First bartender was amazing she was German. Then a guy came and switched shifts not so bueno. If you weren't a regular you could tell.

Shrimp and grits were amazing, loved atmosphere and the service was great as well as the selection of beer! We will be back and recommended!

I am not a drinker so I chalk most of the reviews here to be from drunks who wouldn't know what good food taste like even if they were sober. I ordered the "Elvis" which is a roast beef sub with blue cheese and horseradish sauce. It came with a side and I choose garlic mashed potatoes. This sub roll should have been throw out days ago. The roast beef might have been the best thing on the plate had the blue cheese not been so overpowering. I'm not sure if there was any horseradish or if the blue cheese was just that overpowering. The garlic potatoes.....what can I say....I tasted a hint of garlic but I also tasted a hint of potato. I don't know how someone can mess up mashed potatoes. But they do here. I added salt and pepper but then I just tasted salt and pepper. That's how lacking in flavor it was. The waitress was polite and did keep my tea glass full. But in the end she saw that I didn't touch the mashed potatoes and that the whole sub roll was left on the plate but didn't ask if there was any problems. read more

I have been here twice. Both times I experienced slow service, mediocre food, and indifferent servers. Atmosphere is decent, but food and bad staff ruins it. Will never return. I can make better food at home. Honestly I hope this restaurant closes. The Crab Shack was better. read more

We luckily live very close to this restaurant because we love the food. A relaxed atmosphere in a brewery, has a nice out door seating area when it is warmer weather. We've been a few times when they've had live music on the patio and it's been fun to enjoy. Great beer selection as well as food selection. So far we haven't ordered anything we didn't like. Do not expect rapid in and out here, this is a place to sit down and enjoy your meal. That doesn't mean it's bad or slow service, just that a lot of people love this place and eat here so just enjoy your time. We also have a local food delivery service and Old Mill is one of the establishments that they can deliver and their food is still delicious. They have bingo nights which are also a lot of fun. We ate here recently to celebrate a birthday. I did not realize until we got there the restaurant had changed to a brewery. When seated there were ice cold glass bottles of water that was amazing since it was so hot outside. The waitress kept them coming. The water tasted really good. I ordered the pizza of the day and wish I had created my own. It was a bbq pizza they created. It was like they just threw some bbq sauce on the crust, added fried chicken pieces, corn nuggets and cheese and onion. The crust was good but the rest was ok. The bbq sauce was the pizza sauce. My husband and his brother ordered hamburgers that were very burnt looking on the outside. My husband took the outer part off and still ate it. I could not have done that. I would have sent them back. The cheese fries were good as appetizers. When we ate here before when it was a nice restaurant it just seemed fancier. The atmosphere just wasn't there anymore to me. I would go back but there are more places to choose that may have them beat. The waitress was very attentive but not too much so. We enjoyed our family time together for sure. read more

My wife and I went there for our 13th wedding anniversary tonight (2/15/14), and were less than pleased with the food. We started with the nachos appetizer. Not that great, just ok. I'm not a big fan of Cheese Whiz. There was a little cheddar sprinkled on top though. Very little. Then came the dinner. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were dry & sticky. She thought it was sticky rice at first. The shrimp were tiny and mushy, very mushy. I ordered one of the nights specials, rib eye steak ($18.00). I swear, the steak wasn't even a half inch thick, fatty & loaded with gristle. The waiter was great about it & called the manager over. He was very apologetic and said they had not got any other complaints about those dishes. He wouldn't try the shrimp when I asked him to though. They did comp our drinks, which was nice as we did offer to pay for them. I guess we should have got a sandwich or burger instead, but I didn't want to risk it. I don't think we'll be going back. I legitimately do not understand some of these reviews. This place is great. Get a burger. It's a brewpub, that is what they are known for. The Hella Gouda and the Branden Southwest Burger are the two best burgers on the menu. I cannot attest to the other entrees besides the shrimp and grits (which are very good, I would just get them without the large chunks of red onion next time), however, I do not usually go to a brewpub and order eggplant Parmesan. It's kind of a burger and beer place. And the burgers are AWESOME. The buffalo chicken dip is awesome too. Get it. You won't be disappointed. The service is usually good, but this place does get really busy, and can maybe be a little slack on occasion. But we love this place and go weekly. read more

