Actually 10 stars! The sub roll tasted fresh out of the oven! The meats and cheese were outstandingly fresh! Topped of with crunch pickle slices and a spicy relish. The decor is all antique ice cream shop sourced from around the area. The counter service was fast and I ate outside on wrought iron tables and chairs with a lovely park in the background. Portions were huge and food was OK. The older blonde woman behind the counter was visibly annoyed by any and all questions asked of her and repeatedly ignored or rolled eyes at me. I should've left. I specifically asked if the turkey in the Rueben-esque Turkey panini was deli slices or more like breast Thanksgiving style. They said it wasn't slices. When it came out - it was like sliced deli meat from Wegman's. Not what I wanted. The panini itself was huge and want and fresh enough. But, I asked three times for clarification so I wasn't happy. My friend got a Chef Salad what was huge and fresh. Looked delicious. I got an iced brewed tea and when I went up for a refill, again, death stare. Not impressed with service or attitudes here. Recently discovered this place while traveling back from Canada and man, it was amazing. We put it on our map to come back to the area and this charming little cafe... the town deserves its own visit! The sandwiches were fantastic, and hot coffee hit the spot on the rainy drizzly day that it was. Umbrella in hand, we walked the town and came back to the cafe for more coffee and to get snacks to go. Everything was so tasty and the old world charm truly makes it a delightful experience. Love this place! The aesthetic of the place, the menu, the music, the candies for sale, it all feels right out of the past. There are two counters: you can order ice cream from the first counter near the main entrance, and sandwiches and salads and baked goods from the cafe counter in the back. The ice cream is mostly Hershey's but they currently have one housemade gelato and one sorbetto that rotates. The ice cream counter also has novelty candy and ice cream for sale, but if you go in back to the cafe counter, they have higher quality locally produced and imported candies along with other pantry stuff like jam and tea. I've stopped here a few times. The sandwiches have been fantastic (globe sandwich and Moroccan wrap). The carrot cake was just okay, a little dry if I remember correctly, but the coconut custard pie I tried this time was perfect and not too sweet or heavy. They also do a good (and pretty big) malt milkshake. Service is fast enough and generally friendly. read more

My two friends, and myself, were at Glass fest yesterday, Sunday, May 25th at around 2:00. The two girls that were working at the ice cream section were so miserable to every single customer we saw come in. No smiles, no hello, just miserable looking faces. The darker haired one was the worst. Those teenagers need to learn some customer service skills. I understand they probably didn't want to be working, but their attitudes need to be mentioned. We were looking for a light lunch and found this spot. Upon entering, there is no direction advising if they seat you or you grab a table/ booth. So we grabbed a booth. No one came over, so my husband went to look for a server. He said you had to order at the counter, so he did (fortunately I had told him my choice). Didn't seem to take long, but they gave you a buzzer to let you know when it was ready. When it buzzed, he picked them up. He had a turkey Tost and I had a chicken salad blt. We each enjoyed our sandwiches. They came with kettle chips and Doritos. He loves the kettle and I the Doritos so we were both happy. There was a fair selection of drinks, I just had diet cola. Overall, a good meal. Noticed the fine array of ice cream and candy choices, maybe next time. So the meal was good. I've gone to Old world a few times and it's okay. The coffee isn't great and the food is mediocre . The staff never seems to know how to make any of the coffees and it comes out differently every time. They make the same food as a couple of places and honestly I'd say go somewhere else to get the same thing just better. Don't really recommend it, unless it's a last resort. read more

It was hard to find a place that was pet friendly on Yelp in town, but we stumbled onto this one and loved it! They let us bring our small dog in if he was on a leash. It is A sandwich shop on one side, an icecream.shop on the other. A great selection to choose from and lots of other little local items for sale on the wall. Stopped for lunch while visiting Corning as it looked inviting and fun. We both had sandwiches, and sodas, but no dessert. Place has a cool look to it, menu is ok, pricing is ok, service ok, sandwiches were good, but when they say they give you a few chips as the side, they aren't kidding. I had 5 chips with my sandwich, my friend had 6! lol Also the way you order is a little confusing as there is no one at the door when you walk in, and the counter to order is not easy to find. Average food at an above average price. We got a panini and Caesar salad. First the panini. It wasn't one. It was a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato on wheat bread -- not focaccia or a baguette. It was soggy with most of the cheese sliding off the bread. My wife (who rarely complains) brought it back and said that it wasn't a panini. Their reply was, "that's how we make them." To their credit, they replaced it with a chicken salad sandwich which was decent. My Caesar salad with "oven baked chicken" was an average salad with cold sliced chicken. When I read "oven baked" I'm not thinking it means "cold." It was ok, but as with the sandwich it was not worth the $10+ Fast food places provide a better product at a lower price. So overall, I think 3 stars is a generous rating. There are better options around. read more

