We love Old Irving Brewing! From where we live, OIB is a bit of a hike, so we don't get to get there very often. But we make it happen as often as possible because we absolutely love it! When we do go, we intentionally plan to get there on a Monday. This is because it is the $15 burger, beer, and bourbon special! What an incredible, and delicious, deal! The beer at OIB is top notch! I really enjoyed my Maibock and my partner loved his IPA. The bourbon was also a scrumptious treat! The burgers are some of the best in Chicago. We are BBB (burger beer bourbon) deal connoisseurs, and OIB is definitely one of our favorites due to the scrumptious burgers. You can choose between the OIB burger OR whatever is the special burger of the week. It is usually a difficult choice because they both sound good, but you can't go wrong either way. I particularly love the OIB burger because of its use of rosemary. YUM! But, what really sets them apart, are the fries. They are so crispy, flavorful, and hearty. I can't get enough of them! And I always get a side of the aioli for dipping and am in heaven! If you haven't been to OIB, I highly recommend it! And, if you can, go on a Monday for their BBB deal! Came here with some friends for the first time on a July evening. There is no AC they use rather they keep the garage doors which serve as windows open. It was quite humid and no breeze which made it uncomfortable. The bar area is large and busy with all sorts of people. The seating is rather utilitarian and archaic. You can view the brewery itself as well which is located in the back part of the space. Food menu is quite hipster in nature and disappointed that the chicharones came in a bag. Presentation is not their speciality. Food taste was par but serving sizes were quite small considering the price. Our waiter was super nice and accommodating. Beer selections here are varied and abundant so there is something is everyone. I would not come back as the city is saturated in breweries that have the same ambience and vibe. They are all fairly new and trying to make it so they need to do something to stand out from the crowd. read more

Nice spacious brewery on the north side of town. They brew their own beer and the bar food is pretty unique and some are quite tasty. Came here on my birthday weekend with about 6-8 people deep. Was told that the wait would be about 45 minutes. The bar and wait staff was very accommodating to me and the rest of my party while we were waiting. They made sure we had drinks in our hand while we waited and even got us into our seats after 20 minutes as a 6 seater opened up. The waiter that helped us said we can just add chairs when the rest of our party got there. Perfect. Love the open floor plan of the place, with exposed brick and loft style decor. There is even a game of bags available towards the back for you to play. The food/appetizers are a hit or miss. Love the garlic French fries, the fried zucchini was a bit too salty but still doable with the lemony zest. The wing of the week flavor at the time was perri perri - wasn't really a fan of it as the skin on the wings were a bit soggy for me. The beers are pretty good. I suggest getting the flight so that you can taste all the different flavors that they brew. Overall, a good place to chill without having to go all the way downtown. read more

This brewery is the bomb and has everything you can need. Great food, changes in menus, new beers every season. They are a staple in the area. If you haven't been here, you are missing out. I even stop on often and grab a four pack of their cans. Best news is they are opening up a second location in the west loop I think? Regardless, don't sleep on this place. I'm here eating in the restaurant at least 2-3 times a month and am stopping for beer at least 3x that. read more

I think this is our new favorite neighborhood restaurant We went on a Saturday night and service was great. They have quality options on their menu. We got the Mac & cheese with hot peppers, Nashville chicken sandwich, burger of the month, and topped it off with bread pudding. All of it was delicious. They brew their own beers and have a wide variety. Very reasonably priced!! We loved the vibes - industrial mixed with cozy mixed with spacious. Plus it's kid friendly. They have some games out too. Cool brew pub with lots of food offerings and a variety of beers on tap! Went here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The vibe was relaxed and the space is pretty cool-makes me wonder what used to be in the building, but tall ceilings, skylights, brick and warm wood table make for an inviting space. You can see the brew tanks in the back and there was a private party going on near them with corn hole and a semi private section. There's also a bar-lots of seating options if you are solo or with a crowd. We ordered a bunch of food and also had a little one with us- there's a kids menu! This is a staple spot for us. Bar staff is engaging and fun. Food is AMAZING as are the beers.

