Needed to get a battery quick for my FOB, was told there was one on Harlem Avenue, used Waze for directions. Went by Old Eitld Pizza and it caught my eye. Looked old school style pizza joint. After taking care of my Fob, turned into Old World Pizza. Was greeted by Lucinda or as she liked to be called "Cinda". A lady with a great personality. I informed her it was my first time in this establishment. Just wanted to try a slice of Pizza to go. She couldn't offer me the lunch special since it was past Two. I told her that's okay, I'll remember it for next time. Seems this place has been around over 30 years!!! Ordered a slice of Sausage Pizza to go and told me if comes with a drink so I typically have dropped drinking soda's but asked for a ginger ale for another time. Place had personality & charm, like Cinda. Definitely coming back or catering a luncheon for my clients. Pizza was delicious! Mangia & Cheers!

The Double Deck Pie

On Friday I placed an order on the phone for carry out. I go to pick it up. 1. They didn't put my order in to cook. What I do appreciate was the owner gave me a discount and free delivery so I wouldn't wait another hour. I was like ok nice service. So me waiting at home and my kids and I wanting to eat the double decker that we saw on instagram. My delivery came to my house and one thing I notice the large box looked more like a small or medium box. Then we open the box and OMG the pizza was extra extra extra burnt and crispy. Had to kinda of forced my kids to take some bites cause they were hungry. At the end I have to cook them something different because you can taste the burnt. Not pleased of the whole experience that day

Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich

Ordered takeout today and the service was fine. They answered the phone quickly and my chicken parm sandwich was made quickly. The sandwich was pretty awesome - lots of melted cheese and the chicken breast was hearty. It could e used a bit more sauce, though. The restaurant area looked OK, some art on the walls. So, might try eat in next time. Good first experience with the food.

The pizza is great--they use generous portions of toppings. The sandwiches have all been tasty as well. We've only done takeout, but it's always hot, ready on time, and leaves me with a smile.

Upside cash back
Thomas G.

A few reasons why I ordered from 'The Original Old World Pizza - Elmwood Park' was because Upside offered a 17% cash back offer, its location being close to a nearby trail I just ran on, and its family-owned vibe won me over compared to another pizza restaurant in the area. I called in to order prior to leaving the trail rather than ordering once I arrived which went well. I ordered a ravioli (cheese) w/ garlic bread, and an orange crush soda. Nothing else caught my eye at the time, but if I were to have ordered something else other than ravioli, it would have been a 6" individual pan cheese pizza. There is nothing eye-catchy about the exterior of the restaurant, the exterior design blends in well with the neighboring businesses and restaurants. In spite of the parking lot being shared with other businesses and restaurants in the plaza, I had no issues whatsoever finding a parking spot. In spite of me visiting The Original Old World Pizza - Elmwood Park just to pick up takeout, I felt very welcome inside. I categorize it more as a fast casual style of a restaurant with a mom-and-pop vibe. If you wish to dine-in, there is seating available in the dining area, with a television for viewing pleasure as you eat. Atmosphere: 3 1/2 (Okay/ Good) I was acknowledged as soon as I walked up to the counter to confirm my order for pick-up which awaited me. The older woman that assisted me made sure I received everything ordered. She even gave me a clearer receipt which I requested and needed in order to redeem the cash back offer via Upside. Service: 4 (Good) Mmm, I enjoyed the first bite until the last of the cheese ravioli. And honey, I tell you what? It certainly will not be the last time I order cheese ravioli, yasss! I am thankful that I considered it because I would not have had the opportunity to taste this goodness. I do wish that the garlic bread had more of a garlicky taste to it which would have gone well with the ravioli, but I am not complaining. I dipped it into the homemade signature marinara sauce that the ravioli was topped with. Food: 4 (Good) Being that I had a good experience, I would gladly order from The Original Old World Pizza - Elmwood Park again when in the area. Atmosphere: 3 1/2 | Service: 4 | Food: 4 ~ Live. Laugh. Love. ~ Thomas G

My rating still stands. It was not in error. I may have misstated the price, but the product was still sad.

Johnnie's is an icon, just based on the experience of listening to that guy talk. Ah, but he's long gone, and new ownership abounds. But the beef is still great. One of the best beef sandwiches around, combos that are seasoned just right, and Italian ice That hits the spot on a hot summer day. I think the hot dogs are just a throw in, and the fries are decent. But it's the beef that keeps bringing you back. Not much ambiance, unless you want to stand and watch the cars roll by on North Avenue, but the smell of the sausage cooking is intoxicating. The price of the beef has gone up, and I swear it's a tad smaller, but if you're in the neighborhood, nothing hits the spot quite like a Johnnie's beef sandwich. I can still hear the big guy...."Whaddah need, gimmie a beef, wet, sweet and hot, That'l be nine fiffy two, bag it, next!" I miss him...

