I got three pieces of shrimp but it's supposed to come I guess I had to ask for the other one you get tortillas other places give you four or sometimes three if you pay with you get charged more. This was our first experience with Old Town Mexican Café. We ordered it for delivery and we were not disappointed. Our first order was the two taco combination plate. We got chicken tacos and it came with rice and beans. The rice was great, the beans were amazing. You can tell that they are homemade. The chicken tacos were crispy and full flavor. The toppings were fresh . It also came with a side salad and some extremely delicious ranch dressing. It came with a small bag of chips and salsa. We also ordered an additional larger bag of chips and salsa. The chips are definitely made fresh and the salsa is full of flavor. Everything they put in to this liquidy salsa is amazing. By liquidy I mean it is not a pico de gallo. Were there a lot of chunks in it. We are very excited to actually go into the restaurant to eat as well. read more

I would give this restaurant four stars for its food and two stars for its service, hence the three-star overall. We were quickly seated and ordered drinks, which were brought quickly. We did not see our server again for 30 minutes. Another group was seated after us, ordered, and received their food before our server came back to take our order. And just to be clear, the restaurant was nearly empty. The only reason we stayed is because it was our first time here and we really wanted to try it out. Thankfully, the food was pretty good. I liked their chips, salsa, and the refried beans they provide with the chips. The posole was excellent, but the fajitas were just okay. They included shrimp, beef and chicken on the fajitas. The shrimp was tasty, but the rest of the cooked ingredients were a little bit too greasy. I'm not sure what we ate today but it was clearly not fresh chicken in my taco It looked like the chicken that you but precooked in plastic packages at the grocery store. Pretty sure chips were not made in house, beans were 98% lard and tasted like pure fat., My friends enchilada was toddler size and taco looked like a taco from a familiar fast food restaurant we all know of. The margarita's had 0 alcohol in them and tasted like something premixed out of a can. The positives...salsa was good and rice was ok. Tonight was takeout & they were green pepper fajitas- had a hard time finding the chicken! Might have had 1 thigh chopped into tiny pieces. And the flavor was missing. Best Mexican food in Orcutt. Salsa is bomb, and when you eat at the restaurant they give you beans with your chips and salsa. Five stars just for that hah! But the food is always consistent and very yummy. Prices are average. They have a nice menu with some things you don't usually see (SO to the Mexican pizza) Also they home make their flan. Yesterday for our anniversary we visited your Cafe, I ordered a strawberry margarita, when I received it, it had SALT on the rim instead of the sweet sugar, I ordered it blended, it came back crushed ice, you could hardly taste the strawberry and the tequila was weak. My wife & I felt like dining out for dinner and left feeling upset. The food was good and tasted authentic. However, when it came to the service, they skipped us and helped 3 other groups of patrons that arrived after we had already sat down. Located in small town south of Santa Maria with some cute restaurants and bars. Street parking so you may need to drive around if it's busy. The salsa is delicious and spicy; unfortunately the chips were rock hard. They also include a cup of refried beans with chips and salsa when you sit down. Nice side to compliment the salsa n chips. The taco meats were tasty with.good flavor but the corn tortillas were stale. steak quesadillas was huge with guacamole, sour cream and pickled jalapeños. Didn't get chance to take pics before a bite was taken out but enjoyed it. The people next to us ordered a wet burrito which was also pretty big and looked good. No complaints here, but also no extra praise or any stand out comments either. We have only been here for brunch, ordered a chorizo omelet and a carnitas omelet. Both had too much meat that kinda overpowered the other ingredients, but also it seems backward to complain about getting more of something you ordered. Stopped in here for lunch. Boy was I glad we did. Restaurant was clean & bright. The servers were happy & attentive. But the food was spectacular. Cheese Enchiladas were primarily cheddar cheese , sauce didn't seem in house made, tamale hardly had any filling, it wasn't fluffy. Some of the best catered Mexican food ever! Wife and I attended the Jubilee by the Sea jazz festival at the Women's Club in Arroyo Grande. 