Old Mill Crab House was highly recommended to me by a co-worker of mine after asking where great seafood can be found. I Googled them at www.oldmillcrabhouse.com/ reviewed the menu http://www.oldmillcrabhouse.com/menu.php and decided it was a 2 1/2 hour trip that we needed to take and check them out. We set out on Sunday around 11:30am; sunny, 74 degrees with light traffic. As we turned off of the main road (50E), the scenery resembled that of Georgia back roads that were paved. There were miles of corn fields, grazing horses and beautifully landscaped properties on both sides of the road. If I had not programmed the restaurant into the GPS app I used, waze.com/ I would have thought we were lost or heading in the wrong direction. Finally arriving, we knew we were at the right location by the huge crab in front. We parked and waited until 3pm for them to open, after arriving at 2:30pm. As we entered, we were quickly seated and greeted by Shannon our waitress. Each table is covered with brown paper and a trash can for shells and other food debris. We studied the menu and asked Shannon questions about meals and drink. If you order "all you can eat snow or blue crabs, they cannot and I stress CANNOT be shared. Angel decided on all you can eat blue crabs and I ordered the snow crabs. Had no idea it would be this much food!Had no idea it would be this much food! Ok, so this is what is included with each AYCE (all you can eat) meal: Snow or Blue Crabs Fried chicken (your choice of white or dark meat) One ear of the sweetest white corn Fried or steamed shrimp, (steamed shrimp extra), clam strips The two orders are placed on a large tray and provided to you on the table. I almost became full looking at the amount of food that was brought to us. Unfortunately, we did not try to finish all and had to leave some behind. That's right no doggy bags :-( If you are hungry for seafood galore, plan to visit the Old Mill Crab House; get there early and wait in the parking lot if you have to. Angel and I took our time, ate what we could which took an hour and a half. When we were leaving the waiting area was filled with those waiting to be seated. On our next trip, we will order from the entree menu and take home what we can't finish. Overall, we were very pleased that our long trip to eat was worth it and looking forward to our return! Stopped by on the way home from Ocean City and Assateague beaches and it was a nice way to cap off our seaside outing. We opted for the indulgent mini feasts; SX went for the snow crab legs and I went for the blue crab. Their blue crab isn't steamed in the old bay seasonings, but rather is steamed and then dusted with old bay. This makes their crabs more tolerable to those with a mild palate. Each mini feasts include 2 pieces of fried chicken, hush puppies (they top theirs with powdered sugar), 2 ears of steamed corn, fried clams, and fried shrimp. I also upgraded/added my fried shrimp for steamed shrimp for an additional charge. Each table comes with it's own garbage can and the place is surprisingly cleaner than I had imagined. They only have wooden mallets for cracking here, as our server explained that people were taking home their metal ones. We left here with our bellies bustin' and a doggy bag home. Holy Crabs Batman! We found this place by chance, I was geocaching with friends across VA, DE, MD & NJ and we were looking for a seafood place on Day 2. This was the second choice as the first was more of a take-out place. The Yelp reviews were good, the pictures looked great and there was no wait! (PS they don't take reservations are weekends) After grabbing a geocache hidden near the parking lot and taking a pic with the giant crab outside my friend and I walked in to meet with our other friends that went in to get the table. Walking in the décor was cute, not as New England as I expected however most of my NE experience is the Cape, MA and RI. There is nothing fancy here but based upon the amount of full tables and the lobby as we walked out this place is obliviously a favorite. Sitting there you see mounds and mounds of crabs being piled up on the tables around you, no one in my party ordered the limitless crab option however two of them said they would have enjoyed it. For a starter I ordered hush puppies and upon delivery was a bit confused as they are served with powdered sugar, such a savory corn treat with the powdered sugar was not a favorite for me. My friends and I tried some with the powdered sugar but we afterwards picked out pieces with little to no sugar on them. They hush puppies were cooked perfectly, all corn meal meaning no bits of corn which is absolutely fine as I love them either way. They were moist and delicious. My meal was a single crab cake, fries and ear of corn. The crab cake was ok, it had LOTS of crab meat which I enjoyed, it was not overly breaded either however I am not sure what they use to make, maybe mayonnaise or another sauce that wasn't so great aside from that the ears of corn were over boiled, still eatable but not as crisp as my friend and I are used to when eating boiled corn. It does come boiled whole, in the husk which is great. I have friends that love seafood and if ever get them in this area I would totally come back here and try something different, maybe the endless crab! read more

