    Seafood Pasta
    Adrienne D.

FOOD: I ordered the seafood pasta. It was filled with mussel, shrimp, cod, and scallops. The pasta comes with 2 slices of garlic bread. It was delicious!! I loved the tomato based sauce. This was a BIG meal. I had trouble getting through the entire dish. Definitely you get your money's worth. 10/10 a spot to check out

Sits on a corner with plenty of free street parking (at least in September.). Pups welcome and there is a cute outdoor patio that hugs corner; enter through that door (a few steps to access.) Lots to look at, fun signs and great vibe. Also a small covered patio at main entrance. The staff were epic. Very welcoming, kind and gave excellent sincere service. Appreciated the water bowl for my pup! Food is basic fare; you're not coming here for a foodie experience. Instead, soak up local color, meet and chat with others and enjoy a meal/full bar with your beloved pup companion! I'm here for a week; I'll be back.

This is my second time here. I love their salads. So far this is all I have tried. But I loved it so much I went back again to get the same thing. I love a good steak and onions rings, and why not have it all on a salad! Everyone who works here is so friendly and helpful. The only thing I would say is it could be kept up a little more. I loved trying the patio this time. It was a beautiful day for it!

Love the ambiance in this place! There's artsy pictures of Frida, Katarina and Marilyn Monroe plus old west artifacts. Our wonderful server seated us with a nice view of the street so we could people watch. You can get the fish of the day with salad, rice or fries. I got the Mahi mahi and it was moist and tasty. My friend loved her juicy burger and fries. You can also get beer, local wines, ice tea or lemonade. Everything was delicious and there's plenty of seating.

Filet Mignon with rice pilaf and vegetables

A cozy mountain cabin style restaurant, with 2 floors of indoor seating and a small covered outdoor seating area. We had the breaded calamari appetizer which was okay. For the main entree, I had the bacon wrapped filet mignon with rice pilaf and vegetables. The filet mignon was tender and juicy, but slightly bland (maybe I should have asked for the peppercorn sauce?). The bacon strip wrapped around the edges of the steak was disappointingly soft (sorry, but I like my bacon crispy). The rice pilaf was very tasty, but the vegetables were too soft. My guest had the calamari steak with rice pilaf and vegetables. The calamari steak was identical to the appetizer except it came as a flat steak instead of strips. Nevertheless, it had a nice crispy crust and the calamari itself was okay. We were not offered a dessert menu; not sure if they offer desserts. Overall, the ambience and service were great, the food was average/good, and our dishes were in the mid $30's. May try it again and order something different. It's a cute little place with lots of personality and I hope they can up the their game food wise.

If I could give negative starts this place is the Winner! Fish and chips. Fish is like large Fishsticks. Ordered Alfredo pasta we got cooked noodles with tons of watered down Alfredo. Food came out extremely fast. I would prefer a little wait to have better prepared food. Overpriced

    Cajun Burger and fries

We were looking for an affordable lunch in Cambria and decided to drop into this place. Being a weekday, it was busy and we were seated right away and given menus. I ordered their Cajun Burger with fries and hubby ordered a bowl of their clam chowder. The food came out and was flavorful and filling. Service was attentive, there weren't any issues; couldn't ask for more! Their interior is decorated with random items like framed newspaper pages highlighting events in Cambria. It has a log cabin facade with fun tchotchkes hung up on the walls. It was entertaining to point things out while we waited for our meal!

It's a cozy restaurant with an intimate setting on Main Street serving dishes packed with flavor! All the dishes were well prepared and presented with lots of detail and care but the two standouts in my opinion were the Rillettes de Gibier and the braised short rib. The rillettes de gibier had was packed with a fatty flavor and just a hint just a hint of gaminesss that made it a great start to the meal. The braised short ribs were just so tender and the mushroom flavor really shined with each bite. It was woody and had a natural, forest-floor quality that grounded the heavy, fatty richness of the short ribs. I could eat that every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

