What a fabulous place! Reminded me of bars in North Park. The bar is in a cute little house which it turns out was a Sear's house from quite a ways back. The staff is super friendly!! Our girl Jennifer took care of us every time we visited and she was fabulous. But again, everyone was great. They had live music on Saturday night and the musician (John - forgot last name) had a wonderful voice and was a true entertainer. We would absolutely want to see him again. If you want a good drink, friendly service with an overall chill vibe, you have to stop in. They do not have food (except some bar snacks) but you can order in/bring your own food and that is what we did. Don't miss out on this treasure if you are in the area.

This is one of the happiest gut calls I've made in a long time! My friend was in town in CLT and wanted to meet halfway between CLT and Winston. What's halfway Salisbury, and what's in Salisbury... Shug's!! This place was great! It has a local bar feel with an inviting ambiance and very friendly staff! The burger and drinks I had there were delicious all around and I would definitely come back for the cocktails they had! Personally I think the Buffalo Chicken Egg roll was a pass for me. It was dry in the middle and seemed to lack flavor, but the buffalo it came with was quite good. Also in the back there was a cigar lounge available. If you're nearby check this place out, I would definitely love to come back at some point!

this is what happens when an amendment-era cocktail lounge relocates to a random part of town in the transitional south. prominent "Adults Only" signage suggests something tawdry is in the works but it's actually much simpler than that, it just means no ifs, ands, or children. more to the point though: the music is just a little too loud and late century, but actually separated stereophonically... the lights are soft but not so low that reading the menus or the room is difficult... the barkeep is good natured and gracious and she pours an honest pint: the FlaMango cider is literally sweet water in the finest tradition except not pink... fancy foods on the menu plus hotdogs and art on the walls in unknowing homage to The Last Call in 1980's Roselle but without the blue lighting or the basement bar, alas... it took just a minute to settle in but we're good with Ellis on this side of the bar discussing hot meals and cool climates while in the midst of something else entirely. seating options vary from firm bar stools to quiet cushioned couches besides plenty of outside-furniture outside with some restrictions on drink that I don't quite understand and umbrellas that I do. rounding up because there's no reason not to and I am assured that some different art will adorn the walls in due time, to quote the barkeep "it's not usually this naked here, it's just this month's featured artist..."

Bar which is the heart of the business in an old house. Tables to eat food on limited food menu with quality items. Philly Cheese Stake egg rolls hit a home run. The sweet pepper in it made the egg roll stand out, as super tasty. Not much cheese in it but that ratio works to it's favor / flavor. Place to listen to live music or whatever they broadcast. Juke box in the form of a wooden barrel, unique. Nice cliental and staff. Very accommodating. Owner explained the rotating offerings, passionately. to play in addition to ring catch challenge games at several tables. Place to come and enjoy some downtime and socializing. Philly Cheese Steak was very flavorful -- Ramp on backside for handicap accessibility. -- People started filling the place around 5:30pm plus so plenty of others must think highly of the establishment too

If you're looking for a fun, casual, classy place to listen to some GOOD live music, have some nice drinks, and eat delicious food, then Shug's is for you! Pronounced like the abbreviation for "sugar," Shug's is an adorable downtown home renovated into a beautiful speakeasy style bar. The seating is great for the size of the place, but come early if you want to sit by the stage. There was a reasonable cover charge for the live music. The food was AMAZING. We enjoyed Italian egg rolls and deconstructed deviled eggs. The drinks were also affordable and high quality, and there was a lot of selection, from local to regional to national. The service was great, too. Very enjoyable experience!

We brought new friends this year who absolutely loved it also. We had reservations which I highly recommend. They were swamped when we got there. Service was a little slow, and they weren't as attentive as we necessarily would've liked, however it would not stop us from coming back. They had several big parties in and we just enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe. What we got: Special cocktails and smoked old fashioned 100/10. My friend said it was the best smoked old fashioned he's ever had. Started with Flatbread, which was great. 10/10 It was the flatbread of the day, mozzarella, pesto and prosciutto. My friend and I had the Salmon. 9/10 It was perfectly cooked over sautéed spinach. I personally think a little something else with it would be nice. If you're really hungry, it wouldn't be enough food, but it was a perfect healthy option I was looking for. My friend got the butter chicken 100/10. Absolutely fantastic. Just spicy enough but not too much. I am a wimp and I loved it. Two others got the Katsu Chicken 100/10. This was the standout!! Perfectly crisp chicken breast cutlets, mashed potatoes, fresh perfectly cooked green beans, and a mushroom gravy. I wished I got this and will next time! Dessert: Key lime pie 5/10, just ok. Tasted more like a lemon bar to me. Tiramisu 10/10. Light, tasty, wonderfully done.

