5 mercy stars because I want to encourage people to go. You want to root for the small business. You want them to succeed. Great location near city hall and a library and a gas station and a florist and a church. Should be lots of foot traffic. Old neighborhood feel. Then they step on their own feet with poor food and bad prices. The wieners should be better. You know the wieners themselves are fine. The rolls are fine. They bought those. They just get ruined by not being fresh. The meat sauce is, I can't explain it. Burnt maybe? I don't know how many times it's reheated. The onions are bitter, as if someone cut a bunch of onions once and they're not cutting any new until the old ones are used. Just cut fewer onions, more often. Make fresh meat. Fix the fries. Ugh the fries. Why are the fries wet? It could really be one of those busy neighborhood hangouts where people wait to order and then stay and eat. Being an avid hot dog tourist I passed the sign with the dog on it, immediately pulled over and ran in. Not being a local, I immediately embarrassed myself by asking for a hot dog. "You want a hot dog or a weiner?" said the gentlemen at the counter, unflinchingly straight faced. This question will flummox anyone from outside the Ocean state, by the way. After some translational challenges We established what it was I came there for, and 2 wieners were on their way down into my gullet. I'd been to Olneyville New York System (other side of Providence) before, but I had forgotten the local history of this sausage variant, the Rhode Island weiner, also called a Coney dog in other places. A fine ground, mild, steamed Vienna sausage in a steamed bum with mustard, raw onion, and meat sauce like a chili. Traditionally ground beef heart in some places. Celery salt as well. I was the only one there (11am, but any time is ok for a cooked tubular meat product) and the two guys behind the counter were tolerant of my many questions, friendly enough, and served up a solid dog, I mean weiner. I'd already ordered a coke when I remembered coffee milk, so I missed out on that other Rhode Island junk food tradition that you can get at this restaurant. (I keep RI coffee syrup at home in MD, both kinds). If you like hot dogs, definitely try this Rhode Island variant. It's different enough to be worth the side trip just to get the notch on the belt. 5 mins off 95...Personally I prefer grilled dogs but I love the toppings on these Rhode Island wieners and the local history behind them. Twins was it? That's what I thought when I went late on a Thursday night. Me and and my girl and my boy too sat in the booths across from the tv. Andy Griffith teaching lessons in black and white and ya know what? it was alright. One had hair, at least I think. The other was straight. Cruisin the menus didn't love the fonts but hey this is EP we do what we want. You know it's for real heads when there's a map of the state posted up in the corner decked out in red dots. The only good thing about my meal was the coffee milk. The "Dirty fries" consisted of pieces of dried out ground beef on french fries, nothing else. The appearance was so foul I didn't even try them. The hot dogs were ok, definitely not the best I've ever had. This food was basically nasty. read more

Me and my fiance walked into this place for wieners on new years eve around 2:30pm sat at the front counter and off to our left we see the cook with about 8 wieners up the length of his hairy sweaty arm...the worst was when he was done and put them on the plates there was a few onions left on his arm and he took them off and put them on the wiener he just made...didn't even order! Sad I loved this place when it was Sparkys. Hoped it would still be the same but it is not. Ordered the wrecker, eggs were supposed to be scrambled hard but instead got a folded omelette type thing that was wet inside. Bacon was overcooked and the home fries tasted old and just refried. The pancakes were not the light fluffy goodness I used to get from Sparkys, these were heavy undercooked mess. Went on Saturday late afternoon/early evening. Two of us sat down right at the front counter where every employee walked by us without even a second glance. It wasn't very busy...three tables and one other man at the counter. We sat there for almost 10 minutes. No one greeted us. No one gave us a menu. No one even looked at us.
