I am going to address the worst part of this review first. TripAdvisor does not make it easy to post a review. First, they asked for the city.... that was no problem. When asked for a type of business, and we entered 'Restaurant' as advised... only Reno and Tahoe ones popped up... We tried Casino to no avail. But we finally just typed in 'Ole Ole' and found it! Now for good stuff: A dear sister in Christ brought us here last November. As retirees we love the fact that they open at 4 pm... before all the business folks and families arrive... as we sometimes have trouble negotiating around crowds with our canes and wheelchairs. We instantly fell in love with the quaint atmosphere, the wonderful service we have received from Shandra and Debbie, but mostly it was a total sell out of our taste buds once we recovered from the very first bite enough to say: we'll be back! We have come back every month... and will continue to do so... We are a disabled senior couple, photos included, on a fixed social 'insecurity' income. We can only afford to go out to dinner once a month. Of all the places within a 100-mile radius, we pick 'Ole Ole'. Now about that Quesadilla Especial... while other items on the menu have gone up in price this one is holding tight to a mere $10.99. Before your food ever arrives you are presented with your beverages of choice and a huge basket of tortilla chips with two types of mouth-watering 'house special' salsas. We have started sending the those away to make room for our heart's desire. You will get your choice of ground beef, shredded beef, or chicken. We love the chicken! They mix in just the perfect amount of pepper- jack cheese, onions, and pico de gallo, over one inch high, see the photo where we used a packet of Splenda (no one had a ruler or tape measure) to show how much this tortilla holds. That's right, this is all inside a lightly grilled buttery flavored flour tortilla, filled right up to the very edge, cheese still hot and oozing out, served with a very large scoop of sour cream and guacamole. As if that is not enough, the remainder of the exposed plate is drenched in cheese topped refried beans alongside a generous portion of Spanish rice. We both have healthy appetites but have yet to leave and not need a to-go box! Even hours later (or the next day if our taste buds can wait that long), microwaved or cold... they are delicious! Do not just take our word... Go! Venture into the Gold Dust West Casino... near the bowling alley... and for a while at least, you just may forget that the rest of the world exists! And NO... we are not related to, paid by, or bribed by anyone at this establishment. This review was totally on our own! If we can bear it, we may experiment on our next trip and try something new from the menu. That sizzling plater of beef smelled wonderful...and as we looked on to other tables as they were served... we said in unison: "Next time.... and still order the quesadilla to-go." 7/15/2023.. Right near the freeway.. and decided to stop by. I can't believe it's been four years since dining here.. way before COVID times... I enjoyed the previous visits, because they fried the chips and had different salsa's along with a jalapeño slaw .. First bad sign... chips we're packaged.. (not good for someone who can live on chips & salsa).. Menu- changed quite a bit- they used to have a lunch special that you could order a one item entree.. selection was limited.. Three other tables were filled, but when you walked in.. there was no scent of food being cooked.. Prices were reasonable and the quantity of food is great!-- $13.99 an entree- if the food had any flavor..(which sadly it did not).. Entree of the chicken rings tacos (3 of them).. filled to the max with shredded chicken and tomatoes and slaw.. rice and beans- rice was very dry., Same went with the carnitas taco entree.. no flavor-.. Double wrapped tacos and filled but no flavor.. even with scoops of the salsa.. Service was good .. If they brought back the original menu and chefs, I would come back..... I would probably give negative stars for the food. Daughter's chimichanga was more like a bland burrito. It was not crispy at all. My wife and my chimichangas were terrible. The carnitas was dry as dry could be. I dumped a whole container of salsa on mine just to give it flavor. We asked for extra crispy and it was just crispy. The prices were very expensive. $15.99 for a mediocre/chimichanga. The reason I am giving 1 star is the food was -4 stars but the service was 5 stars. read more

