    Grilled cheese and tomato soup

I review restaurants with my OAT method: Overall Experience - The review strongly reflects the food court. The self guided tour and cheese tasting experience were perfect! It was valuable to learn about the amount of work that goes into to creating great quality dairy products. I will definitely continue to support a business that strives to sustain the farmers that actually produce the products. On my visit, I learned, Tillamook is a farmer owned cooperative that formed over 100 years ago. Appearance - The Tillamook cafe was a large dining hall with an ice cream counter and a food counter. Before ordering food we explored the extensive bottled drink section. There was also a gift shop with all types of local products. When we made our way over to order food, I took a look at the few menu options they had. Simple, but the basics were covered. Taste - My husband and I ordered the grilled cheese along with a side of fried cheese curds. The food was not nearly as exciting as the atmosphere of the place. The grilled cheese was cooked well, however the bread left much to be desired. It must have spent too much time on the grill and burnt the bread. The cheese curds did not seem fresh

Tillamook is locally made in Oregon and a must-stop when visiting. Although I thought it was overrated, it's something to do at least once. There is a Tillamook Country Smoker down the street, which is a small beef jerky outlet shop, and then there's the highly visited Tillamook Creamery, where they make the cheese and ice cream. The jerky outlet was awesome with really affordable prices and a variety of flavors, including tons of sugar-free options. Tillamook Creamery, on the other hand, was hectic. Lines everywhere, but managed well with all their signage and employees directing you where to go. The parking lot was huge and crowded, but easy to find a spot as people came and went. Food 2/5* On first glance, everything looked good. I planned to get so many things, but they ran out of grilled cheese sandwiches and when I saw them cutting up the deep dish pizza and it was soft, not crispy, I changed my mind on the pizza. The burger was tiny and you couldn't really taste the sharp white cheddar at all. The mac and cheese, also bland. The random sprinkle of crushed pretzels on top did not work at all - too chunky, hard, and did nothing to enhance the mac and cheese. The only dish that was good with flavor were the cheese curds. Dipped in spicy ranch, it was a great pairing. Self-Guided Tour & Samples 5/5* The highlight was the self-guided tour upstairs that allowed you to look into the factory below. On the way out was a sampling station, where they had 4 choices of packaged cheese snacks to sample, plus whatever special they had. They were so generous, with no limit to how many you wanted to sample. The best was the smoked black pepper white cheddar. Dog Friendly 3/5* They also had a store inside selling all their goodies and merchandise, including for dogs! Although the front had a huge lawn allowing dogs, it was inconvenient that dogs weren't allowed inside. There were two lines inside, one for hot food and the super long line for ice cream. There's also another line outside for just ice cream only and small snacks. It would've been nice if there was a line for hot food outside so those with dogs could stay together. Overall it was a good experience, but a one and done kinda thing.

Udderly ridiculous art. I loved it.

Date of visit: May 10, 2026 If you're visiting Portland, this is a bit of a drive, and can be harrowing for those that are not a fan of heights, but it is worth the trip to see their impressive operation and try some amazing dairy products. I was looking forward to the ice cream all day and it definitely didn't disappoint! I had a Salty Caramel Pretzel shake and it was quite possibly the highlight of the entire trip to Oregon! We did the self-guided tour and for the low low price of free 99, it was amazing. The large windows and clear explanation made it easy to follow the process from start to finish; can't say I've ever seen 40 pound blocks of cheese before! Before the ice cream, we split the grilled cheese and mac and cheese, both being very good. The fries that accompanied the sandwich though, were unremarkable. Why they don't serve them as cheese fries I will never understand. I wanted to go five stars here but the staff could be better. It's great that they seem to hire so much local youth, but there didn't seem to be anyone supervising or helping direct traffic, resulting in the indoor ice cream line being 15 people deep and the outside line being empty, with staff just standing around talking about their relationship woes (this I tell you from firsthand experience) instead of helping out in other places where it's needed. The cashier in the gift shop seemed to be personally offended that we were keeping her from her Instagram...

Good for kids, esp. the cheese tour and cheese sample. Must have their ice creams. We had the June special German chocolate cake and loved it. Pro tip - there are 4 ice cream counters - find the one with the shortest line

Super fun day trip from Portland! Loved all the food options (both ice cream and cheese). We tried pretty much everything and I'd say the cheese curds and mac and cheese are a can't miss, the pizza you can't miss if you love (or haven't yet tried) Detroit style, but the grilled cheese and the burger are pretty standard fare. Service moved very quickly especially for the amount of people there. The gift shop is really fun and you can take home some really great cheeses. If you are coming from out of town I recommend coming early in your trip so you can bring some home, tragically none of us could buy the rarer cheeses due to flights the next day. One thing I would have loved more of was more information/experiences in the cheese making process included in the free self-guided tour, it focuses more on packaging. I love to see machinery and the actual 'how it's made', but unfortunately didn't have time for the paid tour. Overall though, fun place and worth a stop! P.S. pro-tip: they DO have lactaid in the gift shop.

