Omar's sells birds and bird supplies. The birds are on perches down the middle of the store. Most of them seem well adjusted to being surrounded by people who want to pet them in spite of the fact that birds are prey animals. I'm not sure that this is the best for the birds though and it bothers me a little that the store's mascot bird is allowed to walk around on the floor. In their defense, however, the store is well supervised. I've counted up to five employees on the floor. They sell a small selection of pre-packaged bird food and treats including one of my favorites which is Featherglow. They have a huge, wonderful selection of bulk foods for sale. My mini-macaw loved the deluxe hookbill diet which had great things like pasta, star anise and cinnamon sticks as well as dried fruit and various seeds and pellets at 3.99 per pound. And you can buy Zoopreem in bulk too. The standard hookbill diets are not so great, mostly safflower seeds and some peanuts. They have some cages and I love their selection of toys although many are on the expensive side. You can get a better deal at Drs Foster-Smith online for standard toys. *But* they do have some unusual toys that I haven't seen anywhere else and I'm willing to pay more for those if it makes my birdie happy. They have boarding and grooming as well at reasonable rates. The staff is friendly and I think that they really care about their birds. This is a really nice store. You would do well to give them your business rather than the large chains. Everything is of better quality here. Variety is the key word. read more

I have been a customer of Omar's for years and have never been disappointed. I buy all of the food for my Blue and Gold macaw there - I like that I can make my own mix and how fresh everything is, Tallulah likes it because it is yummy. I am waiting for our Scarlet to be weaned at Omar's right now. She should be coming home to us soon. I have always found their staff to be knowledgeable and helpful, and all seem to have a genuine love for the birds. The toy wall is terrific, too! read more

I hate that yelp has it set up where any ignorant person can post a review of something they know nothing about. A. You will NEVER go in a cleaner bird store than Omar's. I've gone in dozens all, over the country in the last 30 years. Anyone who say's otherwise is a fool. B. Omar's goes way out of their way to have healthy birds in the store. ALL the parents at his breeding ranch have been tested, so they don't pass anything down, and if they get babies bred someplace else, they're tested. C. NONE of the babies they sell are taken from the wild. All the babies are bred here in the U.S., which lets the wild bird population stay wild, and increases the total population of each species. This is the BEST Avian store in this country, bar none....and all but a few reviews back me up....the ones that don't, just don't know anything about birds. Omar's is Tops! read more

The people who work at Omar's are so nice, they will talk to you and help you out so much. They answer any questions you come up with even if you're not buying a thing! That's how you become a bird owner! We have two birds from Omar's, super sweet and socialized! What a great idea having the birds out of cages at the store and everyone can pick them up. The food selection is awesome, toys and cages as well. The birds you pay more for but you get free grooming for the life of the bird so it makes up for it! This chain of bird stores (and this store in particular) is definitely the one place you need to go for everything to do with exotic birds. I bought my Senegal parrot from here and they helped me with absolutely everything I needed help with, from choosing a cage, to the type of toys he needs, down to the type of food to buy for him. About 10 years ago I bought my canary - Li'l B - from Omar's. About a year ago he started losing his feathers, stopped singing and started making wheezing sounds. About a month ago I found him at the bottom of the cage. Apparently he could no longer fly or even hop onto a perch. I had to put his food dish down on the bottom of the cage and make sure the 2 female canaries didn't take his food away. I figured at his age, it was time to prepare a little brown bag with his name on it. I mentioned the situation to Cinder, one of the very helpful staff at Omar's. She suggested I try the following: 1: Super Preen Vitamin Supplement 2: A separate dish with grit - Cinder said they use it even if it doesn't seem that way. 3: Scrape Cuttlebone powder into the bird's food. I followed Cinder's instructions and within a couple days my bird was back on his perch and fighting with the females who tried to take his food. Within a week he was growing new feathers. Christmas morning I woke up to him trying to sing. He hadn't sung in a year. Li'l B is still doing well and his singing is improving. In 2014 I bought my Umbrella cockatoo Justine from Omar's. It took me a while to decide if I wanted to buy a bird and if so what type. I went there for a few months nearly every day after work to play with the baby birds. It was a hard decision but with the help of Pam, Kim and Cinder I was able to settle on the U2 and finally put down a deposit. After I was able to finally take her home I have enjoyed playing with her, she has already bonded with me and my extended family. I take her to the store on the weekend to be around other birds. She loves it. The staff at omar's has become a part of the family, he are always happy to help, answer questions, find alternative solutions like toys and different foods to try. read more