Imagine. All you want is crab. Covered in old bay. And fresh corn with butter. You're on the eastern shore near Salisbury. Where to go?!?!? I asked a local and they didn't even hesitate. Now put it in yr gps and look for the HUGE crab out front and you'll know you're there! They have AYCE but they sell it by the dozen. Ask about the size of the crabs and then make your decision. The crab was so good. Just like it's supposed to be. The corn tasted like it was just picked and delivered to the table. Old bay everywhere and they give you more just in case!! Each table is equipped with their own garbage can. Awesome! Shells go in to the trash! More room for crab! Although i think some tables is a badge of honor to see how many shells you can pile up... impressive! Note: if you want to do AYCE be there at least two hours before closing. Old Mill crab house is a staple for us SoDel locals. I try to go at least once a year! I end up getting there half an hour before they open (because there's almost always a line in the summer) and then stay until closing (or a half hour before.) I'm glad they finally let their staff bring out certain apps for the "all you can eat" option and not the full boat load. I always felt so guilty growing up and throwing away half the apps cause I only wanted clam strips plus crabs. Believe me, they want to fill you up on the cheap stuff early so you don't eat too many crabs. *protip read more

Took family there May 30, 2021 who had never been. Worsted experience ever. We had an older waitress (Kim) who was not on her game that day. Waited 45 minutes to get any type of food and when she brought 1st round of crab legs to our table the table across asked could they have them and they were placed on top of the trash can at our table. Kim gave them our crab legs so had to wait another 15 minutes or more to get anything to eat. She had brought us 2 pictures of water and no cups to pour the water in. Other tables around us young waitress was hauling ass and bring their guess steaming hot seafood, corn and chicken. Had to wait to get our first serving of chicken and you could taste that the grease needed to be changed so chicken tasted burnt. Had to keep asking for other food and other tables didn't. I've eaten here twice and had a great experience each time. Both times the servers were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious! The first time I visited it was the last day of the 2017 season and although the restaurant was very busy, the server was friendly and we received our food quickly. Great food and great service. The prices are well worth the amount of food. I recommend everyone purchase something different and share. It makes for a good time and saves money in the end. The sweet tea is tasty which is hard to find in Delaware period. The service was great and the waitress was really attentive. The atmosphere is very relaxed with the interior more like a backyard hanging out eating dinner atmosphere. The location is a bit out there from where we drove from but it was well worth the drive. The exterior is picture worthy with a bull statue out front that captures the attention of all the kids waiting to hop on and have a photo shoot. The parking lot is all gravel near a garbage bin which stinks really bad in the summer time. We have about ten years' worth of family photos outside in front of the famous crab. This year, I was sadly disappointed. When we arrived, I was told that I was not allowed to bring my baby inside in his stroller. My baby cannot sit up on his own yet, has chronic lung disease and has special needs because of this. I informed the staff of it, but they said I had no choice but to ditch the Stroller. Needless to say, dinner was unenjoyable and I sat with a screaming baby on my lap for the entire time we were there. There was honestly plenty of room for his umbrella stroller in the place of their highchair that they brought out -which I could not use. Ok, we moved past this and tried to make the best of it taking turns walking the baby out to the waiting room to soothe him. My cousin then showed up after driving an hour and getting stuck in traffic. We informed the host of our headcount and were seated-and had an extra seat... but then when my cousin arrived, we were told we were only to be seated if everyone was present. I told the manager, who I requested at that point that I did not hear anyone mention it and she pointed to a sign that mentioned the policy hanging from the ceiling. I asked her nicely to please make an exception, especially after the baby incident and she refused, honestly with a bit of a cold tone in her voice. I informed her that I did not feel she was very accommodating and especially for such a large party. She replied "We have been MORE than accommodating". I honestly disagree. In business and life in general, if someone is unhappy, you work together to come to a resolution. You do not act cold to people and just carry on. The food was great, we were not given as much as usual though, with only one small tray of clam strips at the far end of a table of 12 when we ordered all you can eat, but I do understand the changes due to Covid. I also understand the need to adopt new practices to survice Covid such as the significant price increase. I did not have a problem with the price increase, but