Olea has some of the best pasta that I've had, definitely highly recommend if you're in the old city area! Just a heads up, this Mediterranean BYOB is also cash only, and reservations are recommended since it's pretty small and cozy inside (I'm estimating probably only 30 seats inside). I went there with a group of 4 and service was great (super friendly staff) - the meal starts with complimentary pita bread, hummus, and olives for the table to share, which were yummy. We also decided to go family style & ordered 4 pastas to share: the gnocchi, fettucine, rigatoni, and ravioli. Usually when it comes to pasta, I find that the flavor is typically pretty one-dimensional. However, the balanced flavors of the cacio e pepe rigatoni with the lobster and black truffle made it my favorite out of all the pastas! It was rich, but not overpowering. The ravioli (not pictured) also shines with its unmistakable goat cheese flavor. As a lactose intolerant girlie, I finished every bite of that rigatoni because it was sooo worth it. I'm definitely coming back again to try some of their other dishes!

Wow. One of the best meals I've had in some time. The rigatoni with lobster was sensational. A dish like this is easy to become too rich and complicated; this was perfectly balanced. The fettuccini with shrimp and pesto was excellent as well. Same with the artichoke appetizer. Dessert, while fine, was probably worth skipping. Ambiance was awesome: small place, quick service, attentive staff.

Came here with my family to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant itself is very intimate with only about 30 seats, so reservations are a must. We were greeted with a lovely set of olives, hummus, and pita bread, which were heavenly. For appetizers, we ordered the artichokes ($18, Garlic white wine, anchovies, lemon butter) and beets ($17, Arugula, feta, pecans, red onions). The beets were definitely the highlight! For mains, we shared the gnocchi ($28, Bell peppers, sausage, tomato sauce), ravioli ($29, with cream sauce) and salmon ($29, which came with some veggies). Out of these, the gnocchi was probably my favorite. The salmon was cooked very well (crispy on the outside but not dry on the inside). However, I will say that I felt the portions were quite small and we left not feeling entirely full. The service was impeccable, and felt like a very personalized unique experience. Overall, it was a special dining experience, but I felt that the portions were too small to justify the prices. Also, they are cash only, so just be aware!

We loved everything about Olea. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. The staff was top notch. The food was on point. My colleague and I had the ravioli and they were to die for. Others had the steak and mussels. Everyone was pleased with their meal. The next time we're in Philly, we will definitely go again!

$ CASH ONLY $ Super friend staff. Delicious food. I arrived at the first seating when they opened at 5pm. Was quickly seated, given water, menus, and the day's special. Our appetizers came out quickly hot and delicious. Only complaint was that the gnocchi was quite salty that we couldn't finish. Took it home to dilute. The peach salad from there special of the day was my favorite

This is a cozy spot in old city. Such an intimate space. The service was so prompt and we were taken good care of from the minute we walked in. Delicious hummus, pita and olives were delivered right away. We ordered two appetizers; the shrimp and the octopus. Both were very good but the octopus stood out. Lots of flavor. I ordered the whole branzino and my friend ordered the pork chop. Her pork chop was excellent with a tasty sauce and was very juicy. I enjoyed my branzino, but was wanting a bit more flavor, perhaps a sauce? However, It was cooked well and was flaky. The chocolate pot de creme at the end topped off the meal nicely. BYO, so don't forget the wine!

CASH ONLY Great food, nothing out of this world. Kind server A nice and quaint restaurant located in Old City. This is BYO, so that is a plus. We ordered a whole bunch of things and although all tasted good, i wasn't slapped in the face with their flavors. There is a an option where you can ask for 1/2 gnocchi and 1/2 ravioli if you want to try both and not break the bank. $30 Overall, good establishment.

