I've always loved this place. Yelp recommended that I do a review but I thought I already did. Anyways, I'll put another one if I didn't. Back in February I was pregnant and sitting at the table with my fiancé. The owner, who didn't even say she was until I asked, came to our table to see how everything was tasting. I was shocked. She was so sweet and didn't seem rushed at all. She told us that if we came back when our girl was born she would pay for our meal. She gave us a card which I lost. But that's not why I'm writing this. Overall the food is amazing. I love their crepes and lattes. We went after COVID shut down and thankfully they were open. Everyone was wearing masks and each table has a new clear protective thing protecting you from others. I just love this place. Im from Los Angeles and I used to work at the kettle in Manhattan beach. My manager, Jeff, would do exactly what this owner did- greet customers while asking how their meal was. I always appreciated that personal touch of hospitality. It was nice to see in a restaurant here- in my new home. I actually contemplated becoming a server for them because everything looked so smoothly ran. It's pretty hard to screw up breakfast, but they seem to have done it all three times we have visited. Now I'll admit that part of my bias against them was that I spent 3 months out of the year living in Europe during my adolescent years. So I was expecting traditional European breakfasts boy was I wrong. Pancakes are American, the German potato pancakes were okay, but nothing to write home about. The Aebelskivers were plain, greasy and rather disappointing, while the Belgian waffles tasted like a mix. The eggs benedict was horrific, the hollandaise, canned or mixed was disappointing but the fact that they smothered the eggs in it was unappetizing, the breakfast potatoes (aka hash browns) were limp and tasteless. The Monte Cristo sandwich was average (you can make a better one at home very easily), the homemade soup on one trip was flavorless and on the next overly salty (way too much base) To top this all off they are incredibly expensive for a breakfast house. Remember folks breakfast has the lowest food cost of any meal and the prices they charge for the second-rate food they serve is insulting. Are they busy? Yup!!!!!! Historically, Spokane has been known for the wealth of choices when it comes to eating out--but lately the choices are going down hill and Old European is no exception. I can only chalk up the good reviews of this place from those who have no pallet and no appreciation of HOME COOKED, UNPROCESSED food. Having read the reviews before going to Old European, I was excited to eat there. I am a glutton for griddle goodies. Enter: Great host--he sat us quickly. Sitting: 10 minutes goes by without coffee service. RULE OF THUMB SERVERS: Get your peeps coffee--so to at least placate them! Several couples were seated AFTER us and received quick service. Server: Comes and asks if we want something to drink. Yes and we're ready to order. Server unseen until our food comes out (read: I had to go up to another server and ask for a carafe of their water downed Cravens coffee). Food Comes Out: YUCK. The goulash my husband ordered was something my toddler could have prepared. Obviously, the potatoes and the green dots being passed off as peppers, were previously frozen and not cooked all the way. The cheese tasted like velveeta and the waffle was soggy. I ordered the stuffed french toast (scrambled eggs with chopped bacon). The french toast was good. But the bacon was clearly your run of the mill hormel bacon (McDonalds type bacon). I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I wanted to check out the Old European in Spokane since I have such fond memories of the one in Pullman, which is the only Old Euro I had ever been to before. I didn't actually go to WSU, but one of my best friends did, and we would always make a point to go there for a hangover cure on the weekends I would visit. Accordingly, I was expecting something similar to the Pullman experience: long wait to get a table, similar menu, and slightly dilapidated interior (in a good way! The slightly run down interior gives the Pullman location it's charm). The Spokane Old Euro is NOT like the Pullman Old Euro. It's different in several ways. Rather than a charming country diner, it's more similar to an IHOP. That being said, it's still a decent, serviceable restaurant with most of the menu items intact and friendly service. It's about a 15 minute drive North of downtown in a little strip mall parking lot off of Division. It's easy to access and parking is a piece of cake. The menu has pictures of the food and there isn't a wait to speak of. They had several tables open for Saturday brunch at about noon. It's very user friendly! I