Just had a GREAT NY steak at OH Gaylord, highly recommend this place if you are a NY steak lover like me.

Located inside the Gaylord Hotel at the National Harbor the Old Hickory is stunning inside and quite large. There is a cozy seating area where you can wait comfortably for at least 50% of your party to arrive before seating. Besutiful bar area with ample seating as well. The dining area is seperated into several different rooms. Comfortable tables/chairs Service was great. There are multiple folks assigned to a table so you are well taken care of. Where they lose stars is in the food. Everything I tried was disappointing and for the price, my expectations were higher. We were a table of 7 so we tried multiple sides. * My filet, ordered medium, while pink in the center, it was dry and too salty * The Crab Oscar was flavorless and arrived room temp. Bernaise sauce was congeled and the asparagus was not cooked. *Carrots and Brussel sprouts both were undercooked. * Pan seared scallops were flavorless * Lobster mac and cheese was bland. For the prices this place charges, it should be an experience. It's not. Feels like a convention hotel restaurant with servers who don't want to be there. This is a refined restaurant that is more treat than everyday, for me. The decor is stately and cozy. I like that some of the seating is far apart. However the openness can lead to overhearing conversations. Enjoyed the fries coated with rice flour and the carrots. They tasted better with the maple mustard glaze requested on the side. The hostess did hear my allergies but I had to check with the waiter for the lamb I ordered. It said herb crusted but was also covered with breadcrumbs. The waiter definitely checked and replaced the lamb. However that was not addressed until I asked when the dish was in front of me. The drinks were good upon arrival. The ice diluted the flavors fast, but that is something I notice. The waiter also made a comment about tipping (making waiters happy), which surprised and disappointed me. While I liked a lot of things about the restaurant, the overall experience was midrange. read more

If you are looking for an elegant steakhouse meal with great views- this is a beautiful spot in the Gaylord hotel. The food is on the pricier side but is in line with a hotel restaurant. Out group got some plates to share- the pork belly appetizer, mushroom risotto, fries, Brussel sprouts, carrots, potato gratin and mac and cheese. The sides were definitely the stand outs- especially the carrots and potato gratin. The wine was also good. I would definitely be back for the drinks and sides! read more

I like that places around here have a good vibe, but you don't have to dress up to go to them. The space is very big - a lot bigger than it looks like from the outside. The service was good, but the drinks were subpar. My husband got the ribeye with mashed potatoes and I was not impressed but he liked it. Would go again for the lounge vibe, but I'm not sure what I would order. read more

Terrible experience. First they ask if you have a food allergy before taking your order - yes, I do. Then food comes and it contains that allergen which I can clearly see. Flag down the server. 20 minute later the corrected food arrives. Not to mention the actual salmon was disgustingly fishy and tasted not fresh. I didn't eat more than a bite. Paid my check and left. No apology, no asking if I was happy. The burger was fine so giving this place 2 stars. I was so frustrated I forgot to take pictures. read more

Average food and bar service in captive Gaylord hotel environment. I'm shocked at the limited dining options in the hotel. Especially when corporate events shut down other options. This is a mix of a two meal experience .. both unique. First dinner. We started with bread and salads. The usual. Then we moved to crab cakes ... amazing. So much crab with very little filling. The meal was family style for us .. salmon, chicken, asparagus, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The chicken was super tasty .. loved the spices. The Mac and cheese was cooked perfectly.. creamy in the middle with a crispy crust on top..the asparagus was cooked al dente (or perfect). Enjoyed the dinner!! The lunch was not so successful. The hamburger bun fell apart, and the hamburger itself was not seasoned well. The French fries were 75% of the $30 plate. Lunch, I did not enjoy. The service was excellent at both meals. Met an ex-coworker here who was attending a conference. I had had pot roast the night before and was having a steak dinner the next night, so I opted for fish. I know, I know, it's crazy to order fish in a steak restaurant. But I have no regrets! Bread came out warm with a creative salted whipped butter. So yummy! First I started with the kale salad and it was excellent. Light and healthy and the perfect starter. The Ora King salmon with sauce on side was also excellent although not crazy about the mussels. Beautiful steakhouse in the lobby of Gaylord, truly a testament to elite hotels. As expected the prices were beyond what my little mind could fathom. My wife and I split the seafood tower, we got the grand so we could enjoy lobster; and my kid got fried and Mac and cheese. He liked his food, not loved it. And we ate our food, I wouldn't say enjoyed it. Cold seafood lacks flavor, so it's up to hot sauce, butter, cocktail sauce, and all the other extras they give to step up the flavor. The seafood was fresh no doubt and the portion substantial but definitely a 40% markup on what was provided. Our waiter was beyond involved, very kind and attentive, checked on us what seemed like twice a minute. Maybe the steak is where it's at but I'll skip my chances in the future. read more

