The parking does get full fast on the weekend, but it's not hard to find parking on the street. The whole vibe gives me a wild Wild West atmosphere and in my opinion, it's pretty darn cool! During the day, they have outdoor seating. You seat yourself and order from the counter which is different than I remember it from 4 years ago. I was happy to learn that they have a coffee shop I can get my iced vanilla latte from and it turned out to be soooo good. We got our order and my steak and eggs was missing a steak , but they fixed it right away for an additional +5 minutes. I got mine medium done. The potatoes were great, it was so tasty! However, I almost died from the steak, I literally choked LOL and my husband almost done an emergency response on me. Luckily I was able to cough it out but the steak was pretty tough. I wonder if it it's because they had to remake it. I'm sure my experience is one of the odd ones, I'll still come back but I'll probably never order the steak again. We ordered our steaks medium well, they came out very well done. They were tough. I'm not one to complain so we took it as is. Baked potato wasn't fully cooked. Ceasar salad was fine. Spent $140 for two steaks, two potatoes and a salad... pricing is pretty out there. Also, no Noodle bake on Sundays. This was my first visit to Old Place. You wait in line to order then find a place to sit. The recommendation was the steak sandwich. My reason for 3 stars partly has to do with the wait time in line. We waited for about 40 min and the line was even to long. Then after you order it's another wait for your food. I did order the steak sandwich med rare. I was not impressed with the sandwich. It was over cooked and the potatoes wedges over seasoned. I paid $15 for the order of cinnamon rolls and I would not recommend ordering them the taste to cost is a waste of money. All I had on it was try tip onions, and an aïoli, and it was pretty mitts to be honest Bread, toast bread, and not particularly flavorful. Sandwich basically fell apart in my hand as I was eating it. It was disappointing ting that they had an 18 percent gratuity automatically applied when all they did was hand out a buzzer and you pick up your food at the window. No other service. I finally got a chance to try this place out. It was pretty cool. The whole area is beautiful and it makes you feel like if you are in a western. There is plenty of outside seating so there is no problem finding a spot to enjoy your meal. If you want to eat indoors, try to get a reservation. Or you can eat at the bar. My husband saw an article about Old Place online and we knew we had to make the 100 mile trek over! It's a very pretty place, chill with a good vibe. It took us a few minutes to walk around and figure out what to do. We were too early to eat inside so we ordered at the window. We had a sirloin steak with baked potato and salad, steak sandwich, and pasta bake. And of course manmosas. The steak sandwich was very good. Meat was good quality and cooked perfectly. All the flavors in the sandwich came together nicely. The potato wedges are good, but super seasoned. The food was luke warm. My husband was pretty bummed with his sirloin and potato. It clearly sat for awhile because the potato was cold in the middle and the meat was not hot. Beyond that, the meat was over seasoned. It was a shame to pay so much money and receive our food in togo boxes, with mine luke warm and his bordering on cold. The pasta bake was hot. The flavor was one of those things where the first couple bites are heaven, but subsequent bites become too rich. All in all, we may go back if we're in the area and we have a reservation in the restaurant. To pay so much for takeout is ridiculous. I have to say I didn't really look up this restaurant. We ordered from here because we reserved a private tasting from Cornell Winery and part of the tasting they will bring your food to you. Nice huh? It's not far away but still nice to be able to order food ahead of time. Sit enjoy the wine while waiting for the dinner. The Old Place is so amazing. I really love that we were so lucky to have been given a tour of the place. There was still no indoor seating but because the person who was hosting our private wine tasting used to work there they didn't mind at all. He opened a door to their what was an old mailroom. Wowzers the place really looked old. Then we were toured inside the restaurant, it is super tiny. I didn't realize how small the place is compared to the pictures. Outside he continued the tour and labeled each building. Storage space and the owner's office. There were actually new buildings but they built it to match the rest of the place you wouldn't have know it was not apart of the original buildings. I'm just in awe of how well thought out the place was. Alright enough about how relaxing and woodsy, rustic, this place is. Generally there's a small window where you would order your food. Right around dinner time the long was pretty long, we were happy that we had our food already. We ordered their rib eye. Look at that char! Can you believe how perfect they made this look? I do like that they cut it up for us. Generally I prefer to cut up my own meat however since they give 'to go' forks and knives it's a bit easier that the rib eye was already cut up. Surprisingly it was tender but soft so we didn't have a hard time chewing. I definitely was enjoying every single bite. The meat was cooked perfectly to our liking. I definitely regret eat the cheese board at Cornells as that has gotten me filled out. The bread, omgosh, who would have thought grill bread could be this good. Came here for brunch one fall morning and was surprised that this place exists! Nestled on Mulholland, this rustic gem serves up delicious food and an incredible ambiance. Got the steak and eggs oak grilled sirloin, which came with 2 eggs, a bunch of tasty potato wedges and your choice of toast. The meal was super hearty, and easily shareable with 2 people. The steak was cooked to perfection as were the eggs, the potato wedges were well seasoned and plentiful. Be sure to take a stroll around the property after your meal, as there are many nooks and crannies and details to see. The store at the front has a lot of fun things to see and possibly purchase -- definitely check it out! You'll want to