Despite the name, the New York system, hot wiener is a Rhode Island novelty. As with any strange regional food, there are multiple claims to be the first. As far as I'm concerned only will New York system hot wieners are the original. On this trip, I ordered two all the way with fries and a Diet Coke and they delivered exactly that. For the uninitiated, a New York system hot wiener starts with a hot dog like sausage - the hot wiener - place in a hotdog roll topped with mustard, onions, meat sauce, & celery salt. The wieners came out tightly wrapped in butcher paper and hot. They were exactly what I was looking for after a long day. I got to the restaurant in Cranston their second location just after nine and the dining room was closed. But they have a take out window(not a drive-through, but a walk up) and I took my order to one of the two picnic tables in the front of the parking lot. The staff was very friendly and the meal was priced reasonably. If you are local to Cranston or Providence, and you enjoy a good hotdog, you should give Olneyville a try. It's a truly unique Rhode Island experience. read more

Horrid. Wieners are what they are. They've never been good for you but have always been a taste treat that skirts the line. Not anymore...they are terrible. My favorite weiner spot. Mainly because it's in a convenient location near my old stomping grounds. This place has been open for as long as I can remember. It is a Rhode Island staple; I know they have their other location in Olneyville. They have a big parking lot. You order at the counter and there's a dining room with quite a few booths. My go to food is, two weiners all the way (with onions, celery salt, meat sauce, and mustard). I also get their cheese fries and coffee milk. The food is always fresh and tasty. It's open until two a.m. and they have a takeout window. Their dining room is open until one a.m. This has been a tradition for me since I moved out of Rhode Island, we always stop by when we come back to visit. This place is an institution. Still looks the same as it did 13 years ago when we moved from RI, but that's ok...because the food is also still the same (YUMMY!) as it was 13 years ago. It was out first stop when we picked up the rental car from the airport. The weiners are just just as naughty and tasty as I remember and the crispy fries and cold coffee milk are the perfect side kicks to the "all the way" dogs. Absolutely horrible. Came here on a very early Sunday morning (2am). Only the side window was open for pick-up but the woman was very very rude. I understand that there could be rude customers late at night but you are still serving food to people. The food was horrible too.