I find it harder to leave 5 star reviews lately, and a restaurant / business needs to really earn it. Old Hickory does just that. Located inside the Gaylord Hotel / resort, the location is extremely convenient if you're a hotel guest. From start to finish it was a great experience. Plenty of bar seating available (Recommend reservations if with a larger party, for a table). The food is where it really stands out. I noticed they had bone marrow for an appetizer. Of course, had to try it, as I do anywhere that actually serves it. This was up there with the best, if not THE best I've had. Flavor of both the marrow and toasted bread, were perfection. For the entree, I ordered the filet mignon. Again, a great choice. Cooked to perfection (medium rare), with great flavor. Drinks weren't cheap but also not outrageous compared to other restaurants in the area. Would 100% come back again, and would recommend to others as well. read more

On 7/8, I called ahead and spoke to Rosario who said they were doing their brunch menu and were open. When we arrived about 45 minutes later, the same person tells me that they switched over to "buffet style" because there were too many guests with children. I didn't know that's how this restaurant operates--just switching their menus. I've had both in the past. Their brunch menu is curated entrees with exceptional quality whereas their buffet-style brunch is straight up trash and overpriced. It's surprising how a restaurant can have that differing quality food and switch things up same day. We paid $22 for parking for 16 minutes only to be disappointed and end up eating elsewhere. Be aware that the restaurant also requires a credit card for reservations and charges a fee for no-shows, and there was no way to cancel it on my own so I asked her to cancel it, which she did. The restaurant was empty so it's not like a lost reservation would ding them. Just another way to make money. read more

Probably one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to at these prices with the worst service. I thought maybe it was only me but my bar mate geeked me up for this one. Took 15 mins to get a drink with a mostly empty bar rail, I ordered food along with the women next to me also by her self I got the skirt steak with sub truffle potatoes vs fries. They brought the fries took it back then came back to the bar rail and scraped the fries off in to the bar rail and said she didn't want to waste the steak and it would be another 10 mins. Then continued to wipe the plate off with a random napkin she found on the bar rail. The gentleman that brought the women's food out was rubbing his hands everywhere didn't wash and then handed her her food.I was completely done eating along with the woman next to me with the single crab cake that smelled pretty rough i believe they refunded her crab cake. All we could do was laugh at those point as far as the price point goes, in all of my years i haven't had service this terrible at this price point ever and the staff is just laughing and messing around behind the bar. Staying at the Gaylord and my local cousins joined us for breakfast. We had 4 adults and one child. There was no wait and was told no reservations are required for breakfast. We were greeted friendly ally our waitress, who took our order but I'm not sure she was fully listening. My cousin ordered an omelet that comes with cheese - no cheese was included. My mom ordered eggs over medium but they arrived overcooked. My child cousin ordered toast but he never received it. Thankfully he had breakfast before coming and decided he didn't want toast. I ordered steak and eggs but no eggs. The waitress convinced my cousin to take my eggs but then brought them out on my plate. Despite all of that the food was good. Not amazing just good. I guess I expected more from a fine dining establishment. Also note... they did away with their Sunday brunch menu back in November. Plus I saw online (not on the Gaylord website) about a breakfast buffet and did not see that as well. read more

We waited 30+ minutes just to order drinks, and my wine must have required a trip to the basement of Narnia because it took another 20 minutes to appear after everyone else got their craft cocktails. The check showed multiple entrees our table didn't order or receive, plus a charge for an entire bottle of wine despite ordering one glass, all on top of a 20% automatic gratuity. Hard not to assume she was padding an already high-spend bill for extra cash. The place wasn't even busy. Just inattentive, corner-cutting service with none of the professionalism you'd expect from a fine dining establishment with a price point as high as Old Hickory's. If you're taking clients here, check every line of that bill. Appearances clearly outpace integrity. The kitchen shows real skill. What made the experience even more remarkable was the exceptional service and leadership from Alex. I too am guilty, admittedly not having stepped foot in the Gaylord National Harbor in over 6 years! The food was fabulous, and the service was excellent. Our server Ruben's recommendations were fantastic. We loved and went with every single one of them starting with the Baked Maryland Lump Crab Dip. The crab dip was thick, creamy, and piping hot with large chunks of fresh lump crab meat. For entrees, we had the Tournedos Rossini and the Old Hickory Crabcakes. The steak was extremely tender, luxurious, and flavorful. The Crabcakes were meaty, juicy, well-seasoned, and golden brown. The bill was not small by any means, but reasonable for a steakhouse. Old Hickory was an experience. From the food to the class and charm of the staff. It's an experience I will be having again and again. This place is worth every penny! read more