Used to go to alot of breweries back in the day, now not so much. But my friend who loves beer came into town and we thought we would try a new spot out.. Pretty standard brewpub here, nice setup and vibe. They also have a full bar here, for non beer fans. The highlight of this place is the food, not the beer though unfortunately. We got the tokyo sandwich and some cheese curds. Both were amazing! Some of the best curds outside of Wisconsin, for real... Now to the beer. We had some flights, so we got to taste most of the beers, and I must say we were dissapointed. There were none that really stood out. The Beezer and thier Pale ale were some of the best, but mostly everything else was forgettable. Except Mahalo which was pinapple and coconut juice beer, yuck! That was memorable but but in the wrong way. Might go back for the food but not he beer! read more

Pretty cool brewery here in Chicago. Stopped by for brunch and beers last weekend with friends. We ordered the fries (skip the ranch, enjoy the aioli). We also ordered the BLT (non-traditional, a little smaller than I thought for the price) and liked the soft pretzels. My friend took our server's suggestion and tried the octopus; she loved it! As far as beer goes, our group liked Krampus Cookies and House of 'Pagne. Free parking was on the street nearby and the giant Christmas tree was a welcome sight! I've been dying to come here for so long, unfortunately it wasn't everything I thought it would be. 5 stars for atmosphere. Love the high ceilings, garage doors, string lights. The place itself is very cool. But besides that, nothing really stood out to me at all. We ordered a flight and the beers were decent. None were memorable. For food we ordered the charcuterie - decent combinations but the portions were so small, it simply wasn't worth the price. One of the meat selections only came with 2 thin slices of salami, the other 4 thin slices. Most people split charcuterie, & it just wasn't enough. If you check the photo I posted, one of the cheese selections was SO thin it was literally transparent. I've never seen that on a charcuterie board before. That slice isn't enough for 1 person let alone enough to share... So odd. I wouldn't even serve something like that. We also ordered the OIB burger and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Again, not memorable. The OIB burger was okay. Typical burger, I'd give it a 3/5. Chicken sandwich lacked flavor. Which shouldn't be an issue with Nashville hot spices... It also had a funky over fried taste. However, the fries are beer battered I believe and those were great. My favorite type of fries. Service was okay.. we had to grab some silverware and ketchup off an empty table because we didn't get any & didn't want to wait a long time to eat. It was worth checking out because it's one of the bigger, more lively breweries in Chicago. But I don't think I'll be back. read more

