Great breakfasts at a reasonable price! What more could you want? Highly recommend!

When we first walked in we sat ourselves at a booth and was greeted by a taller blonde girl, she took our drink order and we checked out the menu. We ordered coffee and the smoked brisket hash and were super excited, it sounded amazing. What we got was not a hash, but large homefries with slices of brisket mixed through, unmelted cheese, two eggs on top.. a soggy bottom biscuit with super cold butter and awful service. We needed more jam and waited way too long as the two waitresses were both eating off to the side, on their cell phones, and having a conversation with each other about some guy named Joe. With over 5 tables in there I do not feel it was appropriate timing. When we were finally able to get the other (not the blonde) waitresses attention and get more jam she brought it back with huge attitude and a "you good?".. we proceeded to inform her that the food wasn't what we were expecting and we were shocked they were both taking a break at the same time when you have customers needing things.. she proceeded to respond with "great, so you won't be coming back.. good". Are you kidding me? She then took our plates, even though we were not finished, brought the check and awkwardly hovered over our table waiting for us to pay. Very awful customer service and experience. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Wish I could leave negative stars.. oh and to top it off.. I asked her if she was the owner - she responded "no, you can call after 3pm, they will be here".. they close at 3pm read more

Seems like the food would be great if they would ever bring your food out. We sat for a hour waiting for our food which we finally just got up and left without. Had to ask for them to bring us water. If it's gonna be a while at least come and check on your customers. read more

Good food, Rhea's a great waitress! Young cook needs his ass handed to him!! Watch a couple, there before us, not get their order and force Rhea to apologize multiple times while this cook lolly gagged and joked, to the point the customers left! My running/walking group decided to meet here before/after our Memorial Day miles event. We met up and headed our for a few miles before coming back to enjoy breakfast. I had the small order of Oliver's Bacon Cakes which was two cakes (the large order is three). It was served with some cinnamon butter and syrup. They were exactly what I wanted. I ordered coffee and water and both were refilled promptly as needed. Our group had several adults and three kids. The kids were offered coloring pages and crayons which was a nice touch. Also the kids water glasses had lids/straws which is a great preventative measure for little hands. This was a great restaurant that I will definitely be back to enjoy soon! read more

Wow this is an amazing find in Portland! Excellent and friendly service. Really good prices. INCREDIBLE food, especially chicken fried steak and gravy. As a former southerner who normally makes my own southern food, I was so excited to find a place about as good as homemade! Delicious soft biscuits, mmm! My son had a burger and declared it to have excellent balance of flavor. I snagged s fry and was not disappointed. Fries (everything actually) piping hot and delicious. Oliver's has become our favorite breakfast/lunch spot. The California omelette is to die for, the black bean burger is fantastic and their Ruben will melt your taste buds. Best place in PDX in my opinion. The waitresses are so nice and the service is great. Get there. read more

I'm really new to Portland, so I've been trying to try new places. Instead of places in my comfort zone. Oliver's was pretty good. The service was great, setting was nice. The service was excellent. The Oliver's omelet was good too.. but the pancakes were worst pancakes I ever had. I could make better one with aunt jemima pancake mix and I suck at making pancakes. Had a veggie omelette there the other day with a friend. The place has been transformed from previously (failed endeavors) into a winning combination of great food, wonderful service, and a great looking interior. I would say it looks more like a higher-end cafe rather than a typical SE joint. Yet the prices are affordable and the service is outstanding. Five stars all over. Four star for no.... espresso. Nothing spectacular about this place but decent breakfast food, decent prices. Portions are huge! My only complaint really is the coffee is just awful. I love a good cup of coffee with my breakfast when I go out but their's is just bad.. I've tried it several times now, hoping it will be better but no.. Been here several times because it is right down the street. Have been disappointed every time. The food is not great, it's ok, but not great. Our order has never once been completely right. Only redeeming quality, aside from convenient location, is the bottomless mimosas. read more

Great stop with young kids after hitting the Lents farmers market early on Saturday (it opens early at 9, good for us with young kids who rise early! ) Excellent value for money. Our kids loved the basic and sweet French toast, eggs and bacon plate for just under $5. Us grown ups enjoyed a really substantial breakfast burrito with grilled potatoes and ham inside, and a nice biscuit sandwich. The last two could've been $9 to $12 at other brunch spots, but here it was a few bucks less, no line, no pretension. Terribly nice wait staff. We enjoyed the outdoor seating since the traffic was hypnotic for our little kids and we knew the occasional baby scream wouldn't bother anyone outside! We'll be back! read more