Not a good experience. Asked for a table was told there was a half hour wait. The restaurant was half full at best with numerous empty tables. Sat in the bar to wait. No one asked if I wanted anything so I went to the bar to order a drink. There were 4 people sitting there. The useless bartender ignored me as she could not multi task. She didn't even acknowledge me with a nod or greeting. After waiting 10 minutes for her I got tired and returned to my seat anticipating she would come take my order. Nope. She continued to ignore me although it was obvious that I had wanted to order. She started putting away glasses and wiping the counter. I never did get to order. Just finished dinner. I hate to do this but I wanted to send a message, if it's not broken don't fix it. This was my favorite Mexican Restaurant because of the food and the staff. The staff is still wonderful but they have changed cooks and recipes. The cabbage salsa is not anywhere near what it used to be. The biggest offense is they changed the Carne Asada. We have been going here for several years and it has always been my favorite. They have gradually been reducing the size of the meat you get and now they have changed the recipe all together. The last 3 times I ordered this, I have decided I just can't do it anymore. The overwhelming taste of lime is a major turn off, so much so this dish has been removed from my will order and probably the restaurant as well. read more

They treat the customers like they're doing them a favor just being there. Left a group standing at the host station for 15 minutes, not one person said a thing. When I chased someone down, the snarky answer was someone will be with you in a minute. There were only 3 occupied tables in the place. Wow! This place really suprised me. I'm not usually a fan of casino restaurants unless they're in Vegas but this place is a gem. The chicken fajitas are seasoned perfectly, not bland like everywhere else the best I have had in the area, including Reno. Packed with meat not peppers and onions. Portions are HUGE! Drinks were delish. They use Azul or Jose tequila as their base tequila. Beers were $3 each. For 2 beers, 1 cocktail, chicken fajitas and a chimichanga the bill totalled $39. Tonight I had an unexpected dinner at Olé Ole in the Gold Dust West Casino in Carson City. We did not even know this place existed, we chanced up on it while traveling through town and wow am I glad we did. In a town simply packed full of small, authentic Mexican restaurants and Taquerías, it was amazing to us that a casino would choose to open yet another place serving Mexican food, but after eating here, my companion and I feel that this savvy casino knew exactly what they were doing opening Olé Ole on April 1 of this year. I remember going to this location many years ago when it was the Steak House; it was very beautiful then, and it's no less attractive now. We were immediately impressed with the nice atmosphere, which was not the kitschy American Mexican look we were expecting. We were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess, and then our waitress came IMMEDIATELY with water and with a big, bright smile, proceeded to take our drink order and bring it back faster than you can say "wow, she's great!" They're having a $2.99 special on the house margarita, so that's what we ordered. On the rocks, no salt. It was, quite simply, the best margarita I've had in a very long time. It's completely house made with agave nectar and lime and it was out of this world, especially for only $2.99 (I had two!) A house made red salsa, tomatillo salsa, and Mexican slaw were quickly brought to our table along with a big basket of warm chips. They were all very tasty, but the BEST was the guacamole we ordered, which was speedily, cheerfully and expertly made tableside by the world's nicest waitress. (Jenny, Queen of the Flying Avocado, you rocked!) It was hard to choose from this menu, which we felt had great prices, and surprising choices; we finally settled on the Chile Rellenos ($9.99) and the Sizzling Fajita Combo ($12.99). The Rellenos were fantastic. Two large poblano chilies were stuffed with oaxaca cheese, dipped in a wonderful tasting batter and fried a delightful golden brown. The chilies were cooked perfectly, and the cheese was oozingly delicious. They were topped with a very yummy jalapeno cream cheese sauce and served with a nice Spanish rice and beans that had a decidedly chunky texture, which I liked. The Fajita plate had an amazing amount of very tasty, perfectly cooked chicken, steak and shrimp. Normally on a plate like this you get a lot of onion and bell pepper, and not much meat; here, it was the opposite. There were more shrimp on there than I could believe, all cooked and seasoned perfectly. This dish also came with rice, beans, yet more guacamole, sour cream and tortillas. The deserts our neighbors were having looked fantastic but we just could not fit in another bite; will have to try those another time. I can tell you that for being in a casino, and especially for the price, we were deeply impressed with this new restaurant, both in food and service. The hostess said they might start up a happy hour; I hope they do, because this would be the town in which to do it. They are off to a great start. I hope that when we come through town again that Olé Ole is still doing such a great job with their service and food, because this was a fun, delicious way to spend a weeknight, and I very much look forward to coming here again, even if it's just for chips and margaritas, any night of the week! read more

I always order their beef fajitas with rice and beans. Not only the best fajitas in town... the rice is perfection. I've ordered extra rice and eaten it the next day for breakfast. It's that yummy! I also love that they don't overgrill (is that a word?) the red and green bell peppers or the onions. I recently tried carry out and remembered why I love their food! Comes with all of the extra goodies you'd expect and some surprises too. If you love good Mexican food I highly recommend Ole Ole. It's worth it! read more

