On August 4, 2007, I took my pet to this shop for a groom. My groomer is ill with wisdom teeth, so…read moreI tried a new groomer. My review deals with a groomer presently employed at the shop. She'll soon be leaving their employ. Who knows where she'll pop up next, hunh? DO NOT ALLOW YOUR PET TO BE GROOMED BY Ms. Linda Yost. Although she came very highly recommended by someone to the shop owner, she is no good in my opinion (based on recent experience). She cut my pet several times - 7 to be exact. I have very detailed pictures of her injuries taken 8/4/2007. I'd post the pix on here, but I don't see a link for that. WHEREEVER YOU GO TO FOR GROOMING MAKE SURE THIS GROOMER IS NOT HANDLING YOUR PET! There's no telling where she'll get a job next. My pet is 8 years old and has been groomed regularly since she was 6 months old. This is the VERY first time anything like this has ever happened. Despite all of this I'd like to say... I know the shop owner and she's fantastic. In a couple of months, when she gets a new groomer, I'll be back. I've recommended someone (Miss Leota) who is wonderful and I'm waiting for them to hire her. She has been grooming my pet for over 2 years now, without incident and she is without a doubt an excellent and gentle groomer and she is phenomenal with small dogs. Call and ask for her by name. If you know anyone who is a skilled groomer, give the shop a call, they are looking for several. I will keep this posting updated. Oh, yes, speaking to Mel G.'s posting. There is no such thing as bowel evacuation at a grooming facility, there IS however, "expressing the anal glands" - which is routinely done with a grooming and with a vet visit. This is very important as it impacts you're dog's health directly. Not doing this for your pet this cause an infection (and worse over time, can lead to cancer, etc.). My vet told me about this several years ago and showed me everything. I love my dog and I make sure this gets done.

Tucked in behind Smyrna's Market Village, all of the dog-walkers in Smyrna were excited when we saw…read morethat a pet store was going to be opening in our back yard! Little did we know that we were in for so much more! So you walk in Pet Expressions and you realise that not only do they offer pet grooming and a SMALL selection of pet food and toys on one side, but, by God, they also offer flower arrangement IN THE SAME STORE! Brilliant! Not only can you get your dog bathed but you can pick up a lovely bamboo plant while you wait! What in the hell is that about?! Obviously someone didn't go to Harvard to learn to write that business plan! So anyway, I have to get my dog bathed and I drop him off with no notice which was fine with them since they're new and didn't have much business. The cost was good ($20 for a first-time visitor) and I didn't have to wait too long. The problem was when I came back. I show up and here comes my dog with some ratty-ass bandana tied around his neck! Now I know that PetsMART (which I love) does the same thing but at least their's is branded with their logo. THIS bandana looked like something that my grandmother would have had in her fabric scraps to use for quilting and the church social! I wouldn't have that crap in my house much less around my dog's neck so I borrowed their scissors and cut it off and made a mental note to ask for "no ugly bandana" the next time. So the groomer comes out and tells me how good he was and how she....(are you ready for this??)....EVACUATED HIS BOWELS!! What?!?! You did WHAT to my dog WITHOUT MY PERMISSION?! Yeah, apparently she shoved some water hose up my boy's bum to clean him out! Are you kiddin' me?! You don't do that crap without telling someone first! Now, when I take my boy to PetsMART, they don't pull that crap (no pun intended) so what made her decide to do it without my permission?! I decided right there that I'd made my last visit to Pet Expressions regardless of how convenient it may be. I'm very protective of my dog and NO ONE will be performing invasive procedures on him w/out my knowing about it first! I can go to PetsMART in the future for the bath and can't think of a time in my life when I've needed an ugly Lucky Bamboo Plant but if I do, I'll find it somewhere besides the pets store! UPDATE: 9 July 2007.....While walking my pooch last week, I was stopped by two of the (frantic) owners of Pet Expressions. They asked if I had seen a particular type/color of dog that had apparently gotten loose and ran out the door and was LOST!? DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS PLACE! Any groomer that doesn't provide for the safety of your pet doesn't deserve your business!!! UPDATE: November 8, 2007 ... Asian lady that owns this place (affectionately known as "China the Butt" to the locals) apparently lives in the back of the store probably to save money or something. I don't even want to think about how/where she bathes. I think I just puked a little in the back of my throat. DIS-GUS-TING!

However, my most recent experience has me questioning the company's integrity. The dog I have now was boarded at Bark Ave from 09/24/24 - 09/30/24. When I dropped her off on Wednesday of last week she was in good health and I requested that she have a bath before I pick her up on 09/30. When I picked her up on Monday, the assistant manager brought her out, I paid them & left. My dog was very quiet, mind you after not seeing me in 5 days. When we got home she started rubbing her had on the floor and shaking her head. I took a look at her and noticed her left eye was swollen shut, so I had to open her eye to see what was going on. Her eye was so red it looked like it was bleeding and burned or something. I called Bark Ave and spoke with the assistant manager. I sent her a picture. She agreed that it was swollen. I asked what happened, she stated she was aware of any incidents that could have caused this. I immediately took my dog to the vet. The doctor examined my dog's eye and diagnosed her with a superficial Corneal Abrasion. He also stated that the abrasion could have been caused by the shampoo that was used for her bath. I informed Bark ave of the diagnosis and they immediately began to deny that this incident was not caused by their staff. I absolutely disagreed and requested to speak with the owner or manager. The owner immediately sent me an email denying any involvement with causing this injury. I sent the owner a copy of the doctor's note, her response was since the doctor mentioned that "the shampoo could have been the cause, but could not confirm" she is not responsible. What business person who really cares about the people/pets that they service, would deny the possibility of a simple human error? We all know that shampoo could have easily dripped into a dog's eye while the dog is moving around when being bathed. I used to speak very highly of Bark Avenue Pet Resort and I've also referred a couple of people... Not anymore. I have attached a picture of my dog when we got home from the vet's office.

We moved to Georgia less than a month ago and had a business trip pop up in less than 48 hours notice. So I get to scraping the plumbing of the internet for a local pet care giver. My pets are somewhat adjusted to walkers and caregivers, but its never an easy transition. Not only did Distinctive Petsitting keep it friendly throughout the entire process, they kept it very professional. As an offsite caterer, I know how important those initial questions are when setting up expectations with a new client. They nailed them all. as you have read here a few times already, they keep it flexible... I was scheduled to travel the day the lights went out at Delta and after a day at the airport, they completely understood, and added not one single fee for cancellation of the remaining visits. A convenience fee would have been completely fair, so I tipped the walker for the waste of time... The company sends a representative from the office to sit with you and your pets before the event to be sure everybody understands everything. For someone who has interviewed a few walkers in my day, and i don't want to have to feel like I need to put every valuable away while trusting my home and pets to a new stranger, and while the neighbor who has a teen may be ideal, Distinctive Petsitting will completely allow you to check this off the list and let you get on to whatever has you leaving town...

They came for a consultation to meet the cats and asked lots of questions so they knew where everything was, knew the cats routine, and were prepared in case of emergency. They sent us videos of the cats while we were gone to reassure us everything was ok, and left us notes of the details of each visit for us when we came back which were very cute. They were great with the cats and the cats were happy to have them visit and play. Reasonably priced. They went above and beyond expectations. Will continue to be a repeat customer.
