Fried clam strip platter with cole slaw and chowder
    Katie L.

Great spot in the middle of the beautiful Slater Memorial Park that serves burgers, dogs, shaved steak etc.. the other side has a fried seafood window. Pull up a picnic bench and enjoy your favorite fried seafood platter served piping hot! For a taste of summer without leaving the city! Dog friendly is a bonus in my book!

Chili cheese fries and a doughboy.

Len's Hotdog Haven is seasonal so call ahead to check the hours. It's also weather dependent. Rain and parks don't mix. The grill side has anything you could possibly think of. Doughboy, appetizers, hot weiners, fries any style... The seafood side has fish and chips, fried clams, clamcakes and chowder, red or white. Fish nuggets... The ice cream window is ice creamy things! A day in the park without having to pack a picnic! Perfect! Plenty of choices for your picky eaters!

Great fish sandwiches, terrible hot dogs, and the service leaves a lot to be desired. They have hours posted, but seem to follow a "whenever they are ready" policy. It is the only food in the park so your options are this, waiting until you leave, or bringing your own.

If you want to eat at Slater Memorial Park, it's either Len's, the next-door ice cream place, or bring your own food and have a picnic (which you can; there are picnic tables). The food wasn't bad, although the frozen lemonade was small, an odd shade of yellow, and tasted pretty artificial. I was a bit surprised by the service. We'd ordered two large fries, but only received one. I went back and look at our order slip, which had been impaled on a spike, Sure enough, two large fries were listed. So I went over to the girl who'd taken my order, and told her as nicely as I could about the mistake. She immediately insisted that I'd only ordered ONE large fry. "No," I said, still smiling and trying to be nice, "I just took a look at the order slip, and it said two." She walked over to look at it, and I went with her. "Look, it's a large LEMONADE, sweetie!" she said, pointing to the entry for a large frozen lemonade (which had really been surprisingly small). "No," I answered, bending the corner of the slip that was covering part of mine, "right here, a second large fry - see?" She said she'd get it. I waited about five minutes. She handed it to me, and I thanked her. She then walked out of the door, almost pushed me aside, and walked away. The fries weren't that good, by the way - they seemed a little underdone. Not very crisp. The hot dog was okay, and the corn dog a little better than average. But again, not the best service.

Well it's underwhelming, but what do you really expect? My hotdog was cold, chicken fingers were fatty and fries were soggy. They could do better but I'm guessing the amount of foot traffic they'll get regardless means they won't. Bummer.

Doggie dessert. Vanilla frozen yogurt with doggie cookies on top!

Very big servings and they come with chowder. The clam strips are very good. The fish is almost as long as the container.

They use local vendors and fresh caught fish. Great wine list and cocktails. They have an appetizer samplers that includes traditional Rhode Island stuffies, but stuffies themselves were not listed separately. Our waiter said we could order them separately. Great service and they were delicious! A few of us got the lobster- fisherman's style. That means it was stuffed with seafood like scallops and shrimp. Sooo tasty! If you want a fantastic meal, this is the spot. Make sure to book ahead.

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful both inside and out, and the atmosphere really sets the tone for a great dining experience. The menu also looked fantastic with a lot of appealing options. I ended up ordering the baked shrimp, which came with seasoned potatoes and string beans. Unfortunately, the dish didn't quite meet expectations. The potatoes were described as seasoned, but leaned more toward a Cajun-style flavor, which wasn't what I was expecting. The string beans were also quite undercooked. For a $29 dish at a fine dining restaurant, I was hoping for a more polished meal. That said, the service was good, and the ambiance truly stands out as a highlight. Overall, I left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the food, but I would consider giving it another try if I'm back in town, as the setting alone makes it worth revisiting.

