We walk in, the first thing I notice is some dudes dressed like lumberjacks next to a fireplace with the air conditioning blasting lol. The place has a really cool feel inside but the staff seem very unfriendly, just like the other yelpers mentioned. We waited and waited and waited for someone to take our money to purchase some $$$ drinks. The bar "tender" came over and took a drink order for two of the four people in our party. I had such a great time here and was so present that I didn't take a single picture. If you follow my reviews, you know that this is very unheard of. This bar is a little gem amongst an up and coming silicon beach and sleepy neighborhood. It is the small bar on the west end of the hatchet hall exclusively lit by candle light. They have a beautiful stained glass window, a fire place, and a large selection of liquor. Our bartender Andrew was amazing! He was super friendly, accommodating, and had great taste in vinyl records. His old fashioned was on point and he had an extensive knowledge of whiskeys (hopefully it's high praise coming from an experienced bartender that has designed drink menus for other bars and restaurants in the area). I'm pretty sure all they have is street parking, but it's not all that hard to find some in this area. Awesome bar!! The ambiance is amazing. It seriously feels like you're transported to another world. It's pretty dark and relatively small, but it all adds to the vibe. There's taxidermy on the walls and old photos and they only play music on vinyl. In other words, it's great. The bartenders are nice and friendly and funny. The drinks are classy and their menu is mostly made of variations on the old fashion, but their other cocktails are good too! They have hand cut fat ice cubes which is really cool as well! I feel like this is a total hidden gem that is going to blow up soon. So, definitely check it out now while you can! I will definitely be back!! read more

This is the hidden gem of Culver City! This bar is located in the back of hatchet hall and is a favorite for date night or as the last bar we go to. It's small and lit by candlelight. It's a perfect place to end your night. The bartenders are very knowledgeable, have excellent taste in music (records spinning all night!), and have the best old fashioned on the westside. They also came around and let us know when last call was to make sure our party was able to get an order in. I love this bar for being attached to a great restaurant (Hatchet Hall), for being small & romantic, and for the stellar service. I hope no one finds out about this bar because I would love to keep this all to myself! read more

Great bar, good music, experienced and friendly bar staff and always a great ambiance and atmosphere. BUT what made it outstanding for me was my recent experience. I went for a drink on the Friday night and then on Saturday I realized I had misplaced my bill fold of cash (about $600), it was just in a standard binder clip with no identifying details. I wasn't even sure where I had lost it, on a whim I popped back in on Saturday night and asked the bar tenders on the off chance they may have seen it. I really just wanting to feel I did my best to find it, not expecting to have lost it there, or even if I had that someone would have given back a nice find like that. It shocked me when they said straight away that they had found it and had secured it for me in the office, even though it was super busy they quickly fetched it for me with no fuss. It blew me away, what great people, it restored my faith in humanity. I loved everything about this bar. If I had the spare time and funds, I would be here way too often. The vibe and decor is spot on. It's exactly what is needed for some quality bourbon drinking and what do you know, these guys have a pretty amazing selection. In fact we requested a flight and they put one together for us. Our drinks master (whose name I'm totally blanking on) really knew his stuff and was able to give us some quality insights and education as we enjoyed our flights. We had a couple of the other cocktail specials on the menu and they were expertly crafted. The old turntable cranking out quality tunes and lively scene just top it all off. Get in here before dinner at Hatchet Hall for a less noisy atmosphere. Either way, just go. Highly recommend coming here. Often. read more

First of all, I've never heard of a bar or restaurant serving 4oz. glasses of wine for $11-13. I thought it was just a severe underpour, because another bartender topped me off. When I ordered another glass, I pointed it out again, and the response I got was this: "You got a problem with it, dude? We pour 4oz. here. If you don't like it, I'm taking it back. If you had a problem with it in the first place, you should have gone to me instead of the other guy." (He was busy at the time) He was rude, aggressive and unprofessional and turned me off from this place completely. Cute place otherwise, but even if the bartender wasn't a jerk about it, it might be a good idea for management to consider to stop trying to squeeze 6 glasses out of a $10-ish bottle of wine. read more

After 4 years living on the Westside, this place has emerged as my favorite bar. It's the perfect combination of dimlit cozy vibe without the snooty lounge thing. The walls have weird taxidermy and old art on them that gives it a kind of dark cabin feel. The bartenders are outstanding. They take incredible care to make you top notch cocktails (there is an entire Old Fashioned menu you really should try) and small touches like the chiseled large ice cubes bring the experience together. There's a fireplace in the back to add to the cozy cabin feel, and the topper in my book is that the bartenders play vinyl records on a record player behind the bar to provide music. I'm a music nerd, have a large collection myself, and can fully endorse their musical choices, always excellent, in addition to the owners/managers choices to have these particular folks working there and choosing the music according to mood/crowd/vibe. If you prefer wine, Hatchet Hall is next door, grab one of their excellent wines and come back over to join your party. Highly recommend OMB. read more

Was perusing yelp for a new bar to check out in my neighborhood when I came across "Old Man Bar". Obviously I had to click because of the name alone. After reading the first paragraph of a description provided by a fellow yelper, I was sold on checking this place out. After a great dinner about a block away we took a walk to old man bar. Do not get it confused with "Hatchet Hall" . They are connected and share the same building. You need to go around to the back side of the building and there you will find a nondescript door that says "old man bar" on it. No signage, so don't attempt to find it by just doing a drive by. Now for the actual experience. The second we entered all 4 people in our party knew we were exactly where we wanted to be. The place is small. 20-30 people means the place is packed. There is a bar that seats maybe a dozen people, about 6 or so 2-person booths, and the coveted fire place aurrounded by a few leather arm chairs in the back corner. We were lucky enough to score the seats by the fire. The place is very dark, almost all candlelight. Walls are covered in various skulls and horns and sone very old looking taxidermy. If a dark, warm, leather covered, lounge without a pretentious vibe is up your alley, then this place is it The drinks were incredible. Very fitting to the atmosphere and the menu of whiskey, bourbon, and scotch. They had several bottles I had only heard of, but never found a place to try them. If you like whiskey, you will be in heaven. They have about a dozen or so "old fashioned" along with classics and some incredible original cocktails. Everyone in our party was blown away by each and every drink we ordered. From the old fashioned, to a 12 year High West double rye I had wanted to try for ages, and then the "dealers choice" where I asked our amazing bartender for something smokey, piety, and whatever else he thought would blow me away....it was incredible. Non of us could put our finger on it. On our way out I asked what whiskey he used... it was Mezcal! I unfortunately didn't get our bartenders name, but he was incredible. Not only his knowledge, ability to make any drink flawlessly, but he was very kind and accommodating. This has officially become my local bar. read more

You have to go to the attached restaurant for food and the restaurant/bar are kind of in the middle of nowhere (at least to me) but I would go out of the way to have a fireside nightcap here. read more

This place is spectacular!! After an awful experience at Seventy7 lounge we almost gave up. Our Uber driver told us about Old Man Bar. The place blew us away! It was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated by someone who clearly understand period design. It was so comfortable and cozy, by the fireplace. The whiskey list was impeccable! They had everything they needed to have. I came in on crutches. The bartender came from behind the bar to alert me that a table had opened up. I thought that was so wonderful considering the bar was super busy. This place was hip, trendy and fabulous, but at the same time classy and elegant. It's a place you take a date to impress them. People from all different cultures were there and everyone was talking to one another. One table even bought us drinks. Love button! We will be back often. read more