I've been following OIB on insta for ages and finally got the opportunity to go. Fantastic decision! We started with the wing appetizer with their mole bbq sauce. It was a sweeter Smokey sauce with good wings, which were good, but didn't blow me out of the water. Then I had the double cheeseburger. True story, this might be the favorite burger I've ever had in Chicago. It is very well balanced and each bite makes me want more. The fries are also fantastic. Ok yelpers In the words of our supreme Court Justice "I like beer". And I love this brewery /restaurant spot in Irving Park. Had a large group and this is one of those spots that could actually accommodate a group of 13 without batting an eye. Long tables, loud and enough space between tables. TV's and the Cubs game on big screens/projectors. Bare exposed brick walls, Children's cartoons on one screen so adults could eat in peace. Everyone is chill, relaxed and having a good time. I arrived at quite a weird dining hour 4:30-5pm - also known as dining w/ children dining time. And to my surprise we were not the only ones tugging along our kiddies. There were several tables with kids and larger group all enjoying the space and food and beer like I was. I decided on just ordering a bunch of small plates/shareables because this is what this is about. My fellow diners had fish n chips, sliced beef sandwich, Reuben and cheeseburger). Those dishes all looked good particularly the fish n chips but I was in for a small plate fix. I had the Vietnamese mussels - It was umami time and salty perfect match. Great flavor, came with nice chunks of toasted faccaccia - like bread to soak up the mussels sauce. After I ran out of bread, yeah... I drank it. It was that good folks. We ordered Mac n Cheese for the kids - which was a pretty generous portion that my little Mac and cheese addict was satisfied. The kids meal burgers were a good size as well and garlic fries were crisp, perfect and tasty. I also ordered wings done two ways (half sweet smoky BBQ and half chipotle buffalo saucy combination). Wings were a good size and I was happy with the dish. I also had house made pork rinds (chicharons) which was served with a Valentino dipping sauce which resembled a Mexican hot sauce that I grew up with (ala cha-lula-like). The place is great for folks with kids to come along. They are accepting of that lifestyle. We kid of lost our many kids in our group because they went off on their own to play some bags. Yeah it's awesome. They kept occupied during dinner with the TVs showing cartoons, and then they had a great game of bags together. Adults had a good time with conversation and catching up and laughs. A+, I'll be back during the summer when they lift up the garage-like doors for another get together. I know both adults and children will enjoy the spot once again. Parking may be a challenge - but could be had with some patience. I decided to walk in and the host tells me that I need to order at the bar. I sit down at the bar and have not been offered anything to eat for 45 minutes. Went for lunch on a Friday. Seated quickly, service was great. Came for the wood fired burger and it didn't disappoint. Cooked perfectly, buttery, juicy, balanced. I don't discriminate when it comes to fries but the ones I really love have that crispy outer texture with some crunch to it, and these were it. The curds were top tier too - a light batter that wasn't too crunchy but had just enough flakiness and the inside was a nice soft cheese, well balanced, and the aioli that came with was great. Besides the pretzel, we didn't really want to finish the food. The wings had too much undesirable sauce, and the mussels tasted frozen. Everytime I come here, I order the wood fired Spanish octopus. It's impressive and taste fantastic - the octopus is tender and potatoes are juicy with the right amount of flavor. I really enjoyed my first visit to this brewery. I love beers and i visited most of the breweries in Chicagoland. This place amused me of their beer selection as well as their food menu. The Blood Orange Ale is really yummy and perfect pairing for chicharones or bone marrow. Parking is so easy along Montrose Ave, they have communal tables too. This spot is a gem I've eaten here twice in the past two weeks. The food is very good, the beers are also excellent and the whole place is so chill. I love that they don't play loud music, that you can watch a game or just have conversation and relax there. The Zucchini BLT is my absolute favorite sandwich, the zucchini is very well prepared and the brisket nachos are also a little decadent treat. The selection was satisfying with predominately IPAs and milk stouts. I chose Krampus Cookies, an eye catching milk stout. Shocker! It tasted tasted lightly of sugar cookies. $5 for 10oz; a pretty [read: very] good deal, if you ask me. My next choice was: Interpretation of Vanity, a white milk stout. White milk stouts are rare, like albino deer. I had to try it, and it did not disappoint. This beer proved easy to drink and smooth tasting with the right amount of sweetness... but, this is just my Interpretation. $4 for 5oz! Looking around at what other people had to eat made my mouth water. We settled for the Spent Grain Apple Cobbler. $8 worth of ice cream, baked apples, carmel, and crumbles of goodness. I've been here 3 times since moving to the area, always sat at the bar. Beers are great. I've had a pale ale and the hazy, both brewed there and both delicious. Wings are very solid, and I love wings. The valentina hot is the closest to a standard hot wing. I wouldn't mind if they added a straight buffalo wing to the lineup - there's a reason it's a classic. I've had their burger, the big ol 8 oz patty one, and it's a good burger. Chicken sandwich is great too. And the garlic fries with either of those really hit the spot. Old Irving hits its marks well. Good beer, good food, nice atmosphere. I'll be back whenever I feel like some pub food and an ale or two. read more
