What a treat! Decided to check out MSU and Starkville and found our way here for lunch. The place itself is iconic...great barbecue, burgers, chicken, and even crawfish! We met Dooey himself as he walks around chatting with customers. Do not miss this spot if you're in Starkville!

I was very excited to visit the Little Dooey, with such an esteemed reputation. The front counter staff were super friendly and helpful and the restaurant was clean and inviting. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. My sandwich arrived barely warm. The cheese was not fully melted. Overlooking that, it was a tasty combination. It just would've been a lot better hot or even warm. I ordered coleslaw and macaroni and cheese for my sides. The coleslaw was excellent and made a nice complement to the sandwich. The Mac and cheese, unfortunately, was very bland. So, my review is mixed, and the four star rating is generous, only because I know they can do better than what I experienced!

Little Dooey one of the best BBQ places in Starkville. Definitely a stop after or before an MSU sporting event or just when passing through.

Surf and Turf with pork and catfish, cheese grits and onion rings

This review is a mixed bag due to the "tradition" of the location and history. First, if you are in Starkville then I think you have to go here. It is a landmark for lack of a better word. It is busy and a line is usually out the door. We really enjoyed talking to people in line who had been here many times. There is a large overflow parking lot that is monitored by security to ensure people are going to The Little Dooey. You order at the front and then find a seat (can be a task at times). They have Bbq, catfish, burgers, crawfish, etc. I saw lots of crawfish going out. I had the surf and turf with pulled pork and catfish filet. I had a side of cheese grits and onion rings. If I were only rating food it would honestly be around a 3. The pork was ok, the onion rings were overcooked and the cheese grits were tasty but lukewarm and too thick. However, the catfish was absolutely delicious! It was fresh and cooked just right. It had the perfect flakiness and taste. We actually met the owner and had some good conversation with him. There is some outside seating which looked large. However, there was a private party so I couldn't get a good perspective of what the outside area entails. Overall, I recommend The Little Dooey because I believe the experience is worth the trip and the menu has a wide variety of items that anyone could enjoy.

Pulled pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw and an order of potato salad. Will definitely be back when we are in Starkville Amazing service Great music playing while you eat.

Stopped by today for lunch, surprised at all the upgrades inside! Food delicious as normal, I had Catfish & hubby had the pork plate. Quick & delicious! Had to park at the annex but worth a short walk. The staff are really nice & helpful!

We opted for bar seating and had water brought to us while we scanned the expansive drink menu. In addition to the signature cocktails, there is a variety of hard liquor, an amazing amount of whiskey, wine, (both red and white) as well as an impressive draft beer menu. It should be noted that there's a whiskey flight for $20 and you get a 1 ounce pour of each whiskey. It looks like there are seven on offer for this special. We didn't try it so cannot offer any more insights on that. We ordered the January gumbo special"Baby Duck Gumbo" - mine as is with chicken and sausage for $9 ( interestingly with okra which is only ever found in seafood gumbo ... at least in Louisiana) and the other with the addition of shrimp for $5 more. We asked for the saltines to be left off as we don't like to waste food and aren't fans of these old school standards. We split the brisket melt on marbled rye instead of Texas toast and left off the American cheese too... yeah we're *those* people... the sandwich comes with a choice of house seasoned fries or potato chips and we ordered the fries. The order arrived together (sigh). I would have preferred the gumbo to come first, then the sandwich, but hey, my mistake I guess I *should've* said something. Of course, I thought it was common sense that it should come in two courses instead of altogether. ... On a brighter not the order came just as we had requested and was a nice presentation. The gumbo was hearty and had plenty of protein albeit more rice than I would've liked. NOTE: if you are not an okra fan, beware. Both of us are good with okra so it was not a problem, but they do have plenty of okra in this gumbo. My dining partner said to skip the $5 add on of shrimp because although they are plentiful, they lack flavor. The sandwich is a decent size and was very tasty too and we both gave it a thumbs up. The fries were still hot and had a nice subtle flavor. Overall we'd give this roadhouse feeling, zany atmosphered little joint on the corner of Old West Point Rd and University a recommendation. The servers could use a refresher on how to greet guests and checking on them at least once during the meal :/ (1 star deduction) Oh, hey, they also have ample outdoor seating which is pet friendly for well behaved dogs.

Came here with my son-in-law after the egg bowl…read more We were able to be seated immediately in the back area booths near the beer wall. I decided to try the Red Beans and Rice (red beans marinated for 24 hours, simmered with sausage, ribeye, and vegetables, and served over rice). While the ribeye added to the traditional dish, I was not a fan of the overall end result. It actually seemed like the whole dish had been cooked for 24 hours until there was almost no moisture left. The rice part was fine. My son-in-law decided to try the fried catfish I had been considering. While cooked well and had good flavor, the batter was not the expected cornmeal style normally associated with fried catfish. They were also out of the particular beer he had been wanting to try. After multiple attempts to pick one from the menu, the server said it might be easier to show you what we do have on tap. Service on this visit also left a lot to be desired. From the delay taking the order, having to flag a server down for drink refills and even to get the check. It was not busy enough to cause the service we received. We had been before with my daughter and wife and had a much better experience. So I am not sure if things have gone downhill or just an anomaly. The burger I had on the previous visit was very good and the Rosey Chips (house made potato chips) were pretty good too. My daughter is a big fan of their fried pickles appetizer. Will. Give them another shot, yes but there are plenty of other options we will likely go to first.

It was pretty crowded as expected on a weekend so I decided to just sit at the bar. The place itself was clean, nice, and obviously well kept. Some of the other reviews are what sparked my interest, and I can honestly say that I'm glad I showed up. I told the bartender it was my first time in and told her I was looking for a steak. The one she suggested had a small sweet marinade to it. I'm not really a sweet steak guy but I went with it.... and man was it really good. Cooked to perfection (medium rare) and tasted super fresh. The Mac and cheese was also solid, as was the sweet tea. Now... the chicken noodle soup: I loved it. Big soup here and although this soup was not "brothy" at all, it was thick and creamy, so good. Overall, I can't wait to go back to Starkville if it's on the schedule next spring because if it is, I know where I'll be returning for a meal.
