Try the Spicy margarita! The outside dining is a bit for us but we like chatting it up with Nick and Gina. Food is great. The management staff take an interest in the customers. I came here on a recommendation from a coworker. When I walked in, I noticed that the restaurant had a nice rustic decor to it. Being set in a slightly musty old house it was a nice quaint setting to have dinner. The food was good but not great. I ordered the Gravy Davey I believe it was called, which is a burger between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. It was a very messy burger but it was above average. To pair, it had crispy beer battered wedge cut fries. It was a good value for $15.95 before tax. Although I did not sample, they had a number of craft cocktails that sounded delicious, although a $10 cocktail is too expensive for my blood. I will definitely return when in the area again, but would give another dish a try. read more

I went to Old Fields this week for a friend's birthday dinner. After hearing such great things I was really excited to try this place and it did not disappoint! The restaurant itself is tucked away in a cute corner and inside the warm furniture and soft lighting make for a really cozy ambiance. Our server, Kathy, was absolutely fantastic. Not only was she so warm and friendly, she took the time to understand our tastes and recommend menu items that would make our taste buds sing. There are so many ways to customize and combine menu items - who knew! We got a few apps but my favorite one was the zucchini chips, which came with the most amazing pesto dip. I was nearly full by the time dinner came around, but my short rib was perfectly tender and very flavorful. Combined with the polenta, it made for the best comfort food on a rainy night. Kathy helped us choose a dessert board for the table and the crowd favorite was the s'mores sundae, hands down! I had cabernet to drink but I can't wait to go back and try some of the fun cocktails that were on the menu. And I certainly hope we get Kathy - she is an absolute gem and made our evening such a pleasure! read more

Stopped in for a snack. Ordered an old fashion /bullet . Muddled to oerfection . Dozen shrimp cocktail on ice ,home made cocktail sauce , very nice. Ahi Tuna rare. Done right .... I have been going to Old Field for years now, but for some reason haven't Yelped them. I find this place to be consistently good, but tend to sometimes indirectly avoid it because of the lack of parking in Port Jefferson. The last time I have dined here was before Covid. We did score what I like to call "Rock Star Parking" this time and arrived slightly earlier than expected. We made reservations on Resy, but were lucky to be seated about 45 minutes earlier. They have a huge outdoor tent in front of the restaurant. Plenty of tables outside frees up the inside for patrons. My husband and I started with a drink before our friends arrived. We had a Cucumber Collins and a Sazarac. Both drinks were delish. The Cucumber Collins was very refreshing. Some other drinks that night were the Slanted & Enchanted, Mezcalita and a Manhattan. We started with some apps. We chose the Crab Piquillo Peppers, Burrata Flatbread and Glazed Chicken Skewers. All were very good, but enjoyed the peppers and Burrata the most. Dinner consisted of braised short rib risotto, fish and chips, seared crab cake sandwich and the old field's burger. My crab cake sandwich was ALL crab and soooo delicately delicious. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals and no to go boxes needed, we ate it all.. It's always a great time at Old Fields. You never feel rushed, the staff is accommodating and attentive, the atmosphere is very chill and relaxed, and if you have time, a stroll around Port Jefferson is always a bonus. read more

Old Fields is one of the best all-American restaurants in the country, period. This place is a hidden gem in Port Jeff. It's not on the main road and is sort of tucked away behind the buildings, next to a spa. The food is sensationally good. My favorite go-to is the 56 burger, marinated with their '56 sauce, the most flavorful beef patty you'll ever taste. Served with a side of the crispiest fries (out of the 10 times I've ordered, all 10 orders were crispy, never soggy). AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, get the side of TRUFFLE AIOLI SAUCE. Got that? Make sure you get it. The best dipping sauce EVER - garlicky, truffly, creamy - sweet Jesus. The other items on the menu are just as delish. The duck french dip... mmmm the au jus, the bougie high-end mac and cheese made with gruyere and cheddar cheese, short rib risotto....This place takes regular food and transforms them into jewels, delicious juicy jewels. Although we live locally, we have never been to Old Field's Restaurant since it opened it's doors in Port Jefferson. What a great first! We wound up there after taking a stroll through Port Jeff the other night. We inadvertently walked in the wrong back door where they graciously lead us to the front. We had a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. My Margarita was delicious and refreshing while hubby enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The ambiance is rustic and cozy without being as stuffy as it was when it was occupied by Pace's Steakhouse. We were seated at a table near the fireplace. Erin, our Server, was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the menu. We started off with delicious, crispy Calamari with a couple of dipping sauces. My husband and I tend to use Calamari as a way of measuring the caliber of a restaurant. This definitely made the cut! I would just like the option of a slightly spicier sauce on the side. Hubby had Fish And Chips and I had a fish dish (a white fish, mild flavor, I had never heard of it, nor do I recall the name). The fish was tastefully prepared with chick peas, cucumber, which gave it kind of a Mediterranean flavor. Very nice. Great meal, coupled with nice ambiance! We will definitely return. read more

