I enjoyed the chicken gyro. Having been to Greece and trying a gyro for the first time I was expecting a similar setup (sandwich makeup) but it was differed in that, the gyro did not include fries in the gyro. Fries are an additional charge which was disappointing but also the price is Greece was half the USD cost. I enjoyed the sandwich. It was filling and the only thing I ordered during this visit. read more

Great! I got the lamb gyro platter. Delicious lamb carved off on top of pita bread and put on top of salad. Good amount of food too. You can't beat it. You really can't be in the reading terminal if you are not an excellent spot. read more

That platter was absolutely disgusting and dry. The meat was okay, and the pita came straight out of a plastic bag, no idea if they even heated it. It was slightly expensive for a mediocre-near-terrible plate. I see why everyone else was getting a beer instead of the platter.. read more

Hands down, one of the best places I ate while in the area! Stopped by the terminal and this stand was highly suggested to me. I'm so happy that I went. Service was quick and there's sitting room which I appreciated. I ordered the lamb Souvlaki plate. Portions were huge and everything on the oats was flavorful. Prices are great for the portion and I highly enjoyed my food. As it's in the terminal, it's busy but it's worth stopping by! Highly recommend! read more

Had a really great time here a couple weeks ago. We walked around the market trying to decide and loved that this place had draft beers. We were quickly greeted by the hostess and gave our order. We liked being able to watch our gyros and salad being made. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The pita was delicious and so was the sauce. We would definitely go back! read more

Olympia Gyro is a Greek restaurant in the Reading Terminal market. You can get parking validated for $6 in the parking garage nearby by spending $10 or more here. There's bar seating in front of the stand and the people that work there are really nice. The food itself is average for Greek food. The chicken is seasoned well, the salad is fresh, and the rice pairs nicely with the rest of the plate. The dish was reasonably priced for the portion and can be packed to-go if needed. read more

Understanding that the location is great, but often packed, still a really delicious gyro spot in the Reading Terminal Market. Came here for lunch on a Saturday, and luckily the weather kept the whole market much less busy, so we were able to get a prime spot for service and to people watch. Our service was very quick and didn't make us feel like we had to move at any point, or that we couldn't eat food from adjacent vendors. My party got the lamb and beef gyro, chicken caesar souvlaki, and old bay fries. Everything was quite good. The lamb and beef gyro hit the spot and would be something I order again, maybe with the stuffed grape leaves. I loved my souvlaki and old bay fries, so freaking good. The fries had that perfect crisp bite with all that salty goodness, and the caesar was a great sauce to go with the grilled chicken. Really solid spot and will keep that in my rotation of place I go next time I visit. read more

I just love this place so much. Very unassuming and Reading Terminal has so many great choices, but this has become my go to spot. Very consistent, with some of the best service (you can still get free soda refills here!), And sitting at the counter you see and feel the hustle and bustle of people at RTM. Very pleasant ambiance. As for the food, the lamb is good but and the gyro combo (sandwich, fries and a soda) is a solid deal, but I almost always go for the chicken gyro platter. I just love the freshness and crispness of the side Greek salad. And the chicken gyro is so hot and juicy and right off the grill, you can still see the food waves coming off it. And that teziki sauce, heavenly. Do attend. and maybe grab a beer, they have that now! read more

Nasty customer service. Asked my wife and I to leave because we didn't order enough. In the photo, you can see the image of her grimacing and bragging to her colleagues after she asked us to leave. We ordered a gyro sandwich and fries. There was no signage that every customer seated had to order an entree to be seated. Ridiculous. You do not treat people like this. Whomever is the owner of this establishment should retrain the particular employee. She was rude and dismissive. Stay away. Clearly there are a TON of options in the market. read more

Got a salmon gyro, baklava cheesecake and spanakopita slice and it took ages to get my order probably solely because I didn't get the classic chicken or beef gyros. But also there's a million people on line and everyone's doing their best so it was no biggie. My gyro had at least one entire juicy fillet of salmon which was fantastic. Baklava was juicy and syrupy, the way I like it. Spanakopita wasn't my favorite but was good. read more

Unless you want to breathe down someone's neck waiting for them to vacate, getting a table in the Reading Market at lunchtime is an exercise in perseverance .... which I didn't have. So we ate at Olympia because there was seating. (As I type, I realize how dopey this sounds.) Anyway, their gyros are good. Not necessarily the best I've had -- a little under-seasoned and dry -- but fine. In keeping with our usual strategy, my husband and I ordered one sandwich and one platter. We share the salad and a drink. And it's always plenty. read more