Came here with my kids and we all enjoyed it. Had the spinach and artichoke dip to start and it was excellent. There were whole spinach leaves in the dip. Very good. I opted for a side of chili with my sandwich and was blown away by it. Lots of meat, flavor and it had a kick! Excellent. I had the P Snoodler and subbed the provolone for the ghost pepper cheese. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was actually on a piece of crusty French bread instead of the sub like roll it came on. The au jus tasted good but I think it was just brown gravy. My daughter loved the chicken tenders but said the mashed potatoes were a bit bland. My son just eats Mac and Cheese and was happy enough with the Kraft (his favorite) but said the fries were a bit salty. The staff though was extremely attentive and I would definitely come back here. Old Mill Brewpub is my favorite place in Lexington currently. Besides the home brews the brewpub puts out, they have a stellar beer list as well. Best outdoor dog friendly dining in Lexington hands down. You can't beat the view, and if you are lucky you may see some great water skiing. Good pub food. Burgers, nachos, Ruben, Crabcake sandwich, fish n' chips etc. The risotto balls are my favorite appetizer. The crabcake sandwich had great flavor, but was more like a slider with a large $ tag. Other sandwiches I've had have been yummy (cuban missile crisis/Ruben). To be completely honest, I come for the dog friendliness, the outdoor seating, and the beer list. The food is secondary for us honestly, but who can be let down by a burger / chicken fingers when you have a cold beer, water view, and your dog chilling with you. The owner has come out to speak to us/bring dog water bowl and is very nice! Service has been great, but have had a bad apple once. Also they seem to be on a wait for the view a lot, but that should come with the territory. The pineapple kolsch they brew in house is delicious. The peanut butter stout is also good, but sits like a steak dinner! read more

I went for the first time last night for my nephew's birthday. The service was excellent. The restaurant itself is a little hard to find on main st. In lexington behind some other shops at old mill creek. I had the brewpub burger....the best burger I have had in a very very long time. Hope to go back again very soon. Food and service have gone way, way downhill since the brewpub opened. Loved our first couple of visits last Spring/Summer, but every trip since has been worse than the one before it. Easter lunch there was the worst experience to date. Mimosas are $4, but served in a large wine glass and filled less than half way. The only champagne on the menu is a $5 grocery store bottle, which is fine by me, but don't charge $4 a drink for a dwarfy pour in a giant glass. Our server didn't know what 'sour beer' even meant when I asked if they had any, and the bartender scoffed when I asked her. It's a brewpub, for crying out loud, even if you don't offer one on tap invest in a can or bottle for variety's sake. And train your employees. My spinach salad was pathetic. The dish is a plate of spinach leaves, some candied pecan bits, and 4 slices of baked/poached seasoned apples. So odd, and really chintzy for a $9 dish. What about craisins, bleu or goat cheese, croutons, thinly sliced pears, ANYTHING?? There was less than a tablespoon of dressing involved, so the entire mess was flavorless. My mom got the fried cod and was equally disappointed- breading with no flavor and 'pub' fries that would be outdone by bagged freezer aisle potatoes. Total waste of money. Our server was inattentive and poorly trained, the expo delivering food brought our antipasto platter (complete with a scoop of plain, nearly-white diced tomatoes and cut strips of store bought provolone cheese slices) 60 seconds before returning with our entrees, and the food was crap top to bottom. And they were playing The Heartbreak Kid on most of their TVs? Great choice for the families dining with you on Easter Sunday, gang. Just had a leisurely Sunday lunch with my wife and I have to say it was very good. Great selection of beers both draft and bottle. We sat at the bar and split a crab cake appetizer, as good as I have had anywhere, would make a great dinner entrée with rice,veggies, and salad. They were Panko crusted and fluffy with lots of crab meat. I had a Caesar salad with blackened shrimp, and my wife had blackened chicken panini, with Cole slaw side. This is the second time we've visited here. The first time we had a great time, this time not so much. Their high gravity beer is good but they were very skimpy on the pour, and when we asked to be topped off the waiter said it was correct as is. We then noticed another waiter delivering the same beer to another table filled to the brim. Plus an 8 oz glass cost $6.50. It's been our experience that brewpubs usually charges a little less to try and promote their own beers. Then I spilled most of my beer, probably about 10-12 oz of it; and the waiter brought me about 1/2 oz to "replace" what I had spilled. He forgot to put in our toddler's order until after he delivered all the adult's food. Not good with a hungry toddler. Some of our food was ok (The Toga Wrap and sweet fries), but my Elvis Presley sandwich was just fair, my son's sandwich had two thin slices of turkey on it, my daughter-in-law's beer cheese soup was downright yucky. We will probably give it one more try, but we'll look for a different waiter or talk with the manager if we get stuck with the same one next time. read more