While I was in town visiting my mother I was looking for a place to eat and grab , healthy, but delicious food. She recommended the old world ice cream and coffee Café because they are local, and seem to fit my needs. She couldn't have been more right, because they also serve a ridiculously large amount of food with every order. I was a little dismayed at the prices when I first walked in and looked at the board, as well as the range of selections. I've a hard time making decisions, and felt overwhelmed at how many things just sounded absolutely amazing. We ended up getting a Italian chicken Panini and I ordered a chef's salad with extra turkey instead of the ham . What a gigantic meal! The sandwich was large enough for her to eat it, me to have a piece, and then to have half a sandwich later , the chef salad was heavy with vegetables, which I love, a generous amount of meat and cheese, and a whole egg cut up over top. There was the additional pretzel rod, which probably was not housemaid, but gave a nice little carb boost to the otherwise absent salad. Their house dressings paired quite well with the greens, and they gave more than enough in the take out to dress this salad with some leftover. As for the Panini, the incredible cheese, large serving, and tasty chicken made it an easy victory. They had in a few chips on the side, completely unnecessary, but I'm not complaining. If you find yourself in the area and you need a healthy, delicious, and locally grown meal stop in and check them out. I don't think you could do any better. read more

I want to give this place another star, but it was a little shabby and some food items looked old/stale. However, we were there on the weekend before they were due to close for a holiday break, so I imagine they were letting stuff run out and not restocking? I would like to give the benefit of the doubt. The ambience is Old World, as referenced in the name. Beautiful wood-work behind the deli counter, penny-tile floors, original small wood booths in the ice-cream parlor half of the store. I can imagine this place being jam packed in summer, but it was pretty dead on a blustery February. I had chicken salad on lettuce and it was perfect; chicken was not canned and not too much mayo, a pinch of salt and that was it. Two generous scoops ver some slightly wilted mesclun (seems to be the theme around the Finger Lakes...I never had a problem with this in California...? Why does everyone serve limp greens?) was more than I could eat and the tuna melt brought out to my friend was cut in 3 and when reassembled was larger than the plate it was served on! The food is dependable and good, fun place to poke around or just hang out and chat over lunch. I'd certainly stop in again when I come back. read more

But we had two issues with the place, one of my friends had the ice cream cone, and the ice cream was kept too cold, and the service was very ineficient. I love going here every time I am in town. They have some of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The best to me is the shrimp salad sandwich on a croissant. I was rather disappointed that they were out last time I went. But ended up trying something new, the chicken bruschetta sandwich in the tomato wrap. It was delicious. Old World Café presents itself as more of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, and you notice that when you walk in. The restaurant is antique-style with old-fashioned booths, tile floors, tin ceilings and an long old wooden bar. The front area is where ice cream and sweets are sold (we liked picking up some old-fashioned candies on the way out), and there's an area a bit further to the back-left that has a deli-type counter with an interesting menu offering panini, salads, sandwiches and other savory goodies. They also sell an assortment of interesting gourmet food items and cookbooks including imported specialties. I went for an avocado and chicken salad sandwich which was excellent. Everything was well-seasoned and the bread was nice and fresh. I was even kind of impressed/surprised that it was served with a generous portion of Terra chips on the side. If you're in Corning looking for an interesting, relatively healthy lunch option, Old World Café would be a great choice! read more

What a great place! I didn't even know about the wonders of Corning. I just happened to stop there. And then, after a set of fortuitous circumstances led me to look for a bathroom around Market Street, I used the one in the visitors center, which led me to the Old Wold Cafe. I LOVE this place. Terrific food. Incredible ice cream. I wish I lived remotely close to Corning. I would love to go back here, and I have every intention of doing so should I ever be in the vicinity again. And talk about Old World, I love the trust this place has in its customers. Payment comes at the end of one's meal (normal for a restaurant, but this or more of a cafe). Customers could very, very easily stiff the cafe on the bill, but you can tell they don't. Terrific. Definitely go here if you are in Corning either for the glass museum or just need a pit stop during your journey elsewhere. read more

I love vintage style restaurants and cafes. Old World hits the nail right on the head with this one! Huge sandwiches, great menu selection for lunch. Good salads, good ice cream, good candy and GREAT pies. The atmosphere is really cool and when it is nice you can walk right outside and sit on Centerway Square. I can't complain, but the ordering/paying and counter area gets a bit crowded. I wish there was a better way to go through the process. Overall a great choice for lunch or dessert! read more

Ive had a few different things like the chicken bruschetta sandwich in the tomato wrap, The Mediterranean turkey, roasted peppers,olive tapenade, lettuce, & feta cheese dressing, are the two most recent I have had and they were excellent.
