They had several tables to sit at outside and 2-4 inside (though very few people were in there). The fish was really fresh and nicely fried- which is great because it was quite expensive at $35/plate with 3 hunks of fish and French fries. The fries were plentiful and also nicely fried. They tossed in a second coleslaw for us because we originally ordered one to share, which was generous. The chowder was very creamy and thick, with good chunks of potato and clam within. The service here from the staff is absolutely unmatched by anywhere else we've eaten on the coast so far. The woman working the counter was so personable and kind. Not only did she bring out a crab melt cut up into chunks to give people samples while we waited in line, but she also gave us a free sample of the clam chowder when we said we'd never tried it before. On top of the amazing service, the portion sizes you get here are also the best we've run into. I got the cod fish and chips and was served 6 pieces of fish for the same price as other establishments that only give you 2 pieces. We also got the popcorn shrimp and chips and were amazed by the quantity of food we were served. I have heard nonstop raving about this fresh caught restaurant, so I had to go give it a try! The first thing I noticed, was the pricing... it was quite up there. My boyfriend ordered the halibut fish and chips which was $35 and I ordered the chicken and chips and clam chowder which was $29 plus tip. I was a bit nervous for the seating since they all looked filled, but there is a quick turn around on tables. The food arrived quickly after ordering and sitting down, the food was piping hot. The halibut tasted super fresh, but the crust was lacking a lot of flavor. My chicken was tender and more flavorful than the fish. They give you a lot of food though, so you should be able to split everything! The clam chowder was super thick and tasty, with a great amount of clams. Although the food was fresh, I can't say we will come here again just because of the price. It was more of a one and done situation. But I do urge everyone to try it once! read more

Best part of this meal was the Cole slaw and French fries. Chowder was pasty with little flavor and cod fish was ok. Was not oily but batter and fish did not have much flavor. The tarter sauce helped. House flies in the small front room did not help the ambiance and we ate outside on the wet benches instead. Tucked back a bit off the main drag is this magical smokehouse. It doesn't look like much from the outside or the inside really but it's fantastic. My husband and I do not like coleslaw. I'm 40. We moved to Tillamook a few months ago, and are trying out all the local places. The first time we came here, it was the best fish (halibut fish & chips) we'd ever had! It was SO good, (crispy, hot, flaky, best batter!) that we came back the next day to have more! AND IT WAS DELICIOUS. A week or two later, we brought my bestie (here visiting) to try it out. IT WAS TERRIBLE. The halibut was ok, the batter was thin, not crispy, it was greasy and wiggly and not at ALL like the first 2 times we came. And it was $29 per order! We paid $100 for a horrible meal. I don't mind a rickety old shack, the staff is very pleasant, but the food is the thing! Such a disappointment. As most reviews will state, this place is an absolute hole in the wall but across the street from the most famous tourist attraction. I think because there's not much to do in Tillamook they get away with it looking so incredibly ghetto inside and out. However, I still recommend coming here. We had AMAZING smoked salmon (Garlic & pepper), fries with fry sauce, clam chowder, and an incredible crab melt. The food was amazing, seriously I had to take a nap after. Again, it's a ghetto looking place for sure... they should consider upgrading the building so it doesn't look like a school portable... it's weird but the food makes it worth it. We must have caught this place on an off day--though based on our experience, I'm not sure how it earned the praise we've heard. I get that these "hole-in-the-wall" places are popular amongst the Portland tourists. But these place looked like a tweekers front yard. I parked next to a literal camper. When I got out of the rig, I could hear someone in the camper hacking up a lung. Debris strewn about. From the moment we walked in, it was a mess. We had to climb over a mountain of soda deliveries just to reach the counter. While we waited in line, the young man taking orders spent the entire time complaining to a coworker. He repeatedly stopped mid-order to chat with the cook about topics that had nothing to do with work. Meanwhile, the older boss-woman was loudly scolding the younger staff for not calling the cook "sir"--all while customers were standing right there. When our food finally came out, it was flat-out bad. The fish and chips were limp and greasy with zero crunch. Part of our order was missing, and when I brought it up, the cashier argued with me and insisted I was wrong--until he checked his own notes and realized I wasn't. As a final touch, when I asked for lemons, the cashier grabbed them with his bare hands and dropped them into a cup. No gloves, no tongs--just straight from hand to food to trash. Between the unprofessional staff, poor service, and low-quality food, this visit was a complete letdown. read more

Point 3) The salmon and chips were excellent with good-sized pieces of fish. They are known for their quality seafood. Please note that the chips (fries) are not what Old Oregon Smokehouse is known for. Point 4) Unpaved parking lot can get muddy when it rains. Point 5) They can and do run out of some menu items. The best thing we ate at Old Oregon Smokehouse was their fish 'n chips (cod). The batter was light and tasty, and the fish tasted fresh and was impressively prepared. The fries were fairly limp and on the soggy side. We also shared a bowl of pretty good clam chowder. What might have made this a four-star review was a chance to try their crab cakes, which other reviewers rave about, and the reason we came to Old Oregon Smokehouse that day. We ate here several times four years ago and loved it. Tried again last night. It'll do. Is it great? No. Is it bad? No. It's a beach shack for seafood. You can get baskets of deep fried seafood and fries. Our clam strips were okay, not much flavor. The fries are below average. There's no indoor seating. Eat on the deck or take your food "home." They do not serve alcohol. You cannot BYOB. The staff were friendly and put out our order quickly. So, yeah, this casual seafood place hits the spot. I'm so glad we decided to give it a go, the food was very good. We shared a medium serving of clam chowder and fish (halibut) and chips, and one serving each of coleslaw. The halibut was the perfectly cooked, coleslaw fresh and light. The clam chowder is the best we had in our trip - 34 of 40 days road-trip and many chowders. Creamy and light (not heavy on the cornstarch), balanced spices, good on the pepper. The people at Old Oregon were very nice, the assistant manager came to talk to us and told us about their restaurant. Bonus: across from Tillamook creamery, we cross the street for dessert. Food was Oregon Coast good! Chowder was very good, just short of great, needed a bit more butter and maybe thicker broth with creamy potatoes. Nice that they serve Ling (black) cod fish and chips, the batter on the fish was very good and the only complaint was the saltiness, but I am notoriously critical of salted food, having avoided excessive salt most of my life (ling cod is about an all time fav fish). The french fries were EXCELLENT, obviously fresh cut, the right amount of crisp and salt and soft inside! Love their tartar sauce, tastes like an original, would use on everything!
