Love this place! Amazing selection of olives, olive oils, vinegars. California and peach balsamic are my faves. They also have a variety of canned (jars) food from jellies to peppers, even asparagus. Other gourmet foodstuffs like nuts, candy, $5 organic chocolate bars and sundries including jelly belly soda and chai cola. We always stop here on our way up/down the 5 fwy. Staff is friendly. Wow this place is so generic and boring we were in and out in less than five minutes. Your local local grocer can get you the same kind of olives - nothing special. You are way better off at Whole Foods. It's a total tourist trap and they over hype themselves as some mecca of olives but it's the only olive-y thing in the town (that we could see) and it is SO BLAH! This place has been in business for decades. I've stopped here on every drive between the Bay Area and family in Oregon. While mostly being an olive market, they do have a modest cafe with a variety of burgers, salad, and shakes. The market has expanded a bit since I was last through here; now offering a wine and craft beer tasting area which my traveling companions enjoyed immensely. Ordered two hot sandwiches, and when we picked them up were told hot sandwiches don't exist anymore due to Covid. Would have been nice to know before I paid over the phone and drove over to pick it up. Apparently good service doesn't either here. My fiance and I were driving the I-5 and we kept seeing the billboards for this place. We were also told by the aldy at the hotel we stayed in Redding. That corning is the olive capital of the state or the nation? not sure which one. Either way we had to check it out. The olive oil and olive tasting is free but I think they expect you to buy something. The variety of oils, and vinegars, and olives is super intense! It is not that cheap, a jar of olives ranges from $4 to $8 for like the blue cheese stuffed ones. If you love olives you should stop. read more

For over 20 years now, I've driven Highway 5 two to three times a year on average. I've always made the Olive Pit a stopping point. Then I discovered their garlic stuffed olives. [that was the sound of my mouth watering] But this is not about their great food or products. This is about their customer service. Two visits ago (sorry for not writing sooner) I grabbed a jar of olives that had somehow gone wrong. I was disappointed, but everything else I had purchased was fine. I had even considered letting it go, but on a whim reached out to Olive Pit - quality control and all that. They were amazing, attentive and quick and efficient and handled the problem right away. I had the Malibu veg burger option; the flavor was okay but it was decidedly room temperature. Want a different kind of bread? Add $1. Single slice of cheese? That'll be $1. Avocado isn't fresh but "mashed" (i.e., from a tub). Got a whopping 7 tater tots as a side. The truly astonishing thing was the markup on the coconut water that we buy elsewhere all the time for less than half the price. We saw a billboard on the freeway about this place. I just ran out of olive oil & wanted a new flavor of balsamic dressing. So we decided to check it out real quick and get a couple of bottles. Boy was I amazed of all the flavors! Balsamic flavors to name a few were: vanilla, chocolate, expresso, pinapple, fig, strawberry, pomegranate, mandarin and many more. Olives stuffed with: jalapeño, garlic, habenaro, capers, feta, cajon, Italian spices and more! Plus we had a great fresh sandwich from their cafe named mulfutta. I think it was there house sand. I recommend it hot. A quick stop "2 bottle" turned into $170.00 of many awesome products, which some are gifts. The prices are better than your grocery store and without the chemicals! We also had a great time wine tasting there. All the employees were genuinely friendly and helpful, including their nice mamager. We will definitely make this a must stop everytime we come this way. This is an olive store that sells deli sandwiches. Nothing special about the deli. However the store does sell local merchandise that you cant find in your neighborhood grocery store. We bought some flavored olive oil, balsamic vinegar and garlic stuffed olives. The oil has a a good strong olive flavor, however you could not taste the added flavor to the olive oil or balsamic vinegar. I did find the prices reasonable. Fun little diversion on a long trip. There was bread and gluten free rice crackers for use. It was a great snack. Around the store, there were incredible amounts of jars and shelves to look at. Bags of flavored nuts, candy, olives, balsamic vinegars, and wine were everywhere! It made our mouth water. We ended up getting the raspberry honey almonds and almost ate them in one sitting they were so good! There were also a lot of unique kitchen appliances and gadgets, but not as much bread for sale. We did not eat at the restaurant, but we purchased bottled drinks and water for the remainder of our trip just as we would do at a gas station. Each employee was incredibly happy and asked us multiple times if we needed assistance. The bathrooms are also very clean! The Olive Pit is a great "Pit" stop (pun intended). We always stop here on the way back to Portland from Southern CA and load up on Garlic olives and jalapeno olives also olive oils. Lots of parking, never over crowded. I went to the store at 7am - and they were open and ready to go. Tasting bar all set up - the fig balsamic vinegar is fabulous. Large selection of specialty items - I highly recommend the chipotle stuffed olives and the fig balsamic vinegar. The oils are in the back of the store - you have to walk past the jarred olives, gadgets for serving olives, cheese and the like. The trek was worth it. The woman who helped me was quite nice, even digging through a huge pile of boxes to find one with separators so I could haul my olives, oils and vinegars all over the state while I visited friends - the olives, etc. were my hostess gifts.