In fact is was so warm that my wife had to go outside to cool off a couple of times. Service was stellar. From the server, (Ramona) to the other staff. They took very good care of us. Kept our waters full and checked on us several times during our visit. Let's get down to it. The moment that counts. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. They were FANTASTIC. They were stuffed with a feta type cheese and were absolutely delish! My main dish wass the Filet Mignon. I ordered it medium. It came with veggies and mashed potatoes. When the steak showed up it looked good and I cut into the steak. It was done to perfection. It had some kind of JD whiskey sauce on it. I took a bite and it was awesome. SO much flavor. I was in heaven. It was like eating candy. I have always considered The Range in Santa Margarita the best but THIS, yeah this was going to be hard to beat! The Sows Ear was now top dog! The mashed potatoes were epic as well. Perfectly cooked and very creamy. The veggies, (broccoli, squash, and carrots), were great as well. Not a huge squash fan but they did not over do the squash and it was just full of flavor. This REALLY went well when it came to the food. The portions were spot on. Lastly we come to the dessert. We had the Mud Pie. Yep, it was a HUGE piece for less than $10.00. Great value and man.........., was it good. Enough for 2 people. It really creates that intimate setting when you can share with your significant other and it be more then enough. This place would have gotten 5 stars had the interior temp been comfortable. 4.5 stars! The bill for the two of us, no alcohol, was right at $140.00. with tip were out the door at approx. $170.00. Thanks to the staff for making this experience great! Ramona, Katie, and the guy walking around that made sure we were good! They made a great team! I would totally recommend the Sow's Ear in Cambria. This place is everything you would expect and you will not be disappointed. Don't miss out on this place! Worth every penny. That is all! Have a great day!

Did I laugh out loud when I heard their out going phone message, yes, yes I did! We were two doors down staying at the Sand Pebbles Inn. On a Friday night we arrived about 5:30 p.m. No line. We brought a bottle of wine and sat near the fire pit and talked to a few folks while waiting for our table. They said come back at 7:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Predictably we powered though our one bottle of chardonnay. I took a stroll back to the hotel to grab another. By the time I got back my wife had already been seated. It was about 6:15 p.m. So much for the high demand and long wait. She got sat towards the back at a little two top table nowhere near the front with the ocean view. Meh. Okay let's do this. We put in an order of the Clams Casino to start, clam chowder, and we were going to split the large order of Cioppino. This is no knock on the restaurant but we were seated next to a couple that really liked each other. I mean a lot. Luckily my wife had her back to them. I tried not to watch but they were going at it pretty hard for being in a well lit crowded restaurant. Good for them? Ahh, to be 30 again. Sourdough bread was really sour. I don't think I've ever thought twice about bread being served at a restaurant until now. Clams Casino comes out and it's not looking so good. We know what this dish is and supposed to be. This was a bad version to say the least. There was little to no breadcrumbs. Just some clams on the half shell swimming in butter and garlic with a slice of bacon on top. A poor excuse for this dish. Only $27.50! I suggest they try Brophy Brothers Garlic Baked Clams. About a million times better and about $10.00 less. Then came the clam chowder. I've had clam chowder high and low and this was some of the worse I've ever had. First off it's kinda translucent and appears to be thickened with cornstarch or maybe xanthan gum. All I can tell you is it's gooey, not creamy, short on clams, and tastes of over powering black pepper. We also discovered an unexpected ingredient, spinach. This confused both of us to no end. So at this point my wife says she's had enough of this and tells the waitress to cancel the Cioppino, and bring us the check. She says back, it's too late for that. My wife isn't taking no for an answer and stands her ground. Where am I this whole time? I'm hiding behind my glass of wine wishing we were some where else. They brought the check without incident and we left. What a train wreck that was.

But they had kind of a generic look and feel to them, but the problem was they had zero flavor. Like nobody put salt on them when they took them out of the fryer. I'm no food expert, or running a restaurant expert, these are just my reactions as a local who stops in here fairly regularly. I think if the folks who run this place feel like there's any value to my little thoughts, they would be easy to fix and wouldn't cost anything at all really. I've been coming here for years, and I want these folks to do well.