Met a friend for dinner last-night... We decided on Ole' Ole' as she had never been and my very past visits there were good. Basket of chips were fresh and the very small triangle shaped dishes of salsa were ok. My only complaint about the way they serve their salsas are the tiny triangle shaped dishes they serve it in. You can barley dip the corner of your chip in them... We asked our waitress what she liked that night on the menu and she suggested the fish tacos and the way she described them sounded really good. Our plates came out and it looked amazing! I took one bite and thought "what is it that i'm tasting" My friend tasted the same thing. I took a few more bites and realized they had some kind of slimy pickled cabbage in them. I scraped out what i could but it really didn't get the taste out. And because of the slimy sour slaw it made the tortillas weak and soggy! It took forever for our waitress to come back as she was serving a very large table. I flagged her a few times and she just kept saying "I will be over in a minute". She finally came over and i explained my dislike for the dish i ordered. Her first comment was "do you want me to get the supervisor out here" I responded "no" and thought that was a very unnecessary abrupt response. I just wanted her to take my plate and wanted to order something else. I ended up ordering an "a la carte chile relleno". By the time it came out we really just wanted to leave. My friend only ate one of her 3 tacos and the waitress never even offered to take it off the bill... When the waitress brought our bill she wanted to boast about how she took the one dish off the total because the supervisor had looked at the plate i sent back and she could see i didn't eat anything off it but a few bites... By far the worst Mexican food I've ever had in Carson and the surrounding areas. Needless to say we won't be returning nor will i ever recommend... read more

I've visited Olé Olé on a few different occasions and it's time I give them some praise! For starters, they have amazing chips and salsa here. These crispy tortilla strips are certainly noteworthy and are served with a unique cabbage slaw and tangy red and savory green salsa. The service has been excellent each time I've dined in. With my most recent visit, a few mistakes occurred with our order, but the server went above and beyond to correct the issues and offered us very attentive service. Our dishes were delivered within minutes! Likely one of the fastest order to table times I've ever experienced. My signature Mexican food order, cheese enchiladas, did not disappoint. Their enchilada sauce is delicious! The tacos were excellent as well. The tortilla shell was fried to perfection and was garnished with cotija cheese and fresh veggies. In my opinion, the only downside about Olé Olé is having to walk through the smokey casino to access the restaurant. Smoke ventilation is very poor in this casino, so I literally speed walk to and from the restaurant to avoid smelling like an ashtray. read more

This listing was under Bars so I couldn't find it as a restaurant on Yelp on my iPhone. It's located in a building consisting of a hotel, casino and bowling area. It definitely caught my eye when we first walked in and looked more like my kinda place than the other restaurant they had to offer. We walked in and were greeted by the bartender but it was so dim that I couldn't really see her expression. The hostess stand is in the middle of the restaurant after you pass a couple tables in the bar area. We were sat at a booth and given menus. It was still happy hour so I went for the margarita that wasn't really strong but it WAS happy hour. I ordered the two plate combo with a beef flauta and a chicken tostada with a side of sour cream. I'd have to say it was OK. I didn't finish it. The meat was lacking any flavor. I didn't want to complain but the server noticed I didn't eat much of my meal and offered me a free dessert. I was eyeing the sopapillas and so I ordered those. Call me simple and cheap but they were nothing like Chevy's. The salmon was moist, however, I ordered it for the mango salsa and they didn't have any and didn't inform me before I received it. I was offered salsa in it place with a squeeze of lime. This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. I highly recommend the tableside guacamole, which is absolutely the best I ever had and made fresh at the table! The chips are fresh and hot and spicy/flavorful salsa was available upon seating. Fast/ friendly service was available, but most importantly the food was FRESH. I ordered the shrimp tacos, which had beautiful fresh tangy flavor's and taco filling was abundant. The tacos are fully loaded with fresh ingredients (i.e. shrimp slaw sauce) and they were very tasty. Beans, rice everything fresh and tasty. Overall I would say my favorite was the tableside guacamole with a beer (they only offer traditional Mexican bottled beer). I can't wait to go back and recommend this gem to others! read more

