I ate here tonight with my boyfriend and his family for his step-dad's birthday, and felt compelled to write about our great experience! First of all, what really stood out to me was how this restaurant doesn't blast their music. It's very low and quiet, meaning you can actually hear people talk to you. I can't stand a loud restaurant. We were taken care of by Adam, who was very knowledgeable about the menu and thoroughly explained everything. He made good suggestions when some of us were struggling to make a decision. My boyfriend's step-dad did not want a big deal made out of his birthday and declined dessert, but Adam very sweetly brought over a fried banana with a candle in it and lit it at the table so he could make a wish. I thought it was a very nice touch! He also brought a side of sweetened condensed milk (I believe), and a side of chocolate sauce. All of the food was good too. I wasn't in the mood for meat so I just did the market table. I won't lie, I am pretty phobic of germs and hate buffet style/tongs that everyone touches, but this is the one place I make an exception for! I am a huge fan of the citrus chicken salad! read more

I love the original in LA but this is my # 2 compared to all the other locations very nice inside and an even a covered outdoor dinning portion. Ran in for dinner , full experience. They were very busy that night , wasn't sure what type of service we would get. But Luckily we were surprised had a great server name Tyler take over for someone and what I thought would be an average dinning experience turned into a great one which is the standard I've become accustomed to from FOGO. Went on a week night after a Costco run, figuring too late to start cooking dinner at 6:30. The restaurant had fewer patrons versus a Friday or weekend. The salad bar selection and cuts of meats did not disappoint. It was an outstanding experience with wonderful dishes and even better service. Someone who stood out was Miguel who constantly would ask our preference of next and additional meats, cheeses, pineapple, etc. Everything was incredibly delicious, our drinks were refilled which very nice to have done without request. Made a reservation for a late lunch to celebrate Mother's Day a day early to beat the crowd and typically long service time. There was no hostess to greet us when we arrived, because apparently she was also bussing tables. They did not have anyone else. When she finally came to greet us, she was very polite and friendly. She said our table will be ready soon, so she left to clear our table. While we were waiting for our table to be ready, I went towards the restroom to wash my hands. On the way, I saw a male manager standing to the side of the bar area talking, along with a female manager comfortably drinking a cup of cappuccino. Once seated, a nice lady came to take our drink and food orders. Unfortunately, the entrees took forever to come and they all came at different times. Keep in mind we came in at 2pm when the dining room was clearing out. However, the kitchen apparently was still backed up. We had a young kid (my son) in our party, who had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for a cheeseburger (over 30 minutes). My mother-in-law waited for her salmon over 40 minutes, and it wasn't worth it, because it was overcooked. My daughter had to wait over an hour for a tofu plate! Before they all the entrees arrived, I had to ask the waitress for an update as opposed to her letting us know. We were offered complimentary fried bananas that were soggy instead of having that crispy outer shell because of the crystallized sugar. As for the meat that goes around, there was basically only one server going around at any given time. On some occasions it might have been 2 of them. Kind of ridiculous for a Brazilian steakhouse. I will say the meat servers were friendly and polite. The other positives: the filet was tender, the ribeye was flavorful, the bacon wrapped chicken was fine (mostly because you can't go wrong with anything that has bacon), the pork sausage was ok. They did keep clearing our plates when we were done with them. The salad bar was just okay. I feel like the dinner version has better options and varieties. There was supposed to be an omelette station but there was no one manning it the entire 2 plus hours that we were there. We had to keep asking for water refills. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks. To add to what was already a frustrating experience, when our waitress came near the end of our meal, we asked for to-go containers so we can order some desserts. She never came back. Perhaps she went on a break which is fine, but it is customary that you tell your customers and another staff member should cover for you. We patiently waited without complaint, but annoyed that almost 30 minutes past before another server walked by to ask how we were doing. At that point I was not in a good mood and expressed it in my tone. To his credit he got us what we asked for (to-go boxes, bill, and bag), and when he did come with those things our regular waitress all of a sudden showed up with him. No apologies. I have to note that before the young man came to check on us, the same lady manager I mentioned earlier walked past us twice looking around never acknowledging which is what you would expect from a manager doing their job. I point this out, because the root cause clearly lies with ineffective managers who don't do or don't know how to perform their job. When we first asked our lady server we needed to-go boxes, we were excited to checkout the