After shopping with mom in town, we wanted to grab a quick lunch before heading back home about a 1.5 hour drive. It was a beautiful warm afternoon and we had lunch outside the restaurant. Such a cute spot. Mom had a glass of red wine and I had unsweetened ice tea. Both excellent. Our lunches were excellent and lots of food! We even had leftovers. Today we tried the baked clams and they were delicious--tons of tasty garlic and delectable chunks of clams! We also sat near the front by the open accordion doors--the sound and noise was not nearly as bad as prior visits. read more

I would NOT recommend this steakhouse. The staff is nice, but nothing we ordered was good, but it was expensive. Some of the drinks were OK... The other ones tasted like watered down juice. More water than anything else! Appetizers were nothing special presentation wise and really weren't fantastic taste wise either. Everything was OK but at this point, our expectations for the rest of the meal were starting to get pretty low. Our party tried different types of steaks and all were underwhelming and not very appetizing. The fillet was a bit fatty which for lean cut you should not be cutting fat off it. Undercooked and kind of bland. The texture also just was not right. The more expensive steaks were charred on the outside but not like nicely browned, more like actually burnt and charred. However, the inside was not even remotely appealing looking. It was gray with cloudy white pieces and a completely raw middle. (I'm not even sure how anybody served that. But it was sliced so both the chef and the waiter saw what the inside looked like) We've been to many steakhouses and I've never had meat that looked anything like that- not that color and not that texture. The sides really weren't great either, but fine. Veggies were decent, mushrooms were button mushrooms and overly salty but herby, and the carbs we got were fine. But an expensive steakhouse. I'm expecting the mushrooms to be a wild mushroom medley, cooked perfectly in butter and for all the carb dishes to be extremely good... so much so that you wanna try them all! (I'm also expecting them to be a little fancier, something like scalloped potatoes... but if they're gonna do simpler options they need to do them really well. Anything fried needs to be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.) The staff and the servers were nice though. I have no complaints with them. But I'm not sure how the kitchen could even serve any of that to us and call it steak honestly- it was gray and cloudy... Has anyone else ever been served gray and cloudy looking steak that was raw in the middle? The quality definitely does not meet the price point. Unfortunately, I have to say this was the WORST meal I had in the Hamptons. At a price point of around $75 a steak, I don't have anything good to say about the steak. I keep going to BV's and the French dip never varies--- always excellent. My wife is a tried and true Asian salad fan. Steve always accommodates us as soon as we walk in. Another great meal ... lunch ... in the Hamptons. Seated promptly (reservation was helpful). Crowded inside, but comfortable. Server was excellent; all staff were friendly and efficient. The food? Delicious. Clams on the half-shell a nice start. But, the linguine with mussels and clams ... wow! Fantastic dish. Good food with mediocre service. We had our drink orders screwed up multiple times. They brought our main course without bringing forks after taking away our forks with the appetizers. I asked for a beer and they brought me an iced tea. After repeating my beer order, he said he remembered me ordering a beer. Then I repeated my beer order and the waiter said they didn't have that beer. How is it you can remember a customer ordering a beer and then not bring a beer... I am so perplexed. We were denied service at Bobby Vans simply because we had a service animal--an outright violation of ADA law. To make matters worse, the host claimed they were "out of pretzels" while we watched a fresh pretzel come out of the kitchen just 10 minutes later. Discriminatory and dishonest. We had a nice dinner here on Sunday night. I had the French Dip sandwich and it was delicious. It tasted like French Onion Soup on a sandwich. The bread was crunchy. So it's definitely need the "jus". The Jus was quite tasty and not too salty. I would recommend. My friend had the Surf & Turf, which he enjoyed. The steak was cooked perfectly, as it should be since Bobby Vans is known for their steaks. My girlfriend had the Chicken Milanese. She said it was just OK. The breast needed to be pounded a little thinner. It looked like a big thick chicken breast. Not at all appetizing looking but I would probably not have ordered chicken at a steakhouse. Service was great. Overall, it was a very nice experience. I would come back. I hope the chef revisits the chicken preparation. I've had this type of chicken at any number of restaurants and La Parma probably does it best. If the manager happens to read this review, check out La Parma's version of it and bring it to BVs. read more

I've been to Bobby Vans in the past and was not wowed by my dining experience. This recent Friday evening dinner was much more satisfying. We started with the clams casino which was good. Not great. The shaved Brussel sprouts salad was soo tasty. I was very happy with this dish. We also ordered the fried calamari. Nothing spectacular but I did enjoy the crispyness of the calamari. The Porterhouse for 2 was cooked perfectly. Seared on the outside and slightly pink on inside & added a side order of whipped potatoes. Our waiter was very attentive and the food came out quickly although the restaurant was busy. I'd definitely visit again. read more