Cute little spot in a very busy market! I've been searching for a Greek restaurant that makes a perfect Greek salad...I fear that I may need to continue searching. The thing that brings a Greek salad together is the dressing and it seems that their dressing is closer to Italian rather than Greek. Food was prepared quickly in a chaotic environment. Located in Reading Terminal, Olympia Gyro is a pretty solid grab and go for lunch. If you chose to stay, the restaurant does have bar-/diner-style seating and a small dining area. Overall, I thought the staff was pretty friendly, and the food was quickly prepared and served hot. My fried chicken gyro was great because it was crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. I was somewhat disappointed that the fries did not have any salt, but who needs extra sodium. For me, the prices were fine compared to other gyro stands that I have frequented in NYC. While I would not go out of my way to get visiting Reading Terminal, Olympia Gyro is a great option when a gyro craving hits you. read more

Stopped by Reading Terminal Market for a quick lunch mid-jury-duty: I'd been craving a gyro, so I wove my way through RTM for Olympia Gyro. Happily, there was a gyro special on the menu and a seat at the counter--a perfect spot amidst the hustle and bustle to people watch (and also wish you could order more things from the menu, as everything being ordered looked tasty)! Service was friendly and swift, the gyro (with everything, e.g., tzatziki, onions, tomatoes) was well-seasoned with pillowy pita bread and the fries were crispy and piping hot (I added the pepper shown). FOOD Solid grab-and-go or diner-style place for lunch or dinner! I had their chicken souvlaki sandwich ($11.50) and fries ($4.00), and both were filling and delicious. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the tzatziki creamy and crunchy with the onions and tomatoes, and the flatbread was just the right amount of thickness. The fries were standard-- had a great crisp and paired well with the sandwich. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly. Orders come in and out very quickly. AMBIANCE Located in Reading Terminal, the place is always bustling with visitors. There's some seating around the stand (diner-style) but can get full quickly. Stopped by the Reading Terminal market for a quick lunch and despite long lines at most of the deli counters, noticed this place had a few empty seats. Without any prices posted anywhere, I went ahead and ordered their Beef and Lamb Gyro platter, which includes fries and a large soda. I'd been craving a good gyro for some time, so I was very happy to get it in less than three minutes. While it wasn't one of the best I've ever had, it was above average (the pita was a bit dried out). The standout attraction was the large portion of fries, which were really superb: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and very flavorful. So I had no problem when I received the check and learned that it cost $20. Seems high for a Gyro but considering it came with a box of fries, it seemed worth it. read more

I didn't know it but I've been craving a gyro for a few days. When I was walking the alleys of the Reading Terminal Market, that craving hit me hard. I walked the rest of the market but returned to Olympia Gyro after seeing the donner spinning couldn't be beat. As there was already a queue at 11:45 am, I knew it would be good. I took a seat at the counter and the guy behind the counter asked what I wanted. Easy! Less than five minutes later, a pita bread filled with meat, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki was in front of me. And yes, I did eat just a bit of this nice and fluffy pita that had been grilled to make it warm. While eating, I watched them making a spanakopita by hand. That looked amazing! Busy counter style seating. Friendly waitress who also speaks Spanish. You can watch them prepare your meal in front of you. Meal was out in less than ten minutes after order placed. I took an overnight trip to Philly just for a change of scenery and of course a few quick bites. There are tons of places to eat in Reading Terminal Market, but this time I opted for something a little different, Olympus Gyro. I had the special (lamb gyro, fries, fountain beverage). The fries were crispy and fresh. The lam was nicely prepared but that yogurt dressing, was oh so good. The seating is sparse and tight but appreciated b/c most of the eateries don't have seating. Would I go back, sure. The host was kind and efficient. I actually enjoyed watching the line cooks (forgive me if the term isn't correct) cut the lamb from the rotisserie. Not sure if this is the usual amount or if they put my extra sauce right on there but it was great The spanakopita was literally soggy. First time trying this spot and I can't believe it took me this long. I honestly cannot wait to come back and eat here again! Stopped by today and was able to sit at the counter. The server was extremely friendly and so helpful! I ordered the gyro, which is a combo of beef and lamb. 10/10 SO much flavor, meat was SO tender, pita bread was soft and perfect, tzatziki sauce tasted great. I had zero complaints about this dish. Perfect on the go meal as well. My friend and I also shared the stuffed grape leaves. I'm normally not the biggest fan of this dish, but I can honestly say this was the best I ever had. This is one of those places in the market that's good enough. For example, if I'm walking around the market and I suddenly think that I could go for a souvlaki sandwich today, it will do the trick. That's what happened today. I had the pork souvlaki sandwich. The pita was nice and soft, it had a good amount of meat, and a decent tasting tzatziki sauce. Nothing about it screamed that it was top tier Greek food. I wouldn't tell my Greek friends that they had to make a special trip here. But it was a pretty decent sandwich that hit the spot in the moment. Nothing wrong with it. read more