My boyfriend and I always go here to hold the birds and we have had many staff members help us out and tell us how to handle them. We were given the OK to hold one bird who was in a cage. An old woman who works there saw that the bird had made its way up to my boyfriends shoulder (it just got up there and it hadn't even been a minute), and she quickly stormed over and grabbed the bird and basically threw it in the cage, and yelled at us. Never having anyone tell us that it isn't okay for the birds to be on someone's shoulder, it would have been nice if she just nicely came over and informed us, we would have gladly put the bird back. The people working remind me of an exclusive clique, they aren't always friendly and don't seem to want anyone around unless they are actual bird owners, which sucks because a lot of people go there to learn about the birds and learn how to handle them. If you don't currently own a bird/never owned one in your life, you aren't welcome at Omar's. ***other people have had negative experiences with the same woman, surprised she hasn't been fired! Get on that, Omar! Not fair to be losing customers because of her. read more

One of my friends brought me to this place about a year ago. I am not sure how it is now but I was very impressed with how nice all the birds were here. They must be doing something right cause I was able to walk up to any bird in there and just pick them up and pet them, they were all super nice and you could tell they were all well taken care of. Please be careful when/if you shop here. We bought a very expensive baby bird from Omar's last year and the bird ended up having Polyoma Virus, which is a usually fatal illness in young birds. We gave Omar's the business because we wanted to buy a bird from a reputable source to avoid getting one with a virus or illness-- little did we know that we brought home a sick parrot and unknowingly exposed our other birds to this deadly virus. The store was somewhat helpful until it came to reimbursing us for the very costly vet bills. At one point an employee told me "what's the point of doing the meds, etc. either the birds going to kick the bucket or it's not." Great advice. I would be wary of making a purchase from them: a. because their birds have had polyoma in the past and most young birds die from this, b. their customer service is not helpful or pleasant, c. if you end up having a problem like we did, these are not the type of people you're going to want to be dealing with. To Omar's credit, they did reimburse us for the vet bills, but it was a battle getting them to do so. Please take your business elsewhere. read more

I thought i was in a real bird paradise when I first got in this store. I had a budgie at home which is super tamed and cute. So I wanted to get one for my friend and hoped they might have a baby one that is easier to tame than those at Petsmart. Surprisingly all of them are handfed and very young (about 1 month old) ready to go home. Some of them are younger and the employees won't let you take them until they are old enough and finish some kind of formula. But I guess if you are lucky enough to find a baby bird and get to pay a certain amount as a deposit, do it. The baby parakeet is doing good. They also gave me 4 days for a free physical check up at one of their partner vet hospitals (MAKE SURE TO CALL AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT). They also gave me lots of seeds, milets and a little toy for him/her. I'm also waiting on my first cockatiel ever and get to pick him up in 4 weeks. Will update soon read more

I dont own a bird but came here with a friend since she had to pick up some things for hers. WOW what a interesting place and crowed. Most birds are out and about just hanging out waiting for people to handle them. Most are very sweet and are familiar with people. I saw many kids just walk right up to a bird and have it sit on their hand. No issues no hassle. I cant say much about pricing and quality since I have no clue what birds go for. It was fun to play with the birds since they were all sooo people friendly. They have a thing called "happy our" where they let our some cockatoos and all the birds just run around on the floor and play. If ever you are in need of bird supplies, boarding, or just want to get familiar with having a bird I would def recommend this place. A lot of the customers come in just to play with the birds for an hour and then leave. Kind of like a petting zoo. The staff love this because it not only helps to train the birds but keeps their mind stimulated. read more

First off, when you walk into Omar's take a look around. You'll notice thick layers of dust and grime in every corner. The place is filthy. The window sills on the inside are stained with bird feces that appears to never have been cleaned off. Lastly, the people working there were extremely rude. It's like they care about birds more than humans. I actually greeted them first, and they sort of ignored me then continued to talk amongst each other about their personal lives. Rude people, filthy environment. I highly advise going anywhere else but here. Just an overall bummer of an experience. read more