The hostess/server immediately greeted us and offered us a seat at the bar or a table. She was so friendly and told us the specials when she gave us menus. I tried one, the buchanan martini, which was amazing and then went with one of their signature cocktails, the passion and smoke. While we waited for drinks, we looked at all the flapper and prohibition-esque art. Such a cool vibe. Don't know how this place only has 10 reviews. HIGHLY recommend. Not too busy on a Friday night either.

The space is cozy with a great atmosphere, and they have a nice selection of drinks at the bar, beer, wine, cocktails and THC Drinks. The only downside is that it can get crowded pretty quickly and it is a walk no matter where you park. So be prepared if you're attending a popular event. This past weekend, I went for their Bastille Day celebration, and it was fantastic! They had delicious food from Breakfast in Paris, beautiful aerial performances, local art including caricatures, and live jazz music that made the whole evening feel festive and unique. It was a well-rounded event with something for everyone. You can tell this place is locally-owned and locals enjoy it. If you're looking for a local spot that hosts creative community events in addition to having a great bar, the Continental Club is definitely worth checking out. Housed in part of an old mill, it makes for an incredibly unique space. The club is broken up into two spaces, a gallery and the bar. The bar is incredibly eclectic, with so much fun and interesting decor to look at. The bar also has a full bar, though the drink prices are on the higher side. The bar tender was very friendly and quick at getting drinks made. They also have a full size piano for music, and I'm told other performers will also bring their own instruments for events to have live music. The parking lot is a bit tight, and shared spots with the Back Table. So some may need to find street parking depending on the size of the event. They don't serve food and my only real complaint is about the lighting. They have a lot of red and blue lights, which may be apparent based on the photos, but when it comes to looking at art, it may be hard to see because of the distortion from the lighting.

We did make reservations for a Monday night, though it wasn't busy at all, so you could probably swing by on a whim should you want to during the week. The place was a bit elusive to find, as you have to look for the '3 dot sign' with a staff member guarding the door, which I'm sure is the intent! Once you enter, you walk down a long, candlelit hall, which sets the speakeasy mood right away. Upon entering, the classic speakeasy vibe hits you! Dim lighting, leather chairs, a beautiful bar stocked to the brim with whiskey, bourbon, scotch, and all the other good things you would expect to find in a place that prides itself on great cocktails. It certainly set the mood and got us ready to have an experience. The mixologists were welcoming and informative. I enjoyed my first drink, which was suggested based on my personal preferences in taste. It was a spin off a classic, and I really enjoyed it. Sort of like a cross of a penicillin and a whiskey sour. [The Never Ending Story]. My friend had the clarified punch since we had similar things we've loved in the past. It was slightly sweet, smooth, and easy to sip. We decided to just get some classics since the cocktail menu felt more like just off shots of other classics we love. They were both excluded well! But the thing that really blew us away was the food! I was really pleased with this portion of our evening! We had the crispy Brussels sprouts, and they were the best BSs I've ever had! I thought we'd take some home, but that did not happen! My friend got the Mushroom Casarecce. It was creamy and delicious! The beef carpaccio was also really nice. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Despite having reservations, the arrival and seating process felt disorganized. Our server was very friendly and sweet, but she was also somewhat aloof, rarely checked on us, and didn't seem particularly knowledgeable about the kitchen or menu. She mentioned at least five times that they had a new chef and that the menu had become "eclectic." In retrospect, that should have been a warning. Unfortunately, we did not have a single item of food that we would order again. At this price point, that is unacceptable--especially when outstanding premium restaurants such as Seaboy are literally just down the road. We started with a fried rice-ball appetizer and a mozzarella plate. Both desperately needed seasoning and were surprisingly bland. My Caesar salad was tiny, limp, and somehow almost entirely flavorless. My wife ordered a fried game-bird entrée--quail, if I remember correctly. I can't say exactly what went wrong in the kitchen, but the coating had the stale-oil flavor of McDonald's fries discovered three months too late. The accompanying sauce was murky, visually unappealing, and did absolutely nothing to rescue the dish. I love fried chicken, and even I couldn't eat hers. When our server cleared the plate, approximately 95% of the entrée was still sitting there. The server asked if my wife didn't like it, and she commented that it was not very good and explained why, yet they did not offer to make any changes or even discount that part of the bill which felt like a significant missed opportunity to address an obviously unsuccessful dish. I ordered the trout. Even allowing for the smaller portions common at upscale restaurants, it was one of the smallest entrées I have ever been served. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver enough flavor or refinement to make up for its size. By the time dessert was offered, we had no interest in spending more money after being disappointed by the appetizers, salads, and entrées. The beautiful historic home, atmosphere, and front-porch dining remain fantastic. Sadly, the food and overall experience no longer lived up to that wonderful setting. Our first visit was mind-blowing. This visit ensured that we won't return. Unless a massive sign appears out front announcing new management, a new chef, new staff, and an entirely new everything, we will spend our future anniversary dinners elsewhere. To those about to nosh, you have been warned.