The food here is so delicious. I was also amazed when the waiter went above and beyond. I had asked if I could substitute the barramundi sides with couscous but decided against it. I imagined the original pairing on the menu is probably better anyways. However, the waiter ended up bringing out a couscous side on the house and it just so happens to be the most delicious couscous dish I've ever had. (I promise it's not because it was complimentary). I love the way the pearl couscous was prepped - it has what tasted like chopped almonds and some cranberries and very refreshing seasoning. The barramundi was very delicate and buttery. It reminded me of a fancy tilapia. My friend got the bucatini and it was so delicious she finished it all! I would love to come back again. This place is ideal for dates as well. **This place is BYOB and Cash only.

Had dinner at Olea with my YELP friend, Anna last Thursday and had a great time! Our server was incredibly nice and made us feel so welcomed from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. We really felt as if we were treated like family when we were at Olea. To start, Anna and I shared an order of artichokes, which consisted of 4 pieces. The artichokes were delicious. They had a creamy texture and were very tender. For 2 people, this was enough since there was also the complimentary pita bread, hummus and olives for us to share. For our mains, I really wanted to try the pork chop that everyone is raving about, but ended up going with the Bucatini since I was starving and craving carbs. Anna went with the Barramundi that came with its own sides. She considered subbing out one of the sides for Couscous, which our server was happy to accommodate. In the end, Anna decided not to get the Couscous and to just stick with the dish's default sides, which sounded very appealing too. It did not take long for our food to arrive. As our server set our entrees in front of us, he brought over an extra side of Couscous for Anna on the house, which was super sweet and thoughtful of him. We both enjoyed our dishes. The food was delicious, but on a scale of 1-5, I would rate it a 4. Hospitality, on the other hand, was a 6/5. We were too full for desserts this time, but we definitely would love to come back again to Olea soon.

saw this restaurant as one of the best in old city, and I was not disappointed. This quaint lil place was byob and cash only. If you don't have cash you can use the atm at the market and get a bottle of wine there as well. We got a bottle joanna and the ambiance was so cozy and intimate. Luis made the experience so memorable! The food was incredible. Save room for the pistachio tiramisu, it will change your life. Thank you for an awesome meal. We will 100% be back!

Merion Park Labneh: this labneh is thicker than other restaurants which I really like actually. the photo I insert may be deceiving, as it looks chunky. rest assured, it's absolutely smooth, just a thicker consistency than most labnehs. the spices on it are so so good. I think this is a must get along with a hummus. me and my sister are vegetarian, we share a hummus and a labneh and are decently full after those. we also snack on some small plates for the table (fries and olives) and leave full. Israeli Pickles and Olives: comes with two ramekins filled with varying sized pickles, not pitted olives, and some tiny yellow peppers I *think* are either pepper-chinos or at the very least taste similar. they also come with a small ramekin for the olive pits. The yellow peppers are very spicy, but I loved them. the olives are green, and i'd consider them friendly olives for those who are particular around olives. pickles were great as expected. French Fries: easy order for the table. portion is large and I think $8 is a steal for the quantity and quality. comes with a yummy ketchup my sister loves (she is considered a ketchup hater). COCONUT MALABI: I did not know what to expect. and honestly, first bite I was a bit confused by the texture, but by the end, I really liked it. its a thick pudding consistency, smooth, has a decent bounce to it, not too sweet at all, subtle coconut flavor. has a strawberry (I think) jam situation on top with some sort of crunchy thing. will be getting that again for sure. we had three people split this and it was enough. would consider getting two for four people though. service was quick, efficient, and kind. love the atmosphere. it has a sort of lively fun vibe to it. also we were in and out pretty quick without being rushed at all which is nice. just efficient. What We Ordered - -Wagyu Dumplings - Filled with feta, onion, and lemon mint yogurt. Very good, rich and flavorful with a nice balance from the yogurt. -Crispy Rice - Topped with tuna, avocado, and olive. Also very good, with great texture contrast and fresh flavors. -The Spreads - Served with fresh pita bread and spiced rice crackers. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. -Shrimp Kadaifi - Very good. Crispy, flavorful, and a great starter. -Charred Octopus - A must-order dish. Extremely tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. -Lamb Ribs - Another standout item. The meat was incredibly tender and practically melted in your mouth. -Filet Mignon Kebab - Very good. Tender, well seasoned, and cooked perfectly. -Chilean Sea Bass - Flaky, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. -Lamb Chops - Cooked perfectly medium rare and paired with amazing layered potato fries. Easily one of the best dishes of the night and another must-order item. -Braised Short Rib - Served with dill bao buns and pickled onions. The short rib was rich, tender, and paired really well with the light acidity from the pickled onions and the soft bao buns. -Chicken - Served with basmati rice and packed with great flavor. Final Thoughts - This was an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was beautiful, the service was excellent, and every dish we ordered was delicious. It's not often that an entire table agrees on so many menu items, but Almyra delivered across the board. We would absolutely return again, and I would highly recommend it for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a memorable meal.