I will never go back to this place! the food was sub par to say the least. Ordered the steak medallions and wow that meat was so tough I wouldn't even take it home to feed to the four legged creatures. The flavor was not good. The stout demi glas was awful! and the sides oh good grief! the potatoes were tasteless and the mac and cheese was straight up Kraft out of the box with a few strands of cheese melted on top. we were in a large group and the general consensus was just not that good. Old Mill is a must go place to visit if you are around the Lexington area! Their menu has lots of delicious things to choose from and their beer menu is even better. We celebrated the 4th by having a late dinner there outside on the deck with our dog, a fantastic band, a great firework show! The staff is all very friendly and hardworking. Arrived at 9:30 on a Thursday night for my wife's birthday, acoustic music was playing and the atmosphere seemed very inviting. We were greeted and told to sit anywhere we liked. After 5 minutes or so a waitress approached the table, handed us the "late night menu" and asked if we wanted drinks. Sure, and ordered an IPA, Way off the Grid, I believe, brewed on site as we have met the brewer. He is very knowledgeable and we anticipated a great brew. We then ordered off the menu and awaited our brew. The beer we received was skunky. I play rugby and have drank beer from a smelly, game worn boot and this was worse. We inquired about the taste of the beverage and was told that once ordered, it couldn't be taken off the tab. HUH. I still believe that the beer was not the problem, but a faulty tap line,maybe not properly cleared from a previous brew, but who cares, the beer was bad, it was brewed here, and nothing could be done according to the wait staff. We talked to a manger, he took off 50%. Thanks, a beer we are not going to drink. We then tried a sample of the DIPA, liked it and ordered one. The food came out next, she crab soup which was excellent, bruschetta, which was not fresh but decent, and buffalo chicken dip. The buffalo chicken dip was covered in grease and did not taste good. It was way to hot, not to mention the tiny portion provided was $9.00! I have made this dip at home using Frank's Red Hot recipe and it was never this greasy! It also cost about 7 bucks for an entire crockpot. The manager came over and again punted, blaming the dips greasiness on the Frank's Red Hot! Frank's could probably sue for slander if it wasn't considered hearsay! I grew up in the south eating fried chicken and doughnuts, and when I say it was greasy, it was inedible! Long story short, high hopes were greeted with poor beer quality, poor food quality, and worse of all an inability by the managerial staff to recognize it, and take the proper corrective measures. We tried Old Mill Brew Pub this past weekend. They had a great beer selection. The fried green tomato appetizer was AMAZING! We finally got a table and ordered our entrees. There was a band playing that added to the great atmosphere. The building itself was beautiful. When my grilled pork chop arrived, it was undercooked. My boyfriend got the fish and chips, and compared it to Long John Silvers. The only time the waitress came back was to leave our check. She never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. read more