dessert menu. After that horrible experience, we just wanted the bill and leave. We had a large part of 10 and we were able to make an easy reservation online for a Friday night. The staff were very welcoming. We dove right into the beautiful salad bar and enjoyed a wide variety of table cut meats. Everything was delicious and the attention given to our group was definitely noticed. We've been coming here regularly for a couple of years. Their happy hour is one of the best values around--it's affordable, the food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is really nice. Adam always provides outstanding service and today we had Tyler who was equally great. We've also had the full churrasco dinner in the main dining room, and it's fantastic. We've been to this restaurant many times and we always have great experience. We've had the table service where we could request all of the different types of meat and that was great. My son loved that in particular but since I don't have as big of an appetite my favorite thing is to go to the bar and enjoy their happy hour. The cheeseburgers cost $10 and they are so flavorful and delicious. Of the four Fogo de Chao locations I've been to, the one in Thousand Oaks is easily the nicest. Unfortunately, similar to my experience at the other locations, the customer service can't keep up with what the ambiance and price point demand of it. There was one Gaucho who was flat out rude, but for the most part, it just seems like employees aren't well trained. That being said, there are a few who stood out because they provided the type of service you expect when you're spending close to $100 per person. The salad bar was regularly refilled and the endless variety of meats were constantly offered to us, but this location does seem to over salt their meat. Fogo de Chao in Thousand Oaks is a great restaurant for special occasions. I can't wait to come back and feel the Picanha in my belly trying to pop the button off my jeans! read more

Our server, Katherine, provided exceptional care throughout the evening. Lauren and manager John stopped by our table several times to check in and make sure everything was perfect, which made the experience feel especially memorable. I cannot say enough good things about the Thousand Oaks location. The management team, greeters, Gauchos, and wait staff are truly the best. Everyone seems to know exactly what to do and when to do it, creating a smooth, welcoming, and enjoyable dining experience from start to finish. This location at The Lakes in Thousand Oaks is so nice... plenty of parking, beautiful dining room and beautiful patio seating as well. The service is great! The hostesses kindly greet you when you walk in and literally right when you're seated the server comes and introduces herself and for us first timers, offered a quick run down of what their dining experience is all about... BIG SHOUT OUT TO OUR WONDERFUL SERVER SARAH! She was a doll! So thorough and attentive throughout our meal. We never felt rushed or forgotten and she went out of her way to make sure our dinner was awesome as did the rest of the staff throughout our time there. Not overkill- just professional and friendly. The food! Was so good! We started with their seafood tower which was excellent! The lobster tail, (4 small quarters-a few bites each), was so good! Also included 4 tasty claws, about 8 shrimp, some crab legs (very messy and hard work to get the meat out) and very fresh tasty mussels. I wish they included oysters and I also wish they'd serve the crab already shelled cocktail style. I think $112 is overpriced and only because I'm comparing it to Mastros which offers about the same amount of seafood including oysters and a large helping of crab cocktail (and no mess) for $80. Still I do recommend it just be prepared for the mess :o) The Market Table & Feijoada Bar is amazing! So much to choose from and so hard to not over eat! Included with the meals whether you choose an entree or the full CHURRASCO which is where they're constantly bringing a variety of meats to the table! 2 of us had that and 2 of us ordered the SINGLE CHURRASCO CUT with top & bottom sirloin *excellent! Then of course we finished off with an espresso martini and shared the Brûlée Cheesecake oh my gosh drool drool! So good! This truly was an amazing dinner and clearly I recommend it! Very pricey (personally think it's a little overpriced) and honestly not a restaurant I'd come to other than for special occasions and we don't mind spending money on an excellent dinner but for four people w/drinks and an appetizer you're looking at a $500 meal! I've been to several Fogo de Chão locations, including the Midtown Manhattan location in New York City. While the Thousand Oaks restaurant is not as large, it has a charm of its own. The restaurant is located in a relaxed shopping center with a pond and walking paths nearby, making for a pleasant setting. The service was excellent. Our servers and the manager, John, checked on us throughout the meal and made sure everything was going well without being intrusive. The steaks were consistently good, and the salad bar offered plenty of fresh options. Overall, I felt the quality of the food and service was well worth the price. I don't eat beef, but my boyfriend does, so we decided to go to this Brazilian steakhouse since they also offer pork and chicken. I was excited to try it, but honestly, it didn't go as I hoped. First of all, I waited around 15 minutes for any chicken or pork to come by, while steak kept coming nonstop. My boyfriend really enjoyed his