Excellent dining experience here. My fiance and I decided to check out a new restaurant in our neighborhood and I'm so glad he chose this spot. Oh wow, I'm now a fan of Greek food for breakfast! Thanks to a friend's recommendation of Olympic Cafe, my bud and I found our way here this morning. The place is in a tiny strip mall shared with a laundry mat, Chinese Food take-out shop, a vacuum repair store and whatever else that has the parking lot full on a Sunday morning. Parking might be a pain if all the shops were open, but we were there at 10:00 on a Sunday and it wasn't too bad. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly full with the exception of two tables. We sat down and were quickly greeted with a server that brought over menus. You can also order bacon and non-Greek dishes, but why do that when you're at a Greek restaurant?! I had the gyro and eggs that had a choice of bread or pita, hash browns and two eggs cooked to my liking. He had the three egg scramble with feta cheese and gyro and the same sides as mine. Food came out in about fifteen minutes with Tzatziki sauce. Everything was delicious!!! The gyro had so much flavor, the pita bread was fresh-out-of-the-oven warm, the hash browns had the right amount of well done crunch and the eggs were cooked perfectly. We were both happy. I skipped lunch today after paying only $18.60 for our two dishes and two drinks since I left there stuffed! We were in the area picking up a piece of furniture and I had bookmarked Olympic Cafe years ago. I like that they are on Grubhub so we could use our Amex Gold credits. We had the Spanakopita and Falafel Combo and Dalmadakia and Baklava. I think this place probably has its high reviews for all of the meat options because there were not many vegetarian options. The falafels should be a highlight of the dish but they definitely were not as they were hard and very dry. You may have a totally different experience by ordering other items on the menu, so do not let this review keep you from giving Olympic Cafe a chance. The one thing that is an absolute must for everyone to order was the Baklava, which was as good as I can imagine it to be! I love this place! I would go here all the time when I attended a high school near by. Friendly owners and staff make you feel welcome and the quality of their food is unquestionable! There are usually a couple tables free, but sometimes it gets pretty busy. So, many opt to call in earlier and pick their order up. Service is good. I believe it's a family-run establishment, but I'm not certain. The menu offers a ton of choices. I'm yet to make my way all over the menu to try everything, but for now, I can tell you that the Souvlaki platter and the lamb shank special are very tasty. And it's a fairly generous portion for very affordable prices. Whether you dine in or pick up, they get your food ready very quickly. Maybe not like a speeding bullet, but just much much faster than you'd expect. It's one of those places you gradually learn that it's a 5-star place. Parking doesn't seem very abundant, but every time I go there, I always manage to find a spot. Here's an amusing little tidbit: My girlfriend always gets excited about this place. Goddamn, I love this place. Olympic Cafe is easy, delicious, and never disappoints. I've seriously never had even a middling meal from them. The quality and consistency is off the charts, especially for the price. I'm a huge fan of Olympic's gyros sandwich, but the gyros is great on its own when I'm not doing gluten. The meat is flavorful and cooked to perfection, the onions are thick-cut and high quality, and the pita bread is soft and very fresh. The Greek-style chicken kabobs are also a huge winner, and the saffron rice and Greek salad pair well with pretty much anything you can get here. The staff here is super friendly and will work hard to make your meal a good one. One time I called in to see if they were open for delivery and they turned on their Postmates system because they recommended it for delivery over Grubhub. Even when I pick up from Olympic myself, they'll sometimes throw in a random goodie as a thanks for coming by. Seriously, they're amazing. In short, Olympic Cafe is a North Park institution and should absolutely be a staple of your takeout rotation. read more

This is fabulous greek food! i ordered the gyros sandwich and my friend ordered the spanokapita. Both were excellent, and accompanied by a fantastic yogurt sauce that was fresh and tasty. We also ordered a plate of fries to share, and the fries are AWESOME! A great place to get 'steak fries' which are in wedges, but still crispy and seasoned. The iced tea was the best iced tea i have ever had. seriously. Seems like the most random place for good greek food (in a strip mall), but it's soooo good! Love, love, love this place!! It NEVER disappoints and you can always get seated and served quickly. My BF always gets the gyro salad, which comes with a ginormous amount of gyro meat, on top of a greek salad, served with pita. Basically the same as the gyro plate, but more salad and no fries (I think). Really delicious. The breakfast is also really good, but I think they only serve until like 12 or 1, so sometimes we miss it on the weekends.