ordered the stuffed french toast, which I remembered from the Pullman location to be filled with whipped cream and bananas, but I probably should have read their menu a little closer because this stuffed french toast was stuffed with a bacon and eggs scramble instead. It was very good and I enjoyed the dish overall, but I was craving something sweet and not savory. I was still under the false impression that this would have the exact same menu as the Pullman location. My fault. Luckily, it was a tasty error! They do have the Aebleskivers and the Goulash, but make sure you read the menu closely or you may get something you weren't expecting. Don't make the same mistake I did! One thing that absolutely stands out about this place is how quick and friendly the service is. Our server was on top of bringing us everything we needed and refilling our water frequently. Normally, diners aren't renowned for their great waitstaff, but our waiter did an excellent job. This is a great place for breakfast when you're hungry for something different and don't feel like going to bland chain coffee shops. If you go, the abelskeivers are an absolute must. I'm still torn between the ones with meat and cheese and the fruit filled ones. So if unsure, order the sampler. I ad an omelet with bacon, Swiss, spinach and avocado. The avocado was a bit overripe which shouldn't happen because it's just too easy to get avocados these days. However, the omelet was great and it, along with the other dishes came out really fast. We were served in under 10 minutes, everything was hot and this place was really busy. Get there early on Sunday because it's a real hit with the after church crowd. So we would go in there every time we came from Seattle to visit. For the passed 3+ years it has been great! This time today it was a drastic change. It's as if they were trying to cut on costs, which you could really tell. I ordered a Greek omelet with sausage ableskivers and an orange juice. My boyfriend ordered a chicken fried steak with strawberry crepes and milk. So here the break down: For my meal, the first thing I noticed on my greek omelet was the lack of feta cheese, and abundance of pesto. I thought maybe there was more feta inside the omelet. I cut into the omelet and there wasn't any feta. Just a crumble on the top. The second issue I had with the omelet was the pesto sauce. Had I ordered sun-dried tomato, spinach, and pesto it wouldn't have been too bad. The taste of the pesto wasn't the issue, but the fact that it was on there was. Lastly, the omelet wasn't too full with spinach and tomatoes. It was mostly egg with minimal amount of ingredients. A suggestion for the Greek omelet would be to add tzatziki sauce instead of pesto sauce. The pesto seemed reaching to add flavor to a minimal amount of ingredients within the omelet. For my abelskivers, they are usual really great. However, this time they were undercooked and had less sausage than usual. For my boyfriends meal: he had an obvious frozen chicken steak instead of the previously hand breaded chicken. The frozen steak was deep-fried instead of fried in a pan. The gravy was old and either heated and reheated or just sitting at temperature for awhile. The milk was great and you can't beat the fresh squeezed orange juice. The service was on par for the food quality. Not too friendly. It's unfortunate because we loved this place, however the standards have gone down. This place is a must stop for breakfast whenever we're in Spokane. It can get really busy on the weekends, so expect a 20-30 minute wait. A few years ago they moved to this location, and while it's much larger and brighter, the decor is still bland. Our waitress was quick to take our drink orders (the orange juice is freshly squeezed on site). Service has always been efficient and friendly. I usually order the the sampler plate with Swedish crepes, Danish aebelskivers, pancakes and a potato pancake. The crepes are so-so, the aebelskivers are delicious, the pancakes are just right, and the potato pancakes have pieces of ham in them. Yum. My husband often gets the Hungarian goulash, a combination of eggs, potatoes, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, sausage or ham, cheese, etc. It also comes with pancakes or aebelskivers (get the aebelskivers). It's a huge plateful and enough to share for lunch the next day. (If you're not familiar with aebelskivers, they are pancake balls, shaped like donut holes. In season, they come filled with huckleberries.) Great place for breakfast, just so-so for lunch. We recommend the goulash, aebelskivers and orange juice. read more

This rating is for the restaurant on division. Wonderful most all of the time! Once in a while the dutch baby is underdone depending on the cook, but I'm still giving it a 5 star review.