We went to Old Mill Brewpub for my birthday last Saturday and had a large party - 15 people. They had several other large parties that night and service did not suffer at all! Everyone got exactly what they ordered and raved about the food. Nehemiah was a fabulous server and made sure to bring everyone drink refills and take beer orders as soon as glasses were empty. We had my son's college graduation dinner here for 20 people. Kelly handle the reservation smoothly. Our table was ready when we arrived in a semi-private area. Chris, our waiter, was phenomenal! He kept the drinks coming and was very friendly and efficient. We had calamari, fried green tomatoes and loaded fries. All were delicious, but the calamari was outstanding. I had the fettuccine with chicken, my husband had the Cuban sandwich, and my son had the burger. Both were great. We topped it off with a sampling of desserts. Everything was very reasonably priced. I appreciated the gratuity not being automatically added to the check for a large party - we certainly tipped Chris more than 20%. I highly recommend The Old Mill Brewpub and will be back! read more

We love this place and go almost weekly. Their beer selection is awesome and their food is really good too. They even brew their own beers which rotate frequently and are usually really good. The atmosphere is relaxed and the building is super cool (an old mill that has been repurposed for shopping and dining). Everyone here is friendly and sometimes they have live music on the porch, which is really fun when the weather is nice. Really a fun place to go eat if you're in Lexington and like craft beer. read more

I've been here twice now. Once with my girlfriends (5 adults + 1 child) outside and once with my family (4 adults + 3 children) inside. With my girlfriends, service was a little bit slow and food was fine. With my family, they sat us in the (very bland) back room for large groups (we only took up about half of the table). Service was very slow. It took about 20 minutes just to get a bottle of beer. Our group ordered the shrimp & grits, eggplant parmesan, fried green tomatoes, Calamari, and a burger. The fried green tomatoes were good but both sets we ordered were room temperature upon arrival. The burger was reported to be good. The eggplant description was confusing, but it's basically eggplant parmesan in the middle of a pool of alfredo penne pasta. The eggplant parmesan was good the but the alfredo pasta was heavy and bland - I'd ask for a different side next time. The main issue overall was that the service was very slow and inattentive. It seemed like we were forgotten in the back. Normally I might talk to someone about these issues, but I didn't want to make the dinner stressful for my family and just let it go. I really love to eat and drink local but unfortunately this place has so far been disappointing. I'll probably give it at least one more try since there aren't a lot of brew pubs with the character of the mill. read more

I'd probably go with 3.5 - 4 stars based on food, but giving it 3 based on (lack of) smoking policy enforcement. Fries are nothing special. Chicken panini was quite good, quality bacon. My husband didn't find the meat in his French dip to have a lot of flavor but the au jus was good he said. It was nice out so I thought about sitting outside but as we walked up I could smell cigarette smoke coming from the patio so opted for a table indoors. From our table, I noticed a sign on the door heading into the patio that said no smoking allowed then said smoking only allowed after 9 pm. Well, it was just before 5:30 and I saw a table of about 5 ladies all smoking. So much for the no smoking rule. We thought this would be a good place to go to sit and eat outside on nice days, but now that I see smoking is obviously permitted I'm not going to this place with sitting outside in mind. I don't see why the no smoking in restaurants law doesn't apply to outdoors, but I know it doesn't so I can anticipate that, my thing is, don't put up a sign saying no smoking if it is in fact allowed. read more

Disappointed in the 35+ minutes it took to get our four burgers and it wasn't busy, most tables were empty. The meal itself was good. Then a waitress spilled a drink on me and kept walking to get where she was going with no apology. Another waitress, someone with a mop and the manager came to clean up, still no one apologized. No one seemed to notice that I was standing up with the back of my shirt and pants wet with a bloody Mary on it, they were more concerned with the clean up. After a couple minutes of me using napkins to try to dry my clothes someone handed me a towel with no apologies and the manager, in passing asked, "are you ok?", not really waiting for an answer. My meal was removed from the bill, which we waited for, and OUR waitress then apologized for the accident. Not a quality managed/customer service oriented restaurant. I work in the food industry and this was very disappointing. We've eaten there a few times previously but will not be returning after this incident. read more