Omar's is the cleanest and nicest bird store I have visited in the entire state of California. They have a large selection of food and toys. I have three parrots who go through toys like crazy. The folks who work there are fairly knowledgeable, most if not all have parrots themselves. They also have cages and sell birds. Just a quick note, if you are looking to purchase your first bird, please do a lot of research on birds and that particular species. Birds can be amazing to have but realize they are not domestic and their behavior is complicated. They are expensive when they become sick and there are only a few vets that are really qualified, who have the training and experience to really take care of them. Also, birds live a long time, many have a similar lifespan as people. Make sure you are really committed to having a bird that can live 20 - 50 + years. Also, good idea to put them in your will and live money for their care if they do outlive you, and it is more common than you think read more

I bought an eclectus parrot many years ago at Omars, when they were in Laguna Hills. I have been a constant customer ever since. I have followed them through four moves. I find them to be consistently professional, clean and well informed. I have my bird groomed there on a regular basis and when we go out of town, I confidently leave her at Club Omar's for boarding! I had my heart set on owning a Catalina macaw and had stopped into Omar's almost daily just to check and see if they had gotten any. I enjoyed playing with all the birds and love that the birds you purchase from Omar's are already hand trained and used to different types to people. On one of my usual visits to play with the birds , I found a beautiful 11 year old mollucan cockatoo! I instantly fell in love and purchased him on the spot . I'm glad that I chose Omar's because they helped me understand what to expect from my new bird and they make u feel like once u have one of their birds your part of the family. My father loved my bird and the experience so much that he purchased a green wing macaw from the brea store. And, Omar's birds come with free grooming for life and a free first vet visit to make sure the birds healthy! I'm happy to say that both birds are as happy as can be and everytime we go back to Omar's they remember us and ask how the birds are doing. I have taken my Parrotlet to Omar's in Lake Forest for years, both for wing clip, beak trim, and nail clip as well as board and care. Prior to that I had a lovebird. I also purchase my bird food there, both fresh and package, recommended by my Vet. My vet is also an avian vet, breeds exotic birds, and purchases his food from Omar's in Lake Forest. Omar's birds are healthy, well-trained and obviously happy. They have a large selection of birds, cages and toys. I find their staff extremely knowledgable and helpful. You will get quality products and service. They know birds better than any store or staff in Orange County! read more

Omar's is a treat every time that I go. I have a 29 year old harlequin macaw. I take him there for his grooming and the ladies that do it are sooooo good! My bird stays calm and there is never an issue. I never can leave the store empty handed. I recommend highly to anybody that enjoys birds. I bought my bird here because I couldn't find a breeder of the species I wanted in the area and I didn't want to traumatize the bird with an airline flight. I put the standard 25% deposit on my birdie and waited for her to mature so I could take her home. Later, after visiting my baby several times, I found out she was shipped in from Arizona and the price was marked up. When I took my bird home, she shrieked incessantly, like she was ill. I exchanged her for the same species and gender. Of course they weren't thrilled about this, but they reluctantly let me do it. A week later, the bird was gone. Sometimes the employees are rude, other times they are quite cheery and helpful. The "complimentary" vet visit you get is just a chat with a vet about animal husbandry-- not blood and fecal tests for serious illness, which is a bit deceiving. This place is absolutely wonderful! We had purchased a baby parakeet in garden grove knowing nothing about birds and we came here since it is down the street from our house and everyone was knowledgeable on what we as first time bird owners should do. Not only did they help with giving us information recently my bird got a weird bug and we couldn't figure it out, we have two dogs so we were scared there was going to be an infestation with my animals or the bird would be in danger. We took our bird here and everyone was so helpful with getting rid of the bugs and telling us what to do. They helped my baby bird and i don't know what i would do without every employee here. Pam and Gloria especially were so patient with me and so kind. I am truly grateful to be able to walk in the store and get as much help as possible. They are also wonderful at helping you with breathing exercises as well if you get as scared and upset as i do about your bird. Thank you everyone so much! read more

I've been going to Omar's for years. They are bird experts and will spend a great amount of time to give excellent advise in caring for your bird. The employees are wonderful.....I know all of them by now and they are very invested in whatever is best for each bird. I read the review about employees being less than friendly. This is an extremely popular place to visit...sometimes lots of people. The staff is kept busy observing the safety of the birds, clipping wings, triming beaks (free for life when you purchase the bird from them). If there was ever anyone who was rude......well everyone has a bad day now and then and who knows what happened earlier in the day. They have to be constantly vigilant for the safely of the birds who are out on stands......far more important then if they greet me with a smile when I walk in the door. I'm a bird owner but sometimes I go just for just for the entertainment. The birds will make you laugh....sometimes it's just fun! read more
