    Dave's roasted chicken

Came here on a summer Saturday night for dinner with a party of 4, no reservations, but surprisingly had no issue of getting a table right as we came in. We had a table near the bar and the ambiance is very pretty, but can be a little dark. Noise level was perfect, could easily talk to everyone without feeling like I was hard of hearing. Service was kind and helpful, but it certainly felt slow. I would have ordered more drinks if they just had come around and checked in on us a touch more frequently! Although it did seem like they might have been down some staff that night, so I don't fully ding them for that. The most convenient parking is the paid lot right in front, but there is some street parking further away if you're willing to walk a little. The real reason you're here though is the food and drinks! Starting with cocktails, I tried their mezcal version of an espresso martini, 43 Espressions, it's a little bolder than your typical espresso martini, but that's what I also like about it more. Also tried the Lavender Fields, which is a delightfully fresh summer/spring cocktail that is very easily sippable. For a quick appetizer I tried the French onion soup, as classic as it ever has been. When you have found perfection, there is no need to try and reinvent it, and luckily they don't! On to the mains. I had Dave's Roasted Chicken. Perfectly cooked and the sides of paella rice and asparagus make an excellent pairing, serving size is the right amount to fill you up. Also tried their tagliatelle with red pepper romesco and skirt steak, which was fresh and not an overwhelming pasta portion like I'm typically used to from any Italian place. Even in spite of the less than stellar service time, I'd love to comeback here and try out more of the menu, especially some of their steak options and get a chance to try out the dessert menu too!

Absolute deliciousness! Everything from the Old Fashioned, to the Burrata to the Skirt Steak. Come hungry and you won't leave disappointed. My family and I enjoyed this meal!

Had an awesome experience at Old Fields. The ambience is rustic yet modern, dim lighting makes it a cozy spot. For appetizers we got the buttermilk friend calamari that was well seasoned and perfectly crispy. It came with both marinara sauce and aioli. The French onion soup was very flavorful and had a really good tasting piece of bread inside. Entrees were 7oz filet mignon with crispy onions and blue cheese added on top. Had the filet with mashed potatoes. The toppings were definitely worth it! Mashed potatoes had the good homemade taste and texture. Next was the marinated skirt steak with sautéed onions on top. The marinate was great Substituted truffle fries instead of mashed potatoes and the fries were thin, crispy and flavorful. Got sides of broccolini and creamed spinach. Broccolini needed a bit of salt or something, creamed spinach was a bit too salty but overall still good. The cheesecake for dessert was a generous portion. Loved the graham cracker crust and strawberry flavor accent. Server was nice and prompt but also did not rush us Will be back!

I went here one night with a few friends and had an exceptional experience. We shared many types of oysters and they were phenomenal and cold. We then moved on to share a steak, which was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful flavor. Overall the service was wonderful and the staff was friendly. It was expensive but worth the price because the food and service matched the cost.

We've been going to Old Fields for years. The food, service and ambience are always good! It's the price $$$$ that really keeps us from coming back more frequently. But our visit on this night was for our anniversary so it got the green light for our special day. Before even looking at the entrees, my eyes immediately found the creme brûlée. From that moment, I knew I would enjoy my evening even more and I did! Our waiter was friendly and attentive. And I somehow neglected to take a photo of the Lychee Martini that my husband ordered. I'm especially sad I missed this photo op because he actually thought it was more delicious than his seafood paella dinner entree. And while my Berkshire pork chops was delicious, the creme brûlée was my favorite part of the meal. It was one of the best I've had and I've had a lot! LOL! And while our entrees were indeed good, the supporting drinks & desserts actually stole the show for this special night out.

Great dinner! Service was great. Loved the espresso martini with Baileys. GF calamari was really good as well as their steaks!

Always a good meal and experience here. The outdoor seating is so charming and cozy. The fried calamari is some of the best in the area.

