Purchased a few bottles of oil and vinegars - about 5. Those purchases I'm happy with. But I also bought a few boxes of those French cookie boxes in the beautiful tins and found it disgusting and disappointing to see it only fill almost half full. I got home and found the seal to have been tampered with, but I didn't think anything of it and to my surprise quite a few packages of little cookies missing. On a recent trip to the wine country, my friends and I stopped in Saint Helena to do some shopping. We visited this shop and browsed for a few minutes, admiring the display and variety of food items. My friends and I travel several times a year and always purchase gift items for our friends and family. Unfortunately, at no time during our visit did the two women behind the counter offer us a greeting, a smile or anything resembling a welcome. Really? We thought about purchasing some of their chocolate sauces and flavored balsamic vinegars. But we decided if we weren't welcome we would not purchase anything. We went there to get a new bottle of the pear vinegar since we had just finished our other bottle. I've been making a great summer salad with kale, peaches, pears and mix the pear vinegar with honey and olive oil. It's been such a hit, I had to buy vinegar for my MIL and also for our son. While we were there, we sampled many things. Walked out with a bag full of goodies. It is a beautiful little store with so much good stuff and samples galore. Parking was a bit dicey, so we parked down the street and walked by all the other cute shops. When I worked at Williams Sonoma decades ago, Olivier Napa Valley was one of my favorite olive oils. So when I saw a shop in Carmel-By-The-Sea, stopping was a must do! As soon as we walked in a SA squealed because she saw our fur-baby. Doggie treats were offered as well as more oohs and ahhs. It was nice to feel so welcomed! This store is well stocked with all things Olivier! I liked the fact that everything could be sampled. It was tough narrowing my choices to a few items (we parked far & lugging heavy bottles all over Carmel-By-The-Sea was not appealing to my hubby). Ultimately we selected truffle salt, a few artichoke spreads, and jalapeño oil (BOGO). The friendly SA gave us extra bags so we could give some of our loot as gifts. They have variety selection for olive oils, balsamic vinegars, mustard, bread dippers, etc. Everything was good. Staffs were very friendly. Prior to COVID, they allowed customers to taste test. With COVID, they limited taste test to protect customers. Although, they still could assist customers for taste test (if requested). The VSOP balsamic vinegar tasted so good. Highly recommended. I spent so much money walking into this shop. Heads up, there are no street numbers on this block. However, Carmel is designed so you can speak to different shops and make your way through the stores. But don't worry - Olivier Napa Valley has a distinct smell. You will catch a hint of garlic, mustard, and vinegar in the air. Not extremely strong, but a nice whiff will entice you to enter. The mustards are in the middle; no taste allowed but very descriptive ingredients. The vinegar and olive oils are open to taste - these options will extend your love for salads and simple dishes far beyond. OMG, did you know they have sauces? Look - buy the spices and the salts. Those two are the most used in my home. So basically - I advocate for.... everything. We won't discuss how much I spent in this store, but I walked out with a free pen and two bags.
