We hadn't been to Olive on Main since before the pandemic. We were pleasantly surprised by the changes. It has been completed remodeled and provides a more spacious atmosphere to relax. The interior is beautifully done. We were immediately seated and the greeted by our server Nigel. Nigel was friendly and patient as we looked over the menu. We decided on drinks and nachos. When the nachos came out it was a huge serving. We weren't sure we could finish it. We decided to sit and pick as we had our drinks and watched basketball. We had planned to have sooner but after filling up on nachos we were done. The manager stopped by and checked on us and we decided to have a look at a dessert menu. Nigel recommended red velvet cake and it was spot on. This review is based on our prior visits by mostly due to how friendly and attentive Nigel was. We were greeted after a couple minutes and then seated. The place is pretty open and has adequate seating. We were seated at the front by the big window overlooking main street which was perfect. It took a few minutes but Someone eventually came to get our drink order. Our drinks came but we weren't ready to order our food just yet. It took a long time for someone to come back but they finally did. They took our order. We got the sampler which was really AMAZING! Falafel, dolmas, babaganush, hummus and pita. We then got a chicken shawarma and falafel on a pita with French fries. The food was really good but they forgot our utensils. They were very apologetic and said they were short staffed today. They took our dessert order and then came back to say they were completely out of it. We decided on the baklava to go. I ate it when I got home and it was soggy in my opinion. The service was OK. I ordered at the booth as soon as you walk in the door. After I ordered I was asked to go to the back to pay. I paid and pretty much moved to an area no one was sitting four times; from back to front, front to side, side to back, back to front. One of the times I was at the front, a guy comes spray the table very close to me. He didn't say anything. I moved after he sprayed because he would've needed the space I was in to wipe the table. The establishment does not have an area for people with takeout orders to wait. The gentleman that took my order was nice; he let me taste a salad I was interested in. After he rung my purchase up he was MIA! I waited about 20 minutes before I inquired about the status of my food. I had to ask another waiter. It's a Friday... do you know where your people are? Well tonight we are having dinner at Olive On Main! It was a great time! Happy patrons, wonderful interactive staff, and awesome food! Did I mention, the best house sangria that is worth venturing out into the cold winter weather for! All it took was a question, "Did you eat yet? I want to go to Olive On Main for their Sangria ". 15 minutes later we arrived! Another 3 minutes later, we were seated, and in another 15 minutes later, Tori was at our table taking our drink order, appetizer order, and because we were ready... she took our meal order. She is a firecracker! She's full of energy, personality, professionalism, and passion! We were having sangria shortly after that! Then we started snacking on our apps! Came here on a Saturday for lunch with a friend. We ordered the Mezza appetizer platter. Total came out to less than $20. What's Hot - Menu. Pretty good! There appears to be something for everyone, including vegans. There are wraps, salads, meats, veggies, etc... It's not a lengthy menu, but there are a good variety of options. - Quality. Pretty delish. The mezza platter had hummus, stuffed grape leaves, falafel balls, and a cucumber salad. Everything was nicely seasoned and had a good flavor. - Portions. Pretty decent size portions. To be fair, we only ordered 1 appetizer dish. However, it was a good size to share between the 2 of us and to get us a little full. We didn't order entrees, so I'm unable to comment on the rest of their menu. - Price. Pretty reasonable and not overly priced. For example, if you add any protein to your salad, it's an additional uncharge, but it's not unreasonable. I was looking at ordering a Spinach Salad with gyro meat as an addition, which was $7 extra. Not bad and/or unreasonable. Our mezza platter was less than $20 to share between 2 people, which is also pretty reasonable. - Service. Not bad. They're attentive, but keep in mind that they might be a little short staffed depending on the day and time you come. - Health and safety. Despite not seeing any of their staff wear face masks, I will definitely give this place credit in the seating arrangement. Specifically, there were other customers in the restaurant, but the hostess seated us a couple of tables away from them. I didn't see any customers sit at tables next to each other. I can't be certain whether that's done on purpose, but I will give them credit in that it's a good precaution to take. - Parking. There's street parking and there's a small parking lot for the store right next to the restaurant. Be careful of the time, but it's helpful that there is some parking that is flexible. What's Not - Service. To be fair, their service isn't terrible. They appear somewhat short staffed, which makes sense given the current state of the economy and jobs/labor market. It's not always easy to flag down wait staff. It took us a few attempts to flag down a waitress to get what we needed. My point is to be prepared to wait. - Health and safety. During this time of the pandemic, which is still uncertain, I didn't see any of their staff wear face masks. - Parking. Despite