Best steak in town!! Been going since I was a kid! Now I take my kid! Service is great too. Just all around a great place.

We stayed in Columbus for a week while on a hunting trip. We found this place one night while out looking for something to eat. We went in and was kinda skeptical from the looks. But this place is a prime example of don't judge a book by it cover. They have a very limited menu, which only consist of four different cuts of steak. My son got the filet and I got the ribeye. All dinners come with salad, baked potato, and a piece of garlic bread. One of the best steaks I've ever had. This will be a definite stop if we are anywhere close to Columbus. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Travel here for work about every 3 months and I always struggle with what to eat for dinner. Found this place in yelp and decided to try it out. You seat yourself, and the menu is SUPER simple but man do that do it right. I had a large ribeye cooked medium and devoured it. They keep it simple and they keep it real. Basicly they have stake or stake. And it is the best stake you could ever hope to have. Tender, perfectly cooked and delicious. The service is top notch , very freindly and fast. Now don't get to thinking thst this is a fancy snobby stakehouse. I've passed by this place a hundred times before, but finally decided to come tonight for our work Christmas meal before leaving town tomorrow. The steaks are cooked up front open pit style. All steaks come with a side salad, baked potato, and toast. I got the large ribeye meal. My steak was juicy, had great flavor, and at medium rare was cooked to perfection. I'd say it was the second best steak I've eaten this year in a restaurant, best one in Mississippi. Putting sauce on this steak would be a sin. Salad was just ok, but the potato and toast were both excellent. If you are ever in the Columbus area I'd definitely recommend stopping by here for a delicious meal, but bring your steak appetite because that's all you will find on the menu. read more

When I travel I LOVE to find a place that is off the beaten path. I found the Old Hickory Steak House totally by accident which proves the word "accident" is not always bad! The Old Hickory Steak House is yet another establishment that really does NOT need any Yelp Help. The man who owns this place speaks only the language of fire and meat. It's a silent primal language so shut-up and listen. The Old Hickory Steak House is not very big at all and if you are not looking you might miss it except for the billowing clouds of delicious smelling grill smoke going up into the air when you drive past it. And this alone nearly caused me to do an illegal U-turn just to get back! The parking lot is small and hitting it off of a busy road must be what it feels like to be a Navy pilot trying to drop a plane on a carrier deck. OK. Maybe not but you get the idea. Slow down or you will hit the curb. Now, when you get there and pull up the place has the feel of some kind of roadhouse shack. You can see the steak chef through a large window grilling steaks over an open fire with flames leaping through the grate and large slabs of tasty, mouth watering beef steaks of varying cuts resting on different areas of the grill. I can't quit talking about that huge fire grill in there because if you know anything about grilling meat then you know that when you see a steak chef who has grill areas of different temperatures, he knows what the hell he is doing! The beauty of this place (yes I just used the word "beauty" to describe meat seared over an open fire) is that the menu is SIMPLE ! Do you hear me? Its one page only and half of that one page menu is different cuts and types of steaks. The other part of the menu is for drinks including beer. The next parts of the one page menu is for salad with only three yummy dressings and potatoes. Oh yeah, and the different stuff that goes on the potatoes. GOT IT? That's all. Now it is kind of dark inside the place where we sat near the grill so you will have to squint to read it in the firelight but no worries. Me and the boy have been doing some traveling this summer and this was a great "Dad and Son" pit-stop. That would be a Hickory Pit-Stop! We ordered the T-bone Steak medium rare. The STEAK WAS AWESOME! Cooked on the grill tender, tasty and to PERFECTION. We also got the loaded baked potatoes with butter and sour cream and the fresh, crispy salads with the three yummy dressings. We tried all three yummy dressings. The fave was the blue cheese. And lets talk about that potato. That is one DAMN tasty genuine Idaho potato and it was really good smeared through the steak gravy. Oh yeah and huge pieces of buttered Texas toast also kept the boy happy. If you are a vegetarian you will not like this place and you will especially hate your meat eating friends gushing and blushing as they chew the delicious tender pieces of your imagined animal friends being cooked on open flame behind you! Just lighten up, OK!? Beef cattle are not an endangered species and they are not cuddly or even cute. Besides, I am an unapologetic, unrepentant caveman whose only danger to you is when he is hungry and being told not to follow his instincts. And really if you think about it, we ARE on the same page because I love these animals just as much as you do but in a VERY different way! Can't we all just get along?! Actually, I don't care whether we all get along or not. The Old Hickory Steak House is worth the extra time it will take off the road to slow down and have a meal. And dads should take their sons here and sons should take their dads here. Me and the boy left happy, full, and with a high energy meat buzz heading down the road to our next adventure singing old Johnny Cash songs at the top of our lungs. Life is good ! I'm visiting here from Las Vegas, and I'm one of those people that love finding that old gem of a place you would never expect to find. Yes, this place is small and a hole in the wall, but actually there was a fairly large hole in the ceiling... looking like water damage. Anyway, if you want a tasty steak that's nearly the size of the plate, AND looking for reasonable prices, look no further. My oversized porterhouse steak dinner was $16.75. Comes with salad, baked potato, 3 choices of dressing and garlic buttered bread. I think the NY strip was about $1.25 less. I'm out the door with a $19.75 tab, that included ice tea and tax. Not a large menu or selection, but KISS (keep it simple stupid) applies here. One of the best steaks you will ever eat anywhere! While working at Columbus AFB we ate here twice and it is excellent. I would give it 5 stars if the menu had more options but, it's pretty much a meat and potatoes kinda place. The Filet is so tender you can cut it with a fork. Tonight 9 of us went there after work and everyone was really impressed. So 4 Stars overall but, if it were on taste alone...this would be a 5 Star Steakhouse. read more

