side for my Mediterranean salad since they did not offer the correct dressing for a Mediterranean salad. Several minutes later a server who works there approaches me and says, "I'm sorry our kitchen does not have balsamic vinegar nor do we have olive oil". I looked behind her and all I could see were two huge bottles of olive oil (see photos I have attached). I told her that I would just have my salad plain, and I would go next-door and buy dressing at Yokes. As I continue to wait, I proceeded to nibble on my banana bread and brownie, which were both cold and still thawing. I believe I must've waited 20 minutes for my meal. If I recall correctly, the meal was around 80 bucks. I'm not sure if that included tip or not. When the food arrived, I made sure that I looked through every box to make sure that my order was all there. I noticed that, even though it was a to-go order, even though I paid 15% tip, there were no napkins, condiments or utensils. I did, however notice that the croissant sandwiches had balsamic vinegar in them There was a young woman manager-type running around, and I kindly asked her for some ketchup to go. After waiting patiently for a few more minutes, she came back with one little ramekin. I quickly informed her that this wasn't enough I had two orders that came with an offensive amount of curly fries. This manager literally rolls her eyes and goes back into the kitchen and brings back the big bottle of ketchup and says you know, this will just be easier, you can just pour the ketchup directly on the fries. This is when I lost my cool. I told her that that would not work because I had to travel with this food and by the time I got to my destination, each order would be soggy and just a big mess. I asked her again if she wouldn't mind filling up a few more ramekins. She rolled her eyes again and this time she left for a long time. I couldn't wait any longer so I just left. Without the Ketchup. I've been coming to this place for a few years and I just feel like every time I come here it gets worse and worse. You can tell the people that run this restaurant are not passionate and don't like the customers. The chefs are definitely not passionate. I feel like they just throw food on the plate and call it a day. They also don't care about providing great customer service. And even though it's supposed to be a bakery of some sort, the croissants that our sandwiches came in were definitely from Costco. Unfortunately, I will never be coming here again. I think the Monte Cristo came with marionberry jam and turkey, which was unexpected but still tasted nice. The portion size was crazy! I had leftovers for dinner. Only downside to this amazing place is they are the most unorganized in terms of ordering placing your order and then getting a table. Most of the time they only have one cashier and the line literally wraps around to the patio door. Staff is friendly just not that efficient. Chaps restaurant in South Spokane has a good reputation for having fresh food and a shabby chic ambience. The two times I've gone here in a large group, we had terrible experiences. Their policy to order is to get in line & order at a register (cafeteria style) before they seat you. No big deal unless you are in a big group and someone is running late. They will ask you to get out of line and you cannot order food if even one person is missing from your group... And......they don't do reservations. When 7 out of 8 of our group had arrived, we decided to order, but Chaps staff was not happy with us. Mind you, the restaurant was NOT busy. Plenty of open tables. As we each ordered our meals, we realized that the bill was hefty. The first girl in our group asked why it was so expensive and they said they add 18% gratuity for any parties of 8 or more. Two of the women in our group decided not to order food, but the other 6 of us had to pay automatic gratuity for "future service." Furthermore, we were there for 2 hours, and staff never came by to clear plates or refill drinks. They literally avoided our group after they dropped off meals. I am appalled at how rude the staff was. This is not good business practice. Our networking group of professionals likes to support small, local businesses; but we will not go back to Chaps. read more

CLUB SANDWICH: Huge portion as well! I could never finish this, but enjoy sharing this with someone. Comes with 3 slices of bread (one in the middle).