I had no idea I would find such good mexican food in Carson City! This place is awesome! Its very nice inside, well decorated, nice design, and clean. The service was excellent. I ate here twice during my stay and the service from every employee I came across was great. Now on to the most important part, the food! The chips and salsa were very good, but the real star was the shrimp enchiladas with the jalapeño cream sauce. Oh my god. Get in my belly! My mouth is watering just thinking of that tasty flavor explosion! Also worth mentioning are the house margaritas. They are stellar, probably because they make them with a house made sweet and sour mix, and only $5 a pop? Whaaaaat?! That's a steal. The salsas absolutely SUCKED~ every single one of them. The chips were fantastic but without even semi-decent salsa, I don't eat them. 1. The funky coleslaw-onion crap...what the hell is that? GROSS!! 2. The red salsa literally looked like the opened a can of diced tomatoes and dumped them in the bowl-no spice, no taste,bleh... 3. the green salsa was better (read: edible) but where was the heat?!?! Do any actual Hispanics work here? We ordered a side of the habanero salsa and Jesus H. Christ! I don't know what the hell it was but it looked like minced cat food and although it was hot, it didn't have any flavor other than excruciating heat. There has to be a happy medium. The shredded beef Miguel's burrito with red sauce was pretty good and huge portions left us plenty of leftovers. The margaritas we got at the bar had no alcohol that we could taste and I didn't have any buzz whatsoever, so that was a waste of $12.00 for two drinks. Overall: Good Mexican place. Didn't expect that much honestly, but was very pleasantly surprised. Food: Thick tortilla chips with salsa, tomitillo and mexican slaw as appetizer. Had the sizzling beef fajitas - came in three parts. First part was the sizzling iron plate with thinly sliced steak, onions and bell peppers. FLavor was excellent, came to the table still sizzling hot, more meat than expected, only problem was a few pieces of meat got overcooked while sitting on the hot skillet... so warning: less talking - more eating! Second part was the sides, creamy beans, mexican rice, guac, sour cream and some melted cheese - maybe ask on the side next time. Third part was a black container made to hold the flour tortillas - a lil thicker than i;m use to - but ok. BF had Miguel's burrito, steak, it was so creamy, melt in your mouth, changed the green sauce to red sauce, so good. Had a scoop of guac and sour cream on the side. Decor: Clean, lighting is dim, gives a nice ambiance, walk thru the bar area and into the dining area - felt like ur walking into an old mission. Love, love, love the interior! When you step in, you feel like you are completely disconnected from the casino which is nice. The service and prices are excellent and couldn't ask for more. We used the 2-1 promotional coupon and never got the feeling that we were cheap bastards so the money we saved went to margaritas and to a generous tip for the waitress. My friend had ordered the fajitas which smoked like crazy when it was brought out and we thought the fire alarm was going to go off but it was a great and interesting presentation to say the least. There were quite a few other patrons in the restaurant but our food came out very fast nonetheless. Will definitely go again. read more

First we didn't care for the Mexican coleslaw. That should've been the first clue. I ordered crunchy tacos with cilantro rice and black beans. I received soft tacos dripping in grease and the rice was so dry it was crunchy. Another one in our party ordered the chili relleno. It was breaded so thick that the bread part was not fully cooked. I know I am a little late in posting this since my visit! Well I don't have a lot to say about this place. Don't get me wrong it was good, but not the best that I have had. The menu is small and there was not a huge variety to choose from , which I like. Chips are good and salsa was good, the cabbage salsa stuff ( sorry do not know the name) was not fresh tasting and could use a little more flavor, could have just been a bad day, we all have those! Service was friendly and a decent pace. The carnitas were good, however the meat was super dry, but the flavors we're good and could have potential. The burrito my husband had was huge and ok to me, the sauce that was on it made the burrito soggy and I just don't do soggy and he did not enjoy it as much either. I suggest maybe getting the sauce on the side! We won't be in a hurry to come back, but Maybe give it another chance?! So many years ago, I got into a beef with Ole Ole over something as minor as flour tortillas. My update now? Ok, they've succeeded in changing their menu, revised their staff, cleaned up the riff raff that anchored their business to the ground. I'm actually here to say I enjoyed my dinner. I actually knew what my prices were and the waitress checked in on us more than periodically even with a group of twenty perched on a constructed seating arrangement and ordering everything with I knew would absorb the staff. She remembered we were there and made sure we were happy. Kudos to her! They've increased two stars just for service alone. The food wasn't a five star meal, I know, and you should realize that it's difficult though not impossible to emerge a five star restaurant in a casino, but it wasn't bad. I'll go again just on the service being satisfactory alone. read more