First of all, the restaurant itself is small but very cute, cozy, and full of lovely New England-y Sea-Themed decor. We were promptly seated and had our order taken for our drinks & food - I had heard good things about this place, so I got a decent amount of food items, including: Lobster Roll - Arguably the best lobster roll I've ever had so far in my life. The brioche bun for it was soooo fluffy, soft, and a perfect complement to the big, juicy chunks of lobster that were seasoned and buttered JUST right. Also came with hefty and well-seasoned fries. New England Clam Chowder - Came with salted pork and potatoes in addition to the quahog clams. It was deliciously creamy and soothing to slurp on and the chunks within were all so tender and a great contrast. Clam Cakes - Added them to the Clam Chowder order for an extra $8. Big, hefty, doughy balls that were perfectly fried outside and ooey gooey within. Fish & Chips - Big, hefty fish that was juicy & delicious with a great crunch on the outside! Similarly came with the 'chips', or the hefty, well-seasoned fries that the lobster roll also came with. Oh yeah, pardon me, forgetting to mention the drinks! We ordered the Briny Martini and the Harbor House Punch! The Martini was great for a stronger drink and the Punch was a nice cocktail for anyone preferring something sweeter and fruitier. When it came to the food, service, and dining experience...it couldn't have been better! Everything was incredibly delicious and definitely worth ordering. This memorable experience then reached exceptional circumstances, however, as while we were in the middle of dining here and enjoying our delicious food, there was a shooting occurring just up the street at Brown University. I wish to commend the staff at Dune Brothers, who looked out for mine and their other patrons' safety and sheltering us in their restaurant as we all nervously waited for more information on what exactly was going on that evening. Exceptional circumstances aside, this restaurant is also exceptional when it comes to the quality of their food and service. I highly recommend coming here if you're in Providence!

Benjamin's Easter Buffet 2025…read more I don't normally leave bad reviews but this felt necessary. Let me paint you a picture of Easter at Benjamin's: My family of 9 adults had a reservation for their 3pm seating. When we arrived a little before 3, we had to wait in a line that was out the door of the restaurant and down a long hotel hallway. We were pretty far down, and as we came in people were wishing us luck or calling other restaurants to see if they could go there instead. It was like being on the RMS Titanic- a foreboding sense of inevitable danger ahead. We were worried about our 3 elderly family members being able to stand in line, but luckily the line started moving after 10 minutes or so. When my party got to the front, we were seated. They did not ask if we had a reservation- just led us to a table. Half our group was cut off by another party that just arrived, claiming they had priority because they had a reservation. Hah! So did everyone else in that line but okay. Anyway, the rest of our party joined us, our waiter brought out 2 carafes of water, and told us his tables would be going first. He felt really bad for the customers, you could tell. We asked him about the food they ran out of as people were muttering about that in line. He said they were out of garden salad and turkey (because they dropped it, apparently. Huh.) but they were also out of bread rolls. If you're going to have three buffet seatings- have food for all three. So the buffet itself was outside the dining room. They had opened at least one other banquet hall at the hotel to fit people, so they were all coming toward this buffet table. Luckily, we were first in line. There were three servers at the buffet for 11 trays of food so it took forever. The scrambled eggs looked awful- very dry. No one piece of bacon looked like it was cooked the same- some of mine were crispy some were chewy. Sausage was fine. They gave you two pieces of each. Stingy! One of my two French toast sticks was hard as a rock. Potatoes were okay. I went to get coffee at the next table and Oop! There wasn't enough to fill a cup in the one canister on the table. No one seemed to be in a rush to bring out more though. The dessert table had some danishes and another tray of blondie crumbs. While eating this first plate, someone finally came around to ask what the name of our reservation was. Better late than never! Our waiter brought us a whole coffee pot because he knew we didn't get any, complete with fresh cream and sugars. After finishing our first plates, some of us headed back to the buffet for round 2. But lo and behold the line was back around the corner! A family friend dining in another section of the restaurant told us that at this point, they had only just received water. Yikes! We did not want to wait in line, so we waited at our table for a bit. Some of us never even returned to the buffet table. A few of us did head back now that the line had died down. I set a timer; it took 14 minutes and 43 seconds from the time I entered the line until I was back at my table. When you reached the buffet area, they had now diverted the line to start at the ham carving table rather than the eggs, so the feng shui was even worse than before, with the line now stretching across the small buffet area. This time, I got the lunch offerings. The ham was alright. The mashed potatoes were incredibly salty. The carrots were mushy on the outside but hard on the inside. The scrod was fine and the penne was fine. There was a welcome addition to brownies at the dessert table. We could've paid extra for a better dessert selection off the menu though. We were not as wise as our fellow diners who complained and got comped, so my elderly grandfather who was paying for our meal paid full price for this, at $35 per person. Oh, and they didn't tell us about the credit card processing fee, costing an extra $10. Thank you to our waiter who tried to make this doomed experience a little better! Suffice to say, we will not be returning to Benjamin's.

With great willpower I did not order the fries as I had some the night before. And ended with an espresso. Our waiter, Joe, was knowledgeable about the food (and brought us an extra helping of bread) and gave excellent service. (We gave him a good tip.) As usual, the place was noisy but less so than in the evening. This really is an American bistro, reminiscent of the ones in Paris.