Food/service always very good, along with the ambience but, had a slightly unsettling experience last week. Seated at a table in the bar area with a friend in the early evening. There were perhaps six people at the bar, and we were the only ones seated at a table.The bartender is an extremely nice guy but, apparently he was entertaining a few of his friends at the bar. Someone plugged their Iphone into the sound system and began playing music way too loud, including the same Fleetwood Mac tune 3 times in a row. While not particularly bothersome to me, my friend, an older woman recovering from a severe head injury, was not at all happy. As in many other establishments, there should be a policy regarding house/background music set by management, as "guest DJs" at the bar may work for late-night but not for the "dinner hour." read more

Walking around Port Jeff, wanted to grab some drinks and dessert after dinner. Stopped into this spot, and was glad we did. Beautiful inside! Greeted at the door with a smiling face, and they were super cool about seating us for just drinks and dessert. The service was great, the drinks were perfect and the desserts were incredible. We ordered the sugar pie, the brownie sundae and the peach cobbler and shared them all. Each of them were five star. We left a very nice tip for their accommodation and hospitality and had a wonderful experience. I'll definitely be back for dinner the next time I'm in town. read more

I had dinner with a couple of friends on Saturday 7/31. It was a wonderful experience, the food was great and the staff was beyond pleasant. It was a beautiful night in PJ so we sat outside and was immediately greeted by our waiter. I believe his name was Anthony. He was pleasant and professional and always checking on us. Alexa, a hostess at Old Fields, was joking with us as she overheard us ask " Alexa", the search app a question. Also, 2 other people stopped at our table to make sure everything was ok. Our experience at Old Fields was amazing. We went as a group of 6 for dinner to celebrate a friends birthday. Alexa was very friendly as she greeted us. She also made sure people in our group with allergies had something on the menu that they could eat. Our server Kathy was excellent. She was happy and explained things on the menu. She also checked back frequently to make sure our drinks were full and we had everything we needed. Lastly, Fab was fabulous. he delivered our drinks and had a great sense of humor. This was a great brunch spot. We went around 11 on mother's day. I don't think the place is normally open that early but had a mother's day special so they were open. Everything was delicious, except the crab cake Benedict. Crab cakes were very fishy, which really ruined the whole plate, unfortunately. Bread pudding French toast was GREAT! And so was the steak and eggs. Pancake was good too, more of a crepe then a pancake. Decent portion sizes as well. Friendly staff, good wait service. Very nice inside, roomy tables, even for the 6 of us at one table. Mimosas were good too. Price was overall a hair or two above average, nothing crazy. Would recommend and return. read more

My husband & I went to Old Fields in Port Jefferson this week for our date night & only have great things to say. First off, the ambiance was so cozy & inviting, like rustic farmhouse vibes. Our server Franco was super knowledgeable on the menu & helped guide us through the wines AND the food we had questions about. I'd come back for service like that alone without even trying the food. He told us all the specials & my husband ended up getting the Short Rib which was to DIE for & I got the New York Strip special which melted in your mouth. The Cabernet Franco paired for us with both these dishes went absolutely perfect. This was 100% worth the extra Ferry trip from Connecticut & we will definitely be back! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed their food here! We had a bunch of us, 7 I think, we all had different apps, and dinners, carefully shared all the apps, every one better than the next! This place is a great eating experience! The steaks were moist, flavorful and juicy - prepared and plated perfectly and according to our orders. There was so much food that we took home our left overs! I can't say more about the staff, friendliness and genuine drive to make our night an enjoyable event. Yummy! Went on a Friday night, mixed crowd, seated on bar side. Lively and a little loud. Nice specialty cocktails, but very slow on drink service for some reason. We ordered our 2nd drinks after appetizer, and they came when we were almost done with dinner. Idk why I read negative review of the wings. I thought the sauce was not bland at all... had a slight kick to it. The wings were saucy and had a nice crunch while being moist. We also got fish tacos and spinach dip that everyone liked. Filet mignon was as should have been expected, cooked as ordered. Shrimp grits had a tomato sauce base which was reported to have been tasty, as was the risotto. Overall YUM! $$$ price wise= 170 a couple w 2 drinks each and an appetizer each. Would come back. Slow with drinks. Could be fluke. Not sure. read more

Disclaimer: I worked here for a brief instant (like a few months) and would definitely recommend to others. That being said, Old Fields Restaurant gets an extremely solid 4.7 rating from me for a lot of reasons. The location, decor, product, and value for your money here is 95% worth it. Furthermore, a few of the menu items are slightly over priced. The only other possible downside I could think of about this place is that it's really loud. Favorites; - They have one of the best burgers - Dave's roasted chicken - Truffle burrata - Short rib risotto SIDENOTEs; - the staff is trained well and knows the menu - The food is outstanding - The happy hour they run is amazing - The crowd is friendly and casual/ kids are welcome here. read more

