I think I have met THE best cinnamon roll in all the land!!!!!!!! Created by the individual Chef JAMIE. When it came on my plate, it was just a assuming Roll that looks like all the rest. Done with my breakfast, I turned my attention over to the roll. While there is lots of talk about the food there, and it was good, nothing prepared me for this overload. When I cut it open, I think I heard heaven open up. Angels were singing. Halwa (or halua) is an elite tier of dessert that is on this level. I had a clam chowder and a half a tuna sandwich they grill the sandwich, but put raisins in the tuna fish salad, which I really didn't like. The clam chowder was kind of thick and institutional. The Cavalier would have scored 5 stars had the racist old white man with a ponytail hadn't been there! His racist comments to the chef turned my stomach, I couldn't eat I was so mad & I took my food to go. The racist ponytail man was so loud the entire restaurant could hear him as he belittled the cooks using racists comments. He kept saying racist analogies like "Do you even understand the difference between me asking you and telling you?" "We're on the same team, we're homies." "Do you understand, just like soccer, we're the same team." "I don't care what you have to say, you listen to me!" The kind older Hostess went in there to quiet him down, the minute she walked away he was back at the cooks window harassing him about the night's "special." We are staying at the Cavalier resort and walked over for breakfast. Lots of glass and views. Staff friendly and attentive. Coffee was luke warm and not very tasty. Come on. Is it that hard to have good coffee? I had eggs and a sirloin patty. it came with toast and I had hash browns. Delicious!!! The wife had eggs and bacon with hash browns and toast. No wait time got seated pretty quick and the food was good too and they have a variety of food options. I do not recommend the fresh cinnamon toast though it tasted burnt. Chipotle pasta was also like a 5/10, too saucy. I loved the french toast so so gooood. The drinks are also not as good but are drinkable lol. But its worth a visit if your staying nearby! read more

There's not too many options to eat in San Simeon, and frankly, I was too tired from all of my hiking to sit in the restaurant; so I ordered for takeout to eat in my room at the motel across the street. I originally called to place the order, but the phone number listed takes you to the hotel front desk (which was busy around dinner time). It took longer than expected to be helped by the hostess, but my burger was ready in 15 minutes. I had the Hearst burger in my room with sweet potato fries. I liked the sauces that came with it, and they turned out to be very necessary since the meat was on the drier side. Still a hearty meal after a long day of hiking Pismo, Morro Bay, and exploring Cambria. read more

The last morning of our trip, we decided to stick to a simple diner experience that was close enough to the ocean that it kind of had a view. I appreciated the down to earth atmosphere and it was honestly the most affordable meal we had the whole time we were in town. It's slightly better than basic diner food as my eggs Benedict held their own and are not usually at most diners. My spouse had the breakfast sandwich and enjoyed his food as well. This is the part where I say something to the effect of "so good I forgot to take pictures." We did enjoy the meal, but the real reason I didn't take pictures is because I was tired and hungry. The Cavelier's menu has many desirable items on their menu. We started with the appetizer and the entree. This included the Charcuterie plate, braised beef, beef stroganoff, and fish 'm chips. The braised beef ($38) was delicious while the stroganoff ($30) and fish ($22) were ok but was under whelming. The server seemed to question our decisuon not to have soup or salad or a cocktail. I got the impression other paeties may tend to go for the full course. The water fillers were very attentive and polite. They were students working a job. The feed back iss for the multtiple water fillers limit the amount of water glass contact to minize a hygene risk. My disappointment started with the appetizer and didn't improve during the meal. The description of the Charcuterie plate ($19) sounded very appealing, but it was not worth it. There was too much substitution of cheaper products for olives, Crostini, nuts (which were slvered almonds) which deflated the enjoyment from this plate. read more