Limited beer selection would be the only thing I would change but you can find something that works. Wine selection is decent. We had the Mussels in a wine sauce which were very good, the oysters Rockefeller which were the best I've ever had, including when I make them, the fish and chips which were outstanding and the brussels sprouts which were also very good. Reservation was easy to make on Resy. We arrived a bit early and they took us in no problem. We've tried a number of places in PJ and we've really enjoyed most of them but I think we're going to be regulars at Castaways. It was really tremendous!

The restaurant was packed, but people were also finishing up their meals so we gave it a shot. We were able to sit outside and the outside dining area was set up really nice and comfortable with bistro lighting and even some potted palm trees. Felt more like San Diego than Port Jefferson. Inside was also tastefully done up in the nautical theme which is good to know if it's a rainy day or in the colder weather. I've read some reviews about the service and we had the exact opposite with super attentive service. Our server, Brianna came over right away and took our order in no time. I mentioned doing a dish gluten free and she asked if I had celiac. She went above and beyond making sure that my meal would be safe to eat and offered substitutions so there would be no cross contamination. I've had the condition for 18 years so I know pretty well what I can tolerate and that most places let you down and I just deal with it. That wasn't the case at all here and Brianna made sure of it. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip and this was one of the best versions I ever had. Like in the top 3 really and one the other two was home made. It was that good. I had plenty of carrots and celery to nosh on with the dip and they kept the bread on a separate plate altogether. Like I said, they really understood my condition I also had bariatric surgery back in the winter and I'm slowly venturing out in the world of solid food. So I picked the surf and turf steak and lobster sandwich. I figured I know I can handle steak if done right and I wouldn't be too bummed if I couldn't tolerate the lobster. Brianna had it served to me on a really good gluten free bun. This sandwich really worked out so much better than I thought it would. The steak was exactly to order and the lobster was super tender. I was only able to have maybe a fifth to a quarter of it. That's equally because that's all I can physically have these days and because the sandwich was beyond huge. The rest of the family's choices were home runs too and included a killer wedge salad, a perfectly cooked burger and salmon. Those were devoured so no complaints with those as well. It should be noted by the reactions by everyone at the adjacent tables were having a very similar experience and it was just a really enjoyable time. Our family is getting older (aren't we all), so diners and moments like this are so special. Castaways definitely held up its end of the bargain. I'm so glad we stopped in, and I can't wait to stop back the next time we're down port.

*January 2026 Restaurant Week*…read more My wife's bestie made plans for the (4) of us to meet for dinner. We all live close so Fifth Season Restaurant was chosen. I haven't been here in a very long time so I'm excited to see how the restaurant has stayed in business over the years. We are shown to our table upstairs. The bar area on a Friday night looks fun and active. There's great views of Port Jefferson harbor so the restaurant ambiance is nice. We're seated and are given restaurant week menus as well as the wine/cocktail list. Listen, It's Friday nite and I don't want a wine cooler! Give to me a standard Martini stirred (Shaken is just dumb) with stuffed blue cheese olives. The ladies order appletini's and we're ready to order off the restaurant week menu. The menu has a nice selection of different offerings, I'm into all things local so I'm going to start with the beet salad and Red Snapper. The beet salad was loaded with beets! I love beets, they did a good job with this started dish. I must point out, the dish must have been prepped earlier in the day. The green salad was slighty wilted when served to me. The Red Snapper, what is that sauce on top? And the fish was sitting on a bunch of zoodles?? The fish wasn't seasoned, it wasn't very flavorful. I'm eating around the zoodles, meh. The cheesecake I ordered, it was also just a standard dessert. I didn't finish the fish or my dessert. Review is over, Fifth Season Restaurant? See you in another 5 years.

The salads we felt were small for the price but were tasty. The main course was delicious and a nice portion. However the small portions continued when we moved over to dessert, which was very overpriced for what you got. The service was also kind of slow. I think they need more wait staff.