I got the white chocolate raspberry ice cream and it was worth the drive here. It was interesting learning more about the factory and how they pay attention to quality assurance. My only concern is how pricy the ice cream and the food is. Also it was crowded when I came but it's still great and the staff were friendly.

Tillamook Creamery, one of Oregon's hugest attractions. Worth it for the food? Absolutely no. 3 Star food at best. Worth it for the ice cream? Absolutely YES. I'm not a big cheese or dairy person. It just always so heavy and makes me feel lethargic afterwards. But with the ice cream and all the wonderful different flavors, you get none of that dairy heaviness, nor sticky mouth etc. Its just made differently and tastes differently in the best way. Absolutely going to be on the list to re-visit whenever near again. The facility itself is kinda cool, walk upstairs and you get to see the process of events on how milk to cheese is made, the slicing, the QA, the packaging with education around how each step is done with signage for you to read. I'm not sure how the workers doing all the supply chain work could stand it though as I was getting a bit nauseous looking at SO MUCH CHEESE, but perhaps they are true lovers of cheese so that could be it. Alot of cool merch in the shop, jams apparels, ice cream, cheese, and a whole ton of stuff to buy for the road trip. Everything there is also clean, bright, and decently organized. So glad we made the stop! Ice Creammmmmmmmmmmmmm, the right way.

Drove from Washington to visit the Tillamook creamery. Loved walking around learning the history and tasting the cheeses. Stopped at the food area and ordered the cheese and pepperoni pizza. It was fresh and tasty. The staff very friendly. Ofcourse had to get the ice cream, got the chocolate hazelnut and salted caramel shake. Overall fun drive to Oregon and back to Washington day trip.

What a fun place and visit on our Coastal Oregon trip. Its a lovely 2 floor building with the cheese making process and samples on the 2nd floor and a shop and food on the 1st floor. The cheese making was explained very simply yet with great details and the samples were yum. My favorite was the cheddar. There are food options like Mac n cheese and pizza and an ice cream counter. We got the 3 flavor sampler-oregon strawberry, marionberry pie and the waffle cone bits. It all tasted great!

    Brandt A.

Update: I have gone back to Tillamook and they are now doing no samples. Even worse, I don't understand how this is such an issue for such a big company

Butter pecan, Oregon strawberry, Marionberry pie
    Iris H.

The overall experience was very touristy. There was a short self guided tour but you didn't get to see the cheese getting made, only how it was packaged. There are more tours you can pay for. We got a flight of the ice cream flavors but when asking to sample before we chose them, we were told they can only give us one sample each. It felt a little stingy considering how big the company is. The Oregon strawberry and Marion berry pie were our favorites. The strawberry and crème was sold out sadly. We thought there would be more unique flavors but they were all pretty typical.

The town of Tillamook is a beautiful scenic, hour-long drive from Lincoln City. I wanted to arrive early to avoid crowds. My first impression upon entering the complex was that this was a first-rate establishment! The car park, the building, the presentation of historic artifacts, the viewing gallery, and the gift shop were all quality. The viewing gallery is on the second floor and they have an elevator, thus ADA compliant. We did not dine at Tillamook, so I cannot speak to the food. The cheese samples were ample, and they were delicious! Tillamook offers self-guided tours or premium experiences for early arrival tours and tastings. I'm kicking myself for not planning in advance, as I would have indulged in the premium experience. I am in the area the first week of June, so this may not be an issue in the winter. The self guided tours is what you make of it. They provide an app to download and walk you through the process. We really enjoyed our visit to the creamery! The gift shop is filled with Tillamook products along with loads of local fare, and typical gifts. Well worth the time!

Yes we are tourists and YES it's an amazing spot to visit. This museum/restaurant was so well done; it didn't feel too crowded even though there were a good amount of people. The self-guided tour is nicely set up and we never felt overcrowded or rushed. The restaurant is amazing and the ice cream line went quick. Lots of fun for kids and adults alike. Would definitely go back!

    Maybe, just the old ones.

    Is there RV parking?

Yes there is, in a separate lot.

Food is available during all operating hrs. To go only. There are separate lines for food, ice cream and entrance to the center. Food and ice cream lines move much faster.

    Yes - normal hours