Who comes up with the drinks? I'm not sure but I LOVE them. Staff is phenomenal. We love the bartenders. Shout out to hostess Jess who always greets us with a smile and remembers us by name. The food quality was hit or miss, shockingly overpriced, and the service was slow and disappointing. To be fair, their baratta appetizer the best I've ever had, and my Spanish grilled octopus entree was amazing! The portion was tiny, however My dad got the vegetable ravioli special which was horribly oversalted to the point that it tasted like something out of a can. It was $27, the SAME PRICE as my small entree. What a rip-off! Their wine prices were insane too. The cheapest bottle was 50 something bucks! The waiters were clueless. We ordered a second glass of wine prior to our entrees that never arrived. I had avoided coming here for the longest time, thinking it was overpriced... but honestly, for what you get, their prices are on point. Service is always wonderful, and the bar pours a generously. Try the Duck French Dip - surprisingly good. They also cook up a great burger - quality meat, nicely charred, and always correctly cooked to order - and skip the ketchup, it's flavorful enough without it. Great fries to round it out. My wife is always happy with the Shrimp & Grits - very tasty, and a generous portion as well. Clam chowder and onion soup are also pleasers. Decided to give Old Fields Port Jeff a redemption visit last night. (See my bad experience review on their Greenlawn yelp page.) I did come to the Port Jeff location during the pandemic in 2020 and the food was great. This time it was very disappointing and underwhelming for a $210 meal. I have no complaints about the service, the waitress was nice and attentive. Atmosphere was nice, sat outside on a cool night. The only good things were the drinks, french onion soup, and mac and cheese. Both locations had a menu overhaul with raised prices. We came to Port Jeff so I could get the Short Rib Risotto (new recipe) which is not at the Greenlawn location anymore. I ordered the short rib risotto. My fiancé and his son ordered the Filet au Poirve with mushrooms. The new risotto is red wine, goat cheese, and mushrooms. Despite the red color it lacked flavor, there was a hint of red wine but otherwise tasted plain. The short rib on the other hand was tasty and made the dish edible. However the dish wasn't great and not even close to being on par with their old recipe. As for the steaks my fiancée ordered medium and his son ordered medium rare. His son's steak came out cooked perfectly. He did eat his steak no problem and did say his was good. My fiancés steak came out with a medium rare center but didn't want to sent it back. He ate the the medium parts of the steak but said it tasted irony. I tasted the steak and it did have an off taste. Not rotten like our last experience but just off. He ended up giving the rare part of the steak to his son without mentioning the off taste to him. His son started eating the steak and said it tasted weird and asked us if he had the same dish as his dad, then wouldn't touch it. Usually his teenage son polishes off any protein that is left over from out dishes. We were so disappointed that we didn't bother with a desert menu. All in all both locations of Old Fields used to be our go to restaurant for great food. I understand the pandemic happened and everything was off for a little bit but I don't think that's an excuse for just OK food for those prices. Very bummed, won't be coming back but I hope they get both of their restaurant locations back to precovid quality. We will still support Old Fields Barbecue and Ellas as their food quality did not change. read more

This was are go to restaurant pre covid and I finally got the wife to go out only for the food runner to bring out our food with her thumbs in the food and we were upset to find that they changed the fries to some cheap frozen product and the over all quality of the beef was not what we were use to at old fields. After hearing that Pace's Steakhouse had closed in Port Jeff, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Now knowing what has come after I am glad that it is gone! The ambience of this restaurant is perfect. It's rustic and romantic and has the perfect amount of charm. The wine and beer list left nothing to desire. The menu had just enough choices that really anyone could find something to enjoy. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip with pita chips and the French onion soup. This French onion was probably the best that I had ever had. Complements to the chef! It was piping hot, the cheese was gooey and crispy just how it should be and the flavor was on point. The spinach dip was warm, creamy, and everything you could want when having this common dip. Totally kicks the crap out of Applebee's! I had the filet mignon cooked medium rare with the mushroom Demi Glaze which was perfectly cooked and had enough char from the grill and sweetness from the glaze. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time! Sides were just ok- they ran out of mashed potatoes and gave me fries which were good, but I didn't order them so it wasn't what I wanted. Also came with broccoli rabe which again was ok. He had the 56 burger- beyond delish but a little small. All and all this place left us satisfied and we will certainly be returning. read more

Definitely 5 stars! I took hubby here for his bday last night, and very glad I did!! ...the atmosphere is rustic but elegant, cozy and romantic..the staff was attentitive and very professional. Great service!...I ordered a margarita to start, and I know a good margarita; this was a good marg!! Lol...now to the food, we started with fried calamari-great!..I ordered the fish and chips-excellent. Served properly with malt vinegar on the side! ...husband ordered the special; hanger steak, he subbed out the mash for the steak fries..also comes with green beans which were so tasty! We both loved are meals and will definitely be returning. We got there around 5:30 so it wasn't crowded yet, by the time we were all done about 7, the place was getting packed ..so if you don't want a long wait and a more mellow atmosphere, go a little early.