what I explained above, parking in this area isn't going to be the easiest, depending on the day and time you come. Last night was my first time at Olive on Main. It wasn't too busy. When I walked in, I was greeted right away. I decided to sit at the bar. The server at the bar was good. She checked on me occasionally to make sure I was ok and asked if I needed anything else. As an appetizer, I ordered bacon wrapped shrimp. They were really good. For the beverage, I ordered a wine called Dark Horse Rose. The wine was pretty good. As the entree, I ordered grilled salmon with mash potatoes, and steamed broccoli. The food was good. However, I would have liked if the broccoli was more flavorful. The vibe of the restaurant was nice. They had music playing, tvs at the bar ( which i was able to watch sports), and it was decorated with lights and St. Patrick decorations. It not very big inside, but they have plenty of seating. Didn't realize I hadn't reviewed this place! I visited pre-covid days with an old co-worker. We had a great time and I remember saying I need to come back and try their food since we only had drinks. Recently dined here on a warm autumn day. I had the chicken pesto flatbread and it was really good! The server was very friendly and attentive. I had an old fashioned cocktail and it was good! In our top three favorite visited restaurants in 2023! 11/19/2023 Fiancée and I came with the cast of her latest play she is acting in next door at the Laurel Playhouse. Olive on Main staff is easily one of the nicest and most accommodating in the DMV. The beef kabob skewers are moist, flavorful and taste of quality. Along with the basmati rice and pita bread this dish certainly stood out. This is a hidden gem nestled right on Main St. I've passed by this place a hundred times and finally stopped in. My friend and I ordered the salmon caesar salad, veggie flatbread with a side of rice and grilled zucchini. Everything was delicious and I think this was the best caesar salad I've ever had. The salmon had a great crust and was moist inside. The flatbread was perfect with the fresh arugula and mushrooms. Highly recommend this place if you want Mediterranean or vegetarian food. There was a bit of an older crowd during lunch. They do feature specials throughout the week and I'll definitely be back to try other menu items. Parking is very easy to find as there is free parking in the back or street parking you have to pay for. We came here for dinner tonight because of the menu options (I am vegetarian). We were seated immediately and the waitress and service was fast and good. I ordered the Greek salad and my husband got the chicken Parmesan. The food came out at the same time - my husband said it was the best chicken parm he ever had. My salad was ok - it was made with iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, chickpeas and feta. It only had 3 kalamata olives which was kinda sad, and it was missing red onions. For dessert I had baklava, which was amazing, and husband had cheesecake. The best part was the restroom because it was heated!! Amazing gyro meat! We ordered greek salads with gyro meat on top and my daughter got chicken tenders and fries. We ordered the food to go and planned to eat it outside at a park but they didn't give us utensils or napkins so that was a bit disappointing. We took the food home and ate. We also asked for tzatziki sauce but they forgot to include it. The food made up for the short comings and we enjoyed our meal. Tried Olive on Main last Wednesday with my girlfriend and we were more pleased than not. Started with two appetizers, the bacon wrapped dates and the hummus with pita bread. The dates were lovely, slightly better without the bacon in my opinion. They came with a mango chipotle sauce that was a little underwhelming. The hummus was tasty though there was not nearly enough pita bread and we did not get extra pita bread that we had asked our waitress for. Admittedly, the restaurant was pretty busy but it was a little annoying seeing all of the hummus between us as we enjoyed our entrees. My girlfriend got the kebabs, one chicken and one beef, served with basmati rice. It looked and tasted just great to her. I got the chicken Parmesan, a huge portion I could only finish half of in the restaurant (it made for a tasty dinner Thursday night though I do wish I'd noticed the kebabs). Neither me nor my girlfriend are big Mediterranean fans but we'd certainly go back to Olive on Main again. There is a lot we still have to try. read more

I returned the stuffed grape leaves, I have never ever done that before...... Well maybe once before for the same reason. Good flavor, but paste inside for being cooked twice and served hot. The stuffed burger was good, asked for medium rare, got medium well. Stuffed with mushrooms and pepper jack and didn't finish it because it was big. Took it home and found out it was still raw in the middle . The black olives were good. But then there was the service....... We might as well been seated in the parking lot next door. The other tables got punctual service, I got to see everybody wiz past my empty ginger ale, yet getting the ginger ale was a wait in futility..... Around 20 mins.... Food a half hour........ I guess you had to know the wait staff to get service. As the large table got and a 4 top got in my row... My real guess for the absolutely crappy service, was because I didn't order alcohol!!!! Another neighborhood restaurant that revolves around it's bar..... If the restaurant wasn't so clean and well lit, this restaurant would be a dive bar. No interest in returning......