I did have a problem with the way we were treated. The manager should have offered some sort of resolution, a gift certificate or discount to entice us to come back. Because every single person in our party was very unhappy. We were in town for business trip and I had eaten here once 27 years ago. I checked and saw it was still in business so we made plans for supper. Long and short of it, the all you can eat is ok for those who want it but we got the chicken platter with clam strips, shrimp, corn on the cob, and hush puppies and took enough food home for another meal; and you can't do that with all you can eat. Our waitress was very helpful helping us decide what to get. The all you can eat stopped at 8 pm. The food is delicious, the place is clean, and the staff very friendly. The fried chicken is some of the best I've ever had. Like none I've had before. The coating is not too heavy and the meat is so flavorful and moist. They have a secret technique to cooking it. The only bad thing I can say is they are in Delmar Delaware and we live approximately 410 miles away. I am planning a trip up in late January 2019 and will be back. read more

Just went to the Old Mill with my family. What a DISAPPOINTMENT!!! The crabs we're pretty good however the rest of it was for the birds, especially the chicken which has always been delicious. The first batch the brought was very very dark as though it was leftover and fried again to warm it up. The next batch was just as bad. Real dark; however very dry. The third batch was just as bad. You picked up a piece (still very dark) and grease would spurt out. Not sure what was going on. Complaints got no response other than "they were sure the third batch was okay". I asked if we could at least get some kind of credit for the chicken --- guess what. We can't do that. Wish now we had took the time to go to The Red Roast or Phillips. We'll know better the next time. Would never recommend The Old Mill to anyone ever again. Nancy B I too, was once again, disappointed with The Old Mill in Delmar. I had swore never to return after my last visit, almost 4-5 years ago. I was extremely disappointed with that visit as well. I had a great experience at the Old Mill. Decided to make a stop here for nostalgia purposes as my grandparents brought me here more than two decades ago. Came in on a Monday evening at around 5pm, right when they opened, a good amount of other people had the same idea. Didn't wanna chance not getting a seat when we were passing through town... and they do not take reservations. Immediately seated and greeted by our great server, Liz. We warned Liz that we are not from the area and would need a crash course in how to open our crab... she was happy to oblige. Got an order of the snow crab platter and the blue crab platter, plenty of food for two. Liz brought over an additional blue crab and snow crab just to show us how to open each. She was patient with us and answered our questions. She noticed that my order of snow crab was not up to her standards so she had the kitchen prepare another order, truly outstanding service. Both the blue and snow crab was our favorite part, though we also found the fried shrimp and cocktail sauce delicious. Big shout out to Liz for showing us a great time and great service. Go for the all you can eat blue crab special which comes with corn on the cob, clam strips, fried shrimp, hush puppies, and fried chicken. The chicken is pretty damn good by itself. They play the game well by bringing the fried stuff early and distracting your stomach from the crabs, so don't go overboard on the appetizers. The crabs are hit or miss on weight, but they're pretty decent on average. If you don't like one, just toss it and get another. I don't even bother with the claws. If you're tacky like me, bring your own knife with a rounded point. Theirs are too pointy. Brush off the seasoning as well. The salt tearing up my lips has stopped me from eating more several times. I know beer and crabs go together like peas and carrots, but stay away from the beer because you won't be able to eat as much. It's expensive (duh) and carbonated as hell. The setting is a little spartan for some. It's just your group, the food, some paper towels, your drinks, squeeze butter, and brown paper on the table. Just want to say that I have not been there so this review is of my phone experience that I just had. My husband and I eat just about anything, but our toddler has many restrictions. Rather me demand chefs to make something off of their menu, I thought I'd pack a little dinner for our baby and head over to try old mill. I called to ask if it would be an issue to to bring food for my baby since she is ovo vegetarian. (Only eats eggs and plants) They said they would not allow outside food to come in. How very disappointing. I never thought a restaurant would be so unreasonable.... It's their choice, but I feel they should have been accommodating. We were looking forward to this place for a while. *** I did state that she has a food restriction to the girl who answered the phone. Which is why I asked if I could bring a little food for my 23 month old that is vegan. (Squash and avocado) I understand your regulations, however I've had many years of experience in the restaurant business. I've never heard of a restaurant not