get there early as the later it gets the more folks arrive and parking, while abundant, could get a little tricky. Finally made it here by 4:30pm on Hallow's Eve. As we turned onto the bridge, that rustic chic of what Old Place is put a smile on my face and the aroma of smoked woods and meats made my tummy rumble. As mentioned on their website, Old Place is OPEN but for takeout only. Yet, they encourage patrons to sit down and enjoy their meal at their outdoor patio. When I walked up to the order window, I asked if it was dinner only and the cashier mentioned we could order from lunch & dinner. I picked the steak sandwich and when it came time to indulge... I had no regrets. We know it can be a serious hit & miss when ordering a steak sandwich. Like, besides the smoke factor- could it be dry? Here... NOT the case. I desired a medium steak, and that's exactly what I got. NEVER in my life have I ate a steak sandwich like I have here! My sirloin was sliced into thick strips, (juicy & tender), with grilled onion, and toasted sourdough. Although the menu says blue cheese aioli, I opted for garlic spread. And the potato wedges are mere huge halves (OK- thick quartered chunks) seasoned with Old Bay or something. I hate to give this gem a glowing review because it's already too popular. However, I've been here five or six times and it's always spot on. The wood fired meat and the baked potatoes can't be found anywhere else that I know of. The place feels like a true getaway from the crowds in the city. Even when it's busy, the way the tables are setup it feels like a private picnic. You come to the Old Place for the food and the getaway. You visit the shop next door for the wine selection of the area and the trinkets. Weekends can be super busy so getting a table can be a problem depending on the day. If you come during the week, I've never had any issue with parking in the lot or getting a table. read more

If I could only do less than one star, we went there for dinner on Saturday night paid $49 for a plate of dry chicken that apparently can be cooked in less than four minutes as once I ordered it was in front of me My potato was sitting so long. It was potato soup. It was one of the most appetizing, unappealing meals I've had in a long time. Not to mention the warm drinks the manmosa was served warm I've never been to a restaurant where the service was so rushed. Arrived at 5 PM in my car going home by 5:49. Although I've never taken advantage, the outdoor seating is spread across the property, and if you think there are no seats, keep looking because there are a lot of hidden nooks that you wouldn't expect. I usually show up on Thursday or Friday since my favorite window-girl Christina is working, and it's a little less hectic than it would be on the weekend. The only letdown is I miss out on Old Truck (their lattes are pretty darn good), and the possibility of purchasing another Old Place bandana. Playing it safe, I stick with either their Caesar salad (they do it REALLY good here, and they don't mess around with their croutons) or my default, the reliable (huge) baked potato. At first, they had the toppings on the side, but now they do it themselves, and they do it well. They certainly don't skimp on the bacon which I appreciate. Looking ahead, I'd like to try their Noodle Bake, but they only serve this when they were still operating normally (meaning, indoors). It might be a while before that happens, but for now, I enjoy getting my favorite foods to go. read more

You can shop: jewelry, art, clothes, hats, vintage, awesome knick knacks. They offer live music on certain nights. This place has so much history... "Old place began on Tom Runyon's train ride out West to join the rest of the Runyon Clan who had made the journey from New York. Tucked away in the Santa Monica mountains is The Old Place (which used to be a post office). Vibes were amazing; the place felt rustic and western. You order on the right side at the window. Unfortunately everything is packed in to-go boxes rather than actual dishes and cutlery, but this means you can walk over next door to the winery and enjoy a tasting or glass while you eat. My BF and I ordered the breakfast burrito and steak and eggs breakfast, respectively. Burrito was massive and came with tasty salsa. Not spicy, but they also gave us Tapatio packets. My steak was cooked perfectly (we requested medium rare). It was so flavorful and we cut it easily with the plastic knife provided. The potato wedges were amazing!! So flavorful and cooked to perfection. We opted to eat on the property and were able to snag a table on the covered front patio, overlooking the road. Great for people and car watching. Try to come before noon and you should have no problem with the service or finding a table, although you can always wait and get a table first at the winery next door. We love this place. The Grilled Cheese Sandwich with pork belly bacon is amazing. We also get the 18oz Ribeye and baked potato. There is an indoor seating option but we enjoy finding a table outside. It's a bit pricey but the service is excellent and the food is worth every penny. I was lucky to have the best beef stew in my opinion. If it's available I always take a bowl home for lunch the next day. I recommend bringing a knife and fork if ordering the Ribeye. I ordered the BLT expecting a normal BLT with some kind of flare, but was brought was a grilled ham sandwich with the ham being 1/2 thick and tough. I still dream about their BLT. Stopped here after a hike, famished. Didn't know this place existed. So happy when we left. Months later, we take our 25 year old son on same hike and I just rave about the BLT during the whole hike. After the hike, we map the directions only to find it was closed that day. Also, apparently you are expected to clean up yourself, which is why tables aren't clean. They add an 18% mandatory gratuity to every order for the service... you provide yourself. Ambiance: picnic style table and chairs on ranch property. We went for lunch so we were sitting outside and we were disappointed the tables and chairs were dirty so that made it unappealing. I ordered the BLT for $24 and what I received was appalling. The bacon was not bacon. It was the thickest chunks of fat you've ever seen that was burnt on the outside and completely raw.
