Such a hidden gem! Ate once on a Sunday morning... and my boyfriend and I had a great brunch without the wait. It's a small restaurant that can easily be unnoticeable, but the food was great! Plus, they have bottomless mimosas that we're reasonably priced. Super cute, will definitely come back! :) One down side, you have park by the street. We enjoyed our brunch today, and glad we gave Oliver's another shot after all this time. The coffee was good, breakfast sandwich cooked to perfection, amazing biscuits, fresh avocado, and tasty hash browns. Excellent service, warm, friendly, and patient staff. We're crossing our fingers that the new owners bring back those mouth-watering, tell-your-friends-about Cinnamon rolls! We will be back soon. read more

Came in this morning for breakfast because of the reviews. First off I never write reviews but am a major yelper to find our restaurants. I was so effected by this one server I needed to write this review. I Came in by myself. The place was not busy and it is a seat yourself restaurant. Decent decor appeared nice and clean and easy to find. The young hostess/server recognized me and kindly asked me to find a seat. I sat at a window table in plain view. I sat there for a full 15 min without a server approaching me. The server was talking to a table of two seniors the whole time with the coffee pot in her hand. The other server was working the restaurant covering for the one server. I heard 2 near by tables also complaining about her lack of service and they just wanted their checks to leave. I had to walk up to the counter and ask for help after 15 min. She promptly apologized for the other servers lack of service and took my order. She was friendly and great. (Ella) Food came out. I order country fried steak and eggs. The only thing good was a biscuit. Hash browns were greasy and something you find at Denny's. The country fried steak was obviously pre made and old. No meat at all. It actually looked like a heavily coated meatloaf that had a 1/16 inch thick piece of meat. The thing that really turned me off even more then the food ,Was the other server who was supposed to be my server. She neglected all her tables and continued to talk to the seniors., Who appeared to be related. After they left. She stood at the counter talking to another individual and neglecting her customers. She just couldn't stop talking and do her job at all. It really was that bad. She came and took my credit card. Then returned to the front counter and talked to a customer before running my card. I would have rated the restaurant as a whole a 3 star. She herself made it a 1 star review!! read more

Usually, we love it here. Good food, decent service. (Rhea is our favorite.) But TODAY WAS A SHIT SHOW. If you are "understaffed", then tell folks that when they arrive, so they can choose to stay & wait or chose to leave. Give a REALISTIC estimate of wait times. Also, if you're giving less-than-satisfactory service, act like you're sorry about it. Maybe a "Hey, I know it took me too long to get your drinks (and refills and order and food) but I appreciate your patience." SOMETHING. Also, running out of iced tea on a triple-digit day is unacceptable. Take two minutes and MAKE MORE. AND the air conditioning was broken! Finally, there's NO WAY two GOOD servers can't handle that entire restaurant. None. So I'm not sure what they mean by "understaffed." If you can't handle that little place with two servers, HIRE BETTER SERVERS. We'll be back, and I hope it has gotten its act together by then. read more

We were looking for a place for lunch and decided this looked like a good place to try, not a bad choice although their menu consists of mostly breakfast/brunch selections. We had their Philly Cheesesteak sandwich which was one of the best we've had anywhere else in the area. Very clean and nicely decorated and great service. Oliver's is definitely not one of those Portland places with a long line, wait staff that are too cool to talk to you, and an overly ambitious menu. In fact, the place seems almost aggressively mediocre. It's the "normcore" of restaurants, as far as I can tell. From the decor to the menu, Oliver's would be an okay breakfast choice in any small to medium sized town in this country. However, there was nothing about it that would make me want to go back. There was no line or wait, which was great. And they had an EPL soccer game on the TV, which made by boyfriend happy, and he said the biscuit he had was good. But my omelette was overcooked, hash browns were soggy, jam was generic, coffee was nothing special. There are plenty of other restaurants in Portland that do a better basic breakfast. read more

Wow! What a great breakfast! The reviews on Yelp weren't kidding! From the most delicious blueberry jam to thick and fluffy pancakes, to hash browns that are the real deal (crispy and soft), to eggs cooked to perfection and yes, I confess, a homemade cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting (for later), this was the most incredibly delicious, homestyle cooking place! I really do want to love Oliver's Cafe. It's a cute place right in my neighborhood and the service is great. Unfortunately, the food is not worth the price tag here. I got the Meat Lover's Skillet and my first reaction was "there's no meat!" My date helped me locate the tiny little cubes of meat in my breakfast, which were hidden under potatoes 10x the size of the meat. If you couldn't tell by what I ordered, I love meat... I do not love scooping up little meat morsels that are indistinguishable in taste because they're all mixed together. We love this place. Regular, honest food served by people who actually smile and seem to like working there. (There are NO snotty, frowny, tattooed and pierced goths on the waitstaff at Oliver's Cafe - Yay!) The food is very good, served hot, and priced moderately. There are a lot of more trendier, higher priced places in Portland that can't seem to get that right, so kudos to Oliver's for figuring out the most important things and doing them well. It's pretty silly to wait 40 minutes for food when you're hungry, then have to flag the person down yourself (without them volunteering any info) and be told the food is next... To be started. So another 15 min. They have great food when it arrives but the process optimization leaves something to be desired. We left there and went to Don Pedro's where there were more than 2 people in the kitchen. Oliver's wasn't even busy. How many tables are there total? 20? 3-4 servers and two people in the kitchen. The biscuits are freshly made and melt in your mouth delish. The portions are big and filling. The only down side was our server, she took a while before she came by and took our order. We went here for the first time today. Oliver's is in a new retail building on Foster. The space lacks the charm of an older building, but on the other hand it has a huge parking lot, nice landscaping, and great bathrooms. Both the food and the staff were very good. There was no wait to be seated at 9:00 Saturday morning. They had a big screen tv which was on unobtrusively across the room (spacious room). There was a mix of booths and tables and a case with fresh homemade pastries (I remember cinnamon rolls, strudels, muffins, and cookies). Best surprise: Great coffee. It's from Mt. Hood Roasters in Rhododendron, and it's flavorful and perfectly strong. I sometimes get my coffee elsewhere before going to breakfast because I don't want sad coffee. This is happy coffee. Second best surprise: real hash browns. They also have a seasoned potato/grilled pepper/onion option, but we both had hashbrowns. Very good biscuits. Every thing is made in-house. Good condiments, including Cholula and a tasty jam. Fresh avocado, perfectly cooked thick cut bacon, eggs prepared just right (we had an omelet and eggs over easy), etc. We enjoyed it and are glad we checked it out. We'll be back. read more

I didn't know what to expect when my GPS led me to this little strip of storefronts on SE Foster. The place looked small, and I was concerned about the variety on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised. The place is very clean and the service was wonderful. My 14 year-old ordered the Baconcakes. In his words, they were RIDICULOUS! I ordered the Eggs Benedict (only available on Sunday). I have not been a fan of eggs benedict for many years due to too many disappointments. This was one of the best eggs benedicts I have eaten. The hollandaise was velvety smooth, and the Canadian bacon was smokey. Eggs were perfectly poached. I chose seasoned potatoes. I loved the small dice on the potatoes (like I do at home) and the seasoning with onions and peppers was near perfect. The coffee was good too. This is a bit out of the way for me in Milwaukie, but I will definitely be back! read more