My husband is on a quest to dine at all the legendary, old steakhouses and that has included some of the greats in NYC: recently Delmonico's and Keens, which as expected were beyond outstanding. In the Hamptons, Bobby Vans qualifies as THE steakhouse out east. Despite, reading all the surprisingly bad reviews it has received on Yelp, we hoped they were the exceptions and decided to try the restaurant last night. The service was excellent: our server Dennis and all the porters provided service befit a fine dining establishment. However the reviewers were right, and we should have gone elsewhere. When it came to the food, it was quickly evident that Bobby Vans struggles with quality and living up to what was previously a sterling reputation. We started with Oysters Rockefeller, expecting plump oysters complimented by an elegant stuffing. What we were served were shells with stuffing but without any oysters! We actually went on the hunt to find them, slogging through the Velvetta-like sauce on top, sifting through the stuffing and finding no evidence of an actual oyster. The waiter explained that these were "North Shore" oysters, which on very close inspection of the inside shell showed that an oyster previously resided there but all that remained and was served to us appeared to be just the oyster's membrane. So we sent them back. Next to the steaks. Never have we been served beef that was incinerated on the outside and in the case of the porterhouse literally cold to the touch inside that we'd ordered medium-rare. My filet was just edible but the burnt tree-bark-like exterior made it hard to chew through. The kitchen offered to put my husband's porterhouse back on the grill to heat it through, which was a mistake. Now the inside was not quite as cold but the outside looked like it was hit by a nuclear bomb. The only saving grace to a very short lived and disappointing evening was our waiter, Dennis, who was wonderful to us through this misery and very obliging. The owner eventually came over to announce that because we "didn't like" the oysters he was removing them from the bill. We clarified that we rejected the dish because it had no oysters, but he continued to insist that we did not like them. When we remarked about the condition of the porterhouse he continued on about how we didn't like the oysters but offered no apologies, explanations, or even acknowledgement that were unhappy patrons. Just added insult to injury. Now we understand all the bad reviews. Never again. read more

Excellent food and ambiance - just plan ahead seats are at a premium in the summer in the Hamptons

Went to Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton yesterday (10/14/25) for lunch. I have been going there for years and years. The service has horrible and they were not even busy. After we finished eating, took 20 minutes for someone - - and I had to call him over - - to clear the table. Asked or the dessert menu, took time to get that, and took more time to take the order, and bring the item. Place was full of fly's that kept buzzing around. This place needs a major renovation. Floor needs to be re-done, the wood patriations are dirty and need to be cleaned and/or refinished. Even the dessert menu, sealed in plastic, was dirty and crooked. Was not even going to leave a tip, but I did. I have never gone to a restaurant and even thought about not leaving a tip. And, to top it off, waiter gave us someone else's check for a $100 more than our check. Very disappointing experience. read more

I enjoyed my experience at this restaurant Bobby Van's steakhouse with my hubby. I had a delish egg Omelette with tomatoes, feta and spinach. All the ingredients were fresh that blended well with the eggs. The home fries were all fresh with delightful seasonings. Of coarse I had a delightful ice coffee with that kick I needed to hang out for the day. My husband said his Philly steak was amazing it full of flavor not greasy extremely yummy for the tummy. He added his fries were crispy made with perfection. The service at the establishment was excellent the outdoor dining experience was very positive. read more

Came to try out Bobby Vans after work. Great Martinis and local oysters. The hostess was a little strange. While she was in the phone, she's used a hand gesture of shoo us away - directing the other hostness to sit outside. Not a big deal but also weird. My husband and I came for dinner during the summer and had a beautiful evening dining outside with our dog, who the restaurant was very welcoming of - brought her a water bowl and everything. We shared the shaved brussel sppourt salad to start, which was quite delicious - lots of different fresh flavors and vegetables. The red opinion and walnut vinaigrette offered nice contrast to the sweet flavors. We then shared mashed potatoes and broccolini side. I ordered opinion rings for myself because my husband couldn't eat those due to his gluten allergy. We also each ordered a filet, mine was the smaller portion with the lobster tail. It was cooked very well and the lobster was delicious. It is not an inexpensive meal, but you get what you pay for for the location and it's a solid choice. read more

Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton bar experience still remains one of a kind in the Hampton's says this author and Forbes writer. The Dirty Bobby is a treat to be savored with all of its blue cheese deliciousness as is the espresso martini. A quick ticket to the rocket ship sometimes needed for the moon. While George is as curious as his name origin story implies. TJ is the real star as the drinks he pours make that initialed moniker stand for something-true joy. Very disappointed! Reserved a table outside 2 days in advance. The snobby, college aged, blonde hostess tells us we don't have a reservation for outside and can only accommodate us in a very small table inside, behind the hostess stand. The noise was ridiculous!! The food was mediocre and the service was disappointing as well. Been coming here for years so this was an unpleasant surprise. * Andrea (owner) leaves a comment about trying them again, but doesn't leave a phone number where she can be reached. Wow - what a disappointing, overpriced, utterly without shame of a ripoff dining establishment this is in Bridgehampon. Aside from absolutely lovely service (our server was amazing), every single thing we ordered was either affirmatively bad or blandly mediocre. BEWARE OF ANYTHING OTHER THAN STEAK - it will be bad. If you stick with basic steak you'll still be disappointed, but not outraged as I was after the worst mahi mahi I've ever had. My brother sent back the porterhouse pork special which was a horrible use of some poor pig's life. Even the basic flourless chocolate cake was inedible. We have been eating here for over 27 years and have always loved it. Our experience this past week was EXTREMELY disappointing. Zack our server was FANTASTIC. He always aims to please. I would give him 10 stars. I ordered the Niman ranch baby back ribs. I order it every time. Wow this time they were not baby back - They looked tasted and were St. Louis ribs. They were thick and very chewy in their consistency. If Vans purveyor changed then I would have liked to be told that this time the ribs changed. Like I stated- 27 years dining there.