We were prepared for the long wait in line (an hour 45 min) but even after being sat we didn't retreive our entrees until two hours after being seated. My steak didn't come cooked right and when asked if our meal went okay we had said they didn't come out right and the cook and server LAUGHED. Good hole in the wall! My husband and I got the sirloin for two ordered medium rare. The steak was fabulous. It was a 32oz steak. It was seasoned and cooked great. It came with two baked potatoes and two salads. The salads were small and just a salad and bottled dressing. The potatoes were soft but nothing other than an a regular baked potato. Also got a basket of Texas toast garlic bread. Was good too. The sirloin for two was $49. It thought it was a good deal for the amount of steak we got. Would go again! read more

The small ribeye that I had was moist and flavorful. It was very tender as well. I ordered it medium well and it was spot on. The salad that came out was fresh. I like the fact that the salad dressings come out in a container that you can decide how much dressing, or how little, that you want. The sweet iced tea was bottomless! Consistently excellent. The simplicity of the menu keeps the focus on steak, so what you get is delicious. There are no selections of potatoes here. You get a baked potato, and a side salad (pre-made) with a choice of three salad dressings that are brought to the table with your salad. Ranch, 1000 Island and Bleu Cheese are what you have to choose from. I always order the filet when I eat here. I order mine medium. It's perfect every single time. From the first bite to the last it's perfection in my mouth. Tender and delicious, we are never disappointed when we eat here. One of the best steaks I've ever had! Old Hickory Steak House is a small, unassuming building with a small parking lot. Yelpers says it gets busy, and I was starving so I got there a little after 5. I was greeted by a friendly waitress and told to sit anywhere. I ordered the small ribeye, rare and it was perfect. I ate here about two years ago and it steaks were great. So since I was in area I figured I would try again. It's a Saturday so I expected to be busy. The wait for a table was about it 30 mins which I dId not mind. We sat down ordered, got our salads and a waters and soda. Than sat there for 50 mins, waiting on our order. Waitress never came to give more water, but talked to the people at the table next to us for 10 min about her son. We finally left $2 on for the soda and walked out.