Our first time here. We were greeted by staff and they were very friendly. We came here during lunch hour, so everything we ordered is from the lunch menu. We ordered the chicken strips and fries (kids menu), fish and chips, charcuterie plate, and grilled salmon salad. Chicken strips were on the salty side. Even though we got this for our picky toddler, I still taste everything. The fries were regular crinkle cut fries which you can't go wrong with. The fish in the fish and chips were very bland and oily, but crispy. The fries were also regular crinkle cut fries. I did like the coleslaw and the tartar sauce. The grilled salmon salad was mediocre. Nothing special about this dish. The charcuterie plate came out a little later. Unfortunately the charcuterie plate wasn't good at all. The bread was very stale. And the salami was already going spoiled. I do not recommend this dish at all. I don't think they push this out much and that's why items on that plate were spoiled. Thankfully, the waitress took it off the bill. I did not take a picture of it because we sent it back right away. Overall, we won't be coming back. read more

For the places available in this area, you can't beat it. Pricing was fantastic aside from one single aspect, a side dish of bacon is five dollars. And it's not great bacon. Our server, an older gentleman, was absolutely sweet and incredibly patient with our party of six--including several energetic kiddos. He made us feel right at home and quickly brought out warm bread and butter, which the kids devoured. We ordered kids' meals (chicken strips with fries and spaghetti), and there wasn't a single complaint--clean plates all around! My son had the clam chowder in a bread bowl and really enjoyed it. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon with veggies and mashed potatoes, and everything was spot-on. The steak was flavorful and tender, with a pat of butter on top that made it even more mouthwatering. The veggies were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor--clearly fresh and well-prepared. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews, because our experience was excellent. Yes, the steak is priced on the higher side, but you get what you pay for--great quality and taste. We had lunch here after leaving the Hearst Ranch Winery. We have eaten here twice in the past, during other vacations to Cambria. We've never had a bad experience; I have no idea why some reviews are so negative. We had breakfast years ago and thought it was very nice. Today, we had lunch. Hubby ordered Fish 'n' Chips and asked that the fries be extra crispy and they were! He said that was the best Fish 'n' Chips he's had since ... he can't remember when he last had Fish 'n' Chips that were so good. And it's something he orders not infrequently. I had the Fish Tacos. They were good and very plentiful; I only ate two of the three because it was so much food. Both of the waitresses are very experienced servers; they were both polite, welcoming and efficient as well as caring. We come to Cambria once a year, generally speaking. The next time we return, we will definitely fit another breakfast or lunch at Cavalier Coastal Kitchen into our itinerary. Brava! read more

First of all, you have to appreciate the old school ambiance. The restaurant decor probably hasn't changed in 50 years, and personally I love that. The appearance belies how incredibly delicious the food is. My wife has been disappointed over and over to get a filet rare in fancy expensive restaurants, but they nailed it here. We have stayed at the cavalier resort next door a couple of times and have had the seafood pasta both times. It's hard to believe how incredibly good the seafood pasta here is, we like to add pepper flakes for a little kick and it's a bonus to have an ocean view balcony at the resort to sit and enjoy the pasta. We highly recommend the seafood pasta here, it's the best we've ever had in the entire SoCal area so far and we've tried a few. The cocktails were pretty good too read more

The staff were lovely! And of course the location is wonderful. The food, however, left much to be desired. The clam chowder was okay tasting but the consistency was nauseating. I got charcuterie board is usually an easy go to (and kind of hard to screw up). That being said, this one was bizarre. The bread was stale, the cheese was wet and greasy (no clue what was going on there) and the prosciutto tasted like few day old deli ham. Again, the staff were very wonderful. Excellent waiter but he had so many tables that he couldn't get to me. Half an hour sitting there. Hostess was brusque verging on rudeness, likely for the same reasons. I didn't tip; the first time I've done that in years. If they can't service their guests properly, they need to take less tables until they can hire more people. P.S. Crème brûlée is not a dish to be served straight out of the fridge, even if that's how you got it from the wholesaler. The top needs to be toasted with a blowtorch.