We spent the weekend at the Gaylord and attended a wine and dinner event at this restaurant. Even though the event was scheduled for 6-8, we didn't get seated until 6:30. And then we waited a bit more for it to start and for the wine to be served. It would've been nice if they served some wine as soon as we were seated since we waited a while again for things to start (sparkling maybe?). But besides that, everything from then onwards was awesome! Barrel Oak Winery presented their wines with each dish especially prepared by the chefs at Old Hickory. They even prepared a vegetarian menu for my husband! The food was so delicious, starting with an amuse bouche, then beet salad, halibut and then short ribs, ending with a pear mousse dessert. Each wine pairing was also so delicious and perfect! As a foodie, I was truly happy and so glad we went! I told the event coordinators I'd be happy to attend anytime they held this event! One Word: WOW!!! My husband and I joined my sister and her husband to celebrate her birthday at this beautiful restaurant. From the beginning to the end, the experience was amazing. My gf's and I were overdue for a girl's brunch out! So we decided to come to Old Hickory since I believe it just opened back up with a new brunch option. They start serving brunch at 11:30 so we had a reservation for that time (please note if someone in your party doesn't show they stated they will charge a $25 fee for that person). I was the first one to arrive from my party at 11:20, so I checked us in. There was another large group who arrived a little after me. They also checked in. When my GF's arrived, we wanted to inform the waitress that our entire party had arrived. We were overlooked several times without any acknowledgment. After walking up to the lady and having to speak loudly, she then noticed us. We were seated (after the large party), and the waitress apologized for some sort of mixed up. The decor has a very old fashion appeal, which I wasn't a fan of. However, where we were seated was next to an open balcony that overlooked the hotel, which was pretty nice. The food was delicious I enjoyed everything that I had. The appetizers come family style in charcuterie style. My favorite had to be the lobster rolls! So delicious and buttery and flavorful! Just yum! For my entree I got the crab cake Benedict, which was pretty good; however, because they didn't (throughout the entire visit) bring enough silverware my eggs got cold and hardened up, so it really wasn't a Benedict. Desserts is also shared family style and brought out in a nice display board, which was pretty good as well. My gf's wasn't pleased with their food any at all. It's a great venue to take clients to dinner after industry conventions and tradeshows here at the Gaylord. First time here. Our waiter was Marc. We freaking love Marc. Everyone should be like Marc. He wanted to make sure we had a great dinner and made us feel so special. Love him. The restaurant is in the Gaylord and it is very clean, absolutely love the old fashioned decor, and we were sat right near the window where you can see the Ferris wheel . Bread and honey butter was what dreams are made of, Maryland charcuterie board was sooooooooo good. PLEASE GET THE SMOKED SMITHSONIAN DRINK!!! Also the Riverside breeze drink was so good I don't usually like to drink alcohol but this drink was so flavorful and went well with the entree too. Joe the waiter my group had was extremely rude. The food was mediocre, lacked seasoning. Joe server told us that the issue with our order was our fault when we ordered correctly. He then proceeded to antagonize my table. We spoke to the management they first charged the price but included a service charge that was higher than the original bill. Bring back the tablecloths! After that, the food was delicious. Hands-down, one of the best locations in DC for dinner. The restaurant is humongous and airy with a beautiful decor and amazing, gentle, friendly staff people. We had the best view in the restaurant next to the patio and overlooking Potomac and the Ferris wheel. I am so happy we chose that location. But bring back the white tablecloths seriously. If a server is going to place your flatware for each meal, it shouldn't spin around on a wooden table. My kale salad was delicious and light and filling and large! I enjoyed the vinaigrette that came on it, but I typically get my dressing on the side. But I did not mind it. They actually garnished it perfectly. My partner had the wedge salad and he said he enjoyed it. Our particular favorite delight were the Peruvian peppers in both of our salads. I must find the seeds and grow my own! My appetizer was the crabcake and it came with the delicious light, lemon sauce and corn and the Peruvian red peppers. Hardy no filler and garnished with lovely greens on top. it was full of flavor and just delightful to eat. My partner had the fillet steak with asparagus. He said the steak was amazing and I did taste a bit of it and indeed perfectly cooked and seasoning highlighted the meat. My cauliflower steak was wonderful although I would order it again. I would also remove the olive tapenade that was on it. It was entirely too salty for my taste. We also ordered a side of bernaise and oxtail sauces so putting that oxtail sauce over my cauliflower steak and mushrooms was the perfect way to eat it after removing the tapenade. I think I was most disappointed by the bread. It was not served warm and in fact, it was quite chewy that we could hardly eat it with delicious honey butter. That was most disappointing. Overall, The restaurant, the servers, the location, the table, the view, the meal-- Everything was wonderful. We left no room for dessert though. I can't wait to go back and get steak ! read more