I had the opportunity to visit Greece for the first time a few years ago, and while I always liked…read moreGreek/Mediterranean food, the trip 'heightened my senses', and I now seek out the food I enjoyed so much during my visit. Almyra - I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago, I didn't know it was there. I thought, 'looks very nice, I'll have to try it'. The restaurant, which features 'modern Greek' is part of the Estia Group, which includes 7 restaurants - 3 of which are in Philly (Estia and Pietro's are the other two). I went for dinner this evening on a Wednesday, and there was a good crowd - the restaurant is quite large, and it's decorated beautifully. I started with three of the Spreads - Smoked Eggplant, Beet, and Hummus. It was wonderful trying these 3 - I spread them on the pita and crispy rice crackers - and tried them separately - spoonful by spoonful, to really taste the differences. The Edamame Hummus has a unique flavor and texture with tahini and garlic. The Beet features roasted beets blended with labneh and garlic and topped with pistachio and feta. The Smoked Eggplant with peppers and balsamic rounds out the 3 with a deep, smoky flavor and a soft, smooth texture. I always look for 'classic' Spanakopita these days, but rarely find it. The dish at Almyra was labeled 'Spanakopita Manti' - I asked my server, what that was. She said it was a favorite of hers, a fried 'flower shaped' pastry filled with blended spinach and feta, served with tzatziki and leeks. I ordered them and they were heavenly - lightly battered, crispy fried 'flowers', with a creamy spinach center, that tasted exactly like spanakopita should. I dipped every bite in the creamy tzatziki and thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer! While pork is the most popular meat in Greece, lamb is a dish served on special occasions and holidays. I 'discovered' lamb in Greece, as I hadn't ordered it that often when I would go out to eat....specifically the lamb chop. Almyra has a great lamb chop! It's seared on the grill - and I do mean seared - the deep char definitely adds to the flavor. The 3 large chops are Australian lamb, herb marinated for days highlighting the flavor of the meat. They are seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper and olive oil for a tender finish. I like my meat pink inside - not red or rare. Cooking lamb chops medium to medium well is no small feat, yet the meat was cooked exactly the way I liked. They were tender and very juicy. These chops may have been some of the thickest I've had - and I made the 'mistake' of trying to eat them with a fork and knife. Wrong! If you order chops, you 'MUST PICK THEM UP' and eat them! What a difference!! The meat just came right off the bone and it enhanced both the texture and flavor! I'm not sure why eating them off the bone was so different, but I can't emphasize it enough - and, it's a lot more fun! Part of the treat when you order ribs are the 'layered potato fries' you get with them! These aren't your ordinary fries, in fact, they're really not fries - they are little potato masterpieces! The fries are prepared by thinly slicing potatoes and layering them to create a multi layered texture that rocks! They are truly a savory, rich side dish to the lamb chops! After such an epic dinner, I had to order dessert, and the Olive Oil cake immediately caught my eye. It was a two layered cake with a creamy custard like center and a citrus orange topping. It was light and moist, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla gelato resting on a bed of ground pistachio nuts! It was delicious and a wonderful ending to a great meal!