Staying at the RV park at the casino and just one of our three choices here was Ole' Ole'. To start the chips were the best ever; they are made fresh daily from tortilla dough and the three salsas included cole slaw mix for the faint at heart. The house Margarita would not be the best I've had, but for less than $5 it was more than adequate..... my wife enjoyed a second one. Since I'm not from here, I can't say if it is the best in the area, but I can say that it is as good as any I've had. We had the fish tacos and chicken fajitas. Both were delicious and plentiful. GOTTA SAY OLE' OLE' is just what this area has needed. The old standbys all around here, for Mexican food, have become typically dusty, and outdated. Pleases note that I, and my fellow diners are all Very Critical when dining out. The depth or our personal and professional experience, in food and beverage, is much more than I can make not of here. More than a breath of fresh air, our experience at Ole' Ole' was like a Most Welcome Mexican Monsoon of Meals Appetizers, Drinks and Dessert. Table side guacamole was a very nice touch, perfect in seasoning and texture. Jumping to dessert, the Mexican flan, was the genuine article, and perfection on the plate. Must disagree with another review here, as I found the carnitas to be the real deal (not the popular mis-interpretation found at qdoba and such places). I have found better carnitas only at one little "hole in the wall" place in Austin, TX. My friends had each of the fajita offerings, as well as most of the taco preparations. Raves All Around, without one negative comment. I love these friends, but their complaining when dining out sometimes drivew me nuts. Not so at the Ole' Ole'. Want a Good Margarita? Do yourself (and the bartender) a favor, and order a top shelf margarita. Ordering a house margarita and get a house margarita. No bartender can make a quality margarita when he has to use "Toms' Tequila with Tina's Triplesec". Have eaten here for years a year ago i would have given this establishment 5 stars. The food quality has really gone downhill in the last year or so. The salsa tastes like spaghetti sauce. The entrees are pretty much tasteless. The tableside guacamole was my favorite but now they are using a really poor quality avocado and the taste is gone. The soppapillas are still awesome. They do have some of the best servers in town (Rhonda rocks). Hope they can turn the food around I miss eating there. read more

After much deliberation (and reading Yelp reviews), we decided to try this Mexican place on our one night in Carson city. We were pleasantly surprised. After walking through the casino, you quickly forget that it's in a casino. Table-side guacamole was an excellent way to start. Margaritas were excellent, if a bit sweet. The special quesadilla went down well, and the carnitas were the best I've had. We tried the sopapillos for dessert, and we're also forcing ourselves to stop! We walked out with lunch for the next day and a very reasonable bill of $60 including 4 margs. Would go back if ever in Carson again. read more

I've had better (fresher) chips, but the rice, beans, carnitas, quesadilla and salsa were all very tasty. I gauge my Mexican food on the rice and it was great. I really liked the carnitas plate. It was moist, unlike some places that dry it out or don't offer it on the menu. It was Friday night and they set up our table of 12 quickly and with crayons for the children to color on place mats while waiting for their food. The place filled up after we were seated. Our server did a great job by herself with a somewhat large party. Not one complaint from our table! She allowed a few separate checks from a party our size. Hey, not bad! Not bad at all! Depending on which entrance you approach it, Olé Olé is tucked inside the Gold Dust West casino, with an ATM machine and the popular bowling alley on the right. Compared with the 24-hour Le Grille restaurant situated more centrally on the casino floor, it seems like the place is hardly open (only for dinner beginning at 4PM). Bigger than it seems, it presents a very pleasant atmosphere (for once, no mariachi music blasting). Service was prompt. The tortilla chips were good--freshly fried (i.e., not out of a bag) with a choice of red/green salsa and a spicy cole slaw. I opted for the Tacos de Pescado "Baja Style," which was a very generous portion of three tacos with battered cod and more of that spicy Mexican cole slaw with a white sauce, complimented w/rice and a dish of beans. What made it really great was the preparation of the corn tortillas, which, if done wrong, can be rubbery tasting. Not so in this case! Nicely prepared! read more