allowing parents bring food their baby (baby food or have have you) if they can't eat off of their menu. Thank you for your response. Warning: The ONLY thing worth getting here is the all-you-can-eat crab. If you get a platter or crabcakes you will be paying way too much for way too little. And the platters aren't anything special. My wife and I were driving up through Delmarva and decided we wanted/needed crabs, so while she drove I started searching for somewhere that was close to our route. We found a couple places that looked promising, but decided to go with the Old Mill. It's just off of Route 13, so was only a minor diversion from our route... and it was well worth it. I guess it could be described as a bit pricey, but for the massive amount of phenomenal food we had, I'd say we more than got our money's worth. The crabs were great, I could have made a meal of the fried chicken alone, and the hush puppies were unreal. (anything that's served under so much powdered sugar that it looks like a winter scene gets my vote) Service, I honestly don't remember, I'm pretty sure they got us what we needed when we needed it, other than that it's not what I remember. What's the most telling about this place is that since we were there that one time, my wife keeps coming up with reasons to drive back down to that area so we can have dinner there again. (we're an hour north of Philadelphia, 3 hours from this place) Haven't done it yet... but we will. read more

The 2 stars are for the last time I was there... I've been to this Old Mill 3 or 4 times. The first few times were fine, but the last was bad... The last time I was there was in March, before crab season, so perhaps that's why we had such a bad experience. In short, the crabs were awful. They were small, and several of them were overdone. Let's put it this way -- I made most of my meal out of the fried shrimp that come with the dinner. This place was a bit hard to find, in addition to the gps acting up. The establishment was located at a Y intersection so we found it driving around the area. As soon as we got out of the car, you can smell the seafood spices permeating the parking lot, had we been driving with the windows down, we would have probably found it by scent. There were quite a few patrons in the establishment but we were seated immediately for a party of 6, it was around dinnertime on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated in a booth that comfortably sat 4 so we asked to be seated somewhere else. The server moved us to the table adjacent to the booths with a little reluctance; kinda weird especially since one of the guys in our party of six is 5'7" and about 270. No way he would fit in a booth with 2 others. Our drinks came immediately after we were seated and within ten minutes, my friend's all you can eat platter came out. (We each ordered individual platters except for my bud who ordered the all you can eat shrimp, fried chicken and hush puppies). We waited almost 35 minutes for our individual platters, and our friend who started eating was nearly done with his first round before we even started. I guess the all you can eat people get to eat first because everything is already pre-prepared. As we sat there longing for food, we watched our server continue to serve the table next to us, twice filling their tables with extra crabs, corn, and hush puppies. She checked on us once after that but didn't bother to ask if we needed refills for our drinks. I guess I have a lot to say about the service because there wasn't really any. Our food came eventually and I asked for some hot sauce. Minutes later, I was dismayed to receive 4 tear packets of hot sauce instead of a bottle or small container. What a major fail. Placing the 4 packets of sauce in a french-fry paper boat didn't make up for the fail. You always have to have some kind of hot sauce. The only reason I am rating this place with 3 stars is because the food was flavorful. Not good, or delicious, but flavorful. Our platters were highly overpriced (all over 22), my buddy's all you can eat chicken was almost 20 bucks! 40 bucks for all you can eat crabs is a bit much especially since you can buy a bushel for almost that. As an establishment that uses paper boats for their hush puppies and clam strips and fries, a cardboard table cloth as a serving area for the crabs (they were just heaped on there), and a garbage can to the side, one would think the savings on utensils, plates and cups would offset the cost of their food. Not so. I will need to add that my ribs and crab cake were tasty but unfortunately, I won't be going back there again. Not unless it's the last place in the east coast that serves all you can eat blue claws. Oh and by the way, there are no options for blueclaws in the shell. They didn't serve us blueclaws a la carte, it was all or nothing. They said they don't do that. Actually, I changed my mind and am gonna give it 2 stars for our 185 dollar dinner bill for 6 people, and none of us except one had all you can eat chicken. read more

The one time I went to Old Mill was good--and it was the first time I ate Maryland blue crab. Now, I'm addicted. Only downside is I could tell this place was very touristy--not many locals were eating here. And I felt a bit rushed. If you eat here, get the all-you-can-eat-crab.
