Mona seems to be one of those places young people come to dress to impress and post selfies from their night out. The venue is dark and modern, perfect for pretentious hipsters to take photos of their fun and drunken evening. We got a text from the restaurant to dress "smart elegant", but the restaurant did not give me a "smart elegant" vibe. The food was all right. The dish that I liked the most was the Shrimp Kebabs. It had a souvlaki marinade, which is always good with all that garlic. All of the kebabs came with 5 pieces of protein. My colleague got the Scallops Santorini, which was small scallops in a pool of tomato sauce. For $42, she was disappointed. Another colleague got the Xinomavro Lamb Loin, which she enjoyed. We shared the Pikilia. The pita bread was toasted nicely, but the spreads were pretty plain, i.e. tasted like grocery store spreads. The Saganaki, Greek flaming cheese, was a fun addition, but it tasted like a greasy cheese. I have had better Saganaki before with a better burned crust. For dessert, we had the Orange Phyllo Cake and the Brûlée Cheesecake per staff recommendation; both were so-so. The Orange Phyllo Cake had no phyllo (see photo)! It actually tasted like an olive oil cake, but the staff assured me it was the phyllo cake...and then they admitted they don't know what phyllo is. The Brûlée Cheesecake was just a plain cheesecake. Menu described a fig and honey compote on top which we did not receive (see photo). The food was good enough, but did not have any wow factors, especially at their price point. Service was attentive. Our entrees took awhile to come out, but we were not in a hurry. 3.5 stars. Nice ambiance, but that's really it. I will say that the waitstaff here are great - there are no photos upstairs so the host sat us downstairs and told us to roam around for pics before it got busy (we were a group of college girls celebrating a birthday lol), and our server kept checking in, bringing us refills of pita, bumping the kitchen, etc. She was the MVP! As for food, nothing was impressive, and in a city with many great Mediterranean restaurants, this would not be my pick for food. The spreads could have been from a supermarket, the spanakopita was under seasoned and had no cheese in the filling, the halloumi was very salty and otherwise not seasoned, I could go on. Plus, it took forever to get our food - we got two items, and over an hour later hadn't received anything else. We didn't get the other dishes until our server bumped the kitchen, plus she had to go upstairs to the kitchen herself to get the (raw!) crudite platter when they didn't bring it after she put it in multiple times. We didn't mind sitting and chatting, but it was 3 hours from the start of our reservation until we were done because of how slow everything was, and nothing was all that amazing. I came with a large group to celebrate some engagements and it was such a fun time. The drinks were made very well I got the forbidden fig and the apollos which I liked better. The food we just ordered a bunch of things to share. I especially liked the skewers the best and the hummus and tzatziki. The service was great. Pete did a great job paying attention and making sure we have everything we needed. At the end they came out with sparklers to celebrate which was super cute. The service is AMAZING. We came here for my best friends birthday and loved it. The place is very clean and is so pretty. Our server (Alexis B) was super nice and attentive. She checked in on us and was so kind. They gave us a refill of carrots and peta for the hummus flight. The food was so good. The portions are good as well. We were fortunate enough to land two seats at the bar right around 8:00 PM on a Friday evening. The bar staff was engaging and knowledgeable. Our cocktails were delicious and well-balanced (The Spicy Meli Marg for me and the Forbidden Fig for him). Two separate bartenders made our two rounds, and both times our cocktails tasted equally the same. I love consistency! The food was a bit of a miss. The Hummus (a bit on the thin side) and Tzatziki (not overly garlicky) were okay. We split the Lobster Pappardelle, which turned out to be a rather small portion and salty as all get-out. We had trouble finishing it. I would be remiss if I didn't comment on how beautiful the atmosphere is. It reminded us of our Grecian honeymoon. No detail was spared with the décor, lighting, and tables/chairs. Even the bar stools were swanky. As the evening progressed, it felt like more of a club than a restaurant. Standouts from the menu were the strawberry mocktail, tzatziki, and the braised lamb. Lamb was overpriced but really delicious. We also had the flaming saganaki (not pictured) because it was vital to give my bff a taste of home away from home for her birthday. Our server was fine, and the people-watching was excellent. So many people dressed to impress, it was a bit like realizing repeatedly that my closet's most over the top outfit would still have been tame compared to what I saw. We witnessed one girl make her entire group of friends wait while she had her photo taken in front of the tree by the hostess stand. Pose after pose, showing more leg, reviewing pix and repeat it all over again. This went on for at least 20 minutes. Homegirl's onlyfans must be legit. Anyway, I knew from their Instagram it would be a party atmosphere after 10pm. That's when the dancers come out and do their thing. I didn't realize an 8:30pm reservation would also mean not being able to hear my friends speaking across the table from me. Saw some mixed reviews on yelp and google but wanted to give this spot a chance. Restaurant is beautiful inside especially downstairs area. I requested seating there but was told they were converting that into a speakeasy type situation soon while upstairs is getting a stage built. So we sat on the first floor and despite having many open tables, were squished into a tight area in middle of 2 other tables. Food was below average. Not one thing I loved. Octopus which they said was a speciality didn't taste fresh. Drink was ok, I had the recommended one as well. Super nice place. Perfect for a date night. We started with a taste of everything. You get to pick 4 dips and you get pita pieces/veggies with which to dip. It's a pretty big helping. I got the lemon herb soup and grilled octopus over mashed potatoes. Very delicious. The octopus was super different. I haven't been eating octopus for long so I feel like I just keep experiencing new inventive ways for it to be made. My wife got some feta/spinach flakey crusted things that were delicious. We ended up stuffed and we only got appetizers and starters. Servers were super quick. There were a lot of people on staff. Everyone that walked passed asked if we needed anything. I do want to preface that the company I was with was fantastic and I had a wonderful evening with them! Mona