Yayyyyy for Oliver's!!! I live in Lents so I should give this place 5 stars just for being good eats within walking distance. But either way, Oliver's deserves a high rating. I see some other reviewers thinks it is too "safe" and gave it a low rating, but in this high-priced, organ-meat-is-cool world of Portlandia, I warmly welcome a place like Oliver's with good ol homestyle menu. Its exactly what I want for breakfast, not someplace that put odd flavors together, call it gourmet, charge you big bucks and to top it all off, act as if they are doing you a big favor to let you eat there. (you know who you are!!) And this is no greasy spoon either. They make their scones, muffins, cookies and biscuits in house and fresh, the food is tasty and filling and the decor of the cafe is downright beautiful. Service is very friendly and so far my wait for food has not been more than 10 mins. Oh and the prices are GREAT!! the breakfast standard of two eggs, home fries, toast or biscuit (take the biscuit, it is awesome!) AND your choice of ham, bacon or sausage is just $5!!! Yes, Five bucks!!! My only complaint is that the coffee could be better. I don't need expresso drinks, though I 'm sure a lot of other people would like that, but I would love if the drip coffee tasted better, which is the only reason I dropped one star. read more

How do you write an obituary for a beloved restaurant? A couple of years back I walked into a family friendly small restaurant for breakfast. It was impressive in today's overcrowded, turn the tables over, get um in and out restaurant world. The previous owners were interested in the dining experience of the customer. Their food was fresh and well prepared. Biscuits made daily as well as fresh cinnamon rolls. All very good. Breads although not made on site were artisan and good for breakfast and lunch. I would frequent Olivers at least twice a week never being disappointed. Then I noticed a new presence behind the counter. I asked my favorite waitress if someone was going to purchase my beloved breakfast stop. Although I knew the answer, she confirmed what I knew. Her voice was upbeat but her expression was not. Sadly she is no longer there and with her went the good food. I first noticed the lack of the artisan breads. Replaced with your standard loaf sourdough. I am sure in an effort for the new owners to save a little money. The next casualty was the family atmosphere had to be compromised by the need for an alcohol license to be able to serve the bottomless mimosa on Sunday. The young crowd must love it. But it's the older crowd that possess the bulk of the money. So there in lies the rub. As the new owner tries new things (open for dinner instead of just breakfast and lunch) quality begins to slip. The new wait staff is less attentive and I don't mean that on the first day. I am saying throughout my last trip there was 9/26... Food quality is very low and has been delivered cold on more than one occasion. From what I understood this favorite of mine was saved from being a "hot pot" eating establishment. It may have been better off. So with heavy heart and empty stomach I say good bye to Olivers and begin my search for a new weekend breakfast place. read more

We had a small reception at Oliver's after my uncle's funeral at Willamette National Cemetery. Oliver's was perfect! They arranged the tables for our party of 25, and we had platters of various breakfast and lunch items. The place was quite open, and it was nice for every one to visit with each other. The food was really good and the staff was very helpful. The cost was very, very reasonable. It was very convenient and we were all very happy with the arrangements. This was my second breakfast. The last time my fiancee' and both got egg dishes. Hers had beans and avocado mine was bacon tomato and chives. She got the potatoes and liked them. I got a fruit bowl, it was fine. Today I got french toast and bacon. The bacon was done perfectly for my taste, crisp but not too crisp. The french toast was good, but nothing special. Would have been nice to have an option to upgrade to real maple syrup. The staff here are wonderful. Friendly, all smile and right on top of it with my coffee and water. I will be back. read more

I absolutely love this new place and recommend it to anyone. I tried their mushroom burger and it was amazing.... my favorite addicting dish at the moment is their southwest chicken wrap. My husband loves the pulled pork sandwich, gets it every time. The prices are unbeatable and very affordable. Wish they had more of these places around. An amazing place for breakfast! Delicious scrambles, eggs, and hot cakes to die for. The biscuits are mediocre but the staff and modern decor ambiance make up for it. All I got was a bagel and they burned it, so I sent it back and it was STILL a little burned. And it was $4 for just a bagel with a bit of prepackaged cream cheese! My partner got eggs and hash browns and bacon, the works, and it was all rather modest portions for the high price and generally incredibly eh quality. read more

Service has always been great, but then we've been there so much that they recognize us. The food has deteriorated quite a bit. Biscuits and gravy have a sweet (not a good sweet) taste to them instead of sausage'y. The eggs are overcooked and the pancakes are dry. Hot chocolate was even bad! I'll miss the girls there, but I won't miss the food! Probably won't go back as the food has been downhill for about a year now.. :( read more

The service is fairly friendly, and your food arrives in a timely manner. i'm not sure if there's a new directive to reduce coffee usage, but getting refills is a rarity.
