We stop here for the flavored balsamic and olive oils. We decided to try getting food here. The milkshakes are basically soft serve ice cream in a cup. I had the OP Bacon Jam Burger which should be a 1/2 lb party but the cow was on a diet, the veggies were fresh but the meat tasteless. Bacon Jam was bomb. Cheese is extra and it does not come with fries. Over $12 for a burger that is bland and tasteless is not worth it. Add the wait was 15 minutes and the service was poor and not timely I will pass. Made a pit stop on the way to SFO from PDX. We saw a lot of signs for this place along I5 so decided to give it a try. Half of the store is a market/ deli with many gourmet products for treats and gifts. They have a huge assortment (maybe 20-30) of olive and dip samples available for you to help yourself. The other side of the store is a fast casual type restaurant with sandwiches and shakes. At first it seemed they didn't have a huge selection, but then we saw their topping bar!! Topping bar is filled with veggies and gourmet olive products from their deli. A must stop on the next road trip! read more

This is a unique rest stop good for the family. It is a cute, smallish cafe with good prices, for basic food, ice cream, burgers and shakes. This place is always clean and well stocked. I like to buy olives here and sometimes an olive oil. Good quality, fair to high prices in the store area. Some unique true deli items, mostly olive oriented, as you'd expect. I personally am drawn in by the olives which are 4 star for sure. One of the great bonuses here is the excellent rv and car parking, and the fact that it is as convenient as any of the fast food places nearby , and so much more varied and better for you. You really have no excuse not to stop in here. They have a wine bar tucked in the back to, in case you have time to have a glass. Ambience is clean cafe, nothing fancy here, family oriented, but 5 stars compared to anything else in the immediate area. What a fun stop if you are traveling up and down I-5! We stopped for a shake--my husband had chocolate, and I tried a dark raspberry with balsamic vinegar, and it was delicious. We initially stopped at the gas station across the street to fill up on our way from Redding to San Francisco, and I bought a jar of blue cheese olives from a local family in Corning while my boyfriend was using the restroom. I then decided while waiting I HAD to stop at the Olive Pit (which I pass every time I travel to Redding, and have never stopped). Side note - gas station olives tasted like poison once we got to our SF hotel, and I almost turned around to get some olives from Olive Pit. We thought the different types of olive trees outside were neat, and took a couple pictures. I definitely like the wine/restaurant aspect, and plan to take advantage of it next time. On our first stop, we pretty much walked around and looked at everything, and I took advantage of the ability to try all the different olives. I LOVE blue cheese olives, and those from the Olive Pit are the best I've ever had. There were a number of other things we sampled that I desperately wanted, but our luggage was already going to be nice and full, and we decided not to take advantage of the Olive Pit's shipping (as we decided we could order things online). We did buy some olive wood items (as they're things we haven't seen up here in Chicago), as well as some other small items that we were confident would survive the trip home. There are two things that I never noticed here before. They have an Olive Tasting Bar. You can sample a variety of olive oils, olives, balsamic vinegars, and tapenades. So guess where Gayle wants to stop on the way up to Ashland? I personally think that all the freeway signs advertising this place overstate what's here. The space is a bit Midwest plain and the associated cafe space is a little too DQ for my taste. And of course I had very little interest in even coming in, despite the fact that they do have a pretty good selection of olives, related food products, and of course the associated tchotchkes. Yet, while I waited outside and hoped that this ordeal would be over soon, Gayle was a happy camper. She had a nice olive tasting and made some good purchases. And when Gayle's happy, I'm happy too. They were remodeling a new tasting bar and cafe when we visited a few weeks back, but still had the free tasting bar where you can try all the tongue stimulating flavors of olives. I found the queen olives in general really good, huge green olives that really absorb a good amount of what they are marinated in, and when stuffed offer a lot of room for the filling. Decent burger, cooked to order, but a little overpriced. Order of tater tots is exactly 12 tots, every time. Seems a little skimpy, and not as crispy as you'd normally want. There's a condiment bar to build your own burger that has LOTS of toppings, including tapenade with their own olives. Pretty yummy. I had the bacon jam burger, which was good. I asked for a lettuce wraps instead of bun, and they just put a piece of lettuce under it, no wrap. Ate with knife and fork. Boyfriend got the muffaletta burger. That's how I ended up here in the first place but was pleasantly surprised to see all the novelty food items sold here and even a wine tasting area. If you do need a quick bite, they serve breakfast sandwiches, coffee, hamburgers etc. cafe style. The "must stop" perks of this place: If you like olives, they've got the works here. My favorite are the Hot Shots which are green olives stuffed with garlic and habanero. There are a large variety of olives to sample in addition to peppers, balsamic vinegars and fancy olive oils too. The African red peppers stuffed with feta cheese was another favorite sample. The red peppers are somewhat sweet with a little kick. Pair that with the cheese stuffed inside, and it's a party in your mouth! I love road trips! Every time my husband and I hit the road we find somewhere fun and new - even if it's on a journey we've done countless times before. Corning, CA isn't on our regular travel route, but on our drive to Bend we passed through here and I found the Olive Pit. This place is awesome! CAsey doesn't really like olives, but he loves olive oil. I like everything, and this place really has it all for travelers. Aside from countless varieties of olives and olive oil (most of which you can sample while here) they also have fruits, nuts, seeds, and other amazing snacks. Perfect for road trips; perfect for parties; perfect for my hungry mouth! We (mostly me) filled a basket with a variety of spicy and sweet specialty snacks, including: roasted and salted pumpkin seeds (amazing!! $3.68), smoked olives ($3.99), hot chili peppers (really fn hot!! $1.89) and some buttered peanuts ($5.29). Everything was delicious! The store is really fun to walk around - they have drinks also (soda $2.19, large bottle of ice cold water $1.69). It is in the pricey side from jars of olives, flavored oils to almonds. But if you really like olives, this place has the largest variety that I have ever seen; stuffed with anchovies, almond, garlic to jalapeños. This place is definitely NOT tourist trap. Why? because this place really tries to sell quality goods that are locally grown. While driving up/down the 5 freeway, you can see all the olive trees grown all around. The olives are locally sourced and then pickled. I absolutely loved their deli. The food is affordable and comes out really fast. I think I waited about 5 minutes before I got my hamburger. For $3.45 + $1 for avocado, this is a really good deal for a fatty sandwich. I especially appreciated the fact that they had a condiments bar where you could put on your own freshly cut tomatoes, lettuce, olive spread, and other sauces. You can help yourself to as many pickles as you want! I felt so full just after eating one hamburger. It was such a great deal. Also, this place isn't too crowded so you can definitely find a seat. The store area was a little bit busier. I wish I had more time to peruse their wine, olive, and etc sections. It looked like they had a whole variety of canned goods. This place is a pit. An olive pit that is. With an impressive inventory, the pitted olives came stuffed with a huge array of fillings, making it the main reason to visit. The olive tasting demonstrated that young green olives don't have much character but stuffing them with other goodies makes them much better. Due to the tasting, I bought anchovy-filled olives which creates an effect similar to a caviar martini and, in a disturbing olive-in-olive perversion like a turducken, green olives stuffed with dark Kalamata olives where the two types of olives amplify the olive flavor. The olive oil tasting showed low quality oil for a high price. We've seen this many times before with tastings in other stores that sell California olive oils. We didn't try the café for sandwiches (maybe next time) or the wine tasting room (hard enough to stay awake when driving for hours). read more