is a newer concept in Philly and gives off Miami/club vibes. The space is huge and the bar itself is beautifully carved. The live music from the saxophone artist was a really nice treat! They did a great job with bringing out sparklers for a birthday! Visited Mona for the first time. They have more of an American Mediterranean food feel. The place is located right across from the old Macys and has a great internal ambiance. The first floor has a bar and the lighting on top of the bar is amazing. They have these amazing colorful trees that really add to the ambience. The bottom floor has the restrooms and small bar. The place seems like it has a good lounge feel to it. Our waitress was very helpful and kind. The Baklava old fashioned was too sweet for me. We started with some appetizers- Tessera, saganaki, mujaddara, grilled octopus. The grilled octopus was pretty tasty. I really liked the lemon I could put on top of the dish (really made it taste better). For the tessera we got the tirokafteri, hummus, babba ganoush, and the lefka fasolia. My favorite one out of all the spreads was the tiroaftereri which was a very spicy feta. The saganaki was presented then it was burnt. I felt like the show was interesting but the feta cheese was too salty! The mujaddara was a dish of lentils and rice. The dish also contained turnip. The grilled pita that came with that dish was pretty amazing. The mujaddara was my favorite vegetarian dish that our table ordered because it was so delicious. For the entrees we got the lobster pappardelle, branzino, and youvetsi. We also ordered a side of horta. The lobster pappardelle is the entree to order. It had a lot of lobster and was very tasty. The branzino had way too many bones that were hard to get out. I did like how it was topped with gremolata. I don't really like when branzino is full fillet with the eyes. The youvetsi was lamb stew with orzo. I really liked how it was such a different taste than I was used to. The horta had amazing tasting wild greens. The desserts included baklava and pistachio gelato. I really liked how tasty the balaclava was. The gelato was so thick and really tasted like pistachio. read more

Came through for our anni and first things first: the ambiance does NOT disappoint. They went in on the Mediterranean style and the lighting were all a chefs kiss. We had a okay seat by the back window. Food: pretty good. The lamb tho...lit! The hummus to share was okay. Drinks: very cute and I love me a cocktail with some drama which they do have. When looking at restaurants to dine near my hotel, I took a chance on Mona. The reviews are very scattered, with some pretty negative and concerning reviews. However, the restaurant was packed and I didn't think it could be awful of so many people were still going! My friend and I ordered their tzatziki, salad, roasted Chicken, and spanakopita. The Tzatziki seemed watered down and was a little disappointing. I love Costco, and I think their tzatziki is better...but they don't sell it with fresh pitas and veggies...:). Their salad was served with a dressing similar to what you dip bread it. I enjoyed it and was surprised by the large portion. The roasted chicken was served with roasted potato wedges, broccoli, and green beans. I found the chicken to be moist, flavorful, and filling! We agreed to get drinks, quickly learning that it's a Greek tapas bar. A bit pricey for me, but otherwise an excellent date spot. The food is meant to be shared, the tables are small and intimate and the drinks are STRONG. Low dramatic lighting, and music just loud enough to keep everyone's conversations relatively private. I visited Mona two times and really enjoyed it. Mona is different from other Philly restaurants, it gives me Miami vibes with the lighting, trees and flowers. I believe after 9 PM on weekends the dancers and live musicians come out. Both times I ordered the appetizer "a little of everything" - you get to pick 4 dips out of 6 options. I tried the hummus, babba ganoush, taziki, tirokafteri, and melitzano. All were pretty good but the babba ganoush was definitely my favorite. Other appetizers we got was the grilled octopus , Greek fries and shrimp saganaki. For main course we got the chicken kabab, shrimp kabab, branzino and roasted lemon herb chicken. I usually love octopus but this one wasn't my favorite- was a little burnt and didn't blow me away. The branzino was definitely my favorite and was very tender and flavorful. Definitely recommend the branzino! Both times the service was fast and efficient. Overall I have had a great experience at Mona! read more

Beautiful place, but food was very underwhelming. The only dish I would give 5 stars are the lamb lollipops. The sides took me out, especially when I saw what they considered "Mediterranean rice". It resembled more of a school lunch side with peas in it. The apps were ok too, just pricey for the amount that they give. Also, if you are only a party of 2, be prepared that you may bump elbows with the tables next to you as they are placed so close together. Very inviting dining room and bar. Highly attentive staff. We were told the Lower level was a group event space and upper level is still under construction. Food was good. Spreads, mussels, kabobs, lamb chops. Nice cocktails. Each dish arrives as it is ready. As we three were seated at a small hi top table, there was little room for rapidly arriving dishes. Just a couple concerns to look into: The flaming cheese was recommended and while dramatic, was dried out and rubbery in the cast iron skillet our waitperson struggled to hold while the impressive flames died down. A smoke alarm went off for unknown reasons and we were told by passing staff that was a regular occurrence although no announcements were made. During our visit, we saw mice/rodents running around the restaurant, which made the entire experience extremely uncomfortable. While I understand that pest issues can happen, especially in a city, what was most disappointing was how the situation was handled.It took management a long time to come speak with us, and when they finally did, there was little to no empathy. Instead of apologizing, we were told that "mice are nothing to be scared of" and that the problem was because of the business next door. Management also adjusted our bill but never explained what they were taking off or how they were accommodating us. To make matters worse, our waitress told us that there are mice all around the city and implied that we were overreacting. That response was dismissive and unprofessional. This review isn't because I expected my entire bill to be covered. I simply expected a sincere apology, empathy, and professionalism. Unfortunately, the way the staff responded was far more disappointing than the issue itself. Because of that experience, I would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant. read more