200 fans in folding chairs tied together with plastic ties -the same type of ties used to tie up large number of criminal suspects by police. Minimal shoulder room. We were there for 7 hours, and by the 5th hour the hunger pains were too much to overcome. I went back between music scores to see what was cooking. Sign said "Old Town Mexican Café" of Orcutt was catering. They must have had a small kitchen in the back, with hand drawn menu. $7 dishes, cash only: asada nachos, asado taco salad, chili relleno, 2 asada tacos with rice, beans, quesadilla with cheese, pork tamale with rice and beans, and chicken taco salad. I forked over the cash and ordered the chili relleno and the chicken taco salad. The salad came almost immediately, but there was at least a 5 minute wait for the chili relleno to cook. Made my way between rows balancing the two paper plates, with tiny cups of spicy salsa. Would not want to spill any on the fans in the nearby chairs. Wife loved the chili relleno, even adding more salsa to the dish. And this is a lady who has lived 18 years in Santa Fe New Mexico, definitely knowing her Mexican dishes. My chicken taco salad came with a generous amount of sliced chicken, mixed in with a crisp tortilla shell on the bottom, covered with a layer of refried beans, rice, green peppers, tomatoes and onions. To paraphrase Colonel Sanders, so delicious it was finger licking good. Tough to eat a taco salad on your lap, with a fork and knife. Ended up breaking the tortilla shell in pieces and eating it like a taco with my hands, People looked at me, and what a sight I must have been, with food on my face like a toddler! Ate big bites to tray to avoid dropping food on my pants. Would not be good to have wet food stains on my crotch! Gave some to my wife, who made sure I had washed my hands beforehand, and finished off her rice and refried beans, which were runny just the way I like them. Came back later to take pictures, and they were sold out of the chicken taco salads, only asada nachos. Ran out of tortilla shells, they were that good! read more

I walked in, lady asked if I was here for pick up I said no and if I could please be seated for one, she said oh yes! I was seated immediately, she gave me my menu, left to go grab me chips with bean/cheese dip and salsa along with mg drink, she then ask if I was ready to order and I said yea! This place has really gone downhill from what it used to be. Our server had zero personality. Acted like she didn't want to be there. Ordered fried shrimp tacos and received grilled shrimp tacos instead. Shrimp was too chewy and I couldn't even eat them. The rice was incredibly salty and tasted awful. The only thing that was decent was the chips, salsa, and beans they served at the beginning of the meal. Now I remember why we haven't eaten here is so long. We won't be back. As we paid for this mess of a meal we were asked if we enjoyed our meal. I said no and the cashier asked why and as I begab to explain about the rice and shrimp, she clearly wasn't interested in hearing what I had to say. When I told her that I ordered the deep fried shrimp she told me that they don't serve that anymore. One of my favorite Mexican places and the last time we went, the service was horrendous. The server was very cold, we waited a really long time for our food and never got checked on. Got our plates but with none of the sides. Not kidding, we waited at least 15 minutes for the sides for the menudo and tortillas. By the time we got the sides, our food was cold. Staff kept disappearing and no one was even around to flag down. And then got one set of tortillas and not the other. Waited another 5 minutes to flag down the server and was told "there'll all in there" even though there were only 3. Had to wait another 5 minutes after that for my husband to get his. No one ever said "hey sorry for the wait" or anything.. just cold looks and sitting around waiting. Half the time the servers were talking to friends or people they knew that were at other tables. Wasn't busy at all either so it made no sense as to why we were having to wait so long for little side things. Won't go back to dine in again. OTMC is a gem in downtown Orcutt. Having had their food to go and thoroughly enjoying it, we decided to order a Family Pack for a birthday gathering. The tacos and enchiladas were so fresh, plentiful, and so affordable for a crowd! We added on several items. The chile relleno has a light batter and is so tasty. Their tamales are homemade and delicious, with just the right combo of meat to masa. Low cal food this is not. The dinners do come with a good side salad with ranch that tastes homemade. We tried breakfast at OTMC this weekend. The service was very friendly and prompt. The huevos Mexicanos were good but I would probably order something else next time since the predominant flavor was vinegar from the pickled jalapeños. I'd go with machaca next time. Go with the beans and potatoes. The potatoes were nicely cooked and had big pieces of fresh onion and green and red peppers. SO GOOD. My kiddo loved the pancakes and the chips and bean dip. Family ordered chilaquiles (which were a little dry and needed some of their delicious salsa) and a Spanish omelette, which they really enjoyed. I peeped at the table next to us and the pozole and breakfast burrito looked fabulous (and humongous). My only complaints were that my kid's bean burrito was basically all cheese, no beans, and the service can be a little slow if they are busy.