Johnnie's Beef is known. It has a reputation. One that it upholds with every hot dog and beef…read moresandwich they serve. You've undoubtedly heard the rumors and they are true! Choosing an "off" night (example: a weeknight) or during a less-than-ideal time (example: during a snowstorm) will give you the quickest experience for Johnnie's as the line can get LONG and parking is terrible (tiny lot). Note: this was my second visit as my first attempt, on Father's Day 2025, was a magnificent bust. We had no line and plenty of seating this time! They have a big menu, but save the cute stuff for a follow-up visit and get a beef (& hot dog is really hungry). Do yourself a favor and get an Italian Ice too, time of year is irrelevant. You can thank me after your tastebuds recover from being overwhelmed. Is the food THAT much better than other spots, you ask? Not handedly, no. But the whole experience, especially if you wait in line (in the sun as there is zero shade), is what makes this place great. It really is a delightful Chicago experience. Put Johnnie's at the top of your list this summer, plan accordingly, and ENJOY!

There's a two-sided counter in the middle with freezer and refrigerator cases full of deliciousness on one side and the sandwich and cold case items, like macaroni salad, eggplant rolls, marinated olives, etc. on the other. I had the Italian sub, and our group also ordered an Italian Beef and a Meatball sub, plus some macaroni salad to share. All were made to order and were delicious. We didn't have a cooler with us of we'd have picked up the lasagna as recommended by a man picking up dinner for guests and his wife, or some of the fresh sausages or meatballs. Highly recommend eating here in general and definitely before going to nearby Rolling Stones or HIP!

Maybe because it already receives so much positive attention, it hardly needs my two cents. But after this latest visit, I decided to "pile on" with my love for this place. First, I must alert you to pay attention to their hours, because they are closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I kicked myself at least once, when I made the 40 minutes drive from home, just to find that I forgot that they were closed that day. This store is a double threat - offering a great take home Italian deli with a plethora of fresh and frozen items for you to prepare at home. This is also a great spot for lunch, with legendary sub sandwiches, and an array of hot dishes to choose from. I often do both. On this visit, from the deli, I picked up some of their marvelous, thinly sliced breaded eggplant, which I always get when I'm there. I bring some to my ex-wife and daughter who love it as well. Just give it a quick cook in the oven, and it's delicious. I also got some of their marvelous breaded potato salad, which is old-fashioned homemade style. From the hot bar, I got a couple of Italian sausage and some meatballs. I buy these ready to eat, but take them home to use for dinners later. That way I don't have to cook them. Obviously, they offer both meatballs and Italian sausage in fresh or frozen as well, which I get when I'm preparing my mom's spaghetti recipe. This time, I decided to try a quart of their frozen Nottoli homemade marinara, which I hadn't tried before. So delicious! I had pasta and spaghetti with sausage that night, and pasta and meatballs the next. On my various trips here, besides the Italian sausage that they are famous for, as well as the meatballs, I like their olives and other salad items, the sandwiches, brocciole, and many other hot Italian dishes for lunch. The rigatoni w/vodka sauce is a killer. Finally, the people have always been wonderful , which is very important to me. Despite being busy, it is well organized and you're in and out of there in no time (or you can sit at the table inside if you want to eat in). The prices are extremely reasonable, and I'm always pleased about the value I get for such a good price. I apologize for no pictures on this review. I always just seem to be focused on my own mouth watering choices, as opposed to a Yelp review when I come here.

The rainbow rolls consisted of plain, uncooked vegetables wrapped in rice paper, accompanied by peanut sauce as well as a vinegar dip. There was absolutely no taste to the rainbow rolls, and the peanut sauce tasted like peanut butter that had been microwaved for twenty seconds. The vinegar dip was the only thing that salvaged the rolls. The teriyaki did not come as advertised. There were chunks of glazed soy in brown rice - no other veggies in the bowl itself. There was a side salad that I dumped into the bowl to add some crunch and texture. The glazed soy was tasty but the rice was remarkably bland and mushy. This regime of blandness continued with the Burmese noodle salad: some of the flavours had potential and the dish might have been tastier if those flavours were accentuated, but instead it was a bowl of noodles and assorted vegetables with no compelling taste or texture. The cheesecake was both too sweet and remarkably bitter at the same time. It was fine texturally but the sweetness was overwhelming. The layer of tea on top of the cheesecake added some bitterness. The two flavours were totally incongruous. I have never wasted dessert before - if I can't finish it I take it home, but this dessert was so inedible that even at nine dollars it was not worth salvaging. Service was fine and the food came out quickly. The location of the restaurant in downtown Oak Park was nice - there was some sort of music festival going on outside that made an otherwise aggressively mediocre meal more bearable. Overall, I do not recommend this establishment.

At first, I was a little unsure how it worked since there's a service counter, but staff quickly greeted us and showed us to a table. Table service was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the Double Medianoche--pulled pork, ham, mustard, Swiss cheese, and sweet pickles, all pressed panini‑style. My friend went with the Pan con Croqueta, a ham and cheese sandwich topped with a ham croquette. For anyone unfamiliar (myself included), croquetas are minced pork that's breaded and deep‑fried. Both sandwiches were solid, but the Medianoche was the clear winner for me--warm, flavorful, and perfectly pressed. With so many options on the menu, there's plenty more I want to try.