steak, so that's definitely a plus for beef lovers. But when I finally got some chicken, it was completely dry. Then I tried the pork with parmesan, and it was so tough I could barely cut it. I was also looking forward to the salad bar, but it was pretty disappointing. Maybe it was because we came on a Monday and there weren't many people, but a lot of the items looked like they hadn't been restocked. The pineapple I took was still green and not sweet at all. The only thing from the salad bar I really liked was the corn salad--it was actually delicious. I understand this place focuses mainly on beef, but I think the other meats should still be tasty and well-prepared too. It kind of felt like they didn't put much care into anything besides the steak. The grilled cheese with honey was amazing, and the service was good. The atmosphere was cozy and nice too. My husband and I came here for the first time to celebrate his very first Father's Day, and sadly, the experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, we were seated inside, but it was very crowded and loud, so we asked if we could sit outside instead. A waiter moved us to an outdoor table, but the table and chairs were dusty and didn't appear to have been cleaned. After being seated outside, we waited about 10 minutes and no one came to take our order or even check on us. At that point, we went back inside to see what was going on because it felt like we had been forgotten. Eventually, a waiter came over, explained the churrasco experience, and we went to get our sides from the buffet. Unfortunately, a lot of the food was cold and honestly not very good for the price. Back at our table, our server took our drink order. I ordered a Coke and a water with no ice. When she brought the drinks, there were no straws, so I asked for one. What really bothered me was that she grabbed the straw directly with her bare hands before handing it to me. Maybe that doesn't bother everyone, but it definitely made both my husband and me uncomfortable because it didn't seem very hygienic. After another long wait, the meat service finally started. The problem was that several different cuts would come all at once, and then there would be another long wait before anyone came back. I think it would make much more sense to space it out so guests can actually enjoy each cut while it's hot. Instead, everything came at once, got cold quickly, and we couldn't really appreciate the different flavors. What makes this even more disappointing is that this was supposed to be a special day for us. It was my husband's first Father's Day, and I chose the full churrasco experience because I wanted us to enjoy a nice meal together and make some good memories. Instead, we left feeling frustrated and disappointed. Between the slow service, cold food, cleanliness issues, and overall lack of attention, I don't feel the experience was worth what we paid. I would have given this visit a 5 star review, however I will tell you why! First impressions are so important in any business that you goi into. This was my first time ever dining at the location. As I entered I made it clear to the Hostess that this was my first time here and I didn't really understand the Menu. She handed me too different menus and that my Server would explain how it all works, ok. So briefly I asked how does the self serve Salad bar work and she said it costs $39.00 per person and if you want meat it would be an additional cost up to around $79.00 per person. Mind you not it's all you can eat. But really how much can we really eat? So I was waiting for the server to explain to me the different options that are available and she really didn't explain to us how it all works. So as I'm setting here I Saw a Big Hamburger go by my table and I said I would order that along with the Salad Bar. The Burger was Delicious and the cost of it would blow you away and unfortunately I'm not going to tell you the cost. You'll have to experience it yourself. So to some it all up. It would have been better and more pleasant if the Server would have explained the brief explanation of the menu's and inform the customer how it all works rather than just asking us are you ready to order. Tyler & Nico were incredible! This was my husband and I's second time here for celebrating 3 years at my company. The food was immensely better than the first time and we still don't know how they did it. All the meats came around very fast and cycled very quickly for it being a Friday night. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes for anything we requested if it hadn't come around by then. Now to the real stars of the show. Tyler and Nico. Tyler greeted us when we first sat down and had such an encapsulating energy and was borderline psychic, he always knew when we needed something. Nico never let our drinks get below half empty and Jessie was helping us out with clearing the table, sauces, and he was so quick and efficient sometimes we didn't even notice him, for a busy Friday night that was service we've never seen before! The cheese bread was amazing and cheese curd with that drizzle of honey was just yum. The polenta crisp was a miss last time because it was over cooked, this time it was amazing! Perfectly cooked with that crisp outside and tenderness inside. My favorite cut of meats were the Picanha, Bone in beef ancho ribeye, and the filet mignon. Since these are sliced at the table for you, you choose how well you like it and if they don't have it in hand, they are gracious enough to get one that is. The restaurant looked very elegant.