Olympia Gyro is "the" option at Reading market if you are in the mood for "Greek Specialties" ... according to the menu. It's not an extensive menu, but it is a plastic one ... with pictures offering gyro sandwiches, gyro platters, or Greek salads. After grabbing the last seat at the busy counter, I opted for the latter. The fresh salad featured romaine and leafy lettuce plus tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, onions, boiled egg, and black olives with an option to add chicken, salmon, or gyro. Of course, I went with the namesake gyro sliced thin and piled on top. The salad was ok and tasted healthy. The service was so busy and practically overwhelmed that it was almost not ok or enjoyable. I'm unsure if it was understaffing or just a hectic day. For me, it wasn't a pleasant lunch break or even close to the advertised "specialness" that had been hyped for Olympia Gyro. read more

They called it caviar but it was mayo in consistency and looks. The hummus was nice, tzatziki was loved, and the garlic potato was SUPER garlic. My main dish of octopus was quite nice and I wished was a bit larger. Octopus with lettuce tomato and onion in oil. Tasty. My wife and kid had lamb shank and lamb roast. Both were delicious and tender. My friends got the cheese on fire tableside and a lot of calamari which was also well liked. Our waitress was wonderful and on top of things. She was able to split the check three ways and got well deserved tips. The restaurant itself is a little cramped as it's in a former residence, but you can get around. If you're in the mood for Greek food, I don't think you'll go wrong at Zorba's Taverna. $180 including tax and tip for three adults. Two cocktails, a beer, tea, combo appetizer, three mains, and a dessert to go.

Almyra - I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago, I didn't know it was there. I thought, 'looks very nice, I'll have to try it'. The restaurant, which features 'modern Greek' is part of the Estia Group, which includes 7 restaurants - 3 of which are in Philly (Estia and Pietro's are the other two). I went for dinner this evening on a Wednesday, and there was a good crowd - the restaurant is quite large, and it's decorated beautifully. I started with three of the Spreads - Smoked Eggplant, Beet, and Hummus. It was wonderful trying these 3 - I spread them on the pita and crispy rice crackers - and tried them separately - spoonful by spoonful, to really taste the differences. The Edamame Hummus has a unique flavor and texture with tahini and garlic. The Beet features roasted beets blended with labneh and garlic and topped with pistachio and feta. The Smoked Eggplant with peppers and balsamic rounds out the 3 with a deep, smoky flavor and a soft, smooth texture. I always look for 'classic' Spanakopita these days, but rarely find it. The dish at Almyra was labeled 'Spanakopita Manti' - I asked my server, what that was. She said it was a favorite of hers, a fried 'flower shaped' pastry filled with blended spinach and feta, served with tzatziki and leeks. I ordered them and they were heavenly - lightly battered, crispy fried 'flowers', with a creamy spinach center, that tasted exactly like spanakopita should. I dipped every bite in the creamy tzatziki and thoroughly enjoyed the appetizer! While pork is the most popular meat in Greece, lamb is a dish served on special occasions and holidays. I 'discovered' lamb in Greece, as I hadn't ordered it that often when I would go out to eat....specifically the lamb chop. Almyra has a great lamb chop! It's seared on the grill - and I do mean seared - the deep char definitely adds to the flavor. The 3 large chops are Australian lamb, herb marinated for days highlighting the flavor of the meat. They are seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper and olive oil for a tender finish. I like my meat pink inside - not red or rare. Cooking lamb chops medium to medium well is no small feat, yet the meat was cooked exactly the way I liked. They were tender and very juicy. These chops may have been some of the thickest I've had - and I made the 'mistake' of trying to eat them with a fork and knife. Wrong! If you order chops, you 'MUST PICK THEM UP' and eat them! What a difference!! The meat just came right off the bone and it enhanced both the texture and flavor! I'm not sure why eating them off the bone was so different, but I can't emphasize it enough - and, it's a lot more fun! Part of the treat when you order ribs are the 'layered potato fries' you get with them! These aren't your ordinary fries, in fact, they're really not fries - they are little potato masterpieces! The fries are prepared by thinly slicing potatoes and layering them to create a multi layered texture that rocks! They are truly a savory, rich side dish to the lamb chops! After such an epic dinner, I had to order dessert, and the Olive Oil cake immediately caught my eye. It was a two layered cake with a creamy custard like center and a citrus orange topping. It was light and moist, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla gelato resting on a bed of ground pistachio nuts! It was delicious and a wonderful ending to a great meal!
